Jewelry designer Elizabeth Showers believes that beauty is not something you see in the mirror. It is something that is inside each of us. Jewelry aside, this designer has a very compelling background that has led her on a path to ensure that women have self-confidence and avoid the pitfalls of self-doubt that can lead to dangerous eating disorders.

Elizabeth decided to work with jewelry after attending a jewelry-making class, preferring to start her own line.

“I design jewelry with the same instincts that I have brought to other aspects of my life. I want to create pieces that inspire a woman’s self confidence and maker her feel beautiful.”

Her jewelry has not gone unnoticed, reaching the attention of over forty major publications, from Vogue to Sports Illustrated and is within the collections of celebrities, including actresses Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Queen Latifah. Her collectors recognize her dedication to her art and her commitment to support non-profit organizations. The Hope Star Collection was created in 2005 to raise money and awareness for The Elisa Project (a non-profit organization specializing in eating disorder awareness).

Elizabeth has started placing the Hope Star on many of her 18kt gold Couture Collection pieces. Her company mission is “to empower all women to feel beautiful.” She uses the Maltese cross in some of her designs, “because two of the eight points stand for loyalty and bravery, which fits perfectly with my mission.”

Referring to her “deco” collection, she believes those designs are a little edgy, but still reflect the femininity that so defines the look. In her chandelier earrings, she manages to mix robin’s egg blue turquoise into a red-carpet style 18kt gold earring that make it so versatile.

“Of all the earrings I have designed,” she confirms,”the turquoise chandeliers are my favorites. I wear them to black tie events, as well as to dress up a jean outfit.”

We were so excited to have Elizabeth Showers at the store last week! Not only is Elizabeth a talented artist, but she is a lovely woman. We asked Elizabeth to show us some of her favorite pieces in her latest trunk show, and these are few she selected:

This stunning necklace above is 18kt yellow gold Mariposa pendant in blue topaz over mother-of-pearl with tiny mother-of-pearl cabochon detail on an 18″ long freshwater pearl necklace with 18kt gold S-clasp.

These enamel bangles above are sold separately, so you can mix and match the colors you love.

Two special lines Elizabeth has are the Feel Beautiful collection and the Hope Star collection. Having recovered from an eating disorder herself, part of Elizabeth’s mission is to encourage women to feel beautiful, just as they are. “We all need to be reminded to feel beautiful,” she said. To do this, Elizabeth tries to incorporate the hope star in as many pieces as she can. 
 

Elizabeth said she finds inspiration for her jewelry in so many things: music, movies, friends, family, her team at work, and most recently, the shores of the Bahamas. Elizabeth just returned from a trip to the Bahamas, where the pink sand and turquoise water gave her inspiration for new design ideas. We can’t wait to see what new pieces come from this insipiration!

Elizabeth was wearing a one-of-a-kind necklace that we had to show you. “I love surfing, I love the beach, and I love monkeys. I know it’s random, but they’re all things I love.” It’s so fun to see the interests in her life that inspire her jewelry!

Rory is showing off a Finley shirt, a bright, colorful Talani scarf and a Lockhart handbag. As seen here, all you need to transform a simple outfit in to something fun and eye-catching is to throw on a bright, colorful scarf (which also comes in handy for the cooler temperatures in the morning and evenings here in Jackson).

During the fashion show, the ladies at the Pines were able to see some of our newest collections up close and personal. There’s something about seeing the clothes in person, touching the fabrics and visualizing the outfits with fabulous jewelry, handbags and shoes, that makes putting together a complete outfit so much fun.

In this photo, Rory is sporting white jeans by Citizens of Humanity, a Beluva jacket,  a hot pink JPK Handbag nylon bucket tote and Annie Band fine silver jewelry. JPK Handbags are great for the summer, especially their nylon bucket totes – with over 40 vibrant shades to choose from, you’re bound to find one that’s perfect for you.

(Mark your calenders, the Christopher Fischer Spring/Summer 2011 collection will be at goodie2shoes next week, June 29 &30!). The shrug and necklace add the perfect amount of color to her outfit, and really pop against the black dress and her gorgeously tanned skin.

(on right) The accessories Yvonne is wearing really make this outfit! Both the Annie Band silver cuff and Elizabeth Showers hematite necklace shine with the simple gray Magaschoni dress. Her Coye Nokes heels add just the right about of pizzazz to this classic look.

This fashion show is always so much fun, and definitely generates excitement for our upcoming summer trunk shows. Many thanks to Teton Pines for hosting yet another fun, successful event!

Elizabeth recently returned from a product development trip to Bangkok and sent out an email with photos and stories from her adventures. We in turn wanted to share some of the highlights – the raw materials and inspirations that become her finished pieces. We hope you enjoy!

”On Monday, we started working. Here is one of our Thai artisans making our Simone hoop in chrysoprase along with a photo of chrysoprase in its rough form. The next picture is mother of pearl in its raw shell form–pretty cool, huh? We use a very thick piece of white mother of pearl for our large Simone Hope Star earrings, so as you can see, not many of these earrings can be made from one shell because there is only one part of the shell that’s thick enough from which to cut this shape. What looks like chopsticks are actually setting sticks used to set these tiny Simone-shaped stones into the Simone stacking rings.   This is lavender chalcedony rough…seeing gems in their rough form always reminds me of how my jewelry comes out of the earth, and then I just add a little design to it!  Beautiful, isn’t it?!”

Elizabeth and her fabulous jewelry will be at Goodie2shoes June 30 – July 2. We cannot wait!!



Ann King was very petite and pretty, and we had explain that although we own two of her rings and a pair of her earrings, we couldn’t find them to wear down to West Chester for her to see.

We’ve been fans of Echo of the Dreamer jewelry for decades, but never knew the designer behind it. Well, it’s Margaret Thurman, and we got to talk to her. She explained that the name Echo of the Dream came from her reading of Carlos Castaneda. One of her pieces, a white agate locket, is inscribed with a quote from Anais Nin, the best writer of female-oriented erotic literature ever. Thurman said she met Nin once.

Young designer Elizabeth Showers, who overcame an eating disorder, showed us her inspirational jewelry line, which aims to raise women’s self-esteem.

QVC’s Sterling Designer Meet-and-Greet Saturday at the home shopping channel’s headquarters in Pennsylvania was great. For jewelry geeks like The Homeshoppingista, it was like being a kid in a candy store.

We were surrounded by fine designers and were able to ask them, in person, about the inspiration for their pieces. It reminded us of the Television Critics Association press tour in LA, where reporters got to ask TV showrunners like Matthew Weiner of “Mad Men” what “informed” their decisions regarding their shows. That was more fascinating to us than seeing “the talent,” the actors and actresses.

At QVC’s studios, we could see and try on the designer silver goodies, and buy them. And we were surrounded by women like us, women who adore and treasure their baubles.

We weren’t sure how the meet-and-greet would work. We thought maybe it would be like a cocktail party with just a few QVC customers mingling with the designers.

Instead, there were dozens of women there. Each designer had a station, a couple of tables, set up along the hall that’s above the actual studios where QVC tapes its segments. You walk down the hall and stop at whatever station you want, chat with a Michael Dawkins or Morris, try on their rings and necklaces, and move on to the next designer.

You’re given a list of all the items the designers that are displaying, and you can circle the pieces you want to purchase.

BFF Ann kindly drove the three hours it took to get to our hotel Saturday afternoon. We headed over to QVC, and Ann acted as our photographer as we went from designer to designer.

In addition to Morris, King, Dawkins, Showers and Thurman, Naomi Pevsner and Elizabeth Rand were in the house. Judith Ripka had a table, which was manned by one of her good-looking and charming sons, Brian Ripka, who is president of her company.

Morris and Ripka are part of a growing group of high-end jewelry designers who are doing less expensive lines for home shopping networks such as QVC and HSN. QVC is particularly appealing, a formidable distribution outlet, at a time when sales of luxury goods have tanked.

The only designer that we didn’t speak with Saturday was Dawkins, who was a chick magnet. His post was so overrun by women, we decided to bypass him and come back later. But when we did, he was already gone.

We and Ann watched Morris on QVC back at our hotel, and he had changed into a deep blue shirt with a lot of the buttons undone. And he wasn’t wearing his black wrist guards.

But during QVC’s 25-hour Sterling Designer Gallery event, designers like Morris and Dawkins constantly made reference to the comments they had heard from women at the meet-and-greet.

We are such tech dummies that we don’t know how to download Ann’s photos from the event, so we’ll post them when our brother-in-law gets back from vacation.

And over the next couple of weeks we plan to write individual blogs on each designer.

We bumped into QVC PR person Kayce Cashman at the studios, and she gave us an excellent recommendation for dinner that night. We had some potent cranberry margaritas at Mas Mexicali Cantina in West Chester.

This week at goodie2shoes we are absolutely thrilled to host Elizabeth Showers and her fabulous  collection of  18 karat gold necklaces, bracelets, rings, earrings, and pendants.  And now Showers has expanded her distinctive designs and eye-popping colors to a line of sterling sliver jewelry. “It’s similar to the gold line, but of there are differences,” says Showers.  ”We’re using white sapphires instead of diamonds, and of course were using lots of colorful stones. People want color from me, and it’s great to be able to offer it at lower price point.  Since my mission is to empower all women, the price point of the sterling silver collection makes that much more attainable.” Indeed – in addition to luscious, colorful gemstones, nearly every piece in Showers’ collection is stamped with her hallmark hope star, a symbol a woman’s inner beauty that Elizabeth hopes to empower.

One of the stand-out colors of Showers’ collection in both the silver and gold lines is turquoise. “I’ve been using turquoise for years – I just love it and I’ll never get away from it.”  Because for Showers, it’s not just about being on trend. “Turquoise has been popular for several years now, but I don’t think it will ever die.”  And Showers’ designs and embellishments around the stone give her turquoise pieces an even more timeless appeal. We love these Simone chandelier post earrings in 18k gold.

Another new feature in the Showers’ spring/summer 2010 collection is beadwork. I started out designing jewelry with beads, and now I’m bringing them back,” she says. “These long necklaces are classic – they wont go away!” Elizabeth was showcasing one of her own long beaded necklaces today at the store – we love how the layered turquoise beads pop against her little black dress.

Elizabeth will be at the store through June 26th, so there’s still one more day left to meet her in person.  Along with her gorgeous jewelry collection, Elizabeth’s genuine smile, effortless style, and bubbly enthusiasm truly will empower you to feel beautiful. Our three lovely models are sporting their first runway looks: Angela is wearing a Christopher Fischer blue and white striped cashmere sweater, white jeans by Citizens of Humanity, and turquoise necklace by Elizabeth Showers.  Alex is wearing a short sleeve v-neck dress by Three Dots in sparkling grape,  sapphire necklace and diamond hoop earrings by Temple St. Claire,  gold metallic wedges by Van Eli, and is carrying a Bougainvillea clutch. Yvonne is in a lavender tie-dye summer weight cashmere sweater by Christopher Fischer, flared and fitted jeans by Citizens of Humanity, and a turquoise ring by ARA 24 Karat.

In this photo, Angela is modeling one of our popular cashmere wraps by Magaschoni in bermuda blue – (these wraps come in 42 luscious colors – we know you’ll find that perfect shade at the Magaschoni trunk show July 26 – 27). She is also carrying a purse by NOAH (from the acronym “NO Animals Harmed”) that is made completely of non-leather materials.

This is a photo of Yvonne selling a Tolani scarf right off her neck! These popular summer-weight scarves come in an array of exciting colors and prints. Yvonne is also wearing a chrysanthemum pink dress by Kate Organic Cotton and a bone and amethyst bangle by Bougainvillea.

Other trends that we modeled include tunic dresses by Vineyard Vines and Gretchen Scott, and wedge heels in a brilliant turquoise patent leather by Coye Nokes.  We hope the fashion show drummed up some excitement for our many upcoming trunk shows – especially all that creamy cashmere by Christopher Fischer, who we are currently featuring in-store, and Elizabeth Showers beautiful beachy jewelry, who will be in town June 24 – 26.  Thanks again to the Teton Pines for hosting such a fun event!

This past March Goodie2Shoes packed its bags and headed to Napa Valley for our first ever traveling trunk show. We met some of our favorite designers at Luna Vineyards where guests were treated to an evening of wining, dining, and of course, shopping!  The trunk show showcased jackets by mixed-media designer Frankie Slaughter, cashmere wraps by Magaschoni,  Sisley fragrances, and fine jewelry by Donna Vock, Elizabeth Showers, Monica Rich Kosann, and Kass Simon. Guests sipped cocktails, tasted appetizers, and perused the apparel and jewelry collections, snapping up sumptuous cashmere wraps and jewelry galore.

As the first event of its kind, the show was both success and a learning experience. We had a fabulous time at Luna Vineyards – what a beautiful venue for our event! We also learned so much about the Napa region - we love California wine country and can’t wait to return in the summer of 2011 for another trunk show.
