Normally, we encourage our brides and grooms to hold off a couple of months to have their engagement pictures taken since Spring is right around the corner.  All the flowers and trees will be in bloom and full of life.   But Madison and Ben had other plans.  They decided to have their destination wedding at the incredible Monte Verde Inn over the holidays.  Yes, California was the destination since our wonderful couple are from Texas.  Madison and Ben had come into town a couple days before the wedding and we took advantage of the clear weather and the downtown charm of Old Town Auburn.

It just goes to show you that it really doesn’t matter what season or time of year it is,  your engagement session is as unique as you are.  There are so many locations all around our region that can offer amazing backdrops and inspirations to match your personality and desires.  Where would you like to have your engagement pictures taken? 

Had to include this last shot of the holiday ornaments for the Christmas spirit.  Madison and Ben were wonderful and we couldn’t wait for the wedding in two days.  Here are two sneak peeks from the wedding.  A perfect beginning to the holidays.  Merry Christmas and Congratulations to Madison and Ben.

Hillary and Cory – Part One

Remember how I said that every couple has their own distinct personality? Well this is one of them. Cory and Hillary are a fun couple and so easy going! They are a photographers dream! Hillary used to work with my husband in the San Antonio office of Workplace Resource. Such a sweetheart couple! Reminds me very much of my own lovely marriage.

Baseball is the theme for their wedding in May at Minute Maid Park in Houston! I so look forward to shooting some fun shots.

Sunday we had an engagement session with Ashley and Adam! It was so perfect outside! The trees were awesome Karen had the day off, so John helped out. THANKS JOHN! They were so much fun! I was sad when it came to an end It went by to so fast!

this week, we’d love to see all of you join us for an after christmas bridal show at the shadowbrook, in shrewsbury, nj. we have been a part of the bridal shows at the shadowbrook for several years now, and they are simply amazing. you get one on one time with each professional and there is only one of each category. this makes the show a lot less overwhelming and allows us to connect with most of the couples who come to the show. there will be live music, food, and drinks. all the things needed to stay warm going into the new year. the show is at 2 pm on sunday, dec. 27. i know all about football guys, but come on now, we want to see you there too. hope you all can make it.

also, you will be able to meet our great friends from sound connection entertainment at the show. they are an amazing dj entertainment company and you will be so pumped about what they do after you meet them.

Vivian & Thomas – Engagement Pictures in New York City
Today I had the pleasure of taking Vivian and Thomas to one of my favorite places in New York City. We started off at the Meat Packing District, worked our way to the Highline and finally ended our engagement photo session at the Chelsea Market. Since I’m on big-old-house mode…

Welcome to the house on Balete Drive.

For those of you who did not grow up with movies like Patayin sa sindak si Barbara or Shake, Rattle and Roll (the earlier ones), you probably would not know what Balete Drive means. But for those of us who do, a house on Balete Drive is always haunted, always scary, always sends shivers down the spine.

The Alcuaz mansion was built in the 1920s, and for some reason, this is where Mark Esteban and Liza Contemprate decided to have their (third) engagement shoot. I wonder if they were horror flick freaks when they were dating?

Every detail of the architecture was preserved in such a way that you will detach yourself from the present time. I was kind of expecting an old deep-eyed butler, in a sleek yet faded suit, to welcome us to the place. Instead, we were welcomed by a cool dude in short pants. All is well.

One of the best things I love about wedding blogging (besides the break it affords me from real-life issues caused by my recently crazy day job) is discovering emerging talents in the industry. Like Paolo Ruiz here. This guy, who recently dipped his finger into wedding photography, is charging only P5,000 for back-up wedding coverage and engagement shoots. I tell you, that rate is almost impossible to beat, and frankly, it’s not proportional to his talent. But hey, he’s just starting and I say if you need one good photographer whose fees won’t scare you, then you know where to look.

Mark and Lizie got married at the St. Peter Parish  last Dec.5, 2009 and had their lunch reception at the House that Fried Chicken Built. Yes, you got that right, Max’s! 8 ) Enjoy married bliss you guys!

Last weekend we met Stephanie and Justin at Franklin Park for a short engagement session.  Honestly they could not have picked a more beautiful (December) day.  We were anticipating paying admission to the Franklin Park Conservatory for a place to warm up, but we ended up never needing it!  Stephanie and Justin were a great, really laid-back couple to work with.  I asked them if they needed any formal-type portraits for the grandparents and  they just laughed.  I guess their grandparents are just as easy going as they are and pretty artistic too.  Justin was telling me how his grandmother was a singer on the radio in the 40’s, and when she married his grandfather they had quite the “edgy” wedding – black wedding dress and all.  I think he called them “the original goth rockers.”  I can see why there was no need for the formal portrait.

Stephanie and Justin will be married March 20 here in Columbus.  Here’s a few of my favorites from last Saturday:

The sun was out in full force last Saturday and provided some great hard light for us to play around with some lens flares and halo lighting…

i love it when i fall upon a new photographer’s work.  it makes me all giddy to scour their blog for their previous work and just fall in love love with what they’ve done.

take for example, the dynamic combo of Brandon Patoc and Yuriy Manchik.

Yuriy Manchik is the man in love with the gorgeous woman in these images.  Yuriy did the processing himself, however, asked his friend, Brandon Patoc to photograph Yuriy and his fiancée.

Ahh, the holiday season… here in California, that means a little rain, it gets darker faster and the temperature drops to about what feels like 29 degrees but during the mid-day it’s full sun like the summer! So it was perfect conditions to do a shoot out in Fullerton.

This time I was a second shooter/assistant for Ming Chien.  As always I’m grateful for the privilege to be able to work with a photographer of his caliber. The chance to learn from someone like him is worth more than any formal teaching or college class.

Anyway, Traci had asked Ming to be her wedding photographer since they’ve known each other for almost 8 years in their workplace. So natural this was a fun shoot because it was just like old friends hanging out and it sure didn’t feel like work at all! Robert and Traci are probably the most laid back couple I’ve met so far. They’re easy going about everything.

Their house in Fullerton is beautiful. It’s near down town so the house has that vintage, rustic style to it. They even had a barn door style garage door, first time seeing that. Anyway, we went all over Fullerton for the shots and had a blast especially at the meadow! To end it all, Traci & Robert treated us out to The Hat afterwards! Let’s just say the food we ordered was definitely not model-friendly.
