I’m sure you’ve seen them. Hanging around in their underwear. Half naked frame. Nail heads all exposed. You know what I’m talking about…the deconstructed chair.

Restoration Hardware’s Deconstructed Upholstery Collection is shown above. Clearly they are reproductions, but still soooo expensive.

I’m not an antiques expert, but these deconstructed chairs above from Eloquence Inc. look to me like the real thing. Authenticity in this case lends credibility to the style. History and charm is there. (via la Brocanteuse)

I don’t mind the look in the right setting. A shabby cottage…a french chateaux. It’s just okay for me and not a lasting look in my books. I say, put your velvet back on! And until then…Don’t look Ethel!

Balancing-act; Help arrives for Gerard's loft

Well as mortified as Sylvie was, I do have to disclose to you that there are many things that I do like about Gerard’s loft. There are some very interesting elements in his space that I found intriguing. The problem, in my humble opinion, is balance. Everything is so dark and heavy and that just feels a bit depressing. There is a bit much going on which really comes across as, I hate to say it Gerard, but in my own words, chach-kah.

I am going to start with the walls. Although I am a fan of layered hand-applied old world finishes, I would have chosen something a little different. I would love to see a polished plaster in here, marmorino is a soft look in an orange undertone gold:

I like the exposed beams, but with all the dark wood present, somethings gotta give. Let’s paint a creamy antique white (BM) ceiling to offset those beams:
