<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Jakarta, BNP2TKI (23/11) &#8211; Warga negara Malaysia kemungkinan akan bisa kembali mempekerjakan Penata Laksana Rumah Tangga (PLRT) asal Indonesia bulan Desember mentang. Isyarat ini disampaikan Menteri Sumber Daya Manusia Malaysia Datuk Dr S Subramaniam sebagaimana dilannsir harian Malaysia, The Star, Senin (23/11).</p>
<p>Menurut Subramaniam, pembicaraan antara Malaysia dan Indonesia sedang berlangsung untuk menyelesaikan beberapa hal. &#8220;Masih ada beberapa hal lagi yang perlu diselesaikan. Begitu ini selesai, para pembantu rumah tangga bisa datang lagi &#8221; ujarnya.</p>
<p>Sebagaimana diketahui, Pemerintah Indonesia telah menghentikan sementara pengiriman TKI ke Malaysia pada Juni 2009 lalu menyusul maraknya kasus kekerasan terhadap PLRT Indonesia di negeri jiran itu.</p>
<p>Ditandaskan Dr Subramaniam, diharapkan semua masalah akan selesai pada bulan Desember 2009. Menurut petinggi Malaysia itu, pemerintah Indonesia telah menyampaikan kesiapannya untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan tersebut secepat mungkin.</p>
<p>Saat ini ada diperkirakan terdapat sekitar 280 ribu PRT Indonesia yang bekerja sebagai Tenaga Kerja Indonesia (TKI) di Malaysia. (hp)</p>

One of your kid is dreaming that he is watching a line of pipe with very simple flow control loop with control valve (FC-Linear) on the upstream and flow transmitter on the downstream of the line. Your kid then open the valve manually to 50% and he is watching the flow gradually increase to 50% of max flow on the transmitter monitor. It&#8217;s gradually, it is not suddenly.</p>

<p>Above is very simple thing that every engineer knows about it. But the question then how if your kid is asking below question:<br />
1. The flowrate change gradually from zero increase to final constant value, it&#8217;s like mathematic function isn&#8217;t it? what is this called?<br />
2. When I opened the valve already I notice a few second, the transmitter was still showing zero flow. What is this called daddy?<br />
3. Is the differential equation working on this? What order is this?<br />
It&#8217;s just the way how the kid enlightening his daddy to never forget his GURU when he was taught in school and university to see how the God running the universe through sciences. Selamat Hari Guru.</p>
<p>Fenomena di atas adalah fenomena instrumentasi dan kontrol yang paling simple dijumpai di pekerjaan. Pertanyaan di atas semoga menggugah hati kecil bahwa di balik penampakan barang yang mungkin sudah busuk karatan di lapangan itu ada hubungan ilmu yang sudah diajarkan sejak SMA hingga kuliah seperti turunan matematika, fungsi step, fungsi eksponensial, dead time, persamaan orde sekian, dan mungkin masih banyak lagi kalau dibongkar elektronik dan mekanikalnya.</p>
<p>Sebuah control valve (FC-Linear) dibuka secara manual, fluida yang mengalir ketika ia dibuka memerlukan waktu untuk sampai di transmitter, waktu mati tanpa respon itu disebutlah sebagai dead time. Proses perubahan flowrate yang dibaca oleh transmitter dari 0 berlangsung secara timely gradual menuju nilai flow konstant (50% max flow) mengikuti suatu fungsi yang bersifat eksponensial. Kalau perubahan dari 0 menuju 50% max flow berlangsung tanpa selang waktu maka ia mengikuti fungsi step. Tetapi fungsi step murni tidak mungkin terjadi di dunia karena setiap kejadian di dunia memerlukan selang waktu meskipun 0,0000000000000000000001 detik sekalipun. That&#8217;s why hikmah kenapa Tuhan sering bersumpah atas nama waktu, dan ilmu fisika tak akan pernah lepas dari yang namanya waktu. Jadi fungsi step murni hanya ada dalam matematika SMA, tapi dalam dunia nyata fungsi step dapat digambarkan sebagai fungsi yang bersifat exponensial, termasuk fenomena perubahan flowrate yang dibaca oleh transmitter. Guru matematika SMA tentu sudah bercerita bilangan &#8216;e&#8217; itu berapa dan dari mana asalnya (anybody remember? I forgot already the story).</p>
<p>Perubahan dinamika proses yang mengikuti fungsi step bersifat exponensial merupakan ciri utama dinamika proses orde satu. Disebut orde satu karena ketika fungsi tersebut diubah ke bentuk lain dengan operator persamaan Laplace maka akan menjadi persamaan differensial orde satu. Menggambarkan turunan pertama dari flowrate yang dibaca oleh transmitter terhadap waktu akibat perubahan nilai flowrate yang dilewatkan control valve. Hubungan antara flowrate yang dilewatkan oleh control valve dengan flowrate yang dibaca oleh transmitter merupakan hubungan dinamika proses input dan output yang disebut sebagai fungsi transfer. Ketika dirumuskan secara matematika maka awalnya sebagai berikut:<br />
Ft-Fto = K(Fv &#8211; Fvo)(1 &#8211; e^(-t/T))<br />
Kalau Flow pada transmitter mula-mula (Fto) adalah 0, dan Flow pada valve mula-mula (Fvo) adalah 0 juga maka persamaannya menjadi:<br />
Ft = K.Fv.(1-e^(-t/T))<br />
Persamaan di atas adalah persamaan perubahan flowrate Ft mengikuti fungsi step exponensial untuk menggambarkan perubahan flowrate yang dibaca transmitter terhadap waktu t. Ketika waktu t = T maka persamaan akan menjadi:<br />
Ft = K.Fv. (0.632)<br />
Artinya adalah nilai 63.2% dari maksimal flowrate yang dibaca transmitter. Sehingga T didefinisikan sebagai waktu yang diperlukan oleh flow pada transmitter menuju nilai 63.2%. Nilai T yang disebut sebagai Time Constant ini hadir untuk mempermudah proses penghitungan &#8216;e&#8217; exponensial. Namun akhirnya menjadi sebuah Konstanta Waktu wajib untuk menuliskan persamaan orde satu.</p>
<p>Persamaan ini hanya akan mendapatkan Ft = K.Fv. (1) pada nilai konstant ketika t = tak hingga. Padahal dalam kenyataanya untuk menuju nilai final yang konstan tidak perlu t = tak hingga (ini adalah kelemahan matematika mentransformasi kejadian fisis). Pada saat nilai Ft sudah konstan maka:<br />
Ft = K.Fv<br />
Nilai K adalah faktor pengali flow input terhadap flow output. Flow output (Ft) adalah flow yang dibaca transmitter dan Flow input (Fv) adalah flow yang dilewatkan melalu control valve. Maka nilai finalnya adalah sama karena pada line yang sama sehingga untuk proses ini faktor pengali gain proses K = 1.<br />
Semua yang diuraikan di atas awalnya merupakan persamaan differensial orde satu:<br />
T(dFt/dt)+Ft = K.Fv</p>
<p>Ini seharusnya mudah dibayangkan karena input dan output proses adalah sama yaitu flow. Ketika transmitter di atas diganti dengan Pressure Transmitter atau Temperature Transmitter maka persoalan akan menjadi lebih ribet. Input proses tetap flow karena pada prinsipnya kerja kontrol valve adalah mengadjust aliran yang lewat. Seluruh control valve, meski dinamai sebagai PCV, LCV, TCV, dll prinsip kerjanya adalah meregulate aliran, that&#8217;s it. Nah pada line di atas apakah hubungan antara perubahan flow (input proses) dengan perubahan pressure (output proses)? juga dengan temperature (output proses)? Apakah juga linear? Kalau linear maka orde satu lah dia dan controllabilitinya jelas. Kalau tak linear maka orde dua ke-atas perlu lebih di dalami dan kontrolabilitinya menjadi semakin runyam.</p>
<p>Penentuan suatu loop control yaitu mana variable yang hendak dimanipulate atau diregulate dengan control valve untuk membawa proses variable menuju set-point yang diinginkan harus benar-benar menggunakan evaluasi controlability. Jika contoh model loop seperti di atas dipaksakan untuk mengontrol temperature fluida yang dilewatkan di line tersebut maka akan menjadi perntanyaan besar; apakah hubungan antara temperature dengan flow pada line yang sama tersebut? Percuma sekali ketika hubungannya tidak diketahui dan tidak bisa dipetakan digunakan untuk mengendalikan temperature.</p>
<p>Ketika controlability proses sudah bisa dipetakan pada orde satu dan dikuasai maka penerapan fungsi kontrol PID dan strategi tuningnya bisa terpetakan dengan baik.  Ilmu tuning kemudian harus berbasis kepada pemahaman dinamika proses.  Dengan memahami perilaku proses maka untuk mendapatkan controlled variable, engineering sense mengatakan berapa besar control valve akan terbuka, maka gain bisa diramalkan dan dimasukkan bukan trial and error. Ketika kemudian terjadi offset maka berapa kali per menit komponen integral mere-calculate aksi gain tsb, dlsb. Tuning PID semoga menjadi novel pada blog ini pada edisi berikutnya.</p>

As an experienced student of NIT Trichy, I believe the credibility of the above statement depends on how you &#8220;judge&#8221; the NITs. If your judgement is purely based on placements and packages, then I can assure with no doubt that NIT Trichy is not just the best among all NITs but also better than a few IITs. However, if you also take into account student facilities, mess food, internet access and faculty profiles, then I myself doubt it.</p>
<p><strong>2. Students have a much greater role to play here than any other college.</strong><br />
Its true, students of NIT Trichy are not just mere college-going children, but they are involved in extra and co-curricular works, projects and clubs of far greater significance. While the computing clubs like Delta Force are the sole incharge of the college website &#38; LAN, the enterpreneurship club ECELL have made their presence felt across the globe with their flagship annual event Ventura. Besides these, there are leisure clubs like Karate, Photography, Movie Making, Dance Troupe, Music Troupe, etc. Other technical clubs include GLUG-T (Linux &#38; FOSS) and Sun Club (JAVA &#38; Open Source Apps).</p>
<p><strong>3. An abundant number of events for the students to keep them busy for the entire year.</strong><br />
NIT Trichy can boast of a huge number of quality student events that take place annually. It ranges widely from the fresher&#8217;s parties organized by the student clubs to various kinds of campus games and contests, along with the academic classes on java, linux, matlab, c++, web,etc by the technical clubs. Moreover, the college&#8217;s main events like Pragyan, Festember and NITT Fest are entirely managed by the students with literally no intervention from the authorities.<br />

4. The prestigious Bachelor of Survival degree (B.Surv).</strong><br />
Every student of NIT Trichy not only gets a B.Tech degree but also a B.Surv degree (though he doesn&#8217;t get a certificate for that). By survival in NIT Trichy, I mean surviving the extremities the authorities push the students into. With exams next morning and power being cut-off from your hostels, with horrible quality of mess food, with drinking water problems and just 10 kbps internet access, if you&#8217;re still able to complete your B.Tech in 4 years, then you truly are worthy of a B.Surv.<br />

5. NIT Trichy is a haven for Computer Science and VLSI students.</strong><br />
As far as VLSI is concerned, NIT Trichy is considered as the &#8220;best&#8221; in the country. The faculty of the ECE Department are especially dedicated towards VLSI and have a number of modern laboratories for that purpose. OCTAGON, the largest computing centre is full of high-end computers and its 24&#215;7 availability along with a huge library and elibrary has turned it into a driving factor for the students to get interested in computing.</p>
<p><strong>6. Quality food is abundant, but be ready to empty your pockets.</strong><br />
Forget the mess for one day and you have a number of places as alternatives. I&#8217;ve never seen so many food locations in any institute of the country. Inside the campus you have a bakery, a restaurant, an icecream parlour, another bakery-cum-restaurant-cum-icecream parlour, a milk shake shop, a juice corner, 2 nescafes, 1 bru and 1 lipton stalls. Just outside the campus you have 3 dhabas, a proper restaurant and a number of small food stalls.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Researchers in MIT’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering believe they have pinpointed a pathway by which arsenic may be contaminating the drinking water in Bangladesh, a phenomenon that has puzzled scientists, world health agencies and the Bangladeshi government for nearly 30 years. The research suggests that human alteration to the landscape, the construction of villages with ponds, and the adoption of irrigated agriculture are responsible for the current pattern of arsenic concentration underground. The findings also indicate that drinking-water wells drilled to a greater depth would likely provide clean water.</p>
<p>Bangladesh is the seventh most populous country in the world, and tens of millions of its citizens have been exposed to arsenic in their water over the past several decades. As many as 3,000 Bangladeshis die from arsenic-induced cancer each year and today approximately 2 million people in the country live with arsenic poisoning, which manifests as skin lesions and neurological disorders, and causes cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases and cancer. Allan H. Smith a professor of epidemiology at the University of California, Berkeley, calls it “the largest mass poisoning of a population in history.”</p>
<p>This pervasive incidence of arsenic poisoning and its link to drinking water were first identified in the early 1980s. This was not long after the population began switching from surface water sources like rivers to groundwater from tube wells — part of a national effort to decrease the incidence of bacterial illnesses caused by contaminated drinking water. But most of the tube wells have been drilled to less than 100 feet, where they draw water directly from the arsenic-contaminated shallow aquifer. Scientists have struggled to understand how the arsenic, which is naturally occurring in the underground sediment of the Ganges Delta, is getting into the groundwater.</p>
<p>By 2002, a research team led by Charles Harvey, the Doherty Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT, had determined that microbial metabolism of organic carbon was mobilizing the arsenic off the soils and sediments, and that crop irrigation was almost certainly playing a role in the process. But the exact sources of the contaminated water have remained elusive, until now.</p>
<p>In a paper appearing online in <em>Nature Geoscience</em> Nov. 15, Harvey, former graduate students Rebecca Neumann and Khandaker Ashfaque and co-authors explain that ponds are the source of the organic carbon that presently mobilizes the arsenic in their 6-square-mile test site. The carbon settles to the bottom of the ponds, then seeps underground where microbes metabolize it. This creates the chemical conditions that cause arsenic to dissolve off the sediments and soils and into the groundwater.</p>
<p>“Our research shows that water from the ponds carries degradable organic carbon into the shallow aquifer. Groundwater flow, drawn by irrigation pumping, transports that pond water to the depth where dissolved arsenic concentrations are greatest and where it is then pumped up into the irrigation and drinking wells,” says Harvey, whose research was funded by the National Science Foundation and the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology. “The other interesting thing we found in our test area is that the rice fields are a sink of arsenic — more arsenic goes in with the irrigation water than comes out in the groundwater.”</p>
<p>Scott Fendorf, a professor at Stanford University who studies arsenic content in soils and sediments along the Mekong River in Cambodia, says Harvey’s previous research, published in 2002, “transformed the scientific community’s outlook on the problem.” The current work, he adds, has two big ramifications: “It shows that human modifications are impacting the arsenic content in the groundwater; and that while the rice cropping system appears to be buffering the arsenic, the ponds excavated to provide fill to build up the villages are having a negative impact on the release of arsenic.”</p>
<p>Ashfaque and Neumann did extensive fieldwork in Bangladesh over a seven-year period, studying the hydrologic behavior and chemical nature of rice fields and ponds and developing an understanding of the surface and underground water flow patterns and creating a 3-D model to track rice field and pond water as it traveled into and through the subsurface.</p>
<p>“When we compared the chemical signatures of the different water sources in our study area to the signatures of the aquifer water, we saw that water with high arsenic content originates from the human-built ponds, and water with lower arsenic content originates from the rice fields,” says Neumann. “It’s likely that these same processes are occurring at other sites, and it suggests that the problem could be alleviated by digging deeper drinking water wells below the influence of the ponds or by locating shallow drinking wells under rice fields.” The researchers suggest that irrigation wells remain at the shallow level.</p>
<p>Harvey is making plans for a multi-year study that would provide deep wells— deeper than 450 feet — for two villages in Bangladesh whose inhabitants suffer from arsenic poisoning. There they would combine continual testing of the well water and hydrogeological modeling of the groundwater system with a study of how the clean water effects the villagers’ health, placing special emphasis on the neurological development of children.</p>
<p>“There are all sorts of studies to show how arsenic hurts people. We’re trying to turn it around and show how removal of the arsenic will help them,” says Harvey.</p>
