Creating Prosperity in America via Energy Independence

Embarking upon a plan of action to eliminate our society’s dependence on fossil fuels, both foreign and domestic, will result in great prosperity and would produce a dramatic drop in unemployment, climate change and governmental gridlock. While our world is full of ideologies and contradictory viewpoints, the one thing we can all agree upon is the need for abundant, secure and non-polluting sources of energy. Demand for energy is going to continue to grow and it is not a matter of if we will deplete our current supplies, but when.That day may be closer than we think.

As we will see in the coming weeks and months, there is a significant cost to our oil addiction that goes far beyond what we see during our lives. Every day that we fail to act results in existential risks that continue to grow. We all need to take responsibility for this conundrum we have gotten ourselves into and also take complete advantage of the opportunities which present themselves as we move forward with the necessary solutions.

We believe that small steps taken add up to big changes. While we work to identify unseen problems for our clients, our larger and more pressing mission is to utilize our technologies, knowledge and experiences to guide our residential and commercial clients to reduce and/or eliminate their energy usage. It is these small changes over time which will have a significant impact.

Our leaders in the United States military are among our world’s thought leaders and frankly, they are very concerned about our energy future. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in a article which appeared in the February 2010 issue of Joint Force Quarterly stated:

“Energy is the lifeblood of modern societies and a pillar of America’s prowess and prosperity. Yet energy is also a major source of global instability, conflict, pollution and risk. Many of the gravest threats to national security are intimately intertwined with energy, including oil supply interruptions, oil funded terrorism, oil fed conflict and instability, nuclear proliferation, domestic critical infrastructure vulnerabilities and climate change (which changes everything).”

A year later the Chairman issued a call to action for energy prosperity and energy security. The Pentagon is currently playing a key role in leading this mission.

Now, if some of our best and brightest military thinkers are concerned about our country’s dependence on fossil fuels, shouldn’t we be concerned as well?

Fossil Fuels Are Slowly Underminng Our Strength and Security

Like all humans we used to scavenge for our livelihood. Fossil fuels have not only allowed us to transform energy into a commodity but indeed have permitted us to transform entire societies. Most of us don’t have a clue as to the actual energy industry that surrounds us let alone how it functions. All of this energy, which has become synonymous with wealth and strength, somehow finds its way to us but we don’t seem to give a second thought as to how it gets to us. We have developed extremely sophisticated industries and distribution systems to insure that our homes, offices, factories, car, trucks, jets, etc.. receive all of the energy they require. Reliability, affordability, convenient and available whenever we flip a switch.

While our easy access to energy has enabled our society to reach the point it has today, there is a looming dark side. In ever subtle ways our lives have become more insecure and fearful. Our energy costs continue to increase and as a race of people we are becoming more dangerous and destructive to our planet and it’s inhabitants. Our food sources are becoming poisoned, our children are experiencing increases in asthma and other breathing diseases and there are the occasional incidents that have the potential to topple entire economies. Politicians are bought through the power and wealth of fossil fuels and these have also dictated entire governments. These fossil fuels are the catalyst for much corruption and war. As best we can tell, our planet’s atmosphere has changed more in the last 100 or so years than it has in the past 60 million years.

These fossil fuels we have grown so accustom to are slowly beginning to undermine the very strength and security they have allowed us to create for ourselves.
