E 'documented that Australia, the highest per capita use of asbestos in the world from 1950 to 1

E 'documented that Australia, the highest per capita use of asbestos in the world from 1950 to 1970 As a tragic consequence, Australia is now the highest per capita incidence of mesothelioma in the world. With more than 500 Australians contracting mesothelioma per year, it is estimated that up to 18,000 Australians die of this cancer of asbestos until 2020.

Despite awareness of the dangers of asbestos many people who have not heard of mesothelioma. This type of asbestos cancer is defined as follows: the extension of a malignant tumor of the mesothelium of the pleura, pericardium or peritoneum, who inhaled asbestos fibers.

One of the most baffling and frightening known as mesothelioma take many years between the inhalation of asbestos dust and its deadly legacy of disease, it is not uncommon for four decades or more, curriculum vitaeSymptoms> caused by the inhalation of asbestos dust are visible.

In November 2004 I was invited speaker at the Global Asbestos Congress in Tokyo in 2004, instead. Over 800 participants from 40 countries around the world were present. To participate in a part of a large gathering of people, trying to eliminate the poison of asbestos from our environment, was an intense emotional experience. After losing my husband to mesothelioma I know first hand the suffering of thesecruel disease and its innocent victims.

There were many speakers and each one tells a story of pain, death and pain. We listened, we understood and we ached for the victims of past, present and future murderess of asbestos and its legacy of mesothelioma and other asbestos diseases. We listened and we were shocked and outraged that, despite the growing awareness of the dangers of asbestos and the increasing number of asbestos-related diseases, remainssome countries, mining asbestos with little or no regard for their employees or persons who will be in contact with asbestos.

Member of the Asbestos Disease Association of the World-Wide working tirelessly and fighting against insurmountable odds to ban asbestos from all countries. It 'a fact that is disturbing and alarming that, even if we have reached today in society, the legacy of asbestos-related diseases will continue for five decades.

Add your voiceAdd this to people who want murderess produced by crossing the environments in the world – her voice to the request for reasonable compensation for the victims and their families and lawyers. Sign the online petition at Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization:

To advance the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO) to continue the public awareness about the dangers of asbestos and often incurable and fatal diseases related to asbestos. ADAO is expanding and uniting veteransThe firefighters, builders, teachers and thousands of innocent people throughout the world.
Map of Dengue Fever...red area indicates epidemic stage...notice Mexico??? Ever heard of Dengue Feve

Map of Dengue Fever...red area indicates epidemic stage...notice Mexico???

Ever heard of Dengue Fever? Well, get used to hearing its name (pronounced “den-jee”) a lot more. According to the World Health Organization, it is now found in 50-100 million people a year, and is responsible for 22,000 deaths annually. Unfortunately, the deaths are mostly children. The W.H.O. states that 2/5ths of the planet (2.5 billion people) are at risk for the disease.

So just what is Dengue fever, or Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF)? It’s a virus-based disease spread mostly by mosquitoes, but also helped along by infected blood products, like blood transfusions, plasma and platelets. It is also known as break-bone fever, mostly due to one of its symptoms -severe muscle and joint pain. Other symptoms include high fever, rash, severe headache and pain behind the eyes. Dengue virus belongs to the family Flaviviridae, which includes the hepatitis C virus, West Nile and Yellow fever viruses among others.

The disease usually lasts up to 10 days, but complete recovery can take up to a month. There is presently no tested or approved vaccine. Primary prevention currently consists of mosquito control (and we all know how well that doesn’t work). Thai researchers are now testing a vaccine on humans that showed promise on small animals, and some other vaccine candidates are entering phase 1 or 2 testing.

On February 2, 2009, the BBC reported a Dengue fever outbreak in Bolivia. That outbreak had already killed 5 people, and infected more than 7,000 by then. Bolivia is facing an epidemic in its tropical lowlands and its strained health system appears unable cope. Authorities there have declared a health emergency. A number of Bolivian military facilities had been turned into temporary hospitals, and thousands of soldiers and medical workers were enlisted to help.

File this under “Way to go, Cesar”…

There was a serious outbreak in Rio De Juneiro in February 2002 affecting around one million people and killing sixteen. On March 20, 2008, the secretary of health of the state of Rio De Juneiro, Sérgio Côrtes, announced that 23,555 cases of dengue, including 30 deaths, had been recorded in the state in less than three months. Côrtes said, “I am treating this as an epidemic because the number of cases is extremely high.” Federal Minister of Health, José Gomes Temporão also announced that he was forming a panel to respond to the situation. CESAR MAIA, mayor of the city of RioDe Juneiro, DENIED that there was serious cause for concern, saying that the incidence of cases was in fact declining from a peak at the beginning of February. By April 3, 2008, the number of deaths reported rose to 55. Nice call, jackass…

The map (courtesy of the W.H.O.) to the right shows the spread of Dengue, with the red areas having reached epidemic proportions. Makes that Mexican vacation a bit more interesting, eh?

Over these past few years I know what it has been like to be on the top of your faith and I know wha

Over these past few years I know what it has been like to be on the top of your faith and I know what it is like to almost lose it. I know the arguments for both accepting and rejecting faith in Christ. I know how true Christianity and false Christianity look like and have experienced both sides of the proverbial coin.

And one major problem has allowed me to examine why I truly believe in Christ: hypocrisy. This one major problem that has spread throughout the body of Christ is why I have wondered why I believe in Christ in the first place. This one major problem has made me wonder is it worth fellowshipping with those who call themselves Christians. And this one major problem has almost destroyed my faith, my ministry, and my life.

Jerks—I can’t stand them. If anyone is honest with himself or herself they would probably say the same thing. I mean, who says that they love jerks? I mean anyone with half a brain would probably say, “I can’t stand jerks.” I mean that’s just me, but who knows these days. But it seems like the epidemic of “jerk-itis” is on the flippin’ rise. I see girls that are in love with macho jerks; I see people in government that are elitist jerks; I see corporate executives that are greedy and are ravenous jerks; I see jerks, jerks, and more jerks.

But the one place I have seen more jerks in my life than any other place unfortunately is not in the clubs, Washington, D.C. , or on Wall Street—nope, the place I have seen my fair share of jerks is in the church. Now it is one thing for some atheist to write this statement; but this is coming from someone who is a passionate believer in Christ, who loves Christ and His church, and was a former “jerk.”

You see, when I first became a Christian I was brought up more with the mentality of being a legalist jerk than being a compassionate servant. For me it was all about being right and wrong and it was about who could be the most holy and dress in the best suit. It was about politics and about CCM (hating it, then liking it, then having to hear it is the “devil’s music,” then finally liking it). It was about going to that “Christian college,” and abstinence and about dating is bad and courtship is good. In the end it was about me, myself, and I. I didn’t even grasp the picture of what authentic Christianity looked like until recently in life. All I was seeing previously was hypocrisy, fundamentalism, legalism, and everything that the Lord hates but the things that permeate the Church.

Jerks are everywhere man and they come in all shapes and sizes. They are nonbelievers but they are believers as well. I am not saying that the things above like CCM, abstinence, and courtship are bad things. But having the attitude that because I like or practice those things makes me better than you is “jerkish.” What we need to do to eradicate the “jerk-itis” syndrome that is going around the church today is replace everything “we hate” with the royal law as James puts it: to love God and to love others. If we would become a band of believers that were known more for who we love than for what we hate—the world wouldn’t have to see us as bold-face bigots or hatemongers; we could be seen as revolutionaries, as compassionate servants of the kingdom desiring life change in every individual life.

I have been there and done that when it comes to being a “jerk,” and now I abandon it for something authentic—a true servant of Christ. Laying aside any fundamentalism, or legalism, or judgmentalism, or homophobia, or hypocrisy, or anything that would hinder me from opening up the truth of the gospel with others—I serve God with all my heart and love God and love others.

Here’s a “short test” to see if you pass or fail the “jerk test”:

“With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.” (James 3:9-10)

So if you praise God yet curse men, you pass the “jerk test” with flying colors, and if you don’t, well then you fail. If we were honest with ourselves, I would say we all have passed and have been there, done that. Let’s resolve never to commit the act that James has spoken of, but let us always do the following:

“If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself,’ you are doing right.” (James 2:8)

Swine flu is running rampant throughout the world. But is it a pandemic or simply an epidemic? Epide

Swine flu is running rampant throughout the world. But is it a pandemic or simply an epidemic?

Epidemic n. & adj. comes from the Greek epidemios, which was first used in medical contexts by Hippocrates in 430 BC. Epi- is a prefix meaning “on,” and demos means “people.” Hippocrates used epidemios to describe any disease that preyed on the people of a particular place. The meaning of epidemic has changed somewhat since them; today an epidemic is a widespread, temporary outbreak of a single disease in a particular locality.

By the way, demos is the same root you see in democracy [demos + kratia (= "rule, authority")]. Epi- is familiar from some other words such as epicenter (the point on the Earth’s surface directly above the center of an earthquake) and epidermis [epi- + dermis (="skin")]

Pandemic n. & adj. comes from the Greek pandemos. Pan- means “all” or “whole,” and pandemos was used to describe anything that affected the whole population. Today a pandemic is an epidemic that affects a wide geographic area such as a whole continent or even the whole world.

Policemen wearing masks to protect against the 1918 flu pandemic, which killed an estimated 50 (yes, fifty) million people. Photo: National Archives (USA).

Pandemic has an element of exaggeration built into its etymology, since a disease outbreak need not sicken everybody to qualify as a pandemic – unless you use “everybody” in the way teenagers sometimes do, when they say “Everybody is going to the party / buying this gadget / etc.”

Pandemic conveys the opinion that a disease outbreak is severe. There is no precise, generally accepted definition of pandemic in the medical literature, in part because there is no precise way to say “worrisome.” The World Health Organization used to define an influenza pandemic as causing

“enormous numbers of deaths and illness.” But the agency recently pulled the definition, apologizing for causing confusion and anxiety (NYT)

On the other hand, one cannot completely remove the idea of severity from the definition of pandemic. In the words of Dr. Michael T. Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota,

“you can’t use the terminology [pandemic] for just worldwide transmission, because if you did that, you would say every seasonal flu year is a pandemic” (NYT).

To call every seasonal flu outbreak a pandemic would move too far away from the idea that a pandemic must be a cause for grave concern and concerted action. The WHO does call the swine (or H1N1) flu a pandemic, even though the death toll has so far not been very high, out of concern that this outbreak could someday mutate in a way that causes large numbers of deaths.

There is one more germy -demic word. Endemic n. & adj. comes from the Greek endemos [en- ("in") + demos]. A disease is endemic in a region if it has been prevalent in that region for a long time due to local conditions such as, for instance, the presence of a particular kind of parasite.

GlaxoSmithKline has advised doctors in Canada to stop using a batch of its swine flu vaccine, amid reports of severe side-effects in some patients.

The batch of some 170,000 doses was put on hold because of the reported higher than usual number of patients having anaphylactic reactions.

This may include breathing problems, raised heart rate and skin rashes.

The pharmaceutical company said it was investigating the reports, which could lead to the withdrawal of the batch.

The reports say one in 20,000 people suffered adverse reactions to the batch of GlaxoSmithKline’s Aperanix vaccine.

The world is going down the tube. Sin has become politically correct. People flock to religions whic

The world is going down the tube. Sin has become politically correct. People flock to religions which offer imaginary false gods, who will tolerate their sin, and deaden their conscience. No-one is immune, even me. There was a time when I would welcome all of this as a good thing, but I now have a problem. My spirit was brought to life by the living and true God, and the world now gives me a feeling of nausea, overlaid by a feeling of concern about inevitable doom of those not spiritually alive. Last rounds, ladies and gentlemen. it’s closing time.

All this time God screams at the world that it is fallen, and offers salvation in the death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ. The world is not listening. Now many “acts of God” are needed to wake people up. How many floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, epidemics, famines, and wars must happen to make people see? Or maybe these things are just warnings to be recognized only by the elect of God?

What should I do? I share the Gospel but no-one believes it. Some say they believe it but it is obvious that they do not. Is it possible to be born again and have no desire to read the Bible, worship God, fellowship with the brothers and sisters in Christ?

There are two options to take. Stop caring about the result and just minister to the lost in obedience but without really knowing what will happen. The other is better but harder to find. I need to know what God is doing, and join in His work. I need to join Him in His work, and not improve on mine. I need to listen to the silent voice of God.

I am going on a retreat sometime in December, in Tagaytay, a tranquil place near Metro-Manila, Philippines, next to Taal volcano. I need to discern God’s will. That means being disconnected from the internet, TV, radio, books, entertainment, and even Study Bibles. Just God, the Bible, and me, for 5 days, alone. I really do not know what will happen. I am scared that nothing will happen. I am also scared that something might happen. Since this scary feeling can only come from Satan I am resolved to proceed with this plan. I leave it all to God. I really do not know what to do. I really am unable to commit the stupid mistake of recommending a solution to God. Please pray for me that I hear the silent voice of God, and obey what He says.

I took a walk in the woods with my son and his friend. I talk about my plans for a retreat and other random stuff. Here it is. Enjoy! Be strong in the Lord, who is coming soon! After all, it is written…

Was that the silent voice of God just then? I wish I knew for sure…

God bless,

George

‘Argues for vaccination as the one sure way to combat this disease before it strikes’

Four patients at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC, at least five persons in a hospital in Wales, and a father in Quebec, Canada have become infected with an apparently mutated strain of H1N1 that is resistant to Tamiflu (oseltamivir), the leading antiviral of choice to treat influenza in lieu of having a vaccine.

Meanwhile, Norwegian health authorities reported a potentially significant mutation in H1N1 that could be responsible for the severest symptoms in those infected by the strain – especially persons most at risk to the virus – which authorities are monitoring carefully because of concerns that it, too, might become resistant to Tamiflu, and, possibly, other antivirals if they become as widely administered as oseltamivir.

I’m freaking out… The swine flu has hit my wife’s workplace. She hasn’t been infected yet, but I’m scared that she’ll only carry the thing back home with her and infect me. I’m in the risk group of it being fatal due to my asthma. I wouldn’t normally be scared, but I almost dared the swine flu to get me. I always said how the news exaggerate these things and how nobody is going to die. At least not anyone you know. The moment I heard about the workers who’d been home due to the swine flu, I started to get the symptoms. As a black belt hypochondriac, I am aware that sometimes I might be imagining things, but I curse the day I said that the H1N1 is a pussy of an epidemic. I went to bed early, thinking I might get a daily routine going that would involve me actually being awake during the day. I slept like a log for a few hours until my wife got in bed with me. She began to pop my zits and scratch my scabs until I was wide awake and unable to fall back to sleep. So I got up, and here I am… A few weeks of blogging, stats showing that people are reading and a fatwa hasn’t been placed on my head, so things are looking up. I still haven’t finished my book, which has a deadline on New Year’s Eve. The deadline is set so that I can start pushing it on January 1st to agents and publishers.

Domestic violence is an epidemic in the United States. Domestic violence victims and domestic violen

Domestic violence is an epidemic in the United States. Domestic violence victims and domestic violence perpetrators can be anyone. In domestic violence not only does it involve two people it involves the entire family. The people involved can be of any gender. Unlike our stereotypes, domestic violence happens to the wealthy, educated, and even soccer moms. “Violence is inflicted primarily by men; most men have been socialized into masculine identity. "(Wood, 2009)." In the U.S., every twelve to eight seconds a woman is beaten by a man, four women per day are reported beaten to death, and women are six hundred percent more likely to be assaulted by an intimate partner than men . "(Wood, 2009). Statistically, domestic violence knows no forehead, socio-economic education, racial or religious. Domestic violence is learned and can be ignorant, it is important to identify forms ofabuse, why women remain available programs and changes that can be done to reduce the statistics on the increase for future generations, because, unlike the mistreatment and abuse of domestic violence elderly is not imposed by the laws of Illinois. How report domestic violence is learned? "Most domestic violence is caused by the formation and strengthening, rather than by biology and genetics." (Farmer, 2007).

Behavior is learned by observing others who have abused them –presence or themselves were victims of violence. "Studies have shown that almost half of men have grown up in abusive families where the father or stepfather was violent." (Farmer, 2007). A child can learn to be aggressive as a child. For example, in competitive sports that boys play soccer play hard, endure physical pain and injuries and to confront their opponents. (Woods, 2009). In addition, the emotion he shows is obsolete. This may be linked to violent behavior toward women, children, animals, which are becoming more mature. According to Turning Point, Inc., "Men's violence against women in intimate relationships is a social problem tolerated and supported by the customs and mores of a society. Pornographic videos, magazines and websites are learning grounds that teach that women are not worthy of respect and value as sexual objects for men. Most video and computer games have become an important source of training for children and youth. ManyMessages sex roles of men there, like aggressive males and control with the value of women in their sexual attractions. Often children learn are not responsible for their actions. Aggression in children is increasingly treated as a medical problem. The boys were diagnosed and treated with drugs instead of May credentials that have been traumatized and exposed to violence and abuse at home.

Domestic violence is repeated because it works and whythere are often legal consequences. The fact that domestic violence is a learned behavior which means that authors can not be changed. Most people can not learn to fly if there is sufficient justification to change this behavior. "(Farmer, 2007, page 2). In our society there are many forms of violent behavior that includes "physical, verbal, emotional, sexual and visual brutality is inflicted disproportionately or exclusively for members of one sex." (Wood, 2009 page285). The first form of physical violence. Men, women physically, abuse by hitting, biting, waiting, pushing or sexual potency. The woman who is regarded by society as the lowest and most worthy of being abused than male perpetrators are regarded as strong, aggressive and control. The second form of verbal abuse. This type of violation can be made by a man to intimidate his female partner. Bullying can include verbally demean, humiliate, ignore, disregard,"being told what to do, or say" you're fat, ugly, or stupid. " Or words used may be "No one will ever know that you want, and you'll never be nothing."

The third form of abuse by men is emotional. This can include the male partner to comment on the women leave toxic guilt, injured or traumatized and scared to take all measures necessary to overcome the situation. For example, use your voice and body language to indicate that the female is stupid, ignorant, incompetent or defective. A statement which is often used is "In your opinion, who are you? According to Julia T. Wood on page 289 of screws, at least twenty-eight per cent and perhaps fifty per cent of women victims of domestic violence which is physical, mental, emotional, verbal or economic power used by partners one against one other partner in a romantic relationship. "(Wood, 2009, page 289).

Why do women stay in any relationship in which violence isthis? There are so many reasons why women choose to stay in their relationships, and abuse. For example, lack of income and education. The husbands have full control to leave the job of a spouse or money. Women are isolated and have no relationships outside including family members. The abuser repeatedly questioned whether the spouse is in and to take account of their fate any time of day. Many women feel trapped to staysense of relationship, as there is no escape. Women stay because they fear reprisals and do not know where to go and feel safe. They feel, without a new identity to be found. This is particularly true when children are involved.

Women feel guilty for removing the child's father. Finally, women justify the abuse, saying: "I won," if only I was not angry "or" if only I had done what he asked me to do "I could not beat. Many women consider it their duty to stay because of their religion "submit" to their spouses. Some women are kept in the environment to be a people pleaser especially their parents. They know nothing better than to marry and to submit to their husbands. In chapter twelve of lives based on sex at 284, "four million American women suffered a serious assault committed by a partner during an average period of twelve months, and at least three women are murdered by their husbands or theirchildren every day. "(Woods, 2007, page 284). Western society recognizes domestic violence with at least four phases of violence. Gendered Lives by Julia T. Woods on page 293 talks about the cycle of domestic violence and the four stages. They are identified as tension, explosion, remorse and phases of their honeymoon. The two phases that help victims stay because the guilt phase and the honeymoon. At this stage the abuser will say no remorsemaintain the relationship as "I am truly sorry and that he never promised to" Do It Again "or desperately say" I want to help, "not the end. During their trip wedding, the author feels guilty for their actions and usually the victim to buy a present to compensate for their behavior.

The impressive number of gender-based violence is an epidemic at national level which should be taken more seriously by society. Violence against women is now at home still on the rise withconcern for the health of women. Thirty years ago battered women are no other options, as a place to go or not sites that offer help and assistance. Today, there are places to visit as shelters, churches and aid agencies to victims of domestic violence. These shelters not only provide a place to stay, but assistance with orders, money , lawyers, and new life perspectives. The company is facing abuse by men, and helping to educate the public, especially the futuregeneration in order to prevent further violent attacks. The solutions seem simple, but we as a nation need to reassess how we treat criminals in our society and how we define and prevent it.

We must learn as parents, to be effective, spouses, and teachers, without resorting to violent behavior in conflict resolution with our loved ones and those we communicate. To be able to reduce the statistics of violence between the sexes is important to identifyphases, characteristics and types of abuse. While expressing our opinions can make a difference or arrest the abuser in the home or signs or when someone you know is being abused. Each community can help by volunteering in their town or across the raising of speaking against violence.

All women are prone to be victims of domestic violence, unless the whole society chooses to speak. Statistics can be changed nowCurrent location against domestic violence? Yes, speaking of laws can help, because if the laws and punishment against offenders in May become more stringent to prevent further domestic violence globally. In today's culture, domestic violence against women is not simply the subject of an economic category, it belongs to everyone and as a society to make changes that will make the current statistics less .

The H1N1 Swine Flu virus knows no borders, has no boundaries, and has absolutely no respect for religious or cultural traditions.

This year at the annual Hajj to Mecca, Four foreign pilgrims have died of swine flu, the Saudi Health Ministry announced on Saturday.

The Saudi Arabia Health Ministry said none of the four foreign victims had been vaccinated against the H1N1 virus, as has been recommended by The Health Ministry.

An official statement released by the ministry said all had underlying health problems, including cancer and respiratory illness, AFP news agency reported.

Three of the victims died in Medina and one in Mecca.

http://www.arabnews.com/?page=1&section=0&article=128688&d=22&m=11&y=200Over

The BBC is reporting that….up to three million Muslims from around the world take part in the holy pilgrimage every year, but health officials have expressed fears that it could provide a breeding ground for the virus.

Authorities had tried to prepare for any outbreaks by installing thermal cameras at airports and sea terminals, deploying 15,000 additional health workers and ensuring hundreds of extra beds were available.

The Hajj (Arabic: حج‎ Ḥaǧǧ) is a pilgrimage to Mecca. It is currently the largest annual pilgrimage in the world,[1] and is the fifth pillar of Islam, a moral obligation that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so. The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to Allah (God).[2] The pilgrimage occurs from the 7th to 13th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hajj)

The Health Minister has reported that there are 16 other people that have been diagnosed with swine flu and four remain in hospital in “critical condition”.

He added 12 others had recovered following treatment.

The Saudi government has recommended the elderly, pregnant women, people with chronic diseases and children skip the Hajj this year.

The Saudi government has said all pilgrims need a certificate of vaccination before they can apply for a visa.

This is real people, and this disease is spreading worldwide,at a rapid pace.

I encourage everyone to get a H1N1 swine flu shot as soon as you can.The reports of any side effects are exaggerated, and will cause millions of people to perish from the lack of the vaccine.

Any paranoia surrounding any alledged complications from the shot are totally unsubstantiated, and if those people out there insist on not receiving the vaccine, then we as a society should only expect more mounting mass casualties from the swine flu, as exhibited this weekend, unfortunately in Mecca.

If it can happen in Mecca, it can happen anywhere.

Please everyone, wash your hands, and go get the shot.

The US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, has just signed a decree granting

The US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, has just signed a decree granting vaccine makers total legal immunity from any lawsuits that result from any new “Swine Flu” vaccine. Moreover, the $7 billion US Government fast-track program to rush vaccines onto the market in time for the Autumn flu season is being done without even normal safety testing. Is there another agenda at work in the official WHO hysteria campaign to declare so-called H1N1 virus—which has yet to be rigorously scientifically isolated, characterized and photographed with an electron microscope—the scientifically accepted procedure—a global “pandemic” threat?

The current official panic campaign over alleged Swine Flu danger is rapidly taking on the dimensions of a George Orwell science fiction novel. The document signed by Sebelius grants immunity to those making a swine flu vaccine, under the provisions of a 2006 law for public health emergencies.

Not so sage SAGE

That is once the WHO in Geneva, on recommendation of the WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group on Immunizations, declared H1N1 to be Phase 6 or Pandemic, automatic emergency health response programs could be activated even in countries such as Germany where reported outbreaks of even “suspected” H1N1 can be counted to date on the fingers of slightly more than one hand.

The WHO’s SAGE is also worth scrutiny. Its Chairman since 2005 has been the UK Director of Immunization at the British Department of Health, Dr David Salisbury. In the 1980’s Salisbury reportedly drew major fire for backing a massive vaccination of children with a multiple MMR vaccine manufactured by the predecessor company of GlaxoSmithKline. That vaccine was pulled off the market in Japan after significant numbers of children developed adverse reactions to the vaccine and the Japanese government was forced to pay significant compensation to the victims. In Sweden the MMR vaccine of GlaxoSmithKline was removed after scientists linked it to outbreaks of Crohn’s disease. Apparently that had little impact on WHO SAGE chairman Salisbury.

According to one independent UK investigator, Alan Golding, who obtained Freedom of Information documents on the case, in “1986 Trivirix, an MMR compound containing the Mumps Urabe strain AM-9, was introduced in Canada to replace MMR I. Concerns regarding the introduction of MMR in the UK are recorded in the minutes of the Joint Working Party of the British Paediatric Association and the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) Liaison Group on June 26th of that year. Such concerns were soon to prove well grounded, as reports began to come in of an increased incidence of aseptic meningitis in vaccinated individuals. Ultimately, all MMR vaccines containing the Urabe strain of mumps were withdrawn in Canada in early 1988. This was before Urabe containing vaccines were licenced by the Department of Health for use in the UK…”

The report adds, “Smith-Kline—French, the pharmaceutical company who became Smith-Kline-Beecham and were involved in UK manufacture at that time, were concerned about these safety issues and were reluctant to obtain a UK license for their Urabe-containing vaccines. As a result of their ‘concern’ that children might be seriously damaged by one of their products, they requested that the UK government indemnify them against possible legal action that might be taken as a result of ‘losses’ associated with the vaccine, which by then was known to carry significant risk to health. The UK government, advised by Professor Salisbury and representatives from the Department of Health, in it’s enthusiasm to get a cheap MMR onto the market, agreed to this request.”

Today the same Dr Salisbury is advocating global proliferation of untested H1N1 vaccines, also manufactured by the same firm, now called GlaxoSmithKline.

The last phoney Swine Flu Disaster

The last time the US Government faced a new swine flu virus was in 1976. Thousands filed claims contending they suffered side effects from the shots. This time, the government has taken steps to prevent any possible legal remedy should thousands of US citizens suffer severe complications as a result of being given untested vaccines.

In 1976 President Gerald Ford, facing a difficult re-election campaign, was advised by the head of the CDC, David Sencer, to launch a mass national vaccination. As today with H1N1 Swine Flu, Sencer also used the scare of the alleged 1918 flu pandemic. Notably, some scientific researchers maintain that the deaths during the flu wave of 1918-1919, in the aftermath of the ghastly First World War, came not from any virus but from the governmental campaigns of mass vaccination against “Spanish Flu.” Interestingly, the Rockefeller University and Foundation was in the middle of that event as well. (Rockefeller Family is part of the New World Order & World Banking Cartel of the Global Elite.)

Cases of what was then called swine flu were found in soldiers at Fort Dix, N.J. in 1976, including one death. That death, whose true cause is in dispute as the soldier, sick with influenza was put on a forced march despite and fell dead, was used by Sencer to convince Ford to launch one of the most infamous public health fiascos in US history, forcing Sencer’s resignation as CDC head. Federal officials vaccinated 40 million Americans during a national campaign. A pandemic never materialized, but thousands who got the shots filed injury claims, as they contracted a paralyzing condition called Guillain-Barre Syndrome or other side effects. At least 25 people died after receiving the vaccine died and 500 developed Guillain-Barre syndrome, an inflammation of the nervous system which can cause paralysis and be fatal. The US Government was forced to pay damages after vaccination victims made it a national scandal. In the end the 1976 Swine Flu vaccine proved far worse than the disease.

Sencer was fired in 1977 for the fiasco but by then the damage had already been done.

No Safety Test? Don’t worry, be happy…

The story gets worse. Now that the Obama Administration has signed a document of immunity from legal prosecution, the FDA in the United States and UK health authorities have decided to let Big Pharma put vaccine products onto the market before any tests of the possible harmful side effects of the vaccines are even known.

The first doses of swine flu vaccine will be given to the public before full data on its safety and effectiveness become available. The untested “pandemic” vaccines will be spread over two doses in a higher quantity, and one brand reportedly will contain a chemical additive, an adjuvant, to make it “go further,” dramatically potentially increasing the risk of side-effects.

Children will be among those first in line for the shots and may get the vaccine more than a month before trial results are received.

In the UK the government’s National Health Service, NHS, has been ordered to plan for a worst-case scenario in which swine flu might cause 65,000 deaths over the coming winter, including several thousand deaths among children.

The British Government has placed advance orders for 132 million doses of vaccine with two manufacturers, GlaxoSmithKline and Baxter, who have licensed “in advance” three “core” vaccines in preparation for a pandemic, conveniently enough even though we are told by WHO and epidemiologists that we cannot prepare in advance for what could be a more ominous mutation of the currently very mild H1N1 problem.

Curiously enough, a full year before any reported case of the current alleged H1N1, the major pharmaceutical company, Baxter, filed for a patent for H1N1 vaccine: Baxter Vaccine Patent Application US 2009/0060950 A1. Their application states, “the composition or vaccine comprises more than one antigen…..such as influenza A and influenza B in particular selected from of one or more of the human H1N1, H2N2, H3N2, H5N1, H7N7, H1N2, H9N2, H7N2, H7N3, H10N7 subtypes, of the pig flu H1N1, H1N2, H3N1 and H3N2 subtypes, of the dog or horse flu H7N7, H3N8 subtypes or of the avian H5N1, H7N2, H1N7, H7N3, H13N6, H5N9, H11N6, H3N8, H9N2, H5N2, H4N8, H10N7, H2N2, H8N4, H14N5, H6N5, H12N5 subtypes.”

The application further states, “Suitable adjuvants can be selected from mineral gels, aluminium hydroxide, surface active substances, lysolecithin, pluronic polyols, polyanions or oil emulsions such as water in oil or oil in water, or a combination thereof. Of course the selection of the adjuvant depends on the intended use. E.g. toxicity may depend on the destined subject organism and can vary from no toxicity to high toxicity.”

With no legal liability, could it be that Baxter is preparing to sell hundreds of millions of doses containing highly toxic aluminium hydroxide as adjuvant? Perhaps it is time to demand that all leading officials of WHO, SAGE and CDC, the US Obama Administration, Cabinet officials and members of Congress who voted the $7 billion H1N1 emergency funds and who have gone along with the declaration of pharmaceutical company immunity from subsequent prosecution for damage from their products. The same should apply as well for other national health bodies demanding its citizens take the H1N1 vaccine from GlaxoSmithKline or Baxter to see if it is really safe.

And WHO stopped even tracking H1N1

Another indication that the world is being taken for colossal suckers in the entire WHO Swine Flu scare scenario, the WHO itself, the world body entrusted to monitor outbreaks of so-called pandemics or even epidemics worldwide, has just decided to stop tracking Swine Flu or H1N1 Influenza A as they prefer to name it now, so as not to offend Smithfield Foods and other industrialized pig CAFO producers.

The World Health Organization in a “briefing note” posted on their Web site posted the baffling notice that they would no longer track outbreaks of H1N1. The last WHO update, issued July 6, showed 94,512 confirmed cases in 122 countries, with 429 deaths. The WHO apparently claims that the numbers of laboratory-confirmed cases were actually meaningless.

The briefing note said countries would still be asked to report their first few confirmed cases. It also said countries should watch for clusters of fatalities, which could indicate the virus had mutated to a more lethal form. Other “signals to be vigilant for,” it said, were spikes in school absenteeism and surges in hospital visits. The Atlanta CDC has also agreed to the WHO count drop. Dr. Michael T. Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota, admits that the existing tests to confirm H1N1 Influenza A are not even certain, but rather hit-or-miss. “Bad measures can be worse than no measures at all,” he stated. So the WHO has decided to drop tests that anyway did not give a scientific picture of who had H1N1 or not, and as well they have decided to drop counting any test results or cases of H1n1 around the world with the comment that “we can assume almost all cases are H1N1 Swine Flu. This is science on which basis we are told to vaccinate our young? Whoah there…Not with our children.

Contingency Planning For Lean Operations – Part I

Lean operations are driven by effective planning and efficient execution of core activities to ensure optimal performance is achieved and sustained. The very nature of lean requires extreme attention to detail through all phases of planning and execution. Upstream operations simply cannot tolerate any disruptions in product supply or process flow without the risk of incurring significant downtime costs or other related losses.

Effective risk management methods, contingency plans, and loss prevention strategy are critical components of successful operations management in a lean operation. Risk management and preventing disruptions is the subject of contingency planning and requires the participation of all team members.

Successful contingency planning assures the establishment of an effective communication strategy and identification of core activities and actions required. Contingency plans may require alternative methods, processes, systems, sources, or services and must be verified, validated, and tested prior to implementation.

Understanding and assessing the potential risks to your operation is the basis for contingency planning with the objective to minimize or eliminate potential losses.

Inventory represents the most basic form of contingency planning. Safety stock or buffer inventories are typically used to minimize the effects of equipment downtime or disruptions in the supply chain.

The levels of inventory to maintain are dependent on a number factors including Lead Time, Value, Carrying Cost, Transit Time (Distance), Shelf Life, Minimum Order Quantities, Payment Terms, and Obsolescence.

Why is this relevant?

Material and Labour represent two key resources that may be influenced by external factors that are beyond the control of any company policy or practice. Internally controlled or managed resources such facilities, equipment, and tooling are less susceptible to unknown elements. For the purposes of this discussion, we will examine Labour in a little more detail.

The H1N1 virus, originally known as the Swine Flu, is the latest potential health pandemic since the outbreak of SARS only a few years ago. The government has been struggling to organize mass immunization clinics and to engage the media to aid in the cause. In the meantime, the potential impact of the H1N1 virus on your operation remains to be an unknown.

Experts have commented to the media that the lessons from the SARS outbreak have still not been learned. One would expect that past practices would have already been adopted into new best practices from our experiences with other similar events in our history.

Government agencies at all levels (Federal, Provincial, and local) have mismanaged the activities required to procure and distribute the vaccine, and failed to provide an effective communication and immunization strategy to ensure the risk to public health was minimized and the at the very least understood.

The lack of coordination and accountability for the success or failure of the communication strategy, procurement and distribution of the vaccine, and other related activities are strong indicators that the planning process did not consider the infrastructure requirements and relationships needed between levels of government.

The lack of an effective communication strategy introduced confusion and speculation in the media and the general public. Mass education only seemed to become more aggressive as incidents of severe H1N1 complications and related deaths were reported in the media.

If this really was a pandemic event, many operations today would (and may still) be adversely affected due to direct or indirect (supply chain) labour shortages. Do you have contingency plans in place to address this concern?

It could be argued that “if we are affected to this extent, then our customers will be as well.” This is not necessarily true unless your customers and / or suppliers are located in the same immediate area or region of your business.

People travel all the time, whether they are commuting to work from out-of-town or traveling to or arriving from a foreign country on business. The source of exposure is beyond your immediate control.

What other elements can directly impact labour? We will explore some of these in our next post. In the meantime, keep your hands washed and remember to cough into your sleeve.

Until Next Time – STAY Lean!

Unexpected and Appreciated – Uncommon Courtesy: This morning, a person cut into the drive through lane ahead of us – not realizing the gap in the line was there for thru traffic. Recognizing the error in drive through etiquette and to make amends, we were pleasantly surprised by the ”free” coffee at the pick up window. Thank you ladies!

Smoky souvenirs

The man in front of me was very elegant, had impeccable manners, if only he had been smoking less. His corner office in the Tokyo HQ of his corporation, was indeed slowly delivering to its occupants, including me, an unbreathable cocktail of fine dusts and nicotine-tar loaded particles that probably still stains my lungs today.

We had been discussing how my company (Riskope) could deliver to his organization emergency planning, crisis management in that difficult time, during the 2003 SARS outbreak. They had operations all over the world, including China.

The green tea, brought in by a very nice secretary, kneeling down in front of us in compliance with long to die traditions, was helping me to endure the chemical attack. I was at my third cup, and the man was telling me how each one of their expatriate managers and their families in continental China was critical for operations.

When I asked if they had crisis management/emergency planning in place the man replied swiftly: “No”, and sipped another little green tea, lighting another sigarette.

I immediately asked him, frankly mesmerized: “…But, what will you do, if the worse happens and your managers and/or their families fall sick there?”

The reply came down as a dagger: “…Then we will send in the second wave!”

What has changed between 2003 and today?

Well, as far as I can see, not much: there are still organizations who sit totally unprepared and will decide later what to do, when, may be, the bulk of their personnel will be home infected with the new flu.

That’s not precisely the way a responsible corporation/manager prepares to a very likely hazard which may bring in serious risks!

An epidemic is a crisis: a crisis like another, and “survival techniques/rules” exist.

The first step is to systematically anticipate and respond to threats. Crisis-prepared companies suffer fewer disasters and recover more quickly than crisis-prone firms. They also stay in business longer and are more profitable.

To be one of those long term survivors recognize the barriers preventing foreseeing risk scenarios:

psychological biases, information silos, prestige and arrogance.

Develop formal risk assesments and crisis/emergency plans.

Then, if and when risks become reality, follow your pre-defined plans, contain the crisis by acting decisively and quickly.

As a reminder: the SARS Outbreak (2003)

SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) was a pneumonia like illness that claimed more than 50 victims across Asia. In February 2003, this disease spread to Hong Kong: of the 1,755 people who were infected, 299 died.

The disease raised questions about tech companies’ operations in Hong Kong, similar to the issues raised by an earthquake that shook Taiwan in 1999. That quake severely disrupted manufacturing at the Hsinchu industrial park south of Taipei, and in the process created shortages of graphics chips, memory chips and other components necessary for building personal computers and laptops. Personal computer makers took a indirect but rather significant hit from that quake.

As Asian authorities scrambled to contain the outbreak of SARS, citizens in the region reportedly turned to the Internet and mobile communications to protest public health policy and spread word of traditional Asian remedies for the deadly virus (Maunder et al., 2003).

The SARS outbreak in Toronto, which began on Mar. 7, 2003, resulted in extraordinary public health and infection control measures.

In a 4-week period, 19 individuals developed SARS, including 11 health care workers. The hospital’s response included establishing a leadership command team and a SARS isolation unit, implementing mental health support interventions for patients and staff, overcoming problems with logistics and communication, and overcoming resistance to directives. Patients with SARS reported fear, loneliness, boredom and anger, and they worried about the effects of quarantine and contagion on family members and friends. They experienced anxiety about fever and the effects of insomnia. Staff was adversely affected by fear of contagion and of infecting family, friends and colleagues. Caring for health care workers as patients and colleagues was emotionally difficult. Uncertainty and stigmatization were prominent themes for both staff and patients (Skowronski et al., 2005).

You’re all idiots. If you have spent more than a few minutes worrying about swine flu you ARE

You’re all idiots. If you have spent more than a few minutes worrying about swine flu you ARE an idiot. That’s because it only takes a few minutes to look up the symptoms, mortality rate, and treatment to realize that it’s no different from the common flu (which kills way more people) and going back to whatever it is you were doing, which was probably turning off CNN and canceling your cable subscription.

In fact, worrying at all makes you an idiot. Why worry? Cowards worry and there is a 100% overlap between people who worry and people who regularly make cowardly decisions. That’s why natural disasters kick so much ass.

You never really know when they’re going to hit, so you might as well let go and stop being such a scared idiot all the time. You’ll cross the bridge of death when you get to it. Time to start taking risks! Quit your job. Quit answering your boss’ calls during your time off. Go do something with your life! Jesus!

Which leads me to why swine flu is stupid. If I were to worry about anything – and I don’t – swine flu would be pretty near the bottom of the list. Here’s a list of things that are a higher priority of things to worry about:

Dying alone

Not getting recognized for your genius.

Settling for a shitty job.

Getting married.

Anyways, there is NO difference between swine flu and the common flu. Quit closing schools down every time someone gets swine flu, morons!

The problem isn’t swine flu, but people talking about it. Remember SARS? More bullshit. Fewer than 800 people died from it world wide. Yet the news networks prattled on about it for months. Now the slow news cycle lends itself to talking about swine flu and nausea even though there’s already a vaccine for it.

Oh, didn’t know there was a vaccine? Yeah there has been a vaccine for it in the works almost since the beginning, rendering this non-issue even more irrelevant.

I will never take the swine flu vaccine because I already have it: it’s called immune system.
