L’araldo della buona notizia! Il Vangelo, in senso letterale, della cosa-Pumpkins. Sempre lui, il Kerry Brown. Che oggi, poco fa, in un ispiratissimo social-cinguettio (Tweet) ha finalmente detto qualcosa sui primi pezzi di “Teargarden by Kaleidyscope”, dati per dispersi dal primo novembre, ovvero la data di “lancio” promessa da Corgan al momento dell’annuncio del progetto.
Oddio, non che si dica granché. Anzi, non si dice proprio nulla, se non che “arriveranno presto”, concludendo con un “rompere le palle non velocizzerà la cosa”. Prima il buon Mr. Brown(stone?) tende a sottolineare, con un arguto gioco di Caps-Lock, che i pezzi saranno gratis. Quindi è tutta roba regalata, quindi non è che uno può lamentarsi troppo se son due settimane e rotte che doveva già essere atterrata e nessuno ha detto nulla. Stupidi noi.
Ma è solo un tweet e quindi nema problema. Certo, magari sarebbe più facile intuire il potenziale dramma (di certo esagerato, ok) vissuto da qualcuno sui forum e sui blog appena il ritardo ha iniziato a oltrepassare i sei minuti e le voci da parte di Corgan e Brown si sono spente: lo spettro di mille progetti abortiti dal Capo delle Zucchine ha aleggiato alitando pesantemente. A seguire, il testo del messaggio citato:

Dopo un concerto all’Echoplex (dedicato alla stessa Laura Masura delle aste su eBay), dopo inutili battaglie a base di bamboline bambolate, dopo aver detto che il primo EP (in senso strettamente fisico) non farà capolino prima del 2010… finalmente qualcosa di serio si muove. Ieri Kerry Brown ha confermato che Corgan/gli Smashing Pumpkins hanno completato i master delle prime quattro canzoni.
Insomma, il download dovrebbe essere dietro l’angolo. A questo punto ogni ora di ognuno dei prossimi giorni (o di questo, vai a sapere) è buono per aspettarsi i link e capire che succederà. Intanto, sempre al suddetto concerto, i Backwards Clock Society (Corgan + Tulin + Brown) hanno fatto debuttare “Tom Tom”, un nuovo pezzo. Lo potete vedere+sentire cliccando qui. Al numerosissimo pubblico di questo blog il compito di commentare.

P.S. dalla foto dei master appare evidente che lo scisma mentale relativo al nome del gruppo è ancora tutto da risolvere. Signore, signori, date il bentornato all’articolo!

On the Internet, there are no secrets, especially in the tech industry. Rumors leak out by the dozens and for the last few years, the insiders who leak documentation on gadgets are hitting the mark almost exactly.

Today’s leak is the Olympus Pen (EP-2). The EP-2 is the second coming of the Pen (EP-1) that was released a few months back. Almost immediately after the EP-1 hit the streets, rumors were already spurring around on what the EP-2 would have. Sure enough, the EP-2 may fix nearly all the deficiencies that many photo-heads found in the first one.

The EP-1 was a redesign of the famed classy Olympus PEN 35 mm film camera. Despite the film camera not being pen-like in any aspect, it was called PEN because of its small size and portability. The PEN was the worlds first half-frame camera at the time. Thanks to the micro four-thirds system, developed by Olympus and Panasonic, Olympus was able to recreate the camera for the digital era while keeping the PEN’s iconic body mostly intact.

During my stay in Hong Kong this past summer, the EP-1 was the camera to drool over. Not as large as even the smallest DSLRs on the market (Nikon D40, 60, 3000, 5000/Canon XSi, XS, T1i to name a few) and not as compact as a point and shoot, micro four-thirds cameras are somewhere in the middle. With nearly the same optical features and manual controls of a DSLR, but in a much more compact body, its a win for everybody. Of course, like all things that are beautiful and shiny, the EP-1 would have put a hole in my pocket, roughly about $800 USD worth of patching necessary I’d estimate. My uncle who is a major photo-buff but only as a hobbyist was going to buy one, but smart thinking told him otherwise; the EP-2 was already on the horizon.

Although Olympus has yet to officially announce the camera, here is what we know according to source 43 Rumors:

3fps: More continuous shooting frames never hurts

Stereo Sound: Sounds good. Pun intended.

AF tracking: I love sharp images.

1.44 million dot electronic viewfinder with 100% field of view: OMG. A 100% viewfinder would sell me immediately. I’m sick of 95-97% view finders.

8 Art Filters (two more than the E-P1 ….. Diorama Filter and Cross Process): I’m not big on these, but its nice to have.

i-Enhance function (color boost): Vivid. More vivid. Redder reds, yellower yellows. Yes.

All in all the specs look great on paper, and Olympus may still have some surprises we don’t know yet! The EP-2 will cost about 950 Euros or about $1,409. That’s expensive, but did I mention it will come in black? Ooooh, black. Release date is scheduled to be around January 2010. Delicious.

Non è ancora chiaro come il sole se le uscite che andranno a comporre il voluminoso “Teargarden by Kaleidyscope” saranno costituite da singole tracce o, invece, da blocchi di quattro pezzi. Che andrebbero quindi a costituire ognuno uno degli undici EP (quindi undici “pubblicazioni”) previsti dal mastodontico progetto di Corgan e chiunque gli girovaghi attorno. L’ipotesi più credibile, comunque, è proprio quest’ultima: anche perché dallo studio di registrazione viene comunicato che tre canzoni sono pronte e si affronta in questi giorni la registrazione della quarta. I tempi tornano, dato che la distribuzione digitale è prevista per “Halloween o giù di lì” (cfr. comunicato di Corgan dello scorso settembre).
Gente che, a differenza di chi scrive, ha spolpato tutte le registrazioni delle “prove live” effettuate sotto il nome di Billy Corgan & the Spirits in the Sky dello scorso agosto, ha anche individuato quali pezzi potrebbero far parte della prima puntata. Riprendo dall’ottimo HipstersUnited.com:

Song 1: People seem to think this is “Astral Planes,” based on the Dave Navarro radio interview combined with Billy teasing it on some Twitter videos.

Song 2: Originally thought to be a quiet/piano song, based on a photo on Kerry’s blog. Now thought to be “Widow Wake My Mind” (based on the puppet guitar clip). But the piano photo doesn’t rule out Widow, according to this blog entry: “The word from Billy is “yesterday was an awesome day” he tracked lead guitar, piano, and organ on song number 2.”

Antes de ver o terceiro Episódio, vou postar a trilha do segundo, que na minha visão não foi tão interessante. As cenas e as músicas não se encaixaram tão bem quanto no primeiro episódio. Tirando é claro a parte onde toca a música da Leighton Meester (Blair), o que pra divulgação da carreira solo dela é muito bom haha.

No último domingo teve início a 6a. temporada de Desperate Housewives e a loucura começa mais uma vez.

Essas donas de casa me enlouquecem de curiosidade todas as vezes. E por mais que o seriado tenha seus altos e baixos de audiência, encontra de alguma forma força pra continuar rolando.

Essa premiere teve o casamento de Susan e Mike, que já era de se esperar, e enquanto todo mundo odiou o fato disso ter acontecido, eu amei! Os dois foram feitos pra ficarem juntos e tenho dito! PRONTO FALEI!

Gaby que começou no seriado como a jovem burra gananciosa modelo, vem nos surpreendendo com uma sabedoria adquirida sem igual. Foi lindo o momento que ela pegou os papéis e assinou para ser guardiã da sobrinha mal caráter e olho junto.

Tô com uma pena profunda de Lynette, 6 filhos não é pra qualquer um no mundo pós-moderno, né?! E ainda acho que ela devia ter feito um aborto, geraria uma discussão muito mais massa… mas esposas de bairros suburbanos não fariam isso de jeito nenhum, fariam? Só vou achar massa mesmo essa história se ela pirar geral e tentar se matar, usar umas drogas pra acabar com a gravidez, sei lá, umas loucuras de filme assim… Desperate Housewives sempre me choca, e tudo pode acontecer.

Por fim, Bree sempre foi de um avanço significativo em todas as temporadas. Adoro o lado malvado, manipuladora e prosti dela. Mesmo mantendo o seu clássico jeito de dona-de-casa suburbana, tendo que limpar um quarto de motel, pra poder ter um affair com o ex-marido de Susan.

As novidades não são muitas, mas a nova família que tem a participação da atriz Drea DeMatteo (Gina do seriado “Joey” – aquele de Friends lembra? hehehe) conta com a participação de um filho “pedaço de mal caminho” e alguns mistérios a parte.

Só pra constar há boatos ainda de que o ator Shawn Pyfrom que faz o papel do filho de Bree – Andrew – decidiu sair da série, e deve participar só de mais uns episódios e partir pra sempre. Pena! Era um colírio pros meus olhos.

Não foi aaaaaa superrrr premiere assim, mas valeu a pena, não teve nada de ruim pelo menos. Agora é esperar pra ver o que aconteceu com a Julie no próximo episódio.

As novas temporadas mal começaram e já tivemos uma baixa logo no segundo episódio. Tô praticamente abatida assim :~ hauahuha…

Não deu tempo de se apaixonar perdidamente, e todas as críticas foram negativas em todos os lugares, mas pô! Eu tinha gostado da nova série The Beautiful Life. Tinha potencial pra ser grande coisa. Mas não deram chance.

Baixa audiência, falta de química entre os atores, dentre outras críticas sem fundamento nenhum foram levantadas. Até a coitada da atriz Mischa Barton (Sonja Stone – nossa Marissa de The O.C.) sofreu as conseqüências.

Mas é isso, não veremos mais aqueles belos atores pra lá e pra cá desfilando nas passarelas, nem babados quentíssimos do mundo fashion e muito menos um trilha sonora indie de sair dançando pela sala. Fazer o que, né?! Saiu do perfil médico, super-herói, ou high school: tá fora do quadro da emissora.

A promessa de 2010 foi lançada no dia 24 de setembro, mas porque a promessa de 2010? Porque ao que tudo indica ela veio para tapar o buraco que será deixado pelo final da série Lost em 2010.

Baseada no livro homonimo de Robert J. Sawyer, na história tudo começa com um estranho evento: todos os sete bilhões de habitantes do planeta desmaiam por exatamente 2 minutos e 17 segundos. A maioria acorda. Alguns não, pois milhões de pessoas morreram em acidentes de automóveis, queda de aviões, afogamentos, etc. Durante o tempo em que ficaram inconscientes, todos vêem cenas de seu futuro.

O protagonista de Flash Forward é o agente do FBI Mark Benford – - vivido por Joseph Fiennes, de Shakespeare Apaixonado. Ex-alcóolatra, ele vê que em seu futuro foi abandonado pela esposa, seu parceiro foi assassinado e voltou a beber. Logo, Mark descobre que todas as visões mostram o mesmo dia, 29 de abril de 2010. Mas o que causou esse blecaute mundial? Como todos recobraram a consciência no mesmo momento? Por que todas as visões são do mesmo dia?

E estes são só alguns dos mistérios da série, que foi produzida pela Rede ABC, o mesmo canal de Lost. Além de Joseph Fiennes, também estão no elenco Sonya Walger, a Penny Widmore de Lost; John Cho, que fez o papel de Hikaru Sulu no novo Star Trek; Jack Davenport, de Coupling, Courtney B. Vance, de Law & Order: Criminal Intent; Christine Woods, Zachary Knighton e Peyton List.

Sinopse via Efeito Pop

Bom, eu não assisti Lost, mas vou tentar acompanhar Flash Forward porque realmente gosto de ficção científica.O primeiro episódio me deixou com aquela ansiedade no final, e isso sempre te atrai pra procurar ver o segundo episódio e assim por diante. Fica a dica.

Não consegui controlar nenhuma das minhas emoções ao assistir o episódio duplo que deu início a sexta temporada de Grey´s Anatomy. Num misto de choro, negação, e gargalhadas, foi assim que eu assisti os episódios na noite de ontem. A morte de George O´Malley gerou a mesma confusão sentimental aos outros personagens da série, como a mim, mostrando os diferentes tipos de luto de cada um.

A temporada também traz diversas novidades: como a vida de casados por um “post it” de Meredith e Derek, a crise econômica do hospital gerando a necessidade de rever o emprego de todos os funcionários, a recuperação e manutenção do câncer de Izzie, a quase “demissão” do Chefe, a terapia de Owen e Cristina, o luto profunda da Dra. Bailey, a mudança de hospital de Callie, Mark e Lexie indo morar juntos e por fim, o velório de George. Dentre outras tantas, claro.

Realmente o episódio duplo prometeu uma temporada incrível e de muita emoção, mesmo com a saída de O´Malley. Infelizmente os boatos que correm nos bastidores é que nesta temporada o ator Patrick Dempsey (Derek) tira umas férias no final da temporada, e não aparece por alguns episódios. O ator James Pickens (Chefe) deve sair da série. A atriz Ellen Pompeo está grávida de 9 meses já, o que deve afastá-la por um tempo também. E por fim a atriz Katherine Heigl (Izzie) que sempreeee foi contra a greve dos roteiristas, volta a criticar os escritores da série, e também deve dar um tempo agora no início da temporada de uns 5 episódios. Ou seja, tem tudo pra ser uma temporada insanamente CHATA!!!

Cucina is a stylish restaurant at Marco Polo Hong Kong Hotel. They have 2 kitchens, one serving Italian cuisine, the other one serving Chinese/Asian cuisine. While the appetizers and main courses are essentially traditional fare, desserts are of the much hype molecular cuisine variety.

Overall, both the food and service are very good. The prices are not moderate for a hotel restaurant and you can get a 15% discount if you book online through their website.

Remember seeing the preview of season 2? Well, ep 1 has finally come out and as well as the making of it.

Even though it’s short, it made me giggle; YoonYul were bully Sica lol. You can see the preview to Ep 2 with giant Yuri trying to ride on the bike made for a toddler. Ahh these girls are uber dorky. BTW, here’s the making of Ep 1.

Panasonic finally release the sister camera of Olympus’ EP-1. The GF1 has a couple of features the EP-1 doesn’t have:

• Faster autofocus and AF subject tracking
• Higher resolution screen (twice as many dots)
• Built in flash
• Optional Viewfinder

All of which (well … maybe except the screen, I don’t care about the resolution) are exactly the gripes I have with the EP-1. Now this camera has become my primarily choice of a DMD camera.

AF System

As a DMD camera AF speed is going to be critical, for-the-moment street shots don’t allow photographers lots of time to focus. Most of the time you don’t even have time to bring the camera to your eye, and have to shoot by the hip. AF system is critical in this situation.

Built-in flash

As a party / clubbing camera, flash is a must in those “dungeons”. Even as a street camera or carry-everywhere one. A bit of fill flash from time to time will improve the shot a lot. Olympus says it is impossible to put a flash in that body, Pany proved it otherwise.

Optional Electronic Viewfinder

Throughout the whole history of digital compact camera, I have never adjusted to shoot using just the rear LCD screen. So an EVF is a must for me. The optical VF for the EP-1 is just a poor substitute to a true through-the-lens viewfinder. So thank you Panasonic for making one.

I got a very disturbing call from a friend of mine the other day. He called to ask for my opinion about using manual lenses on his spiffy new digital camera and all I said was….WFT?
I mean, how many of you get a call from someone who would ask you what you felt if you were given a manual car to drive? I couldn’t hide my rage and decided to give him a piece of my mind.
You digital blokes have it all easy these days until you do not know how to manually handle a lens, and if the majority think this way, then Voigtlander is truly shafted in the rear!
The CV (Cosina Voigtlander) dudes have released a M4/3 lens adaptor for Nikon lenses and it looks like you’d be able to use all manner of Nikon lenses on your Olys and Panny cameras.

Seriously speaking, just how may of you out there THINK that this would mean you can use AF coupled lenses? Raise your hands now please….
Let’s see….1 dork….2 dorks….3 dorks….ok I give up.
So let me set the record straight. AF coupling requires the work of a chip embedded in your camera. For this to work, you gotta LICENSE the firmware rights from Nikon to do so, and if you don’t, a letter will arrive from Nikon’s lawyers to ask you if you’d be free for tea.
However if you don’t have this little gizmo in your camera or lens adaptor, then these same lawyers will have no reason to ask you out. Which is why these lenses will get to fit onto your M4/3 camera.

EP-1 with a Nikon Lens

Using a manual lens is a charming experience. I’ve had many film cameras and the thought of manual focus has never sent any shivers down my spine even when my own eyes are going to give up on me due to old age.
AF is nice, but if you have never experienced handling a manual lens, you better start now. For one, there are so many more lenses to experience with a new adaptor and in the case of Nikon, so much more lenses.
The drawback of using such lenses on the Pen or Lumix digital cameras is really the EVF or LCD. They do not accommodate the turning of the focus ring fast enough for you to judge if the image is in sharp focus. In older cameras such as SLRs, there were focus screens with target areas sharped like cross hairs of a sniper’s gun. Within this focus area, you’d be able to see the focusing patch which sort of told you if your focus was sharp. Even Rangefinders of old had a focus patch, which allowed you focus an object in the center of the frame.
The Lumix and Pen both have a manual focus zoom for you to check the sharpness of the area in focus, But it can be cumbersome to use if you are shooting in a hurry. That said, you should only use manual focus lenses once you get the hang of it.
But this is not to say that it’s not good. Most old manual lenses can be had for a song these days and you only need to buy this one adaptor to fit a bargain bin lens on your camera.
Getting the focus right will require some work but once you get the hang of it, it’s like riding a bicycle. You’ll never forget the experience!

Food photography is one of my favorite subject. I love good food and I also like to take photos of the food while dining out. I used to have to carry a large DSLR to restaurants, which was not always convenient. Now with the Olympus Pen, it is much more convenient and less obtrusive to shoot photos of the food in restaurants.

I tested out the Olympus Pen E-P1 and Voigtländer Nokton 58mm F 1,4 SLII combination last night and I am quite pleased with the results. All the photos were shot in RAW, then converted to 16 bit TIFF with Capture One Pro and then further processed in Photoshop CS4 and re-sized and converted to JPEG for web output.
