Too often, the only time that teams spend together is around a table in a boardroom, on a cross region conference call, or on email. It’s all about business. However teams are made up of human beings and generally we are social creatures. We crave connection with others. Connection helps build trust and it comes from building familiarity. Finding out things about ourselves that we may have in common. This could include a commonality in life-stage, similar hobbies and interests, similar goals and dreams, similar challenges or experiences in our past, etc.

Generally, the “office” is not conducive to building this kind of familiarity. There are often too many rules and protocols or just too much “work” to do. This is where “fun” team building events can play a role. They often get people out of their regular routine and element and they behave differently. It becomes ok to talk about ourselves and share. It’s like people can take of the “veil” of their work role and just be themselves. A great event also provides the team members with an experience that they share and can talk about or connect over.

We’re always on the look-out for and creating new experiences for teams out side of work. Our latest is called “So Your Team Thinks They Can Dance”. If you haven’t already figured it out, it is inspired by the popular TV reality show. It’s an energizing event designed to get people out of their shells, having fun and creating memories. For more you can see our website www.sixsenseinc.com/team-events

Can you imagine getting your team or organization fired up, connected, and focused every single morn

Can you imagine getting your team or organization fired up, connected, and focused every single morning with only a 9 minute meeting? In his book “The Rockefeller Habits” Vern Harnish, introduces the concept of a daily huddle. This is a high energy meeting that happens every morning at an odd time (e.g. 10:07am) for a short and odd period of time (e.g. 9 minutes). The entire team or organization must attend. In this meeting everyone has an opportunity to speak (fast) and the topics are very structured. For example there may be 5 topics:

How are you feeling today?

How are we tracking against our goals?

What is your number one priority for the day?

Do you have any red flags (ie issues you need to meet with others in the group about today)?

The key is that this is not an issues and discussion meeting but an update meeting. Issues are saved for later meetings. I have seen a company called I LOVE REWARDS conduct their huddle and it is truly amazing. The team comes out of the session excited, focused, connected and energized. If you’d like to see how a great huddle runs check out the 1-800-GOT JUNK huddle on youtube.
