Google Vs Bing ; Keep It Simple Smarty!!

Like a midnight owl, trying to keep my eyes open while browsing through the search engine index of web page results, something Clicked me.

While Google is my Best Friend forever and eternity, Microsoft has made an innovative come back with its latest Search Engine “Bing”. The day I heard about its launch on B.B.C  [British Broadcasting Corporation], I intuitively concluded that no matter how good it might be, it still won’t be able to grab the market from Google in full. This is the same principle that Microsoft had applied to its Products especially the Windows OS. The market of Apple has also been growing esp. in Europe and America yet Windows remain the most common household OS, as I would put it. Once people are accustomed to something, it takes a while to change their attitude, adaptation and attachment with something. It’s a huge Persuasion Game and Believe ME it’s Hard.

Still I find myself quite quick and sudden to make the leap to Bing in certain cases. My Love for Google hasn’t restricted me to explore and utilize other services like Bing. I am not sure if others agree with me on this though.

If I have to search for “Images” for instance, I would switch to Bing and prefer it over Google.  While searching for an article on Asp.net Routing on Google right now and not finding suitable results, I had a huge realization that I should try Bing instead for very solid and logical reasons. Though my reasons might seem to some as Blind psychology rather than logical, I would still stick to it.

Anything Microsoft, simply let Microsoft find it for you since it would index all its stuff properly and efficiently. My logical reasoning did prove correct when I was returned a number of results all matching my search criteria perfectly.

So, next time if I need to search for anything Microsoft, I would simple keep my love for Google aside for a while and try paying Microsoft’s Bing a Visit. However, in real time though it sure seems that both are competing neck to neck and producing nearly identical results.

I have been reading Fichte’s The Vocation of Man, and have come away impressed, especially by Book III - Faith. 

Fichte is known for promoting a so-called philosophy of solipsism, penned in an an impenetrable style, but I found neither to be valid.  On the contrary, his writing is lucid and painstakingly addresses the greater social condition.  He starts from inquiring mind outward, in a Cartesian style, avoiding peripheral concepts.

Book III addresses several important issues – free determination and action (the soul), and the distinction between the two; the path of humanity and progress; and finally the individual will.

 I will have a post on each topic and want to begin with free will.  Revelation is inspired by a skepticism – how can we have any assurance that there is a real world, with any other selves in it? 

Fiche seeks to resolve the seeming contraction of a natural world which follows a set of physical laws in which an independent will can somehow operate and effect the appearances.

I believe this begins to address the question of: “How can an active philosophy succeed?”

“‘Not merely TO KNOW, but according to your knowledge TO DO, is your vocation’ – this is loudly proclaimed in the innermost depths of my soul, as soon as I recollect myself for a moment and turn my observation upon myself.  ‘Not for idle contemplation of yourself, not for brooding over devout sensations – no, for action you are here; action and action alone, determines your worth.’

This voice leads me out from presentation, from mere cognition, to something that lies beyond it and is entirely opposed to it; to something greater and higher than all knowledge, containing within itself the end and object of all knowledge.  When I act, I doubtless know that I act and how I act; nevertheless this knowledge is not the act itself, but only the observation of it.  This voice thus announces to me precisely what I sought: a something lying beyond mere knowledge, and, in its nature, wholly independent of knowledge…

…There is within me an impulse to absolute, independent self-activity.  Nothing is more unendurable to me than to be merely by another, for another, and through another; I must be something for myself and by myself alone.  This impulse I feel along with the perception of my own existence, it is inseparably united to my consciousness of myself. 

I explain this feeling to myself by reflection, and, as it were, add to this blind impulse the power of sight by means of thought.  According to this impulse I must act as absolutely independent being: thus I understand and translate the impulse.  I must be independent.  Who am I?  Subject and object in one – the conscious being and that of which I am conscious, gifted with intuitive knowledge and myself revealed in that intuition, the thinking mind and myself the object of the thought, inseparable and ever present to each other.  As both, I must be what I am, absolutely by myself alone – by myself originate conceptions, by myself produce a condition of things lying beyond these conceptions.  But how is the latter possible?  With nothing I cannot connect any being whatsoever; from nothing there can never arise any something; my objective thought is necessarily mediative only.  But any being that is connected with another being becomes thereby dependent; it is no longer a primary, original, and genetic, but only a secondary and derived, being.  I am constrained to connect myself with something: I cannot connect myself with another being without losing that independence which is the condition of my own existence.

My conception and origination of a purpose, however, is, by its very nature, absolutely free – producing something out of nothing.  With such a  conception I must connect my activity, in order that it may be possible to regard it as free, and as proceeding absolutely from myself alone.

In the following manner, therefore, I conceive of my independence as I.  I ascribe to myself the power of originating a conception simply because I originate it, of originating this conception simply because I originate this one – by the absolute sovereignty of myself as an intelligence…

…Here then, it appears, is the point at which consciousness connects with reality; the real efficiency of my conception, and the real power of action which, in consequence of it, I am compelled to ascribe to myself, is this point.  Let it be as it may with reality of a sensible world beyond me; I possess reality and comprehend it – it lies within my own being, it is native to myself.

I conceive this, my real power of action, in thought, but I do not create it by thought.  The immediate feeling of my impulse to independent activity lies at the foundation of this thought; the thought does no more than portray this feeling and accept it in its own form, the form of thought.  THis procedure may, I think, be vindicated before the tribunal of speculation.”

Knowing is not enough, action is also at the heart of being.

This takes us from the sensory world of appearances and raises the question of the independent mind: we know our own actions, but that knowledge is a mere observation.  Something stands beyond knowing/observation itself.

Within ourselves is the impulse to “absolute, independent self-activity” – free will, despite all evidence of cause-and-effect.  The soul proclaims itself – our own independence strikes us as true. 

We stand independent, and yet observe our own actions - “subject and object in one.”

However, it would appear that this independence is lost as soon as it becomes contingent with the greater world.

A sense of purpose must be absolutely free, otherwise it would lose its quality of independence.  The notion of “I” – the ego – comes to light.

It is with the notion of self that ”consciousness connects with reality.”  Thought is conceived, but is not its own engine.  To think, to act, we must have free will. 

The independent motor is independence itself.

This cannot be validated by any power less than faith, which ameliorates all hesitancy and misgivings.  Fichte’s independence recalls Descartes’ pineal gland, but instead of being the place where mind and body unite, it is the point where thought and action intersect.

The new LFA Supercar is scheduled to go into production at the end of 2010, but the pre-sale started on the 21^st of October. Only 500 units of the LFA will be produced and sold worldwide.

This past Wednesday, November 11, 2009 Eric Brooks, President of L.A. Car Connection, Inc. had the opportunity to ride in one, of three that are available in the world. Brooks sat shotgun next to professional driver, Scott Pruett when they reached a speed of 170 mph around the almost three mile racetrack. Brooks describes the experience as exhilarating. “There is nothing like this car, it truly is a one-of-a-kind.” Says Brooks.

The car has been quoted by experts, saying “The LFA is Ultra-responsive and extremely stable even when taken to the edge, the LFA creates a sense of reassurance that opens up a new world of driving emotion, exhilarating the senses to move the driver in more ways than one.”

The vehicle has several appealing features.  The LFA has a newly developed 4.8-liter V10 engine. With its very compact size, (smaller than the average V8), and incomparable power, it allows for optimal power-to-weight ratio.

The transmission along with the engine is placed within the wheelbase. With optimal placement of the transmission and the fuel tank being in front of the rear axle, this sleek beauty has exceptional performance and remarkable stability.

The Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety today dedicated two new fire apparatuses and a mini-pumper truck.  The two engines replace aged equipment that will be retired from the front lines after serving the county for more than 15 years each.  The older equipment will remain with the MFD fleet as relief apparatus.

The Purdy family was on hand for the blessing of a fire truck named in honor of the late paniolo or cowboy, Ikua Purdy. The litteral translation of "Ikua" is "a time to stand." Photo by Wendy Osher.

Maui Fire Firghter III Kyle Farm selected the names for the vehicles that will serve the Kula and Paia districts.  Engine 13, serving Kula was named Ikua, after the famous Maui paniolo or cowboy who worked for 30 years as a foreman at Ulupalakua Ranch.

“Ikua is an older name for the month of October, which is Ikuwa with a ‘W’, made famous in the chant, ‘I ku mau mau, I kua.’  Ikua literally means a time to stand—that’s what we do—when we answer a call or emergency, we rise up to meet that challenge in the same way Ikua Purdy did in his many feats,” said Farm.

The Purdy family was on hand for the blessing, including Firefighter I Parish Purdy from the Makawao station, who is the great grandson of Ikua Purdy.  “I’m honored and surprised, but the name is fitting because of the role the engine has in protecting life.  It will also serve the district where he (Ikua Purdy) once lived,” said Purdy.

Ikua Purdy stunned the American West by winning the 1908 World Roping Championship in Cheyenne, Wyoming where he roped his way into history.  He was inducted into the National Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame and is recognized for his legendary riding and roping skills.

Both engines are outfitted with Compressed air foam systems that will allow the department to battle wildland fires with less water.  They are 2009 models that are able to pump 1500 gallons of water per minute.  Engine 13 also has a 2-speed rear differential to help climb and descend the steep roads upcountry.  The E-One built engines were purchased with county funds at a cost of $541,970 each.

Engine 2, serving Paia, was named Ka Pukaua Ahi Kanana that is literally translated as Ferocious Warrior or Champion.  The naming of the vehicle was taken in part from the name of the old truck, Maka Koa, or Fierce Warrior.

“Pukaua is a general or champion, on the field of battle and a leader of men.  Ahi refers to the fish.  When our kupuna (elders) caught the fish, there was a story of how they pulled the line so fast over the gunnel of the canoe, it created fire.  Hence the name,” said Farm.  Kanana, the last part of the name, means ferocious.

The mini pumper truck for Paia was blessed with the name Peahi, which most recognizably refers to the surf spot also known as Jaws in the Paia District.  Peahi has several meanings, one referring the fan formation the waves make as they break and spit out over the bay.

“It can also mean to humble fire,” said Farm who explained that “pe” in the word “pepehi” means to strike and fall flat, while ahi means fire.

The Mini 2 pumper truck is designed to allow personnel to gain access to more remote areas quicker, that otherwise would be inaccessible with larger equipment.  The truck was purchased at a cost of $183,275 and replaces a 1978 model mini pumper that will now be used as a relief apparatus.

“A lot of time and effort went into acquiring these emergency response vehicles, which will enable our fire personnel to better protect our community,” said Mayor Charmaine Tavares. “It took a lot of planning and perseverance to obtain the necessary funding, especially during an economic downturn.”

Fire Chief Jeffrey Murray noted that the addition of these much-needed vehicles would not have been possible without help on many levels. “We are very grateful for the support of Mayor Tavares and her administration, the County Council, the Fire & Public Safety Commission and our dedicated staff, who pushed forward to make this happen,” he said.

All three vehicles were purchased with County funds, and were manufactured by E-One in Ocala Florida, represented by HT&T on Oahu.  Assistant Chief Alan Cordeiro oversaw the purchasing process.

Carfacts and CHANGING YOUR OIL…
The first thing you should do is go to your local discount auto store or WalMart and purchase your oil and filter.
I would suggest getting a good synthetic or synthetic blend (I have used Castrol Syntec for many years) most good brands have them. Use a synthetic oil for newer vehicles under 40,000 miles and a blend over 40,000 miles. These oils will help with saving your engine and saving fuel. Also purchase a good oil filter, one with a check valve in it to keep oil from running back into oil pan when engine is shut off. This will also help the life of your engine as there will be oil on critical parts when engine is restarted, Fram, AC and Purolator makes good ones.
With this purchase you have the best you can put in your engines oiling system. A typical engine will take 4-5 quarts of oil on a change, so it will cost you around $15.00-$20.00 depending on synthetic or blend oil. This is about the cost of a regular oil change at the Speedy Marts. They would charge $40.00-$50.00 for the synthetics and best filter. So now you have saved $20.00-$30.00 and you have the best you can put in your engine.
Think of your car as one of your children or grand children you want to keep it for a long time so don’t skimp on putting good products in it, it will pay off in the long run with less major breakdowns, classic motorcycle, .
Engine repair or the new cars can run from $1,500.00 to around $7,000.00 depending on what you drive. From a Geo Metro to a big SUV or Diesel Pick-up.
O.K. now you have your oil and filter, time to get to work. Find a solid spot on the front or side of vehicle undercarriage (frame or engine cradle) put jack under vehicle and raise it up high enough to get your jack stands under it then let car down on stands and remove jack. Always,always be safe and use the jack stands whenever you are working under your car.
Your engine should be warm when changing your oil so that most of old oil will drain out.
Find the drain plug in the deep end of the, classic motorcycle, oil pan,it will probably take a 1/2″ or 9/16″ standard closed end wrench, if metric should be a 13mm or 15mm closed end wrench.
Put your wrench, classic motorcycle, on the plug and turn counter clockwise (make sure your drain pan is close) remove plug and let drain into pan. After all the old oil is drained, put the plug back in and tighten (clockwise) make sure this plug is TIGHT.
Then find your oil filter they are in several different places depending on your vehicle and engine, they are located on either one side of the engine or in the front of the engine (belt area). Most filters are now small so get a small or adjustable filter wrench put it on filter (as close to top as possible) it also turns off counter clockwise after it is loose you can take wrench off and spin it off by hand. Have your drain pan under filter area to catch remaining oil. Make sure the old filter rubber seal comes off with filter if not make sure you reach up and pull it off then wipe filter housing clean this makes for a good seal for the new filter. Then fill new filter with some new oil and put some oil around the rubber seal on new filter and spin it clockwise onto filter housing. Make sure it’s TIGHT.
Raise your car again and take out jack stands and let car back down.
Raise hood and find oil fill, most will be in the valve cover of the engine or a tube with a cap that says “OIL” on it,remove the cap and add remaining oil to engine (should be around 4 & 1/2 quarts, you put aprox. 1/2 quart in filter). After all oil is put into the engine replace the oil cap and start engine, let it run for a couple of minutes while looking under vehicle to make sure you got everything tight and have no leaks. If your satisfied nothings leaking shut off engine and locate oil dipstick, pull it out then wipe it off clean and stick back into dipstick tube all the way in, then pull back out and make sure it’s close to the full mark.
If your oil checks o.k. you are almost done. Make sure you keep a log or put a sticker on windshield when next change is due. Then get an old empty milk jug or something like it and use a funnel and put your old oil in it, seal it tight and take it back to where you bought your oil and they will dispose of it for you.
This sounds like a lot of work but total time if you have never done it before should be less than a half hour. After you do it a few times it will take 10-15 minuets, and you will feel good knowing you actually done this yourself and that you saved money doing it.
