Nov 19: Police See Through John Kerry’s Daughter

At 12:40am, police pulled Alexandra Forbes Kerry (36) over for driving erratically. How do i know you shoulda voted for Kerry like i did in 2004? His daughter wasn’t smart enough to pass a field sobriety test but she was smart enough to refuse a breathalyzer. How many times do i gotta tell you guys? ALWAYS refuse a breathalyzer. Alex (can i call her ‘Alex’?) was taken downtown and given the regulation blood alcohol exam and tested 0.06%. The entire US considers 0.08% to be over the top so, while the law could still go after her for driving erratically because of the booze, the District Attorney has let it be known he’ll pass on this one. Maybe if Stephanie Pratt wore see through dresses at French film festivals she coulda got away with her slight infraction.

i love a parade. Especially one where Santa shows up. And really especially when he drives drunk in the parade. A 51-year-old Santa in Cambridge, Ontario was pulled over for drunk driving. As Santa. In a parade. And you thought Canadians didn’t party.

Gerald Gibson (51) is a cop in Ohio. C’mon, any state that sounds like a yawn is bound to be boring as hall. Trying to shake things up a little, Gerry was pulled over after crossing the middle line. He refused a field breathalyzer as well (see, if a cop knows to refuse the test in the field, so should you) and was taken to the pokey. So what? So he was an off duty State Trooper who was honored as Trooper of the Year in 2002 and was honored by Mothers Against Drunk Drivers in 1997 for his madd skills of arresting the most drunk drivers in Lima (Ohio, not the bean) that year. Here at the Bar None, Drunks Against Mad Mothers (DAMM) are working on a new award for him.

You know how i know Nigeria is a backwards country? It’s not because a soccer player (Stephen Worgu) who was busted for drunk driving has to pay $105. It’s not even because he was also sentenced to 40 lashes.  i know Nigeria is a backwards ass country because the other charge Worgu faces is consuming alcohol! Alcohol is against the law in northern Sudan! That’s how i know. First you go to a bar and then you go behind them.

Nigeria, however, is not the big winner of Most Backwards Ass Country of the Week award that everyone has been coveting their pants off. The big winner this week is Uganda. Edwin Komakech said people who die from drinking local moonshine (waragi) distilled with methanol should have their corpses caned six times to serve as an example to the living. i’ve heard about flogging a dead horse, but a dead ass?

Knowing he was leaving a Halloween party in a bar kinda takes the fun out of it, but doesn’t change the fact that Tracy Tredway, an elementary school principal in Indiana, was walking unsteadily (on heels, hey, give the guy a break) then driving unsteadily (hey, could still be the heels) when he was pulled over. He blew 0.19 and was charged. He’s now on forced recess from Riddle Elementary School.

You thought my bar bills were high… A bottle of Lowenbrau pulled from the wreckage of the 1937 Hindenburg airship disaster (think cover of Led Zeppelin’s first album) sold for £11,000 (that’s $18,124 in real money) in an auction probably somewhere in England. In other non-news, Prince Harry kissed a guy in a bar for a free beer. An Englishman kissing another Englishman for beer? Yeah, in other breaking news, the Pope is Catholic and George Bush Was Clueless During His Presidency. Seems that Harry was hanging out with his mates in a pub in Stevenage, England. Some chap called Rocky Bennett told the hair to the throne that he’d buy him a pint if he could kiss him. Harry laughed and let Rocky kiss him on the cheek. Hence the British term: cheeky bastard. i’m betting Rocky ran straight home to wank.

Saving the best for last… This 22-year-old Russian guy doesn’t take to well to vodka—or marriage. After drinking three fifths of Moscow Holy Water, Alexei Roskov stood up, walked over to his fifth floor window, opened it and jumped out. Then survived. So he walked back to his apartment, where his wife had called an ambulance and started yelling at him for his action. She was nagging so much that he went and did it again. And survived again, with nothing more than a couple scratches. He says he’s gone totally T, but i’m guessing the wife will push him to drink again in no time.

Turns out i’ve been practicing the Elizabeth Hurley diet as well, and i’ll be damned if my man boobs aren’t almost as big as hers. Seems she only has one meal a day and switched out coffee and wine for vodka. Maybe she’s really Elizabeth Hurl-ey. I haven’t Hurl-ied in a long time, though, which would explain my excess baggage.

Trendsetter Paris Hilton is at it again. After Rachel Christie (ex-Miss England) and Mischa Barton, Ms Hilton has decided to get in the ring. Paris chose to duke it out with Doug Reinhardt who i’m guessing is her current boyfriend but i can’t be bothered to care enough to verify this. Apparently police responded to a “Drunk People Arguing” call and the cops came to find the couple in a shoving match. No arrests were made: No blood, no crime.

In October, I got these two beautiful lip kits from Lauder as part of their month-long campaign to raise money for breast cancer research in partnership with the BCRF.  Not only are they for a great cause but they are also great colors for brides, so I was thrilled.

What I didn’t realize was how much time I would spend thinking about whether knowing whose was whose affected my choice in which kit to use – or if the colors just so perfectly represented their namesake and her unique (and couldn’t-be-more-different-than-the-other) image - or if I just happened to like the different shades for different women as I do all shades when doing makeup.

Then I started wondering if women who didn’t work in beauty would even immediately recognize that Elizabeth is for the insanely gorgeous Elizabeth Hurley and Evelyn is for the insanely powerful Evelyn Lauder.

And then I started thinking about names of products in general and how I myself was a little put off buying a lipstick called Shy Girl from MAC’s new collection even though I loved the color on me.  Shy Girl? No way. “Not once, Not never.”

Which boils down to – would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? Or look as pretty on your lips?

When choosing a color palette and makeup look, I consider a woman’s face – it’s structure, skin tone, lip color, eye color and then I consider her personality and self-image.

But with these kits, I couldn’t even see them as individual lip products.  They were the Elizabeths versus the Evelyns. 

One set was boldly screaming sexy, confident, look-at-me.

The other was eloquently articulating traditional, polished, sophisticated.

Call me crazy, but soon enough I was looking at all women and assigning them a kit. With no middle ground in between, it wasn’t always an easy task.

Damian, seven, told the 44-year-old model that he does not want to share his mum with any other youngsters.

Liz, who dated Hugh Grant for 13 years until they split up in 2000, married billionaire textile heir Arun Nayar two years ago.

And the ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ beauty has admitted that she has considered adding to her brood.

“We’re in two minds. Damian doesn’t want us to add to our family under any circumstances,” the Daily Express quoted her as saying.

“He wants to remain the golden prince. He says, ‘Mummy, our family is big enough.’ We toy with it but we’re not sure,” she added.

1.  Lindsay Lohan Looks Tired:

Citing two photos taken at a party recently, Huffington Post asked “Why Does Lindsay Lohan Look So Tired?”  Luckily, a poll accompanies the “story” and has the option “She doesn’t look tired, she looks great!”  You wouldn’t have guessed that from the headline, but whatevs!  (By the way, only about 1 out of 6 people so far had chosen that one.)

Why might she be tired?  Maybe being engaged in a public war of words with both your parents, one who’s an ex-felon who tried to sell voicemails and other private recordings to gossip mags, and one who seems to have your back but publicly airs your dirty laundry and chastises you for your behavior, would do it.  Maybe worrying about a sister who seems to be taking your same path and can’t rely on her parents for support and guidance would do it.  Maybe having cameras shoved in your face 24 hours a day waiting for your next nip-slip or emerging-from-a-car upskirt would do it.  Maybe being slammed by designer Emanuel Ungaro for a fashion line you designed for the company he doesn’t own anymore would do it.  (Note to Mr. Ungaro: Lindsay’s an actress, not a designer.  Let’s see you play a convincing part in Mean Girls, and it can’t be a pissy fashionista.)  If Lindsay Lohan looks tired, it’s probably because she is tired, of being a cash cow milked by everyone close to her then discarded when the udder runs dry.  Welcome to fame.

2. Josh Duhamel Had or Didn’t Have Extra-marital Sex:

This one really refuses to die.  Nicole Forrester, an exotic dancer at an Atlanta strip club, claims that she had lots of sex with Fergie’s husband and Transformers star Josh Duhamel.  He, of course, calls the allegations ridiculous.  However, the story is just too juicy to fact check, and simply must be reported.  She claims that she got and still gets text messages from Duhamel, so it should be pretty easy to identify the originating party.  On second though, don’t do that: if that doesn’t pan out, it might cast doubt on a tale that could be morning radio show fodder for a few weeks or even a couple months.

If the story didn’t involve a stripper, a lot fewer people would care.  This sort of thing fits right into the famous dude/star-banging stripper narrative.  I mean, that’s what strippers are supposed to do right?  That’s what the Champagne Room is for, right?  And for the right price, maybe you could do that at the next bachelor party you attend right?  No on all accounts, at least no more so than the population at large.  If you had the chance to sleep or not sleep with a great-looking famous person, and were then offered a lot of money to give interviews about it whether you did or didn’t, would you?  I wager that the percentage of hands that just went up is about the same as that of strippers who sleep with customers and tell, true or no.  (By the way, this happened to me: I did not sleep with Shakira, and I have not given paid interviews about our steamy non-trysts.)  As long as Josh and Fergie navigate this crap in a manner suiting them, everyone else should be fine with it, too.

3.  Liz Hurley’s Vodka and 1-Meal A Day Diet:

Yesterday Tomlin filled you in on Elizabeth Hurley’s non-traditional means of keeping her shape.  Or maybe it’s traditional.  After all, actresses do and eat (or not eat) crazy things!  Actually, lots of people go on weird diets.  Remember the Atkins Diet, where you didn’t eat carbs for, like, ever, watched the pounds melt away by eating hamburgers and bacon, then got intestinal problems and sometimes died?  Remember the grapefruit juice diet; or the lemon juice, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper diet?  Or eat-mostly-what-you-want, just-avoid-lots-of-fats Alli diet, the weight loss drug which allows you to crap yourself acceptably in public?  And what about my early 20s diet of whiskey and beer, cigarettes, and cottage cheese, which gave me a slender figure and breathing problems?  So who needs regular exercise and proper nutrition when you can glam it up like Liz with a Stoli and sandwich a day?

4.  Health Care:

Seriously, this is still going on?  I’m going to take a nap until SEC football comes on.

She keeps her sexy body in top shape and this red dress and high heels helps display that result. She has great legs that she apparently keep fit and toned. You can tell her legs are shapely. I wish we could see her in more movies but as long as she pops up from time to time promoting whatever that will have to be enough.

Elizabeth Hurley has revealed that she shifted from drinking wine to vodka in order to maintain her svelte figure.

The actress also mentioned that she stopped drinking coffee.

“I used to drink an awful lot of coffee, but I was told after the age of 40 you have to be careful with coffee and wine,” the New York Daily News quoted her as telling the Daily Mail.

She added: “Apparently, that can be one of the reasons older women get bloated around their stomach.

“No, I don”t miss having a glass of wine because I”ve switched to vodka.

“I don”t really like vodka that much but if I”m at a party, I have a small one with a lot of fizzy water and a huge squeeze of lime. Initially it’’s like medicine but I”ve got used to it now.”

Also, it has been reported that Hurley eats just one meal a day and a lot of times skips dinner, since giving birth to her son Damian in 2002.

Elizabeth Hurley, who made headlines with her boob-drooping strapless dress at last year’s Estee Lauder bash, turned up donning a rather conservative gown at this year’s event.

And despite her not-so-revealing dress, the glamorous actress still managed to light up the 10th anniversary of Estee Lauder’s Breast Cancer Awareness Global Illumination Initiative at City Hall, London.

The beauty empire has been bathing famous landmarks in pink for the past decade and Liz, 44, spoke of her relief to be indoors for this year’s do.

“Last year we were outside on Tower Bridge and I was wearing an exceptionally silly dress so it is a big relief to be inside for a change,” The Daily Express quoted Liz as saying.

Hurley is married to Indian-industrialist Arun Nayar since 2007.

Brendan Fraser plays a guy seduced by devilish Elizabeth Hurley. Are there any guys out there that don’t envy this guy?

Fraser plays a schmuck named Elliot Richards who yearns for the love of the beautiful Alison Gardner (Frances O’Connor). One day Elliot makes a wish that he would do anything to be apart of that girl’s life. At that moment a billiard ball strikes his shoe and a dazzling temptress (Elizabeth Hurley) looks deep into his eyes from across the room. Before Elliot realizes it he is playing pool with this temptress. She asks all these questions about what he would exactly do to get Alison.

Elliot is captivated by this woman and follows her around until she reveals that she is indeed the “devil”. Elliot doesn’t believe her and asks for proof. Eventually Elliot gets convinced and he is given 7 wishes for his soul.

Will Elliot ever get Allison? Will Elliot be able to find his way out of this arrangement?

Fraser is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. I really liked his comedic timing and depth in this film. He has to play all the very different Elliots which show he has a great range. Fraser has left the Jay Ward cartoon adaptations behind and is becoming a very versatile actor.

Hurley is breathtaking, captivating and putting aside the pun, devilish. Her on screen presence will make us all want to meet the devil.

“Bedazzled” is based on a 1967 film of the same name starring Raquel Welch and Dudley Moore. I liked this predictable comedy because of its stars. I also really enjoyed that Hollywood recast the devil as a woman. I think that angle added spice and delight to Elliot’s world.

Another brilliant casting was Fraser who in every new Elliot wish plays a new man and its Fraser who makes us howl as he always finds a mistake in the wish. There is one of the wishes that will really surprise you. Write me if you know the one I mean.

One thing they left out of this adaptation was the addition of the Seven Deadly Sins which advise Dudley Moore (in the original) on each wish. Instead in the current film we have Hurley in a different sultry outfit. Not that I am complaining but the Sins did add something to the first film. The new movie really works because of the stars not necessarily because of the story.

One other small problem I had with the film was the running time. Bedazzled is only about 90 minutes and some of the wishes seem kind of rushed. I would have liked to have lived a bit longer in a couple of Elliot’s wishes. Plus what happened to the scene in the trailer involving red bikini-clad Hurley and the snake? Did a wish actually end up on the cutting room floor? Can anyone say DVD added feature?

Still Bedazzled is a hilarious and star-driven movie.

(CNN) — “Top Chef” host Padma Lakshmi is pregnant with her first child, her publicist confirmed to CNN on Thursday.

Padma Lakshmi will be eating for two on Bravo’s “Top Chef.”

Lakshmi, 39, has not identified the father. Her representative told US Weekly that the television personality conceived after a long battle with endometriosis.

“Model, author, and Emmy-nominated Padma Lakshmi confirms that she is carrying her first child after years of struggling with endometriosis, a cause for which she has co-founded the Endometriosis Foundation of America,” the representative told the magazine.

Endometriosis is a medical condition where the uterus’ lining grows in other areas of the body. The often painful condition can cause women to have irregular bleeding and possible infertility.

Lakshmi’s publicist also told US Weekly that “As a result of her condition, this pregnancy has been referred to by her physician as nothing short of a medical miracle, and due to its delicate nature, we ask/implore the press to respect Ms. Lakshmi’s privacy at this time.”

Lakshmi is the ex-wife of famed author Salman Rushdie. She has hosted Bravo’s hit show “Top Chef” since its second season and is herself a noted cookbook author.

I think that the reason she is asking for privacy is that she may just be a pretty golddigger.
