As soon as your gut is full to the point of bursting, and your brain has reached sleepy mode, Thanks

As soon as your gut is full to the point of bursting, and your brain has reached sleepy mode, Thanksgiving law dictates you watch either lots of football or some sort of television program. With today being that most glorious of eating days, why not sit down with one of America’s most beloved sitcom families: The Cosbys.

With the Thursday of Thanks upon them, Clair is running mad trying to finish her biggest dinner ever, Denise has invited her husband Martin’s ex wife for dinner, Vanessa has a bug up her butt for being placed at the kiddie table, and Cliff is constantly being sent out into the pouring rain to gather the few remaining food items.

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea why Cliff puts up with that constant ordering around. Maybe it’s because she’s hot. Maybe it’s because the script demands it. Either way, someone else should’ve gone to the store instead. A man’s home is his castle, so send the pesants! Happy Turkeyday everyone!

Fifty years ago, Jay Ward's animated moose and squirrel duo, “Rocky & Bullwinkle,” debuted on ABC, forever changing the way the world looked at animated television.

His daughter, Tiffany Ward, continues her father’s legacy as executive producer of the feature films “The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle, “Dudley Do-Right” and “George of the Jungle,” and Cartoon Network’s (sister channel to CNN) new “George of the Jungle” animated TV series.

“My dad was a true eccentric,” Ward said. “His studio was a wonderland for me. It had a soda fountain, ice cream sundaes, a snow cone machine, a popcorn maker and candy bars everywhere.”

Tiffany Ward grew up in Berkeley, California, and didn’t move to Hollywood until 1959 at age 13 when her dad set up his television studio.

“Dad was always doing fun things,” Ward said, recalling a 1961 Sunset Boulevard block party her father hosted to promote “The Bullwinkle Show.” The show was originally named “Rocky and his Friends,” but was renamed “The Bullwinkle Show” when the program went from ABC to NBC.

So, I know this month’s Cosmo Says is fashionably late (blame it on a premature reaction to Tryptophan), but it’s here now. And you should be happy because not only was the December issue chock full of goodies, but now you have something to distract you while your little cousins run around your house screaming and you attempt to digest that 3lbs of stuffing you just inhaled.

There was an equally awesome/puzzling interview with Fergie (she looks great, poses in yoga moves and has dachshunds). The gift guide contained about 70% of my Christmas list (srsly, check out the Smashbox brushes on p. 100). There were tons of adorable mini skirts, and a ridiculous article where two guys keep diaries for 10 days about everything that goes through their minds. Spoiler alert: These guys think about sex a lot. These guys also happen to write exactly like Cosmo staffers. Hmm…

The crown jewel of the entire issue, though, had to be “Hidden Secrets His Hug Reveals.” Apparently, a hug can mean more than “not just a handshake, not quite a kiss.” Enjoy what Cosmo has to say about:

The Sneak Attack

Cosmo says: If he encircles you from behind, he’s totes “blanketing your body” with his love. Unless he does it all the time—then he’s too much of a pansy to hug you from the front.

Kari says: He better have highly recognizable cologne, because if an unknown dude suddenly wraps his arms around my chest, he’s getting a sample of that self-defense course my sorority held. Other than that, IDK about this “sense of oneness” that you’re going on about, Cosmo. I normally equate those three little words with meaningful eye contact and slow dancing non-ironically to “Forever young”…

The Rub

Cosmo Says: “You can’t see your back,” so rubbing it means he wants to nurture and protect you. Also, rubbing is sexual! So don’t be alarmed if he tries to get frisky. Or, he’s just doing it because he’s sad, can’t verbalize it, and wants you to rub his back (Awww).

Kari Says: Actually, I can see my back, thanks to strategically placed mirrors I use to straighten this one crazy piece of hair at the back of my head… Anyways, whenever I get a back rub, it’s usually because I explicitly asked for it, but my second assumption would definitely be horniness. And I’m not sure how to differentiate between the varieties of back rubbing (counterclockwise if he’s horny? Above the 5th vertebrae if he’s nurturing), but for future reference, I’ll try to make sure he doesn’t look sad while he’s doing it.

The Pat

Cosmo Says: A) he’s not into you B) he’s mad at you or C) he’s encouraging you. Or maybe D) he just isn’t into PDA or E) he’s on his iPhone.

Kari Says: Thanks, Cosmo for narrowing that one down. If I was left to my own devices I probably would have thought for days about what his “pat” meant. In all seriousness though, the only semblance of rationality I can take away from this analysis is that if you don’t know him that well, pat = bad. If he’s your 5 star chick (or whatever the male equivalent of that is) pat = neutral…or ADD.

The Waist Wrap

Cosmo Says: No surprise here! Homeboy wants to knock boots. Pronto. Oh, and if he touches his forehead to yours, he wants to “merge his thoughts with yours.” Keeper!

Kari Says: If a guy casually hugs you around the waist (as most men do, considering they’re probably taller than you), count to ten before you whip out the condoms. If there is any hip gyration involved in the hug, then yes, Cosmo, you are right on track.

Alright ladies, what’s your fave hugging style? Do you think that guys go home after Beat the Clock and intently discuss their elbow placement during your embrace? Yea, me neither…

80 > 22+22+22+22+22 -Essential WoW PvP Math We decided that for our weekly instance group run las

80 > 22+22+22+22+22

-Essential WoW PvP Math

We decided that for our weekly instance group run last week we would leave the Barrens and its colorful chat channel behind and venture into the dangerous world and perhaps experience the PvP side of our RP-PvP server, Lightninghoof.

I not really played on a PvP server in WoW before, so the whole situation was not clear to me when we rolled up on Lightninghoof. I expected to be flagged PvP at all times. But that turned out not to be the case. While you can flag yourself PvP at any time, the zone you are in determines what else flags you PvP.

For each player, there are three flavors of zones.

There is what is considered the home territory of your faction. This is sort of like the PvE servers, in that you only get flagged if you actually attack a player of the other faction. however, players of the other faction are always flagged PvP when they enter your home territory. So they other side cannot come in and stomp noobs but are exposed themselves.

Then there is contested territory, which is most of the world I gather. When in contested territory, everybody is flagged for PvP.

Then there is enemy territory, which is the other factions home territory. There you are flagged PvP but the other side is not, so you cannot go stomp their noobs but they can choose to come get you whenever they please.

We were off to do the Deadmines, and it turns out that Westfall is enemy territory for the Horde. So we would be flagged for PvP the whole time, but couldn’t go a-ganking unless somebody obliged us by flagging themselves. Of course, if a high level came along, we would be in trouble. The equation at the top of the post also applies to level 50 and above in the ability to slaughter a group in the low 20s.

As part of the plan to get ourselves into Westfall with the minimum of deaths, Azawak and Hurmoo both went into the druid cat form and used prowl to sneak into the vicinity of the Deadmines summoning stone. We flew into Stranglethorn Vale first, then swam around to the shores of Westfall.

Summoning Stone Under Observation

As the hour approached, we started assembling the team for the night:

22 Undead Mage – Bigbutt (Bungholio)
22 Tauren Druid – Hurmoo (Vikund)
22 Tauren Druid – Azawak (Skronk)
22 Orc Shaman – Earlthebat (Earlthecat)
22 Blood Elf Paladin – Enaldie (Ula)
80 Tauren Druid – Fayli (Gaff)

Gaff came over from New Eden to give us some covering fire if we needed it getting to the instance. And it turned out we needed it.

Even as people were getting ready, Hurmoo got caught by a high level Alliance paladin near the summoning stone and was insta-killed. Fortunately I had seen him coming and was trying to escape and evade while in prowl, so I managed to put my corpse close to a building. This let me revive on the other side of the building, out of sight, and head for the hills.

Azawak and Hurmoo laid low for a while as the other troops got themselves in position and Fayli traveled out to join him.

When everybody was ready, we summoned in Enaldie, Bigbutt, and Earlthebat, then started quickly towards the instance.

However, in the tunnels, we found the paladin again. He turned out to be level 80 and he killed us all pretty rapidly. Fayli showed up, but we hadn’t told him it was a paladin, just that a high level Alliance player was on us. It seems that a paladin is a tough target for a feral druid of the same level unless the druid gets the drop on him, so Fayli and the pally ran around the mines a bit while we revived and got killed once or twice more.

Eventually though, we all made it to the instance.

The Deadmines itself wasn’t much of a challenge. As a group of level 22 players, we were a bit above level for the instance. The instance is listed as being for levels 15 through 23, but by 22 you’re not really being challenged. The NPCs at the start of the instance were grey to us.

While familiar with the instance, we managed to get surprised now and again. We had forgotten that patrols show up to sweep the room when you finish a couple of the bosses, so you can get take unaware, especially by that group that shows up after you finish the foundry.

Looking Out Over The Foundry

It seems odd though that Blizzard established this patrol thing pretty strongly in the Deadmines, then didn’t use it again. At least I cannot think of an instance off-hand where something like that occurs.

We still showed care and did not get in over our heads… not very often anyway… even though everything was below our level. Things got a little more challenging once we got to Smite.

Facing Smite

You have to love VanCleef’s ship. Can you say “Top Heavy?”

We made our was along the decks and up the scaffolding, making it to VanCleef at last.

We though perhaps we could form an alliance with the Defias. These guys are fighting against Stormwinds, why are they aggro to us? But it wasn’t to be. He fought, we won, the achievement was ours.

Hurmoo is wearing the puffy shirt that dropped from VanCleef. Nobody wanted it, so it went to Hurmoo to disenchant.

While the Deadmines was fun, it was something of a nostalgia ride, and as such, did not last very long. We still had some energy left in us. So we decided to terrorize Westfall.

We first went to the flight point to see what we could slay there, but everything showed up as “??” to us, so we gave that a wide berth. No slaying the flight master for us.

We then headed to the Saldean Farm where all the NPCs were low level. We killed them all in front of a couple of lower level Alliance players.

Death To The Humans!

Then we ran over and tried to free Old Blanchy from his oppressors, the Furlbrows, who regularly give away his blanket and feed pouch. We slew them, but Blanchy was too brainwashed to accept his freedom, join us, and fight against the tyranny of Stormwind.

Free Old Blanchy

Then we headed into Elwynn Forest, where we slew guards until a pair of “??” Alliance players saw us and one-shotted us.

The Invasion Crushed

We went back, revived, found that at least our corpses were not being camped, declared a moral victory, and recalled for home. We decided to do a bit on the Pilgrim’s Bounty end of things.

All in all, it was quite a fun run. The Deadmines is still an awesome instance and I look forward to the heroic version that is promised for Cataclysm. Then perhaps Sneed and his shredder will be a challenge.

Sneed And His Shredder

The instance is also very good looking. Every time I go through it I am always struck by the lighting and how well it sets the mood. Somebody spent a lot of time on this instance.

After figuring out how the tables at Pilgrim’s Bounty worked and getting the first achievement or two, we started calling it a night one by one.

If we stay on our instance trajectory, Shadowfang Keep will be the next on the list. We are not dedicated to running all the instances again, the way we did with the original instance group, so maybe we’ll just go raid Westfall again.

It’s been a difficult year. But today is a day to give thanks. We have much to give thanks for, even if current circumstances aren’t ideal.

This morning I flipped on the Hallmark Channel, hoping that “The Golden Girls” may be on, but really expecting to see another Hallmark family classic snooze-fest of a movie. But it was a Thanksgiving miracle: the Golden Girls appeared on screen. And not only did they appear, but they showed up in a very special episode: Dorothy’s wedding (to Leslie Nielsen – whom I LOVE and adore).

Watching it gave me something to be thankful for.

We no longer have to wear dresses like this:

You can’t see it in the photo, but the wedding dress has full-length lace sleeves, and those ribbon curl things are just …. there are no words.

Sure, there are a lot more serious things to be thankful, but let’s keep it real. The fact that white beasts of a dress like this are no longer in style – that is worth celebrating.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Riding Giants is more than another blissfulsurfing movie. It's an outstanding documentary about one era in American alternative lifestyles, when surfing was well-suited to a radical culture of social dropouts. Using an amazing array of amateur film clips, shot for the most part in Hawaii and California from the late 1950s and early '60s, director Stacy Peralta traces the rise of surfing's appeal to young men looking to test themselves in an unorthodox (and sexy) milieu–of "living life to the fullest," as former surfer-turned-screenwriter John Milius ( Big Wednesday) puts it at one point. Lengthy chapters on the glories of Oahu's Makaha and the "superstition and dread" that accompanied the big-wave challenge of Waimea Bay are riveting and sometimes heroic, particularly told through the memories of surf legend Greg Noll. Great material, too, about the deadly wonders of surfing Mavericks, California, where the rocks will get one if the violent tides don't. –Tom Keogh Stills from Riding Giants (Click for larger image) More info »

This is not the official single artwork but it’s not released yet so I’ll update it when it’s officially released.

After the huge success of her debut single; ‘Bad Boys’…

(I’m sure this is the official Artwork)

… the ‘X Factor’ 2008 winner is set to storm the charts with her second hit, ‘Broken Heels’. It seems there is a pattern as both singles begin with the letter “b”.

The song starts off with her saying “Red One…” (The producer of the song who has also worked with Lady Gaga and the Sugababes) “I can do whatever you can do and I can do it even better in broken heels” and instead of the ‘Oooh Ways” and the “Oooh Wahs” of ‘Bad Boys, Alex decides to use some “He-e-eey’s” and “All the ladies, all the fellas, we can do it even better, we can do it even better in broken heels”. Then the beat really kicks in and she seems like she is getting ready to fight with lyrics like: “Pull my sleeves up, gab my hair up!” We shall see what she is really talking about in the music video that she has officially confirmed that the video for the song is complete via her twitter page.

It is an extremely ear-catching tune and will have you charmed from the first verse and I wish it all the best.

For starters, I never got around to blogging about our wonderful honeymoon. Judd and I rented a smal

For starters, I never got around to blogging about our wonderful honeymoon. Judd and I rented a small cabin on the Little Red River, just outside of Heber Springs, Arkansas. It was perfect! We spent the week hiking around the area and we saw some truly remarkable scenery, including several creeks and waterfalls, beautiful fall foilage, and breathtaking views. We traveled to Mountain View and visited the Ozark Folk Center and Blanchard Springs Cavern on a rainy day. We toured downtown Heber Springs for some shopping, eating, and even watched a movie at the old theater. Other sites included the Natural Bridge of Arkansas and Greers Ferry Dam. It was so peaceful and relaxing…I didn’t want to come home!!! Here are a few of my favorite pics from the trip:

After returning from the honeymoon, Judd’s sister, Erin, took some bride and groom portraits of us, since we weren’t able to get many at the wedding because it got too dark outside. Here are my favorites:

OH! And did I mention that Judd and I were baptized on the night of our rehearsal??? Yes we were! My Popi baptized us in Judd’s mom’s pool after our rehearsal dinner. It was a little chilly, but it was so special to have all of our dear friends and family there to witness it! We are so blessed!!! We are so thankful that by bringing us together, God has brought us to Him.

In other news…I recently watched “My Sister’s Keeper” and cried nearly the entire time. What a sad yet wonderful story. Made me realize just how selfish I am sometimes when I take for granted the amazing life God has given me. We should all really step back and appreciate what we have – to remind ourselves that He has blessed us all with more than we could ever deserve.

And with that said, I also recently read “How Good is Good Enough?” by Andy Stanley. This little 92 page book was a big eye opener for me. I have lived my whole life thinking that because I have lived a decent life, caused very little trouble, hardly ever broken the law, practiced good ethics and morals, that I was probably way better off than others who were criminals and drug addicts and so on. And the truth is, while all of those things have made my life less difficult than those who have chose another path – in God’s eyes we are the SAME. The book focuses on the fact that no, “good” people are NOT the only ones that go to heaven; that there is no given formula on how to live our lives to ensure we enter those pearly gates. There is only one simple thing we have to do to have eternal life – BELIEVE. Whether you are living by Mother Teresa’s example or an inmate sitting on death row…as long as you have accepted Jesus Christ as your savior and invited him into your heart – your soul is saved. I often selfishly wondered to myself “why am I always getting a bad deal and those ‘other’ people get everything they want? They don’t deserve it! Don’t I deserve better?” But this book made me realize it’s not about what we deserve. If God truly gave us all what we deserve, very few of us would come out ahead, I gurantee you that! But He is a merciful God who loves us and only wants us to know Him and have a relationship with Him. If we are willing to do that, He is willing to forgive us for all that we’ve done. And He sent His only son to die for those sins, so we could have everlasting and eternal life with Him in heaven. Isn’t that AMAZING???

The word gospel means “good news.” The good news is that good people don’t go to heaven – forgiven people do. And if you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your savior, you are one of those forgiven people!

I hope you will say the following prayer with me today…or at least some version of this one from the book:

Heavenly Father, thank You for not being fair. Thank You for instead being merciful. I believe true fairness would have separated me from You forever, because that’s what I deserve. Thank You for sending Jesus to die for my sins. I now place my faith in Him as my savior. Thank You for sending him to die in my place. AMEN.

Sunshine and Love,

Award-Winning International News Channel Breaks Into Canadian Market

OTTAWA, Nov. 26 /CNW/ – Al Jazeera English is pleased to announce that the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has included the award-winning international news and current affairs channel on its digital Lists of Eligible Satellite Services. This decision will allow Canadian cable and satellite distributors to include AJE among their channel offerings.

AJE has received indications from several of Canada’s major distributors that they want to include Al Jazeera English in their lineup, and is hopeful they will make an early announcement of a launch date.

The announcement from the CRTC follows a formal application process and a 30-day consultation notice period during which Canadians were allowed to submit letters voicing their opinions of AJE. The submission process demonstrated an overwhelming demand for the channel with 98% of the submissions, approximately 2,800 letters and emails, being positive.

Tony Burman, the Managing Director of AJE, is the former Editor in Chief of CBC News. Commenting on the CRTC decision Burman said, “We are very excited that Canadians will soon have the same opportunities as people in more than 180 million households in more than 100 countries. For over three years, Al Jazeera English has been setting new standards in reporting by providing a platform for the under-represented corners of the world. Over the last several months I have had the opportunity to travel throughout Canada and hear firsthand the great demand for our groundbreaking news and current affairs programming. We look forward to bringing AJE’s award-winning coverage to the Canadian people.”

Additionally, AJE has pledged to open a bureau in Canada in the near future, signifying the channel’s commitment to presenting Canadian news and perspective to a global audience. This will make AJE the only international news channel with a bureau in Canada.

Since launching in 2006, AJE has become a world leader in the coverage of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas. With broadcast centres strategically located in Kuala Lumpur, Doha, London and Washington, DC, and nearly 70 news bureaus around the world, the channel’s aim is to provide independent and impartial news for a global audience.

AJE has more than 1000 employees worldwide, representing more than 50 nationalities – including many from Canada – making AJE’s newsrooms the most diverse in the world.

In its short time on air, Al Jazeera English has been recognized for its distinguished reporting and programming. In 2008 and 2009, AJE received nominations for international Emmy awards in both the News and Current Affairs categories, and in 2009 the channel received a nomination in the documentary category. Additionally, AJE has received awards from the Monte-Carlo TV Festival, the Royal Television Society, Amnesty International and YouTube.

ECG (Ethnic Channels Group) acted as the channel’s sponsor, presenting the application to the CRTC in February 2009, a legal requirement for non-Canadian channels to be distributed in Canada. ECG is a Canadian multi-ethnic broadcaster, which currently offers 12 television channels to Canadian cable and satellite systems. This was the first application to the CRTC for carriage of Al Jazeera English.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! I thought that a public service announcement about something warm and fuzzy would be appropriate for Thanksgiving, but sadly, I only had one in my pile of ads and it’s not even a real PSA! But it is funny, so I decided that maybe it was a good thing to post for a holiday anyway.

This is an ad for the Save the Murlocs Foundation, which is fictional (since murlocs aren’t real except in World of Warcraft) and was created by Jinx, a clothing retailer. There are products (including a cute stuffed murloc) and a foundation website that tie in with the campaign.

Well, I don’t like killing murlocs anyway (they’re such drama queens!), but that certainly convinced me that they would take over Azeroth if their numbers weren’t kept down by all the very self-less adventurers who take time out of their busy lives to cull the massive hordes of murlocs that swarm the shores of nearly every beach known to humans, trolls, dwarves, tauren and everyone else!

Today, I went to the Zimbali Lodge and whilst having an Ice Coffee, decided to surf the free internet. My notebook’s battery died so I transferred myself onto the public workstation.

I noticed that someone hadn’t logged off Skype. Whilst curiosity killed Schrödinger’s cat, I checked out who the forgetful person was. It was a Jelena Marković. I noticed that the messages weren’t in english, so I looked at her Skype Profile and saw that an Gmail email was quoted. (Jelena also forgot to log out her Gmail in Internet Explorer)

Gmail: Logged In

Jelena Marković on Skype

So… I did a quick Facebook Email Search and found…

Facebook Email Search

I thought it quite bizarre that she was crowned and awarded something. (I didn’t know who she was)

Google Saves the Day…

I did a quick Google Search and discovered that she’s Miss Serbia! *Gasp*

I then did another search with the her name and “Zimbali” – the lodge only to discover that Miss World Beach Beauty 2009 took place there yesterday (25 Nov 2009).

Security

I’ve never really taken anything seriously when I read articles about keeping your personal data private while using a public computer.

If I had been someone targeting Jelena, I could have used the information on the computer for malicious reasons.

But Since I’m not, she’s pretty safe…

Clear your tracks!

I cleared the Browsing Data on Google Chrome (which, in the history and bookmarks, was full of porn! Ew. It’s a public place!) and Internet Explorer and logged her out of Google and Skype respectively.

Some of you may not take this as much concern, but whenever using a public computer, always LOG OUT and clear any traces that you left behind.

Here’s a good article on how to do erase those footprints you left behind: http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.html

Miss Serbia should pay me as a “security advisor”… Haha!

Cheers.
