Ainda colhendo os frutos da saga Crepúsculo, que impulsionou seu nome para os holofotes de Hollywood, Robert Pattinson (que já foi coadjuvante em uma das venturas de Harry Potter) já começa, acertadamente, a trilhar outros caminhos.

Mesmo tendo obrigações contratuais para as filmagens do romance vampiresco escrito por Stephenie Meyer, Pattinson, novamente através da Summit Entertainment (mesma produtora responsável pela adaptação da saga Crepúsculo), estrela Remember Me, ao lado de Pierce Brosnan (um dos muitos 007) e Emilie de Ravin (da série Lost).

This was a great addition to my holiday viewing and a great way to combine my love of horror and Christmas. This is very much a black comedy and was giving me a solid 80’s vibe for some reason. I’m not sure what it was about this one but I really loved it. It was corny, cheesy, funny and full of holiday joy!

It seems that Santa is actually a demon who lost a bet with an angel. We learn that particular part of the story when there’s a stop motion flashback that brings up memories of classic Christmas specials like Rudolph. That was quite easily my favorite part of the film. There’s also a hilarious opening scene where Santa spreads his special kind of love with a very dysfunctional family. A family full of questionable popular stars like Chris Kattan and Fran Drescher. I’m giving James Caan the benefit of the doubt as he’s probably the one truly successful person pulling a cameo in the first scene.

Santa (Bill Goldberg, yeah the former wrestler) has never looked more cool. Dressed more like Viking than seasonal good guy, he tears through the small town on his sleigh pulled by his hell deer causing mayhem and destruction and even stooping as low as smashing a nativity display! I’m not really sure if he was on the hunt for something in particular but he winds up finding it in the angel that had made the original bet with him. This all builds to an over the top finish to the film involving a curling match, some gun-toting townsfolk and a bazooka.

Seguramente habreis visto millones de fotos de Roebrt Pattinson rodendo la pelicula “Remember me” con Emilie de Ravin con la cual se la relacionó durante el rodaje, bueno que me voy por las ramas (normal soy pocahontas) y al por fin tenemos el trailer de la pelicula (en inglés).
Espero que os guste, lo mejor es de este chico es que se adapta a todos los papeles y no recuerda en nada a Edward ni a ninguno de sus papeles, aviso a enamoradas de Robert Pattinson, hay escenas que te haran odiar a Emilie de Ravin, pero recordar es una pelicula! Aunque la verdad quien fuese ella….que bien viven algunas como dice mi queridissima Ariel cuando no se esta ahogando itnentando ser elamente una sirena “Si es que hay que hacerse famosa” (Ariel con cariño te lo digo eh!)

OMG! Rob Pattinson In the 'Remember Me' Trailer!

Ladies, I have important news: we’ve got another Robert Pattinson movie to “squeee” over. The New Moon heartthrob stars in Summit’s romantic drama Remember Me, in which RPattz apparently gets to — dare I say it? — act his little butt off. By which I mean, throwing punches and yelling at James Bond and being sensitive and making out with Emilie de Ravin, all while rocking an American accent! Sigh. I can’t wait.

Ok, so Remember Me is a gimme – of course every Twilight fan is going to run to buy tickets to watch Edward Cullen Rob Pattinson be romantic and emo and, most importantly, have a sex scene or two or three. (I’m extrapolating from the one shot of Pattinson and de Ravin with an L sheet covering them in bed in the trailer.) And your boyfriends and husbands probably won’t want to be dragged to see it any more than they did the Twilight films. But judging from the very first trailer, Remember Me might just offer Pattinson his first big chance to prove his acting chops in a widely seen release, following dramatic but quirky turns in indies like Little Ashes and How to Be.

Remember Me is directed by Allen Coulter, who made his feature debut with Hollywoodland after directing episodes of “Sex and the City” and “The Sopranos.” Take from that what you will. Joining its pretty pair onscreen are Pierce Brosnan as Pattinson’s father and Chris Cooper as de Ravin’s cop dad, which means three of four lead characters are played by foreign actors masking their accents, always a gamble. But I kinda think Pattinson’s got his American talk on lockdown. And did I mention the being sensitive and making out? I’m so there.

Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, Hugo Weaving and David Wenham will topline the voice cast of Animal Logic’s 3D animated feature, “Guardians of Ga’hoole,” according to Heat Vision.

The big-budget fantasy film, in production in Sydney and directed by Zack Snyder, also will feature the voices of Aussie actors Emily Barclay, Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, Ryan Kwanten and Jay Laga’aia, as well as English actors Miriam Margolyes, Helen Mirren and Jim Sturgess.

The animated film is an adaptation of the 14 book bestselling kids series by author Kathryn Lasky and illustrator Richard Cowdry and follows Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father’s epic stories of the Guardians of Ga’Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones.

The film is due for release in Australia on 9th December next year.

Brick (dir. Rian Johnson, 2005) *****

Is there any genre with as poor a track record as the high school movie? Against that legacy is set this indie debut from film-school graduate Rian Johnson. Brick is a gem of a film, ingeniously mashing two of the most American of genres as high schooler Brendan Frye (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) turns detective to investigate the death of his former girlfriend Emily (Emilie de Ravin). In his investigation Brendan must navigate through a rogues gallery of drug dealers, informants, femme fatales and the school authorities.

Brick is my favourite film of all time. I expect I have seen it on more than ten occasions since I first saw it on TV in 2007, and each time I see it I love it even more. Each time I watch it I find something new to love: the local drug baron The Pin (Lukas Haas) and his fondness for Tolkien; his homicidal sidekick Tugger (Noah Fleiss) and his crew of identical wife-beater wearing thugs; and the self-obsessed quarterback, Brad Bramish, and his prize routine comeback of “Yeah?”.

There’s not much about Brick that is genuinely original as such, but the skill and confidence with which Johnson throws such disparate elements into play together equals more than the sum of its parts, and proves again and again that you just can’t beat a great script delivered by good performances. Johnson’s dynamic directorial style makes his Sundance award winning debut such a joy to watch that any attempt to define Brick solely by its genre really cannot accurately convey the tone of the picture. Fantastic.

Last night after a praticulary long day I was in desperate need of some comfort programming.  Now I could have finished watching Season 1 of Fringe, but frankly although I like the show it is starting to feel like homework because I borrowed it from a friend and everytime I look at it I just know that I have to complete it and get it back to her.  The pressure of watching it was just too much for a long day so instead I went for one of my personal favorites, Roswell.  And then I realized that I could include Roswell in My personal favorite series so score on both parts.  Guys let me just say that sometimes the best Saturday nights are spent vegging out with what makes us happy. 

Can I just say thank the Gods for The SciFi Channel.  I have discovered so many great shows through that channel.  What a great channel that is.  It has everything from Miami Beach Shark Attack (don’t laugh it is cheesy brilliant) to Megafault.  And for those crazy SciFi television show fans Roswell, Tru Calling, Moonlight, Ghost Hunters, Sanctuary, and well loads of other fangeek goodness.  Although I am pretty sure Roswell is no longer showing on SciFi, but that is ok because thanks to them I own the complete series on DVD.  Oh yeah that’s right all 3 seasons.  When I first bought Seasons 1 & 2 I stayed up for almost 48 hours marathon watching all the DVDs.  And let me just say that it took alot of Mountain Dew and talking short walks to get through them.  Crazy right?  Wrong.  It was awesome.  For 48 hours I wasn’t thinking about paying bills, going to my dreaded job, or the plight which had become my love life.  For 48 hours I was totally and completely engrossed in the lives of four aliens and their friends.  It was so completely relaxing. 

 In October of 1999 The WB began airing Roswell, a show that was produced and co-written by one of my favorite writer’s Jason Katims.  Roswell was based off the young adult books Roswell High (which I have been meaning to get a hold of for sometime now) and they followed Max & Isabel Evans, Michael Guerin, & Tess Harding.  Four aliens who crash landed on earth in what would later become known as The Roswell Incident.  The premise of the show is rather simple, Max Evans sees that the love of his life, Liz Parker, has been accidently shot while waitressing at the CrashDown Cafe (probably the coolest cafe ever assembled) and instead of hiding his not quite human status he exposes himself and Michael & Isabel in the process by using his powers to save Liz.  And as is so often the case with teen dramas chaos quickly ensues and doesn’t let up until the series finale.  Joining our merry band of aliens are their human comrades Liz, Maria DaLuca, Alex Whitman, & Kyle & Sheriff Jim Valenti. 

While the first season focus more on establishing relationships and bringing everyone together, it also manages to build on the mystery that surrounds how the 4 came to have crashed on earth.  It does so successfully because both sides compliment the other without overpowering each other.  It as if the two sides needed each other in order to coexist.  I did feel as though they left my new fanboy crush, Colin Hanks, out alot but after I discovered that was because he was working on other projects I didn’t feel quite so badly.  Unfortunately it was during the second season that things began to lose their focus and suddenly none of it made sense any more.  In fact somewhere in Season 2 and I apologize but I am not quite sure where it comes into play be it on a DVD itself or possibly in the packet that comes with it, but somewhere you will notice that there was an episode in which Alex and Michael switch identies and a case of extra-terrestial freak friday occurs.  Except this episode is no where to be found.  In fact it isn’t even included in the deleted scenes.  Another disturbing thing about Season 2 is that none of the episodes are cohesive with the one that came before it.  It was as though they were trying to lay the groundwork for a series mystery that would last until the end but could never quite decide which mystery they wanted to focus on and in the end focused on none of them.

  That was of course until the writers had to come up with a way to write the Alex Whitman character out of the show, because Colin had spent more time working on other projects than he had on the show.  Finally with the loss of a friend the series was able to ground itself back into what made it so compelling in the first place.   The emotional connection was back.  For most of the second season there was so much focus on the science fiction part of the show that they lost sight of the emotional component.  But in one single episode the scifi part of the show took a back seat and for the rest of the season you could tell the writers were more focused and had an end game.  Unfortunately by the time the show reached it’s third and ultimately it’s last season the writing was firmly on the wall.  Luckily though instead of fighting it the writers and producers of the show allowed for the show to take it’s natural course and by the end we were left with the feeling that everything in their lives were going to be ok.  Seeing as how I didn’t begin to watch the show until years after it had left the air I was pleased with the fact that the series ended in the 3rd season and with a sense of finality because I have found that too often shows go on and on until the viewer no longer realizes why they loved the show in the first place.  But if you ever find yourself with 48 well no make that 60 hours (I forgot to include the final season) to spare and feel like you need a mental escape I highly recommend this little known gem.

In serata poi ha anche incontrato il pubblico dopo la proiezione in anteprima della pellicola.
Il film racconta la storia del mitico fuorilegge dell’epoca della Grande Depressione Economica Americana, John Dillinger (Johnny Depp)—il carismatico rapinatore di banche reso dai suoi raid lampo l’obiettivo principale del migliore agente dell’FBI dei tempi di J. Edgar Hoover, Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale), e divenuto una sorta di eroe popolare agli occhi degli americani di quel periodo. Nessuno poteva fermare Dillinger e la sua banda. Non esisteva prigione dalla quale non riuscisse ad evadere. Una pellicola di cui la critica ha tessuto le lodi in questi ultimi mesi e che promette di restare a lungo nella memoria del  pubblico che si recherà al cinema per vederlo. Per ambientazione ricorda quel capolavoro che fu ‘Gli Intoccabili’ ma  l’utilizzo della camera digitale ha permesso a Mann di dargli quel senso di reale che in un film di genere è assolutamente innovativo.

Il suo è un cinema della sfida, che ancora una volta ci propone un confronto tra due uomini che seguono ideali diversi. Come è riuscito nel 2009 a fare un fim classico e così sperimentale al contempo?
“Non so bene come questo film si inserisca nella mia filmografia. Io sono stato molto affascinato dal concetto di questa vita che ha brillato per un tempo brevissimo. Mi sono molto interessato all’idea di immaginarla e, se possibile, di immergere il pubblico all’interno dell’esperienza di un personaggio come Dillinger cercando di riportarlo in vita. Se il film funziona ci si trasferisce nella sua esperienza e questa è la magia del cinema, che ci consente di vedere le cose dall’interno. Io volevo vedere Johnny Depp in un ruolo simile, un ruolo che portasse in superficie le emozioni di Dillinger. E’ stata una sfida”.

Durante le riprese avete avuto in mano gli oggetti di Dillinger. Come è nato il film, vi siete ispirati a cose vere, per le leggende siete andati a scavare o vi siete solo attenuti al libro?
“Amo molto fare film d’epoca, e quando li giro mi chiedo come possiamo sentirci trasportati in quegli specifici momenti, giorni e anni. Per me l’imperativo era riuscire ad essere dettagliato per riportare tutti nel 1934, in quel momento a quella specifica ora, far sentire che quel personaggio era vivo…volevo riportare in vita il presente che è un passato ma con una simulazione molto forte, in modo che noi del pubblico potessimo viverla come una realtà.Come pensavano questi personaggi? Io ho cercato di capire la psicologia di quel periodo, come Billie potesse affidarsi alla fede; ho sempre amato gli anni ’30 e la fede era importante perchè questa gang affermava di agire sempre come se si trattasse di piccole operazioni militari, senza avere progetti per il futuro, per cui sapevano che alla fine il destino avrebbe fatto il suo corso. Non c’era nessun piano di fuga all’estero e questo mi ha affascinato, mi ha affascinato usare delle frasi che usavano loro, come: “bisogna fare ciò che si fa divertendosi”. Io sono cresciuto proprio nella zona dove c’era il Biograph, ho visto cosa veniva proiettato in quel cinema e la storia di Dillinger mi era molto familiare: quando passavamo lì davanti mio padre mi raccontava spesso la sua storia. Con lui non c’era una donna in rosso, ma con gonna e camicetta, quel dettaglio faceva parte della leggenda.Quando con Johny Depp siamo entrati al Little Bohemia Lodge nella stanza che lo aveva ospitato, ci siamo sentiti molto emozionati, perchè contribuiva all’immedesimazione. Stessa cosa vale per Bale, che era appostato tra gli stessi alberi in cui si era appostato il vero Purvis. Nella parte finale, all’uscita del cinema, morendo Johnny guarda gli stessi mattoni, lo stesso muro che Dillinger aveva visto negli ultimi istanti”.

Questo film ricorda molto alcuni western crepuscolari, come “Pat Garrett e Billy the kid”, nel suo ritrarre la fine di un mondo con il passaggio dai gangster  isolati, eroici, ai cartelli della mafia, allo strutturarsi dell’FBI. C’era l’intento di raccontare un epoca di passggio?
“I punti che ha sottolineato sono parte di una stessa immagine. Credo sia interessante il contesto della sua vita, con i grandi cambiamenti della società dell’epoca, questo mi ha interessato. La liquidità del crimine organizzato ne permise la transizione, la struttura della polizia si stava centralizzando in qualcosa di nuovo, quindi avevamo da un lato la polizia federale, dall’altro il crimine organizzato, entrambi contro Dillinger e parte di uno stesso contesto. Ma questa non è la storia che racconto, è solo parte del contesto del tempo. Quello che muoveva Dillinger, e che mi ha interessato, era la sua sete di vita: un uomo giovane, chiuso in prigione per 10 anni, che esce e vuole tutto subito e il fatto che tutto sia avvenuto in nove settimane, questo ha creato la sua leggenda”.

Una cosa interessante è come ha saputo portarci, grazie all’uso del digitale, all’interno di una guerra in cui sembra di essere in prima linea. Come ha lavorato, la incuriosisce anche il 3D?
“Mi piacerebbe avere il dialogo in 3D. Immergendo il pubblico in uno stato di guerra si ha coinvolgimento. Abbiamo scelto di usare il digitale una notte di pioggia a L.A.: avevamo una buick e delle comparse vestite con i costumi di scena, le abbiamo messe contro il muro ed effettuato una ripresa sia in digitale che in pellicola. Il primo restituiva appieno la realtà di quello che avveniva in quel momento, mentre la pellicola dava il sapore del tempo passato. Essenziale è stato anche far diventare protagoniste le armi: il museo di arte moderna ha queste mitragliatrici che sono effettivamente oggetti di grande arte. Quando le si usa se ne sente il rumore, la forza, si riesce a capire cosa si provava in quel momento. Ci siamo concentrati su suono, immagine, tutto quello che c’era in quella situazione. Si coinvolgono gli attori, ad esempio quando si guida un’auto del ‘30 la sensazione è diversa dal guidarne una moderna, e per un breve momento si ha la sensazione di stare lì: abbiamo cercato di far sì che tutto fosse reale”.

Si tratta di una storia già raccontata, ma le altre volte viene descritta come l’uscita dalla grande depressione. C’è in questo caso un legame con la realtà odierna?
“Si tratta in realtà di una coincidenza sfortunata, non è stata la crisi economica globale il motivo che mi ha spinto a girarla. Spesso ci si riferisce ad una storia in particolare perchè c’è un aggancio con la realtà, io sono interessato agli anni ‘30 da molto tempo, ho anche progetti che riguardano Parigi e la Spagna in quegli anni, i miei genitori li hanno vissuti e mi hanno raccontato come fosse viverci, lo stessi XXI secolo è nato dalla depressione che ha generato le forze che ci hanno mandato avanti”.

Elemento ricorrente nella sua filmografia è il protagonista che prende tempo per la riflessione. Qui questo momento emotivamente catartico sembra venire negato, è come se il protagonista fosse svuotato dall’elemento emotivo.
“Per me era importante quello che era nella sua mente: mi immagino seduto al suo posto nel Biograph, lo guardo mentre guarda il grande schermo, lui era l’eroe negativo del tempo, sempre sui giornali e si rivede nei panni di Gable che era in effetti modellato su di lui. Cosa penserò in quel momento, quali saranno le mie emozioni? E’ questo il punto focale della scena e la chiusura del film: sarebbe stato riduttivo aggiungere un dialogo, o un voice over che ne esplicitasse i pensieri. Volevo che il pubblico immaginasse ciò che Dillinger provava e vedeva”.

Ai tempi di “Collateral” ha dichiarato che era molto faticoso girare con attrezzature così ingombranti. Oggi è diverso, è per questo che usa il digitale? O solo per restituire quel senso di immediatezza, come ci ha detto?
“In effetti è diventato più semplice, ma per me il vantaggio principale  è ciò che il digitale mi consente di fare, 8-9 volte di più che con la pellicola. Lì bisogna sottostare alla chimica, qui ho più capacità di intervento, una qualità che punta al dettaglio, ma il digitale è utilizzabile anche in modo che non si veda la differenza con l’analogico. Il che, però, non significa che non tornerò alla pellicola, che mi piace molto”.

Vorrei tornare alla domanda precedente per rispondere al meglio: quando Dillinger siede nel cinema, sente che il suo tempo è giunto altermine? Se sì, come reagisce?
“Quando cammina fuori dal Biograph, è una liberazione, perchè sa che il suo percorso si è concluso: questo volevamo esprimere io e Johnny”.

Questo film è libero dal peso psicologico del cinema passato: è un approccio interessante perchè il protagonista non viene eroicizzato attraverso il racconto dei suoi problemi. E’ una nuova chiave per raccontare un personaggio negativo?
“Io volevo immergermi nella vita di Dillinger con le sue contraddizioni, non raccontarne l’infanzia e il passato come in una biografia. Non si sa niente del suo passato, ma i dettagli ci fanno entrare nel personaggio: all’inizio c’è l’abbandono del suo mentore, e si percepisce l’intensità del collegamento con quell’uomo. Anche quando fa evadere i suoi amici, comprendiamo il suo mondo emotivo, si apprende qualcosa di lui, anche se il pubblico non se ne rende conto. Questa è stata la sfida intriore che mi ha motivato”.

Quanto ha pesato la manipolazione dell’opinione pubblica nel trattamento del soggetto?
“E’ così che inizia storicamente. La manipolazione dei media inizia con una grande propaganda in maniera del tutto innovativa: nel ’29 a collegare l’America è la Radio, mentre nel ’33 tutti andavano al cinema. Avviene qualcosa nei cinema di tutto il paese, e Hoover lo usa: invece di usare i media, manda tramite il grande schermo un’informazione in tutto il paese. Nessuno lo aveva mai fatto prima. E’ un personaggio estremamente innovativo, mentre Dillinger sta diventando obsoleto, perchè il mondo va avanti. Lui è il meglio del suo genere, ma è solo. Non si tratta di un tema nuovo, lo troviamo già ne ‘Il mucchio selvaggio’”.

Cosa ha chiesto a Depp e Bale per il faccia a faccia? E in generale, come lavora con gli attori?
“Lavoro in maniera tradizionale, faccio sì che si immergano nel personaggio, che ci siano esperienze che li trasportano in quel momento e li facciano pensare come loro. E loro sono straordinari e immediati. Noi abbiamo cercato di apprendere il più possibile da quello che avevamo: con Johnny siamo andati a Crown Point mentre con Bale, abbiamo cercato di trasformarlo realmente in un aristocratico del Sud degli anni ’30 come era Purvis”.
