One of the final scenes of Harry Potter is the defence of Hogwarts and Harry’s life. The wizards have cast their protection spells to put a barrier around the area, however the evil followers of “He who shall not be named” find a portal and breach the protective barrier! However Harry and the people inside have been preparing for such an eventuality and in the end… well you can imagine who wins.
This week EMC RSA released ‘Security Analytics’ a major step forward in the industry expanding from edge protection to intelligence based security, think of it as the preparation for when you are breached. (As discussed in the last blog post… sorry with another movie analogy.)
The technologies involved are a combination of SIEM and Network Protection to provide the rich, granular data, which then is put into an analytics data warehouse and the intelligence built on top of this! Using this approach you have the ability to continuously improve your pattern recognition analytics, (breach detection) as well as I’m sure the community will add to this knowledge base. Secondly when you detect a possible breach you have all the data at your fingertips to perform the ‘forensics’ to find out what is going on, and shut it down.
To add to this, the system also accepts external feeds from security agencies, so you are not alone… For example RSA, provides a service to financial institutions to help them detect and shut down phishing expeditions extremely quickly. (Reports indicate that they are able to do this within hours compared to weeks.)
Yesterday during a presentation I mentioned this release and was asked, “What metrics do you have?” Which is an interesting question as we are so used to comparing the old way with the new. The problem I had in answering this question is that every attack is new! So the goal is to reduce the time to detection and the time to ‘shut down’. Some of the release materials talk about ‘typical’ breaches having taken weeks to detect, where we have been able to show, (with beta customers), this can be reduced to hours… But is that meaningful when the next attack has a completely different vector?
Anyway I’m guessing this is just the start of “Intelligence Based Security” and has resulted in the good guys leapfrogging the bad, which you must agree is goodness. Well I’ll get off my movie and security bandwagon for a little bit now…

That this earth would one day turn

Into a paradise, so beautiful

Life would be a spectacle in this heaven.

Have you ever dared to imagine?

That peace would be omnipresent;

No more innocent blood to shed,

No one to kill, no one to resent!

These hopes, these dreams

Embedded in my human heart

Make me strongly believe

As our world falls apart

From all the vile and the vices

That no matter what

Someday, goodness will have the last laugh

As afresh we would all start

And make this world a heaven…

Have you ever dared to dream?

That love would be the only religion

As people all across the world

Would share and care and unite as one.

Have you ever dared to envision?

That no one will die of hunger;

Riches will no longer be luxury of few:-

The curse of poverty won’t be there anymore!

Warner is starting to be envisioned as Australia’s future leader

Australia opening batsman David Warner has announced that he is still coming to terms with the increase in responsibility on his part.

Warner made his Test debut on December 1 in 2011 and has not missed a match, across all three formats, since then.

However, if Australia’s rotation policy were to spread from bowlers to batsmen, Warner would probably be the first person to be rested since he is a vital part of the national team’s batting lineup in all three formats, especially Twenty20 Internationals.

Warner had an extremely hectic schedule last year, which started off with six Tests at home and an ODI tri-series before heading off on tours of the West Indies, England, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka, all of which was topped off with the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) which took place amongst all those series.

The opening batsman is starting to learn that besides the fatigue and pain, which comes with playing the sport, there is also a lot of change that occurs in cricketers’ personal lives due to their cricketing duties and responsibilities.

“It’s so busy,” Warner said. “It’s about keeping a clear mind and trying to be as fresh as I can. I’ve had to watch little things like picking the right time to go out and enjoy yourself with your mates or have a beer with the guys. It’s important, that stuff, and I probably didn’t realise how much actual cricket I was playing and the intensity.

“I was a bit worn down last year. In the 12 one-dayers that we played I didn’t score any runs in the first six or seven games. I had to walk away a little bit and just say to myself that I had to clear my mind. I had put a little bit of pressure on myself thinking that you can come out and score runs every game but you can’t.

“I came out and scored a hundred in Queensland and a hundred in Adelaide. Here I am almost a year later I have not missed a game. Touch wood I can keep going and keep scoring runs for Australia. I’m feeling better than I was last year. It does become mentally exhausting not being able to see your mates and enjoy yourself at home in the periods like this. But we choose this sport, we love this sport and I love doing it.”

With Warner being omnipresent across all three squads, many of his team-mates and coach Mickey Arthur are starting to envision him as more of a leader.

Arthur even went as far as saying that Warner has the ability to lead the Australian side in any of the three formats in the future.

After the retirement of veteran Ricky Ponting, Arthur spoke to Warner about stepping up and assuming a larger amount of responsibility.

“I’m playing all three forms so I should be considering myself as a leader,” Warner said. “They’ve had a word to me about trying to be the senior person now and trying to set standards of our Australian way. Whether we’re doing a fielding drill or we’re batting out the back, just keep in mind that we’re training our backsides off and make sure everyone’s doing the right thing.”

Warner’s opening partnership with Ed Cowan has become so successful that they scored more runs than any other opening pair in Test cricket last year.

Cricket Australia have also made it clear that they do not wish to make Warner change anything about his attacking mindset in Test cricket, but the flamboyant opening batsman knows that he has to become more patient, which is where he looks to Cowan for help.

“Ed’s the type of guy, he takes the brains out there in the middle with us,” Warner said. “He’s the one who keeps me cool. He can identify periods where if I’m going and it’s close to lunch, he’ll just say to me ‘still play your shots but just be mindful that lunch is around the corner’. You need the brains there. He’s a guy who’s very smart. I reckon he’s too smart for cricket.

“He keeps a cool head out there all the time. When he’s under pressure he finds a way to block out everything that’s around him and just bat. Ed has just shown himself with his character and the strong mind that he has, that he can just block the littlest things out. It’s an amazing thing to have him at the other end to help guide you through.”

With Warner and Cowan having established themselves as a formidable opening pair and having Phillip Hughes coming in at one down, Warner is hopeful that the trio can create an even larger reputation for themselves when they tour India next month before clashing with arch-rivals England in their back-to-back Ashes series.

“The most important thing for us [is] getting through that tough [new-ball] period,” Warner said. “If we can get through to lunch without losing more than one wicket, we think that our job’s been done. It’s about consolidating and going on with it and trying to get big hundreds. If we’re facing 200 balls we should be a hundred. If we can keep meeting our own standards we should be fine.”

The photo on the left shows Corey Zarecki (director of Gundersen Lutheran Envision Engineering and Operations) on top of the north tower nacelle on our Cashton, WI, wind project. He is standing next to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) light which is also shown in the right photo. Since wind turbines are tall structures it is necessary to notify the FAA when planning a project.

As part of the permitting process for a wind turbine project, the Federal Aviation Administration will conduct an aeronautical study to determine whether or not the turbine will present an obstruction hazard to aircraft navigation. If the location is determined not to constitute a hazard it is still required to have the turbine properly marked and lighted to enhance visibility for pilots and reduce the likelihood of a safety incident.

For sites with multiple turbines, the FAA lights are synchronized for all turbines so the entire project blinks at the same time. This makes the multiple turbine site less distracting to pilots. You may notice the synchronized FAA lights if you drive past or fly over a wind farm at night. During construction and prior to power being provided to the turbine, FAA lights can be powered from an on-site generator, solar or battery-powered FAA lights are also available.

Today I went to a Passion and Vision Workshop. My sister had found it and sent it to me last month and thought it would be a good idea for me to go. Usually I have a hard time going anywhere that has to do with Yoga or meditation because well I just don’t really like going to that stuff. But luckily this had nothing to do with Yoga! The workshop was interesting, and I learned a lot about myself. We had to do our top 10 ideal things and then narrow it down to our top 5.

I always thought my number one would end up being me being an editor at Cosmopolitan, but it wasn’t. I am not going to sit here and list the ten I listed, but I’ll tell you what my top 5 were.

1. Be surrounded by my family

2. Be Healthy

3. Be an editor of my own magazine

4. Be in love

5. Happy

When it came down to it and was told to envision one thing, but not ever having the other I realized that I would always want to be surrounded by my family, and without them I wouldn’t be able to succeed in everything else I want to succeed in, which is how this became my number 1.

After we made the list we had to sit down and take pictures out of the magazine and create our vision board. I really words that inspire me or what I want to do. A picture of my vision board is above. Now all I have to do is stay positive and make everything come true! It is weird how so many people envision what they want and make it happen even if they don’t have the money or the time. They make the time and spend the money because it is something they want. I realize that I have been so negative, and I need to do a turnaround so I can start making this stuff happen!

I am 31 weeks pregnant as of Monday. My next OB appointment isn’t for another two weeks, but there is a lot going on between now and then!

I revised my birth plan and made it to be more flexible about the circumstances that will/could be involved in my delivery. Also, my mother and I toured the hospital where I would deliver Natalia earlier this afternoon. It was very short and sweet, we were in and out it probably less than 15 minutes. They showed us an empty room that was fairly small, but the fetal monitoring and newborn care stuff were all in the same room; so mommy & baby are never separated, which is my favorite aspect about it. The hospital is very quiet, serene and peaceful-NOTHING AT ALL like the hospitals in the city (I’m referring to Jacksonville). I was very surprised about how nice this hospital actually is. I’m actually not at all worried about delivering at a hospital anymore, now that I got an idea of what the environment will be like.

A few Baby Shower Decorations. (:

I’ve already started planning my baby shower. I am excited and anxious about this more than anything. I’ve made the invitation and invited the guests, I’ve ordered my dress and some decorations, and for the next week days I’m going to work on making the rest of the decorations, the games, and the music I want to play during the event. I have a veryyy busy next couple of weeks! I have a pregnancy care class to go to tomorrow morning, my baby shower Saturday, my birthday Sunday (Yay, I’ll be 20!), Dr. appointment the following week and then I’ll be starting the baby nursery paint and set up. I envisioned how I wanted the nursery to look like and then I sketched it on paper to get a more realistic visual of what I want. I’m happy that I have so many exciting plans to look forward to. I know everything is going to have a perfect result because I’ve preplanned and thought out everything, what it’s going to look like and how much its going to cost.

As for me personally, physically, and emotionally, I’m doing fantastic. The only complaint I have is the increasing occurrence of “Braxton Hicks” pains. They’re not unbearable, but they sure are uncomfortable! I cope with them by either walking them out or swaying my hips, something that moves me around to help distract me. Eventually, usually shortly after, I forget about them and they go away.

According to my pregnancy app, Natalia is well over 16 inches long and already weighs 3.5 pounds! Feeling her move so high on my stomach close to my boobs, and in my pelvis at the same time feels kind of funny. There’s a big baby in my belly I can feel it, lol! It’s becoming more uncomfortable than cute, especially at night when I’m trying to sleep. But I love feeling her so active in her little home, it reassures me how healthy and happy she is. (:

Other than that, everything else feels great. Morning sickness has ceased (for now, ‘knock on wood’), No additional stretch marks, I’m gaining the perfect amount of weight, not too much not too little, I am actively doing my yoga at least every other day, I’m getting things done on a daily basis at a very convenient pace, I feel positive about myself, my life and everything that’s happening in it, and I have nothing but good expectations and positive intentions for the future.

The New Year has begun, which means it’s a good time to begin working on that project that inspires

The New Year has begun, which means it’s a good time to begin working on that project that inspires you, also known as your dream. Dreams are the things that make our individual worlds what we want them to be. In order to create the life that you envision for yourself, it’s necessary that you have a dream. This means we have a clear picture of what our dream looks, feels, tastes, and even smells of what we envision. This approach provides us with a strong tactile sense that makes building the dream real for us.

Having a dream is as important as breathing clean fresh air. When we define our dream we are able to see the steps we need to take to make it a reality. No dream ever came to fruition without knowing and implementing a process to accomplish it. One way to define our dream is to immerse ourselves in the dream we want. What I mean by that is first we need to decide what we want. Is it a new car, a new home, a different career, or maybe starting a business? Whatever it is we need to define what that new car is or where that new house is located. If you’re starting a wedding cake business what’s your specialty?

The next step is to go touch your dream. Take a test drive in your dream car or better yet, rent it for a day and drive around town. Look at model homes or attend open houses. Spend some time sitting in the home by visiting as often as you can to get the feel of what it will be like when you’re in that home. Buy decorating magazines and cut out pictures of the furnishings you want in your home and paste them on a board. Study it and ask yourself, what’s one step I can take to achieve this dream?

I spent years doing this exact exercise to obtain some of my dreams. It’s a successful process because it narrows down what you need to do next. That’s how you build the life you want. Here’s one example of one individual who made one of his dreams come true http://finance.yahoo.com/news/paying-off-26-500-debt-104500886.html.

Remember that the size of your dream is not what’s important but the fact that you have a dream that you want to build.

Short and sweet:

Need a lightweight bike? Check out this video! This man makes bikes out of cardboard, and the bikes work! They can ride through puddles of water, carry an adult male and give transportation to people who couldn’t otherwise afford it. He was told it was impossible.

Now that’s creativity and determination put to good use!

Maybe Izhar will be the one who makes cardboard cars. We may need to peddle like the Flinstones did, but the cars would get great mileage, and when crashes happen, there’d be only minor paper cuts to heal.

This year let’s do good for people, places and events. Let’s be the good for all people, places and events. . . . Do-Be-Do-Be-Do.

As it is within, so without — meaning, what we create inside ourselves, we experience on the outside. Izhar began with “Yes!”

Don’t call me Julia. The people up here don’t say it right. In Houston, it’s pronounced “Jul-ya” with none of this three-syllables business.

During high school I worked on the yearbook staff, taking photos, quotes, and designing spreads, and in college I began copy editing for Ethos magazine after freelancing an illustration. I’m really interested in every aspect of journalism, from writing to photography to editing to multimedia, because I love the art of it, but I also understand the importance of publicizing events the mass population would otherwise not be aware of. This is vital because the people in the stories I am most interested to focus on need help and the readers, made newly conscious of the problem, can provide the necessary change. Rather than pursuing art itself, I chose journalism because of its purpose–to change the world.

During my sophomore year, I applied to Flux stories magazine and received a position as copy editor there. Now, as a junior, I am an associate editor for Flux and Envision, our school’s environmental magazine, as well as a writer for Ethos. With these opportunities as a starting point, I hope to someday end sexism, racism, the exploitation of third world countries, rape, human trafficking, starvation, undereducation, malaria, and homophobia. Or at least plant a stepping stone somewhere.
