British rapper Chipmunk, 18, seems to have got his life back on track after last weeks suicidal comments. The North London recording artist posted on Twitter saying: “I wanna die” and “Is suicide easy.”

The rap artist was catapulted to fame earlier this year, and has enjoyed recent success in the charts with his track Oopsy Daisy reaching number one in the UK charts.

Chipmunk is alledged to have been working 18 hours a day at times and used this week as a time for entertainment and rest.

Chipmunk spoke this week and said: “I’m on a trip back to normaility. I’m in good health and it’s all good.”

To unwind Chipmunk attended Rihanna’s London gig on Monday night in Brixton along with; Adele, Keisha Buchanan, Tinchy Stryder and Emma Bunton.

The Sony recording also attended one of the advanced screenings for the film Paranormal Activity which has now been officially released.

Recentemente estava pensando como em certos girl groups, de diversas épocas, há sempre uma “ovelha negra”; normalmente a primeira garota a sair da banda, tenta carreira solo com algo totalmente diferente do que fazia antes, é aclamada pela crítica e ignorada pelo público, normalmente sendo consideradas “flops” comerciais, devido ao fracasso de vendas dos singles ou álbuns. Então decidi fazer uma lista de ex-integrantes de girl groups que considero “underrated”, que fazem um trabalho digno de reconhecimento e aclamado, mas que acaba passando batido pelo público. Aí vai:

5º lugar: Emma Bunton

A “Baby Spice” era a mais novinha do girl group mais famoso das últimas duas décadas, Spice Girls, mas também era a mais interessante, musicalmente falando. Emma Bunton não conseguiu lá grande êxito comercial, mas de todas as ex-spice, é a que mais se destaca em carreira solo (embora Geri Halliwell tenha sido a mais bem sucedida comercialmente), graças ao seu segundo álbum, “Free Me“, de 2004. Com influências de soul, 60’s, rock, world music e até mesmo bossa nova, o álbum é bastante diversificado e interessante, melhor que qualquer álbum de suas ex-colegas.

4º lugar: Florence Ballard

Um dos primeiros girl groups da história da música, The Supremes eram as estrelas supremas (infame, risos.) da gravadora Motown nos anos 60. Florence Ballard fez parte da formação clássica do grupo, ao lado de Mary Wilson e Diana Ross, essa última a mais bem sucedida do trio. Dona de uma voz tão forte quanto seu temperamento, Florence tinha uma certa rivalidade com Diana, já que todos os holofotes e méritos que o grupo recebiam eram direcionados a ela; esse e outros fatores causaram diversas brigas e culminaram na saída de Florence. Após sua saída do grupo, ela gravou um álbum solo, que acabou sendo engavetado pela gravadora após o fracasso comercial de seus singles. Florence Ballard faleceu em 1976, aos 32 anos, e seu álbum solo (que diga-se de passagem é muito bom) foi lançado somente em 2002 (sob o título de “The Supreme Florence Ballard“), 26 anos após sua morte. ):

3º lugar: Rachel Stevens

O S Club 7 não era exatamente um girl group, já que possuía três homens e quatro mulheres em sua formação, mas considerando que apesar disso ele é considerado um por muita gente, resolvi colocar a Rachel na lista, porque ela merece. Após o fim do S Club, em 2003, Rachel Stevens lançou seu primeiro álbum solo, Funky Dory. Apesar de alguns singles legais, o álbum não empolgou tanto, apesar das boas vendas. Porém, no ano seguinte, o álbum foi relançado com o single inédito de Rachel, Some Girls: a faixa fez diferença, e que diferença! Como na mesma época Rachel estava trabalhando em um novo álbum, Some Girls criou várias expectativas, e quando o álbum, Come and Get It, finalmente foi lançado, não decepcionou: uma verdadeira obra-prima da música pop, fugindo da maioria dos clichês do gênero e mesmo assim mantendo a sonoridade agradável e viciante; exatamente como um bom pop deve ser. Porém, o álbum foi um fracasso comercial e Rachel não gravou nada inédito desde então. ):

2º lugar: Siobhan Fahey

Siobhan Fahey era integrante do girl group Bananarama nos anos 80, famoso por hits como Venus e Robert De Niro is Waiting. Elas também participaram da primeira versão do single de caridade Do They Know It’s Christmas?, organizado pelos músicos Bob Geldof e Midge Ure.

Mas falemos sobre Siobhan. Em 1988, decepcionada com a direção que o grupo estava tomando, ela deixou o Bananarama e criou um projeto musical solo, chamado Shakespear’s Sister (o erro na grafia é intencional). Com o tempo, a cantora Marcella Detroit se juntou ao projeto, formando assim uma dupla. O projeto foi bastante aclamado e mostrou um lado mais introvertido e sofisticado de Siobhan, com suas composições maduras e figurino que pode ser descrito como “dark” e “glam“. O primeiro álbum, Sacred Heart, de 1988, não foi bem sucedido comercialmente, apesar do sucesso entre a crítica. Mas o segundo álbum, Hormonally Yours, de 1992 (o título referenciava o fato de que ambas estavam grávidas na época das gravações), foi um sucesso ainda maior, obtendo grande êxito comercial, e até emplacando um hit #1 no Reino Unido, a balada Stay. Porém, desentendimentos entre Marcella e Siobhan acabaram desfazendo a parceria. Marcella seguiu carreira solo e Siobhan prosseguiu com o nome Shakespear’s Sister por algum tempo, mas após o fracasso comercial do single “I Can Drive“, ela abandonou a gravadora e entrou em uma longa batalha judicial para conseguir lançar seu terceiro álbum, conseguindo lançá-lo independentemente somente oito anos depois. Apesar disso, ela lançou alguns singles sob o nome de Siobhan Fahey; um deles, Bitter Pill, destacou-se por ter ganhado um cover parcial de outro girl group, Pussycat Dolls, em 2005, sob o nome de Hot Stuff (I Want You Back). A propósito, a original é bem melhor!

Recentemente, Siobhan Fahey finalmente lançou um álbum novo, Songs From the Red Room, utilizando o nome Shakespear’s Sister pela primeira vez em cinco anos.

1º lugar: Siobhán Donaghy

E o primeiro lugar também é de uma Siobhan! Mais precisamente, de uma Siobhán, apesar dela não utilizar o acento em seus lançamentos artísticos. Siobhán Donaghy fazia parte do girl group britânico de maior sucesso da atualidade, Sugababes, e foi uma das três garotas originais a fazer parte do grupo. Atualmente nenhuma delas ainda faz parte das Sugababes, o que não faz sentido algum, mas isso é outra história.

Siobhán foi a primeira a sair do grupo, alegando querer seguir carreira de modelo; mas após algum tempo, admitiu que saiu do grupo devido ao bullying constante de sua colega Keisha Buchanan, que a humilhava e excluía constantemente. Pouco tempo depois, em 2003, ela lançou seu primeiro álbum solo, Revolution in Me. Com influências de trip-hop, rock alternativo e o bom e velho pop, destacou-se por ser um álbum bastante variado e agradável. Porém, o álbum não era exatamente acessível, a promoção fraquíssima de sua gravadora na época não ajudou e Revolution in Me acabou sendo um fracasso comercial. Quatro anos depois, em uma nova gravadora e trabalhando com outros produtores, ela lançou uma verdadeira obra-prima: Ghosts, com influências de Shakespear’s Sister, Kate Bush e música experimental. Obviamente, o resultado final é ainda menos comercial que seu antecessor. Apesar de ter vendido mais que Revolution in Me, não atingiu as expectativas de venda da gravadora, que rompeu o contrato com Siobhán. Pouco tempo depois, ela anunciou que não faria mais música enquanto o mercado musical continuar tão injusto quanto é hoje. Felizmente, em entrevista recente, ela alegou que só estava dando um tempo, e que já está escrevendo novas músicas para seu terceiro álbum solo. Torceremos para que ele obtenha o grande êxito comercial que Siobhán merece!

There are all kinds of rumors flying around after the Spice Girls Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, and Melanie Chisholm had dinner last week. The theory is that another reunion is in the works, and more and more that seems to be accurate.

Recently, Geri was on a British talk show and confirmed that the girls were chatting about some “future plans”.

Now Mel B. has Tweeted about the rumors, confirming them!!!!

She says:

“World cup! wow the press are soo silly no I am not getting the girls together for the world cup!!! We are getting together for other reasons!”

What reasons?! Don’t leave us hanging like that!!!

If it is another tour, they need to hurry up and do it!

Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell et Melanie C ont attisé les rumeurs de leur réunion lorsque quatre des cinq membres de la troupe ont partagé un souper dans un restaurant de Londres, le 21 septembre dernier.

Au lendemain de leur rencontre qui devait demeurer secrète, Geri Halliwell racontait à un animateur d’une émission britannique qu’elle et ses acolytes étaient toujours à la recherche de projets artistiques intéressants: «Pour l’instant, nous échangeons des idées pour une possible réunion, mais nous ne voulons pas partager la nouvelle avec le monde entier jusqu’à ce que nos plans se concrétisent…»

Plusieurs rumeurs avaient alors émergé racontant que les filles allaient donner une prestation lors du match final de la Coupe du monde de soccer qui se déroulera en Afrique du Sud, en juillet prochain.

Mercredi matin, Mel B s’est chargée de mettre les pendules à l’heure sur sa page Twitter: «Wow les rumeurs se propagent vite! Nous n’irons pas à la Coupe du monde. Il y aura bel et bien une réunion, mais pour une tout autre occasion!»

Les membres des Spice Girls ont interrompu leur dernière tournée mondiale en février 2008 en expliquant que des engagements familiaux les empêchaient de se rendre à Pékin, Hong Kong, Sydney, Cape Town et Buenos Aires, comme prévu à leur calendrier de spectacles.

Des sources proches des chanteuses me racontent qu’elles débuteront bel et bien une toute nouvelle série de spectacles dans les villes où elles ont manqué leur dernier rendez-vous, et ce, dès juin 2010.

So, despite breaking up with the father of two of her kids, and then moving some cage fighter into his bed within the space of a few months, it seems that Katie is doing a great job of being a parent, and that confusing little Junior so much that he’s taken to called Alex ‘daddy’ is deserving of the gong.

Personally I’d like to see any one of the other contenders, Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Emma Bunton, Tess Daly, Myleene Klass or last year’s winner Suzanne Shaw take home the prize, after all, they not only set a good example to their kids, but to us adults as well.

He started to play sax at the age of 14 and got his first paid gig in the same year. At the Colchester Institute, whilst studying for a classical music degree, he turned to jazz and improvised music and went on to the Guildhall School of Music where he gained a Postgraduate Advanced Certificate in Jazz and Studio Music and a L.G.S.M. It seems that black is officially the, erm, new black. Bright colours were out at last night’s Pride of Britain Awards, as a wealth of female stars donned LBDs for the star-studded bash which honours the nation’s unsung heroes.

Leading the monochrome charge down the red carpet was X Factor judge Cheryl Cole who looked stunning in a one-shouldered puff-ball minidress which she teamed with bright red lipstick.

Bandmate Kimberely Walsh had a Carrie Bradshaw moment in a clingy black number complete with an oversized floral corsage. While, Kelly Brook was channelling Audrey Hepburn in a classy cocktail dress.

Myleene Klass was another black beauty in an edgy number which was see-through at the back. She said: ‘It’s a real privilege to be able to come here and pay homage to people who really do deserve it and who are often overlooked.

‘People who’ve been so courageous, so courageous you can’t possibly imagine what they’ve been through.’

Other stars following the trend were former Spice Girl Emma Bunton, Strictly’s Natalie Cassidy who added a Goth edge in her crushed velvet body con number and welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins who looked classy and composed.

Among the few guests who didn’t opt for an LBD were Dannii Minogue, in a leopard-print maxidress, and boyfriend Kris Smith, Mel B, who dazzled in a long-sleeved coral minidress and Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts who stood out from the crown in her ivory-coloured Vivienne Westwood gown.

Need a little spice in your life? Consider your craving fulfilled now that talks of a second Spice Girls reunion are surfacing.

According to Britain’s The Sun, all five members — Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham — have been discussing the possibilities of a doing follow-up tour to their successful 2007 trek Return of the Spice Girls.

But, not every Spice is keen on being added to the mix just yet.

The tabloid reports that both Beckham and Bunton are being “cautious” to commit because of the rigorous touring schedule and it’s effect on their families. L.A.-based Beckham is the mother of three (and only three!) while Bunton gave birth to her first bundle of joy, a boy named Beau, in August 2007.

C’mon and do it girls! Say you’ll be there!

Regardless of any doubts the girls may have a source said, “Both the Mels and Geri are the driving force behind making it happen… [and] this time next year at least four of the five girls will be back on stage doing the Spice material again.”

Because as a galaxy of stars turned out for a charity bash in London tonight, the red carpet was turned into a sea of black-clothed VIPs.

In a departure from the usual mix of colour which graces such events, the array of celebs were hard to pick out in their monotone ensembles as they arrived in earnest at the capital’s Grosvenor House.

Leading the pack was X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, who looked stunning in a short pleated dress, which she teamed with a sparkly bracelet and bright red lip stick.

Myleene Klass donned a provocative number, which was see-though at the back and came complete with ruffled netting on her derriere.

Meanwhile Kelly Brook went for the demure look in a flattering black cocktail-style dress and wore her long locks in a high ponytail.

But they were not the only ones to choose black. They were joined by the likes of Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh, former Spice Girl Emma Bunton and Welsh opera star Katherine Jenkins, who were among the many more who opted for the colour.

The stars were out in force to honour the nation’s unsung heroes at the Pride of Britain Awards, an annual ceremony hosted by the Daily Mirror.

Those who did inject a splash of colour to proceedings included former Blue Peter presenter Konnie Huq, clad in a dazzling blue dress and Big Brother host Davina McCall, who wore a stand-out sequined silver top and metallic jeans.

But Mel B and Arlene Phillips might have been best following the rest of pack, with their peach dresses clashing catastrophically with the red carpet.

A pale Nicola Roberts also made a fashion faux pas, almost disappearing in an ivory prom-style dress.

Among those honoured at the event tonight included a four-year-old girl severely burned while saving her sister from a scalding bath and a Marine who rugby-tackled a potential suicide bomber.

Celebrities praised the stars of the evening for their ‘wonderful’ acts of courage and bravery as they arrived for the ceremony.

Actress Joanna Lumley said: ‘I think it’s lovely they recognise all sorts of extraordinary people and extraordinary things. It’s wonderful.’

‘People who’ve been so courageous, so courageous you can’t possibly imagine what they’ve been through.’

The awards recognise acts of courage, selflessness and endurance and achievement against the odds by ordinary people.

The Prince of Wales has recorded a video message for this year’s awards and will tell tonight’s audience: ‘These awards remind all of us that, despite what one might think, throughout this country there are extraordinary people living selfless lives, showing unbelievable courage and caring for their families, neighbours and communities.’

Many of the nominees have been involved in dramatic acts of courage, like 56-year-old Sally-Ann Sutton who threw herself on to a crazed rottweiler to stop it attacking a baby.

Others have turned their life around and helped others learn from their mistakes like Chris Saunders, 33, a former heroin addict who now saves the lives of young drug abusers.

The courage of the Armed Forces will also be recognised with an award for the UK’s Camp Bastion field hospital in Afghanistan and two brave soldiers.

The audience will see the moment a young leukaemia survivor, who has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for Great Ormond Street Hospital, met his music idol, Take That star Gary Barlow.

And Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity will open the show with a specially created dance routine.

The event, now in its 11th year, will be hosted by Carol Vorderman, and screened on ITV1 at 8pm on Wednesday.

She said: ‘It’s always such a great pleasure hosting Pride of Britain. For me, it is the only awards show on TV that really matters because the winners are real people who could not be more deserving.’

Some interesting news for Spice Girls fans.

According to The Sun, the Spice Girls plan on being on the road this time next year…minus Victoria!

Apparently the Mel B, Mel C, and Geri are meeting with Emma next week to convince her because she’s a bit hesitant herself.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. Though I would never pass up a chance to see any combination of the Girls, I definitely think some charisma would be lost without Victoria. When I saw the reunion tour back in January of 2008 in D.C., the crowd definitely responded to Victoria with loud screaming and applause compared to the others. Why do another reunion without all of you.

The only way I can see this being justified is if the 4 of them (Mel B, Mel C, Geri, and Emma) record a new album of just them. Otherwise, they might come off as a bit desperate.

Either way I can’t wait to see whatever combination reunites!

Could it be true!? According to Geri Halliwell, Ginger Spice, it very well could be true.

After Perez Hilton.com posted a picture of the Spice Girls (minus Victoria) together last week, Geri Halliwell appeared on a morning radio show and had this to say about the future of the Spice Girls:

“We always talk about creative plans. Whatever happens afterwards is a bonus. Right now, I’ll be honest: we are gathering information about a possibility…[but] when you are evolving a plan, you don’t want to share it with the world.”

Kind of vague, but considering Geri has nothing else going for her, of course she is out running her mouth, hoping it happens. She wants paid!

A second reunion tour should garner a new album of material, if you ask me. Are we going to see light-hearted, spunky, Spice Girls songs on the Billboard Hot 100 again? I hope so!
