Tell me a little bit about yourself/the history of your store.

I began my shoppe, Engelfelt Designs, in 2008 on Etsy, after I became intrigued with the concept of selling my products in this “new” marketplace.  Engelfelt is named after my Danish grandmother, who did the most exquisite needlework.  My mother continued that tradition, as well as sewing, knitting, and crocheting  all of our clothes for us and for our dolls, when we were children.

Tell me what makes your store UNIQUE from all the other stores that sell a product similar to yours.

Being unique and having the ability to create new designs is very important to me.  That is why I used handspun yarns for my knit and crocheted items.  Rarely are two scarves or cowls alike,  since I can choose from the incredible range of textures and colors that natural handspun fibers have to offer.  My felted soaps are like miniature water colors.  I am not into mass production, so these little soaps give me the canvas to create new little pieces of art inspired by my surroundings.   Right now, for example, my cherry tree is in bloom, and I am in the midst of recreating that vision of loveliness in several forms on my soaps.

It is knit from a special fiber made by an organization in South Africa that supports and trains artisans from the Xhosa peoples.

Do you do custom orders, designs, etc. If you do, what kinds of services do you offer for custom orders, what are your policies regarding custom orders?

I love to do custom orders, and thus far I have had very positive experiences with my faithful customers. It is fun for me to work with them to make something unique for a special gift or occasion.  On custom orders, I typically ask for a 50% deposit before I create the item,  and then we can go back and forth to tweak it to their specifications.
