4 jours après leur dernier concert et 5 heures avant leur prochain à la Plaza Real durant le BAM, c´est un peu fatigué que je retrouve le sympathique groupe Naïve New Beaters, pourtant chanteurs énergiques de “try to follow it´s just another day”.

Mais à vrai dire leur éprouvante traversée du défilé de La Mercè se dissipe rapidement autour d´un cubi de sangria Don Simon, chère à Eurobelix, « homme machine » du groupe.
 
La discussion s’entame sur les origines du groupe. Les trois musiciens
se connaissent depuis le lycée où ils « se toisaient » seulement. L’acte de naissance du trio est signé au cours d’un vernissage où David Boring alias chanteur américain, met le feu  laissant Martin Luther BB King, le guitariste,  et Eurobelix scotchés dans l’assistance. Les deux compares, déjà en duo, sont contaminés par le flow du gringo et très rapidement la création d´un groupe où leur diverses influences et aspirations se mêlent s´impose.

Très motivés par la curieuse résultante de leur mélange pop-électro-rap ils ont su «
de suite qu´il fallait faire quelque chose » (DB).

Alors les concerts ont commencé et profitant de leurs savoirs dans d´autres domaines artistiques accompagnés d´un humour constant, ils ont en même temps développé une notoriété conséquente via Internet (Myspace, facebook, et youtube).

Le bouche à oreilles s´est très vite propagé jusqu´à celles des Inrocks qui les classaient dans leur CQFD (ce qu´il faut découvrir).

Par la suite ils sortent en mai 2009 leur premier album « Wallace » sous le label Cinq7 et depuis c´est partout en France et aussi en Angleterre, Belgique, Espagne (Benicàssim), qu´ils diffusent leur joie de vivre et leur rythme entrainant.

Ce qu´ils aiment entre autre, c´est d´être les « représentants » de la Californie, lieu dont la liberté les fait grandement rêver. Mais en attendant de s´y rendre c´est très comblés qu´ils continuent leur tournée en Europe (40 dates jusqu´a février) car comme dit Martin « si on y va trop tôt qu´est ce qu´on fera après ? ». Après février ? Ils ne savent pas trop encore, de nombreuses dates se font entrevoir mais l´envie de travailler sur de nouveaux tubes les tente aussi.

Tu pourras peut-être leur trouver un too much peu naturel et une stratégie marketing (qui te nieront pas d´ailleurs) trop surf, mais quand tu t´ attarderas sur leur sincère fraicheur joyeuse que ce soit dans leur son, leur créativité, ou leur façon d´être cela ne pourra que te faire du bien. Ça te rappellera aussi ta partie Naïve bien sympa à réveiller de temps à temps.

5 días después de su último concierto, me encuentro con el simpático grupo Naive New Beaters, un poco cansado… en 5 horas tienen su próximo concierto en el BAM (en la Plaza real), allí seguro que les vemos mucho más energéticos con su “try to follow it´s just another day”.

Bueno en realidad su difícil travesía del desfile de La Mercè se disipa rápidamente con un “tetrabrick” de sangría Don Simon, tan amada por Eurobelix, el « hombre maquina » del grupo. La conversación empieza con los orígenes del grupo. Los tres músicos se conocen desde el instituto donde solamente se cruzaban. El nacimiento de la banda ocurre durante un vernissage donde David Boring alias el « cantante americano », calienta la sala dejando impresionados a Martín Luther BB King (guitarrista) y Eurobelix que se encuentran entre el publico asistente. Los dos compares, ya en dúo, se contaminan por el flow del gringo y rápidamente se impone la creación del grupo, donde sus diversas influencias y aspiraciones se entremezclan.

Muy animados por el curioso resultado de su mezcla pop-electro-rap estos chicos han sabido « desde el principio que había que hacer algo » (DB).

Al mismo tiempo que los conciertos empezaban -aprovechando sus saberes en otros campos artísticos, siempre acompañados de buen humor- iban desarrollando una consecuente notoriedad vía Internet (Myspace, facebook, y youtube).

El boca orejas se propagó muy rápidamente hasta llegar a la revista “Les Inrockuptibles”  donde les clasifican en su « CQFD » (lo que hay que descubrir).

A continuación, en mayo de 2009 sacan su primer álbum « Wallace » bajo el sello Cinq7 y desde entonces actúan por toda Francia, en Inglaterra, Bélgica y España donde difunden su alegría y un ritmo convincente.

Lo que más les gusta es ser los « representantes » de California, donde la libertad les hace  soñar muchísimo. Mientras estén lejos, siguen felizmente su gira por Europa (40 actuaciones hasta febrero), porque como dice Martin:  « ¿si vamos allí ahora qué haremos después ?»

¿Después de febrero ? Aún no saben. Muchos conciertos previstos pero el deseo de trabajar sobre nuevos éxitos continúa apeteciéndoles.

Quizás te parecerán un tanto «too much », algo exagerados y una estrategia marketing (que no te negarán) muy surf, pero si te fijas en la sincera frescura que transmiten su alegre sonido, creatividad y forma de ser, solo te podrá hacer sentir bien. Te recordará tu lado más naïve bien agradable de despertar de vez y cuando.

Entonces si te los has perdido en el BAM, ahora tienes tu oportunidad el 28 de noviembre en el Razzmatazz.

La historia es la siguiente…unas oportunidades de la vida durante el festival de La Mercè en Barcelona nos llevaron a conocer esta fantástica tropa de teatro/baile/payasos/comedia musical STRANGE FRUIT.

Esta tropa australiana es la única en el mundo a tomar como escenario el público mismo. La ves valsando, volando, y actuando encima de ti, allí en un espacio libre que tiene como fondo “único” una infinita cantidad de lugares. De día te sorprenden, de noche te embrujan.

Esta genialísima idea es aún más admirable por estar llena de contradicciones porque al abrir una puerta a un nuevo escenario coreográfico priva a la vez sus integrantes agarrados a la cadera a unas especie de barras de hierro, de unos movimientos individuales básicos.

Pero estos esfuerzos suplementarios les permiten estar a 5 metros encima del suelo y con una música en perfecta harmonía con los movimientos fluidos crea un conjunto realmente bello.

Pues tan bello que teníamos que hacer algo obviamente, lo que sea pues como sea, para el intercambio carajo!!!

Ok j´aurais du mal à introduire le thème de meilleure forme que l´a fait mon seul ami “brésilien salvadorien” Dêiticos(http://www.deiticos.blogspot.com/), journaliste récemment censuré, alias Aleks…mais je donnerai raison à Don Quichotte et sa Fontaine, en proposant que l´élève supère le maître.

L´histoire est la suivante…quelques opportunités de la vie nous ont amenés à connaître cette fantastique troupe de théàtre/danse/clown/comédie musicale STRANGE FRUIT.

Cette troupe australienne est la seule au monde à prendre comme scène le public même. Tu les vois valsant, volant et jouant au dessus de toi, en haut là haut dans un champ d´action libre qui a comme « seul »décor une infinie quantité de lieux. De jour ils te surprennent, de Nuit ils t´ensorcèlent.

Cette idée géniale est d´autant plus admirable du fait qu´elle est pleine de contradictions parce qu´en créant un nouvel espace chorégraphique elle prive aussi ses intégrants attachés aux hanches à une espèce de barres de fer, de ses mouvements individuels les plus basiques. Mais ces efforts supplémentaires les permettent à 5 mètres au dessus du sol avec une musique en parfaite harmonie avec les mouvement, crée un ensemble réellement beau.

Une beauté si grande qu´on était obligé de faire quelque chose évidemment, quoique ce soit mais pour l´échange au moins !

ALEKS - Let me introduce myself first. My name is Aleks and I work as a freelance journalist for a Brazilian newspaper. Well … I gotta tell you, we saw you guys yesterday, by chance, performing and we thought it was amazing, very impressive, so we decided to try to find out a bit more about it, I have learned that you guys have been going on for some time.

BEN – 14 years. The company started in 94.

ALEKS –The whole idea departed from Melbourne right?

BEN- Yes, in Melbourne. Basically there was this guy, Paul, who worked in a street performance company and they created big streets shows, they built big ships which travelled down the streets to perform in festivals and having people performing in the ships. But then he started to move away from that company and came up with the idea of the flexible poles.

ALEKS – But did he come up with this idea inspired by his previous work?

BEN – Well, he talks about the flagpole. The vision of the mesmerizing, swaying way movements. He says about the field of wheat that he was looking at one day. he saw the wheat swaying in the breeze and that was part of the inspiration for the concept. Because, being a street performance himself and going to a lot of festivals he wanna develop something that everyone, or lots of people could see, so he wanted to raise it up. The partner of the guy who developed the whole idea was a theatre director. So they had a combination of his street performing and this technology. And his wife who worked along side him created and directed a lot of the shows, like “The spheres” and “The Field”.  She brought it together and created the shows.

ALEKS- Right. Addressing then the classical trouble that people have in street performances. Not many people in the audience can actually see the “stage”. That is great. And that was a original idea or you guys know if it has been done before?

BEN -  This is original. The particular way they made it is very original. You know there is the Chinese swaying poles, in the circus, but the materials of the poles are different and do it differently.

ALEKS – We also saw on the net that you guys have a few different shows in your repertoire, like The Field, The Spheres, The Angel… But how often do you create a new performance?

BEN – We try to create a new show every two or three years. Depending on the size of the show, I mean, we have different sizes, two person shows, four person shows, six eight… So depending on the size, it can take up to three years until we get it up running properly.

ALEKS – And what is the briefly the sort of background of the artists themselves. Cause it seems to demand a lot of skills such as theatre and dance, this whole fusion which is the very concept of the show. So what is the background you guys have?

BEN – Well, many different backgrounds. There are dancers, actors, circus and a sort of mix as well of artist who do three things.

ALEKS – Well, seizing the chance you are here, I was going to ask you, I was wondering about the training you guys have. How many times per week or what is the sort of physical conditions it demands… cause it seems to be a bit tough, isn´it? So how is it?

Maria – It is sort of different because we all have different backgrounds. Some of us come from acrobatic backgrounds and then they have their own acrobatic routine that they go through to maintain it. And some of us are more into theatre, or dancers, so depend on the type of background. We do not have a uniform way of maintaining the body, everybody is taking care of themselves. But we do yoga, which is a very good combination of strength and flexibility.

Yoga is very good for us. We warm us with it. But different people have different ways of conditioning their bodies.

ALEKS – And how is that thing where you guys stand on it? Do we control the actual swing movement using the hands somehow or there is another way?

Maria – We basically do the movements shifting our weigh on it.

ALEKS – Cause it seems so subtle. One wouldn´t even think that you are actually moving there. The visual effect is great.

And talking about it, how is the general audience response to it? Cause when you look at the people watching it they seem very hypnotized by the show. Is that the sort of reaction you want to create or what is the expectation you guys have?

Maria- That is it, pretty much. And the feeling of people imagining how that feels like, the sensation of being in the air, flying, being in a very big swing, having these moments of suspension where you think you are weightless.

ALEKS – So the concept wants to play on purpose with this idea of dreaming and flying.

BEN – Yeah. And a lot of the shows have a basic theme of uplifting, bringing you from the ground up. The Spheres and The Field, especially The Sphepres I think, is about taking people on a journey, from the earth to the heaven, and how we assume this relation to the heavens from earth.
