I’ve been to a hell of a lot of concerts but rarely am I in awe and exhausted after one, and Lady Gaga did it for me this past Monday at the Nokia Theatre in LA. I mean, the show before the show was the people watching in the lobby. The eclectic group of fans present is exactly what Gaga’s music represents- art,fashion,sexuality,music. The show opened with a spectacular special effect that showed a large version of Gaga floating through air and eventually starting with “Dancing in the Dark”. As the set continued with “Just Dance” and “Love Game”, you knew she had put a lot of thought into the production of each single performance…there were graphics, visual effects, costumes, choreography, and live singing…YES, live singing. She went through songs such as “Alejandro”, “Monster”, “Teeth”, from her new 8 song disc Monster. She sang songs from her debut album The Fame, like “Beautiful, Dirty,Rich,” “Poker Face”, and what she called the song for her gay boys “Boys, Boys, Boys”. Of course, she sang one of the biggest hits “Paparazzi” towards the end and came back for encore to end with “Bad Romance”, which I believe time will convert this song into a true classic in Pop music. Some may call her weird, including myself…but I can assure you the best true artists have always been seen as weird. If this is what she has shown to us so early in her career, can you imagine what comes next? Los numeros no mienten y los resultados de ventas de discos de la semana dicen que “She Wolf” de Shakira fue una bomba total, al solo llegar al #15 del Billboard con 89,000 ventas. En el 2005 su “Fijacion Oral Vol.1″ debuto en #4 y su “Oral Fixation Vol.2″ en el #5…este en verdad son malas noticias para la colombiana. Esperemos que su single “Give It Up To Me” siga fuerte y ayude las ventas. La sorpresa fue Susan Boyle que tuvo las ventas mas altas de debut en el 2009 con 700,000 ventas y facil tomo el #1. Adam Lambert llego al #3 (189,000), Rihanna #4 (181,000), y Lady Gaga tomo dos lugares, #5 (172,000)  por su 8 song new cd “The Fame Monster” y #6 (151,000) por el reissue de “The Fame”. Aunque Shakira fracaso (en ventas, porque criticamente es uno de los mejores discos que salieron), otro la tuvo peor. El American Idol winner Kris Allen solo vendio 80,000 en su debut hace dos semanas y esta semana 33,000 poniendolo en el #35…si, este fue el ganador, creo que a Adam no le importa mucho haber perdido.

El single “Fresh Out The Oven” salio hace algunas semanas y JLo declaro que no era el primer sencillo, dijo que el single ni seria parte de su nuevo disco “Love?”, que saldra en principios del 2010. Lo raro es, para un sencillo que no es sencillo, se produjo video y se invito la participacion del hitmaker del momento Pitbull….oh, tambien todo esto se dijo DESPUES que saliera la cancion al radio y se criticada por ser a very weak and average song…por esto JLo cambio de parecer y mejor escojio “Louboutins” como el primer sencillo. Aqui esta el video para el sencillo no oficial de JLo que esta lleno de calentura, lo malo que la cancion no tiene nada de “hot”…not even “warm”.

The expectations were high for the American Music Awards because of their long list of high profile performers and the show did not disapoint. Janet Jackson abrio el show con su medley de hits pero que traia puesto? Y la nueva cancion, como que no. Shakira trajo el drill team and did an awesome show with “Give It Up to Me” and those beats are off the hook thanks to Timbaland, scheduled to perform with her was Lil Wayne who ended up not showing up but Shakira still had one of the best performances of the night, that choreography and the beats make that song very very catchy. Black Eyed Peas did a medley of “Meet Me Halfway” and “Boom Boom Pow” and they have the energy to pump up the crowd and turn it up to a higher level. Lady Gaga’s was half good, I love “Bad Romance” but WTF with the outfits and skull masks, I did like the piano part with “Speechless” , burning piano and breaking glass bottles, it must be a break-up song. What about Rihanna? She rocked it out, it started a bit weak with the first song “Wait Your Turn” but once she started with “Hard” she brought it all, also one of my favorites. Closing the night, surprisingly Adam Lambert, who went over the top and put his sexuality all in the face of America, which will probably hurt him, but I loved it…he pushed the envelope just the right way to demonstrate he is a true creative artist but also has the vocals to back it all up. What else, what else…oh, the ass dropped heard around the world…well, only in the east coast because it was edited in the west coast, but Ms. J-Lo fell on her ass while trying be hard hip hop and dance like a fly girl, ummm Jenny, you’re 40. If the song was really good, we probably would’ve looked passed the performance but no, the song is not good. Oh well, there’s always her movie career…oh, sorry…well, there’s always Marc Anthony’s singing, he’s still good. Others that performed were Jay Z/Alicia Keys (singing about NY in LA, come on, even that idiot Arod got booed for his intro), Kelly Clarkson (love love that song, she kept it nice & simple, Carrie Underwood (cool song but WTF with the outfit), Alicia Keys (yes, she sang again and it was a her new single which is not that good), and some other people which were pretty forgetable. Ok…last thing so Kris Allen (remember, this year’s American Idol winner) was there presenting and probably seeting in the audience and “loser” Adam Lambert was the talk of the night…AND Kris’ cd came out last week, you didn’t know? Yea, I don’t think anyone else did. Any who…On my way to Target, CD releases were moved up to today: SHAKIRA, RIHANNA, ADAM LAMBERT, LADY GAGA, and others.

I’m not feeling the song but then again that’s what I first said about “Sweat Dreams” and I’m loving that now. Also, you can tell Beyonce’s video was filmed in a set in front of  a green screen but it works…the effects are hella cool and the Lady Gaga appearance is classic…perfect union of the top two ladies in music right now (sorry Shakira, you’ve dropped to third for now). The reality is that it is rare to find a very good song shared by two of the hottest singers, remember the failure duets of Shakira & Beyonce, Mariah & Whitney, Madonna & Ricky Martin. Check out the insanity that I love, of “Video Phone”. 

Este lunes y martes salen varios discos muy esperados por artistas como Shakira “She Wolf”, Rihanna “Rated R”, Adam Lambert “For Your Entertainment” y reissues de Lady Gaga “The Fame Monster” y Beyonce “I Am..Sasha Fierce Deluxe“, como greatest hits de Britney Spears “The Singles” y Jay Z “Greatest Hits”…on top of this en las ultimas semanas han salido discos nuevos de Janet Jackson, Leona Lewis, Carrie Underwood, Whitney Houston. Esta es muy buena temporada para los fans de musica pero va hacer dificil para la venta de discos ya que muchos tendran que escojer su favorito para comprar ahora y esperar despues para comprar los demas. Tambien sera interesante ver quien se lleva el #1 la proxima semana, aunque muchas veces eso no significa mucho ya que lo importante es cuanto tiempo dura el disco en los charts.

Los American Music Awards siempre han tenido grandes artistas de la musica y es uno de los top shows de musica junto con los GRAMMYs y los MTV Awards…pero este año, debe de ser uno de los mejores shows de su historia. La lista de artistas cantando es top of the top y empiesa con Janet Jackson abriendo el show con una actuacio de 8 minutos que incluida varios de sus hits. La noche tendra actuaciones de Shakira, Lil Wayne, Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Whitney Houston, Eminem, Jay Z, Alicia Keys, Green Day, Adam Lambert, Daughtry, Black Eyed Peas, y Rihanna. Gran coincidencia es que varios de estos tienen discos saliendo este lunes y martes a la venta y promocionar se dijo. Let’s see who steals the show and has the best performance. Como me perdi esta? Back en 2000, Enrique Iglesias grabo un video para la cancion ”Sad Eyes” de su primer disco en ingles y fue dirigido por el genial David LaChapelle. La razon que nunca lo vimos fue que MTV lo censuro, lo raro es que nunca se dijo nada de esta censura en el 2000 y el video no aparecio en ningun otro canal ni en ningun otro pais. Nueve años despues el video is leaked online y damn is it HOT. There are no words, it is very very hot. Enrique is shirtless, nude, masturbating, and having hot sex. Just watch it, you’ll enjoy it…I sure did.

Ahora salio el video de “Give It Up To Me”, el segundo US single para Shakira is su She Wolf. I like the song and it’s catchy and has great beats…the video is somewhat good, with the choreography being the best thing of the video. Shakira looks like she’s trying to hard to be hip hop and it’s just not her style. I doubt this song will have the amount of success “Hips Don’t Lie” had, which was a perfect balance of Wycleaf’s hip hop with Shakira’s pop. We’ll have to wait and see if choosing this as the second US single will help the album when it is released next week. Give It Up To Me

No es facil vender 100 millones de discos, pero Ms. Janet Jackson has done just that with 10 studio albums and 6 of those reaching #1 on the charts. In 1995, Janet released “Design of A Decade” which had hits up to that year. On November 17 saldra “Number Ones” a two-disc album that will have all the songs from Janet’s career that have reached #1 in different charts in different parts of the world. En total seran 33 canciones desde su primer #1 album “Control” hasta el mas reciente #1 album “Discipline”. Tambien incluye una nueva cancion titulada “Make Me” que fue lanzada independiente de cualquier record label, ya que Janet no planea asociarse con ningun label company y su proximo disco de nuevo material sera lanzado como independent record. Para promocionar el disco, Janet tendra un ABC special el 18 de noviembre y tambien tendra una presentacion en los American Music Awards el 22 de noviembre.  My favorite? How can I choose? A true Janet fan doesn’t have ONE favorite…but here are some great Janet videos and the new single “Make Me”.

OSTEGUNEAN IRTENGO GARA???

Another great performance del single “Did It Again” de Shakira en los MTV Europe Awards en Berlin el dia de ayer.

Despues del tremendo exito con su ultimo disco “La Revolucion”, Wisin y Yandel lanzaran ahora “La Revolucion” Rerelease y contiene nuevas versiones y remixes de sus canciones. Para promover el disco, lanzaron el single “Imaginate” con la colaboracion del rapero y productor T-Pain. El video esta muy bien hecho y es como una mini-pelicula que incluye a Wilmer Valderrama, Paula Garces, y Amaury Nolasco pero la cancion es solo regular y igual que con la cancion con 50 Cent, no ayuda mucho que esta un hitmaker como T-Pain en la cancion. Esto no significa que no sera hit, ya que todo lo que tocan estos boricuas es exito pero si demuestra que el duo hacen mejor musica solos que con mala compania. Check out the video.

Estos artistas necesitan lo mas exposure posible, especialmente because we as latinos need further representation of our entertainment, arts, and culture. Empesamos con Weezer…larga treyectoria y clever, creative, original videos with each song. Their newest single is “(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To” is catchy and probably only Weezer can pull this off and still be rockers. Sus hits incluyen “Hash Pipe”, “Beverly Hills”, “The Sweater Song”, “Pork & Beans”, “Say It Ain’t So”, “Island In The Sun”, “Buddy Holly”, and my very very favorite “Perfect Situation”. Y que bien hecho…NOW this is what I call a good video. Shakira makes up for her last video with this one, desde que mire her performance on Dancing With The Stars I knew this song had the potential for  a good video and she delivered. The bedroom scenes are just awesome, they’re sexy and animalistic and some times sweet and affectionate and some times fun and playful..super creativo. I still don’t understand why this song was launched around the world as the 2nd single but in the U.S. we get “Give It Up To Me” as the 2nd single, which is a great song but how about some consistency with the singles? I guess, Epic Records believes Lil Wayne’s appearance on the song will give the album a much needed boost, well Lil Wayne didn’t help Kat De Luna’s or Enrique Iglesias’ singles when they came out. It should have been held and released later as a third single. Back to the topic on hand, check out the video for “Did It Again/Lo Hecho Esta Hecho”…definately one of the most creative videos of the year.

Just came back from watching “This Is It”, the limited release concert documentary of the late Michael Jackson’s preparation for the 50 planned London concerts.

At the beginning, it was a bit awkward and sad to watch.  As you see clips of his rehearsals, he looked so frail.  But even through his poor health and increasing age, his talent as an entertainer, pioneer and perfectionist really shown through.  Just watching the stage preparation and rehearsal footage was epic; his concert seemed like it would really live up to the bill as the greatest concerts of all time. RIP MJ~

I watched the credits and noticed that Nick Bass was one of the backup dancers (MJ picked 10 dancers from thousands of auditionees) for the This Is It concerts.  If I remember correctly, he helped choreograph Super Junior’s “Sorry Sorry” and a couple of other SM tunes.  Bit random but a small link to kpop XD

The other night, I went past a CD shop (called CHEAPY no less) which was showing an old concert of MJ on a screen. People, of all nationalities and ages, walking past would just literally stop and watch. In the middle of the road.  His legend will never die.

Park Bom – “You & I”
First solo single from the lead vocalist of 2NE1.  I’ve followed her for quite a while, since her Anycall days and featurings on Big Bang’s first couple of singles.  “You & I” is a very solid single. The Teddy produced track however reminds me of Taeyang’s “Where U At”.  No bad thing though.

The MV is really sweet and colourful, which I didn’t expect.  Bommie seems to only have one expression… I still love her though ! ^_^

Big Bang – Koe Wo Kikasete (3rd Japanese Single)
omfg I LOVE this song. Now i’m a huge YG/BB/2NE1 fan so I may come across slightly bias, but woaaaah this song is by far their best Japanese release.  A really smooth sound, with an emphasis on TY. Non of that auto-tune/electro crap which they’ve been putting out for most of their Japanese releases.

Seo In Gook – 1st EP
This dude is the winner of Mnet’s Superstar K.  I haven’t followed the show at all.  The EP has only 3 songs, but all have a great rnb vibe.  His voice is not particularly special, I could name a dozen male korean artists who I would rather listen to singing these tracks. Nonetheless, its a very good debut, and I’ll look out for him in the future.

There’s loads of other new/recent releases that should be checked out if you have similar taste of music to me.. i just don’t have enough time to review them .. got back from work at 11pm tonight.. *sigh* >_<
