I have been an Ole Miss fan as long as I can remember. I grew up less than one mile from the heart of campus and as hard as I tried to escape, I am glad that I decided to be a Rebel. In this time, I have had the opportunity to watch our football team win games we should have lost and lose games that should not have even been close. All this to set the stage for Saturday’s showdown with #8 LSU. There is no team out there that I have more animosity towards than LSU.

When in college, I travelled to Baton Rouge twice to watch the rivalry. In 1997 as a freshman and in the marching band, we won 36-21 in a day game. I will never forget the near-constant rain of bottles and cups that were thrown at the band throughout the game. That’s classy. In 1999, Jen and I drove down for a night game (in the rain) and we put it to them 42-23. With those 2 results, you might think that we have had the upper hand in the series, but 02-07 found us losing 6 in a row. If you look back on the series tally (since I was old enough to go to games), LSU has held the edge 15-9. All this to say, there is a lot of bad blood between these two schools.

Enter Saturday, Nov 21. The CBS SEC game of the week. The early game was dominated by Ole Miss with a couple of questionable calls that took the rebels out of the endzone twice, having to settle for a field goal and a LSU int for a TD. The defense held strong and we went in at the half down only 17-15.

The 3rd quarter was a field position struggle and the real excitement came in the 4th quarter. Dexter McCluster has been the hero of the second half of the season and completed his first pass ever for a TD with 13 minutes left to go putting us up 17-22. A clock-eating drive gave us a field goal to go up 17-25. Up by a TD with 2-pt conversion with 3:42 to go. What happened next is legendary. A methodical drive by LSU gave them a TD with 1:17 left pulled them to within 2. After 2 tries at the conversion, the rebels somehow managed to hold onto a 2 point lead.

Everyone knew the on-sides kick was coming and LSU ran it to perfection. At this point, I had indigestion. I could just see Ole Miss losing this to a last-second field goal. I could barely watch. The mental vaccuum that is the offensive minds in LSU somehow botched clock management and the tigers ended up on the Ole Miss 6yd line with the game clock expired. For once, things went our way. I waited for 10 minutes (well after the game coverage went off the air) to allow myself to breathe and enjoy the tally mark in the win column. At 8-3 with the Egg bowl left to play, the Rebels are finding a way to redeem what was supposed to be a great season. Will await bowl predictions soon.

The night only got more interesting as we went to a Mannheim Steamroller concert. Yes, the uber-popular Christmas music phenomenon tours and has been doing so for some time. Needless to say, it was a Laser Drum, Laser Light, Laser violin extravaganza. I lost it when the violin player pulled a spin move. It was a good day.

Next: Highlights!

The “King of Pop” seems to be close in his evening entertainment news magazine coverage with …. penis popping Levi Johnston. Oh my is that fair? Did he just pose for multiple issues of Playgirl? Why yes I think he did.

And shame on the pecan people or whoever they are who associate Levi with “protection”. Dude, let’s catch a break. Stop talking about him. It isn’t like he’s a good roll model or anything. Or maybe that’s it, someone wants his life to teach our kids it’s ok to have sex outside of marriage or before you can care for a baby and after that it’s ok to insult and belittle our elders and it’s ok to be a father under 20 and pose for Playgirl then sue for joint custody of your child who you never see because you’re always in Hollywood selling your soul.

Taylor Lautner, maybe a werewolf in the most popular vampire movie of the season but he is definitely the breakout star.  His Hollywood hunk good looks  that has been the biggest driving force eclipsing even the popular characters of the series Bella and Edward.

He plays Jacob Black,  who is in love with Bella, but is in the tribe of werewolves .  This makes for the compelling push and pull between the enmity that exist between the vampires and werewolves.

Interestingly enough, it has become a marketeer’s dream for the film, since Lautner’s fan base has grown and pitted him against the popular Robert Pattinson.  This has made the feverish hunger for the opening of the movie “The Twilight Saga New Moon“  even more epic.

Lautner’s star is on the rise and, by all indications, is going to surpass Pattinson who has not seemed as accessible to the fans.

How do we look?

Ok, watching Johnston on all the tabloid evening shows is making me feel pregnant… I want to puke. He has no brain, no morals, no ability to be a father and he’s a rumormonger. My respect for Entertainment Tonight and The Insider is at an all time low. They take his opinions seriously and his threats against Mrs. Palin as valid and truthful but won’t disclose what they are. How are we to judge his veracity if all he does is pose and pose and pose and pose and then hang out with Jon Gosselin, world’s best dad?

The vomit meter is high.

While being interviewed on Sirius radio Sharon Osbourne took a cheap shot at Susan Boyle. She said that she was a “hairy a-hole.” The men interviewing her found this statement hilarious, but why do women insult other women. This was completely unprovoked.  Why aren’t men asked questions about how other men look. Why do so many women feel the need to lash out at other women. Osbourne has since apologized via Facebook.  Osbourne said “Susan Boyle is a lovely gracious woman and I took advantage of that by poking fun at her. I would never want to be responsible for hurting Susan and I must apologize for getting a cheap laugh at her expense.”  It was just a very unclassy move from a woman who claims to have some.

All I know about Glenn Beck is that he is on Fox News and called Obama a racist. I don’t know the context, so have no argument one way or the other. I watched a rant that he produced in regard to the Fort Hood shootings. Regardless of what you think of the guy, I recommend watching this. He’s a little dramatic, but his points are well made. It’s approx 16 minutes long and at times, the dubbing is a little off. Comments?

Wanda Sykes

There is a new kid on the Late Night Show circuit and she has turn it upside down and put life into the genre.  I wish it was not only on on Saturday nights. It is the Wanda Sykes Show.

Yes, there is an Open Bar on the set.  Yes there is a super size Vanna White type Drag Queen assistant named Portia.  Yes, she has  prolific sidekick, Keith Robinson.  However, it is the no holds bar comedic style that is signature Wanda that makes this show work and makes it so fresh. It is also a very liberal  oasis on a network called Fox.

Sykes offers a catharsis of sorts for a nation wearied by the barrage of news from economic turmoil to foreign policy debates.  Her humor is biting and intelligent.  I found myself just laughing and enjoying the Wanda Sykes ride .  I mean I have not enjoyed a late night show like this one for a long time.

We need her voice and I hope she is around for a long time.

In ‘New Moon,’ Rob plays vampire Edward Cullen, who is forced to make a heartbreaking choice regarding his human love, played by Kristen Stewart, in order to try to protect her.

In real life, Rob says that he is afraid of commitment similar to Edward. He also opens up about his extreme degree of fame, and whether in his opinion, he lives up to the fans’ perception of him.

 The Trailer for Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I get Married Too?” premiered on Entertainment Tonight last night in the US. The film which is a sequel to 2007’s No.1 Box Office Hit “Why Did I Get Married?”  comes out in April 2010. 

From what I’ve heard Janet’s character takes the center role for this sequel, the sad thing is Janet was filming this, when her brother Michael Jackson died in June , so I’m sure this will be an emotionally charged performance and from the trailer I’m already reeling to see more.

“It taught me so much,” she says of being assaulted by her ex-boyfriend and the aftermath that followed. “I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears. That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day. It was like, What, there are helicopters circling my house? There are 100 people in my cul-de-sac? What do you mean, I can’t go back home?”

Making the media circus even worse was the fact that photos of her badly bruised face circulated on the Internet.

“That is not a photo you would show to anybody,” she says. “I felt completely taken advantage of. I felt like people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, and it’s my life. I was disappointed, especially when I found out the photo was [supposedly leaked by] two women.”
