NHR: Tell us about yourself?

Maria:  I am a 27 yr old grad student majoring in Psychology & Counseling (graduating this summer *fingers crossed*.) I love spending time with friends and family,  watching movies, and Zumba! I am a quiet person until you get to know me. I’m a bit of a nerd and enjoy things others may not really be interested in. I am an entrepreneur at heart and am using my direct selling businesses to help me start my own nonprofit for youth.

NHR: Tell us how Soul Purpose got started?

Maria: I got started in Soul Purpose, which is an all-natural body, beauty, and hair product line, after meeting my up-line at the World Natural Hair Show. I fell in love with the products and how soft and moisturized my skin felt. I also loved that the business was started by an African-American woman, Nadine Thompson. I was glad that she made a line that appealed to women of color. Every product is amazing!

NHR: How long have you been in business?

Maria:  I have been selling Soul Purpose for 7 months.

NHR: What inspired you to transition from relaxed to all  natural hair?

Maria: I was tired of hiding behind weaves and wanted to just start over. My hair was extremely damaged from all of the relaxers and tight braids over the years. I wanted my hair to be healthy again.

NHR:What products do you use on your hair?

Maria: I love Shea Mouisture’s coconut curling smoothie, my curls always come out beautiful. I like to use Aubrey Organics Rosemary conditioner, Avalon Organics Biotin Complex Shampoo, and Zenzele’ leave in conditioner. I also use Soul Purpose Ghanian Brown Sugar Shea Butter Balm to do twistouts.

NHR: Out of all the natural hair styles you have tried during your journey, which is your favorite?

Maria: I’m a slave to the twistouts! That’s my go to style.
