Am stat putin sa ma gandesc ce titlu sa pun acestei scrieri si pana la urma a ramas rezultatul pe care il cititi mai sus. Este o zi ca oricare altele, cu multa munca, fara timp liber, dar mereu in compania placuta a cuiva. Am plecat de la birou pe la 7, catre un eveniment Avon.

Stiu, acest jurnal de Bucuresti a inceput ca unul unde as fi vrut sa demonstrez tuturor ca orasul meu este mult mai interesant decat ar crede unii, un loc virtual (sau poate ca nu), in care sa povestesc despre evenimente, in care sa ma abtin de la critici si in care… sa ma detasez putin de mine.

Nu am reusit. Rezultatul este inca un jurnal, dar de data aceasta mai putin personal.

Si va povesteam de Avon. Care a lansat in aceasta seara campania de primavara. Mai putin important. Ceea ce vreau sa spun este ca, desi de obicei evit sa vorbesc despre persoane publice, de data aceasta simt nevoia sa o fac, pentru ca este vorba despre… o femeie… o femeie misto.

Putin plictisita si oarecum obosita, am asistat la finalul unui spectacol de dans dragut, care a reusit sa-mi provoace niste sentimente si senzatia de furnicaturi datorita valsului rusesc de pe fundal. Si privirea mi-a fugit, inevitabil, catre Andreea Raicu. Andreea Raicu pe care am vazut-o in seara asta pentru prima data live.

Mi s-a parut intotdeuna o femei interesanta, cu trasaturi fine, o femeie care nu este frumoasa dupa anumite tipare, dar care are ceva…

Postura impecabila, zambet discret. La finalul relativ emotionant al programului dansatorilor, am vazut-o cum s-a cutremurat ascuns si cum i-a alunecat usor privirea in gol. I-am zambit.

M-a impresionat un om in seara asta. Daca uneori ai impresia ca nimic nou nu se poate intampla la un moment dat, sau daca ai senzatia ca nu poti avea nimic de invatat din anumite situatii viitoare pe care le crezi previzibile… ei bine… te poti insela.

Tocmai de aceea am decis sa nu mai judec, sa nu ma mai stramb dinainte, sa nu ma mai grabesc mereu. Pentru ca toate se rezolva, pentru ca nu le stiu pe toate, pentru ca nici macar nu stiu prea multe.

Azi am vazut o femeie… care nu a intarziat la un eveniment, care a asteptat zambind linistit sa ia microfonul, care s-a emotionat pret de cateva secunde, si care si-a pierdut privirea. Si… pana la urma… conteaza chiar atat de mult cum o cheama? I-as fi zambit oricare ar fi fost numele ei…

Topshop makes your Christmas wishes come true this year: The high street giant’s latest venture, Dress Me Up, allows shoppers to steal a star’s style for a day by hiring dresses from their wardrobe.

Launching today, Dress Me Up will be in Topshop’s flagship Oxford Street store until December 6th for you to try things on for size before its official launch on 7th December, running through until the 23rd.

During the hire period, you can grab Kate Moss’ beaded Lanvin dress, Freida Pinto’s pale yellow Burberry Prorsum number, Scarlett Johansson’s Nanette Lepore animal print mini, Peaches Geldof’s floral floor-length Dolce & Gabbana gown, Dita Von Teese’s blue evening dress by Jayson Brundson, and one of Nicola Robert’s bespoke costumes from the latest Girls Aloud tour, among a rialfull of others. Names also signed up to the initiative include Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn, Erin O’Connor, Sophie Dahl and ELLE’s very own Olivia Palermo.

But that’s not the best part: Hiring a dress costs a mere £40. And, if after wearing your favourite dress you can’t bare to see it go, you’ve got the chance to own it forever as it falls into auction, with proceeds going to Age Concern and Help the Aged.

“Having worked with Topshop for so long, we didn’t think twice about donating our dress. It’s such a great cause, especially at this time of year,” Emma Cook told Vogue UK. “The combination of being able to help support Age Concern and Help the Aged and the chance for someone to wear our dress that wouldn’t ordinarily be able to afford to, is such a fantastic concept.”

Pocas cosas tengo que decir ante esta imagen. En ella podemos apreciar a la virginal Hermiada haciendo experimento magicosos, sin darse cuenta de que nos esta mostrado un poco descaramente un pedazo de cielo. Esta captura es de las primeras peliculas de Jarry Puter, cuando Emma Watson estaba mas chiquilla y por eso mismo, tenia un encanto mas perturbador, prohibido y criminal. Como buena lolita, Emma exudaba un erotismo vibrante y pecaminiso dificil de ignorar, aun cuando era de forma involuntaria, lo cual la llevo a ser una de las hembras mas deseadas del publico en general. Sin embargo ¿Porque diablos las lolitas tienen que crecer, porque no pueden quedarse en los 13, 15 o 16 años, cuando estan en su mero  punto? Ni modo, el paso del tiempo es inexorable para todos, asi que nomas nos queda apechugar…

You have to admire Elle Magazine. While most magazines haven’t ventured out of their comfort zone, Elle has gone all out. They had their own Reality TV Show, Olivia’s stories at Elle are as important as Whitney on the City, and everyone seems to be crushing on Joe Zee. My favorite so far is their shoe diary. It documents cute shoes worn by the staffers every day. The pictures are surprisingly cool. I think it’s an adorable way to show the public more of what goes on inside Elle and I’d love to be a part of it.  I wonder what shoes I’d have to wear to get an internship there.

If i had a Daily Booth this is definitely what I would do.

This issue of Elle will have shots from 93 different stars, including Kim Bum and Kim So Eun. Hopefully they shot at the same location & at the same time… one can dream right?

Maybe we’ll see the So Eun shots in a few days, and hope Elle posts official pictures soon. If not, I’ll go buy a copy.

I want this haircut. Now.

During the end of last week and the beginning of this one I spent some time in the waiting room of a much esteemed doctor of psychology. Not for the reason you would normally think. This delightful fellow and his staff perform thorough evaluations of children with issues and Il Duce was there for his full battery of tests. As he floated in on his manufactured angel wings and put on his halo to confuse and charm the entire staff, I had spare hours to spend in the highly uncomfortable waiting room catching up on my magazine reading. I cannot tell you the last time I indulged in a fashion magazine. They always seemed so superficial after I had three kids, I mean, I barely had time to find a semi clean tee-shirt and new underwear. Who has time for all those rules, quick changes in style, heavy baubles and shoes that hurt?

Naturally, the first shiny fashion mag I picked up was Vogue, clearly deferring to the all-knowing genius that is Anna Wintour. While I HATE the number of annoying ads in her publication, I do like her photo spreads and cutting edge ensemble choices. I also think lightning shoots from her eyes and fingertips when she becomes enraged, but that’s another story entirely.

Vogue took me about an hour to page through and then I cleansed my palette with several gossip rags that I’m addicted to. Next in line was ELLE with Katie Holmes Cruise on the cover. First let me say that aside from her clearly dead eyes and half-smile, she looks fabulous. The orange dress, the statuesque figure and finally that KILLER haircut. This is coming with me the next hair appointment I have and I am demanding this adorable style.

This is something I will not be investing in. Nice idea though.

Now I can’t say that I felt entirely good about myself after all that eye candy and mind-blowing dress up fun but I did feel as though it was time to start moving toward the quantum leap that was going to be necessary to get me to where I could measure up to the average gal on the street. My own personal fashion apocalypse you might call it.

Proenza Schouler, I can get behind this WITHOUT the sock.

First I need to work on amassing the small fortune that is clearly needed for such an undertaking, but I am willing to settle for the baby steps . A much-needed cut and color ( to rid myself of unsightly grey) takes precedence over all other things and then we can talk about leaps and bounds.

Avec l’aide de Judith Perrignon, Gérard Garouste se livre dans ce bref Intranquille. Le style est on ne peut plus direct et cru : le peintre raconte sans trop de chichis sa vie, ses errances et ses interrogations. On y glane des informations sur son cheminement et ses préoccupations artistiques ; il n’oublie toutefois pas de souligner ce qu’il doit à son « salopard » de père, aux lunaires Casso et Éléo, à son épouse Élisabeth, au flamboyant Fabrice, au marchand d’art Leo Castelli… Il en profite également pour bousculer quelques clichés, comme ceux de la « folie créatrice », du rapport entre artiste et folie ou de la vie de bohème. Autant d’éléments qui font de l’Intranquille un portrait qui paraît honnête et nuancé.

Un témoignage qui laissera peut-être les aficionados sur leur faim, mais qui constitue une bonne porte d’entrée dans l’univers de cet artiste.

Sommigen komen niet buiten zonder make-up, anderen gruwelen al bij de gedachte elke ochtend te moeten prutsen met fond de teint en mascara. Make-up is fantastisch om minpuntjes te verdoezelen en je natuurlijke schoonheid te benadrukken. Maar hoe kunnen we stralen zonder make-up? Hier enkele tips.

1. Genoeg slapen – veel water drinken – gezond eten – veel sporten
Dit hebben we al vaak gehoord, maar toch mogen we deze tips niet onderschatten. Denk maar aan die aanblik in de spiegel na een nachtje stappen… Dagelijks minstens 1,5 liter water drinken vermindert bijvoorbeeld wallen, en veel fruit en groeten eten is noodzakelijk voor een mooie huid omdat anti-oxidanten de ontwikkeling van rimpels vertragen. Handig!

2. Epileer!
Je wenkbrauwen omkaderen je gezicht. Netjes geëpileerde wenkbrauwen creëeren een open blik en geven een echte lift aan je ogen… Een natuurlijke face-lift in 5 minuutjes!

3. Huidverzorging
Je huid dagelijks reinigen en voeden is ab-so-luut een must. Iedere dag wordt je huid ‘aangevallen’ door vervuiling, droge lucht, zonnestralen, sigarettenrook,… Een goede (vochtinbrengende!) dagcrème beschermt je huid hiertegen, en reinigen vermijdt verstopte poriën en zwarte puntjes. Scrub je huid ook minstens een keer in de week.

4. Scrub je lippen
Ook je lippen hebben verzorging nodig. Breng een gulle laag lippenbalsem aan en laat deze een kwartiertje inwerken. Daarna scrub je je lippen door met een (propere!) tandenborstel cirkelvorminge bewegingen te maken. Eindig met een nieuw laagje lippenbalsem. Alle droge velletjes zijn verdwenen, en je lippen zijn zacht en kissable.

5. Beauty fluid
Er zijn goede producten op de markt die je huid een beauty boost geven! Meestal in de vorm van een serum in een glazen ampul, bevatten ze een flinke dosis vitamines en voedingstoffen om je huid energie en veerkracht te geven. Deze coup d’éclat of beauty fluids zijn ideaal als je wil stralen zonder veel make-up te dragen.

6. Toch zin in make-up?
Een vleugje lipgloss, wat mascara en een beetje concealer onder de ogen, maken een wereld van verschil, en kosten slechts 5 minuutjes van onze tijd.

“TheCity” Season 1: Part 2: Episode 8: “If You want Something Done Right…”

This week, Whitney and Roxy leave the boys behind to return their focus to work.  Let’s recap.

Fresh off Kelly telling Whitney she needed to get moving on her clothing line and finish her sketches, Whitney has her whole collection completed.  The samples have even arrived.  The magic of television.  The next step: a look book.  Kelly names a million things that need to be done but says People’s Rev will take care of most of it, Whit just needs to focus on the casting.  Whitney surmises that she can get Roxy on the casting.  “She’s never done a casting”, Kelly aka the voice of reason warns.  Whitney says maybe it should be Roxy’s first.  “You need to put your best foot forward because if you don’t the other one doesn’t get to follow”, Kelly again warns.

Fast forward to the casting.  Whitney has on an amazing blue sleeveless top with a blue skirt that we must source later, while Roxy has on a cute green dress.  Roxy’s job was to call the models to the shoot, but the one’s she chose were all wrong for Whitney’s fairytale look.  Kelly suggests that if Roxy wants to be “Superflying Ranger in Redemption” she needs to pull some magic because Whitney put herself on the line for Roxy.  She needs some Fairtytale Tea Party girls, not Gothic Nightmares.

Over at ELLE headquarters, Erin tells Joe that they have his Fall A to Zee column ready, but there’s still a ton of things that need to be done and they need help.  Guess who Joe recommends?  Olivia of course.  Erin laughs and says of all the people here you choose Olivia?  Translation: I’m sick of this fake camera and fake show and I wanna go back to doing my real job with real people.  Nonetheless, Erin’s not the boss so she really has no say in this.

Next, Roxy transforms into the Superflying Ranger in Redemption and brings some magical girls into casting.  They have fresh faces perfect for Whitney’s Fairytale la la land theme.  Whitney is very pleased.

Back at ELLE.  Can Olivia become a Superfly Redeemer?  Erin doesn’t think so.  She gives her the task for the A to Zee job.  It’s a “He said, She said” theme.  Olivia has to pull two looks that a guy would want to see his girl in and two that the girl would want to wear.  Olivia actually takes notes, but Erin is still condescending the whole time.  Olivia tells Erin not to stress; Erin says snarkily that the fact that Olivia is not concerned worries her.  We understand Erin’s frustration, but her remarks are crossing over from frustrated supervisor to rude snark.

After the break, we’re finally at Whitney’s Look Book Photo Shoot.  Roxy is hands on as always.  She seems to think she’s her father, Ken Olin, for a moment as she totally tries to take over the shoot and direct the models.  The shoot is all about the light and airy, pretty and natural.  There’s cakes, cupcakes, and champagne.  Roxy aka the Idea Machine is spewing off ideas a mile a minute.  One is to have the model scream.  Not sure what that has to do with a Fairytale Photo Shoot, neither does Whitney.  She is finally able to tell Roxy no.  Then Roxy suggests that the models have a cake fight.  Novel idea if this wasn’t a photo shoot for clothing, which means you can’t have the clothing ruined or covered in food.  With this, Kelly has to pull the Idea Machine to the side and ask her to press stop, after all this is Whitney’s shoot.

Roxy can’t press stop, but presses pause.  But as soon as she gets another opportunity, she dances to the beat of her own drum.  No one will stop Roxy from moving forward with this one.  She’s been shut down twice but will not be denied thrice.  She suggests one last shot of popping champagne.  Kelly says not to do it because champagne will go all over the place.  “Kill me for being young and spontaneous,” Roxy says.  Maybe that’s not such a bad idea after this debacle.  The model does pop the champagne and it does spill all over her.  Whitney just walks away in dismay.

If we could combine Whitney and Roxy into one person, they’d be the perfect business person.  Whitney is just not assertive enough and Roxy lacks discretion. If they met somewhere in the middle, we’d hire them!  Whitney is upset for a half a second, then Roxy makes her forget all about it.  Roxy throws some food at her, and they have a food fight and some laughs.

Then Olivia meets up with Bryne, an intern at ELLE, to collect the four looks for A to Zee.  Bryne pulls a dress but Olivia “is only concerned that it hugs in the wrong area”.  “I couldn’t pull it off, I don’t know about everyone else,” Olivia boasts.  Now, we all know Olivia has impeccable fashion taste, but the bragging makes her a prime target for critiques.  She doesn’t have the world’s best body where she can pull of anything, so let’s not brag as such.  Then Olivia asks Bryne if a pair of pants are skinny enough for the skinny look they needed.  Bryne says no and Olivia dances to the beat of her own drum and says “well, I like it” so she uses it.  Bottom line: don’t ask if you don’t plan to listen.

It looks like Olivia’s dance was off beat once again, because Erin hated her pulls.  No surprise.  Erin thinks the size 16 model’s size 14 black dress is too small.  In fact, all the sizes are off.  Olivia doesn’t care.  “It’s fine”, is her response to everything.  How is it fine when the model looks like she’s wearing her little sister’s clothing?  Olivia tries to justify her incompetence by saying that she went to two stores and they didn’t have the sizes.  So she should’ve went to a third store, Erin told her.  Olivia asks Erin if she would talk to Joe likes she talks to her.  That’s so irrelevant because Olivia is not Joe, nor is she on Joe’s level.  Totally illogical comparison. These two are a total mess.  We don’t know whose worse anymore.

Back at the Revolution and Roxy has already gotten the champagne dress dry cleaned.  Roxy may make a mess, but she knows how to clean it up.  Kelly tells Whitney the look book is ready. Roxy is excited and starts to get out of her seat, before Kelly says she’s doing it with Whitney alone first.  Roxy can see it later.  The looks turned out great, but Roxy did not.  Kelly says Whitney needs to rethink Roxy’s involvement in her career (again) because it seems like Roxy wants to learn the hard way.  Regardless of what you tell her, she’ll do what she wants to.  “I don’t think that’s true though”, Whitney says.  Looks like Whitney is the one who wants to learn the hard way.

Before I went to college, one of my favorite past times was barging into my little brother’s room while he was talking to his girlfriend on the phone. His girlfriend is one of the sweetest people on the face of the planet and would always greet me with a joyful: “Hi Elle!” But my brother, oh how I love him, would push me over, grab my ankles, and proceed to drag me out of the room. He would then return to his room and sit against the door, so I couldn’t get back in. Sometimes he would even refuse to talk to me for the next couple hours. Some people may say he only does this because I sit on him, steal his phone, and try to tell his girlfriend embarrassing stories about him, but that is definitely not true! My brother is just a meanie!

Anyway, when I come back home for Thanksgiving Break, I am a little surprised to see that my brother is being much nicer to me. I haven’t been beaten over the head with a bamboo stick (which did happen once in sixth grade) and he is actually TALKING TO ME. Of course I need to put this newfound kindness to the test. That night, I decide to attack my brother’s room while he’s talking with his girlfriend, but before I know it, I’m looking at the ceiling while being dragged down the hallway by my ankles. Just because I tried to tell his girlfriend about the time he…….

The magazine industry’s major players are about to form a new company that would allow them to take the digital future into their own hands.

According to The New York Observer, the company would make up one of the biggest alliances among rival publishers ever formed in print media, with Time Inc., Condé Nast and Hearst all expected to join, houses that together publish more than 50 magazines, including The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Time, People, Sports Illustrated, Esquire and O, The Oprah Magazine.

The new venture will be charged with setting up a seamless distribution channel for digital magazines across the iPhone, BlackBerry and other digital devices, creating a standard template for advertisers and readers. The group doesn’t plan to create a single digital e-reader product; instead the publishers want to set up an iTunes-like storefront for magazine content. In addition to electronic versions of mag content, the storefront would also allow for print subscriptions and sales.

I think it would be awesome and so convenient to have just one digital destination for all of these mags but I’m really missing ELLE here!
