Cara waked up two hours before her first class. She sighed lazily trying to figure out what to do next. Finally, after spacing out for a while she started to look for the things she’ll use for later on classes. As she checked the notebooks, she stumbled upon something. Looking on it a little smile formed on her lips. Ahhh…memories. She shook her head to bring her normal thoughts No, I should not think of the past. I should forget whatever happened in the past. She’s looking on a past picture of hers and her ex-boyfriend taken on their second date. She told to herself that she already forgot everything in the past. Okay, she was lying to herself and to everyone, obviously, because she’s now holding the evidence that she could not move on with her life. Cara hid the picture, irritated, back to where she found it and prepared for her class.

Cara arrived at the university early but even before classes starts a dilemma took place. She’s a freshman and she’s not familiar around in the university. Good just good. First day of class and you’ll be late Cara. Why didn’t I visit this university to familiarize myself around? Now, where the hell should I go? She asked every person she passed on her way for some directions and none of them have given the right one. “Are all people in here idiots? Even the guards do not know this stupid classroom.” She murmured as she continued to walk annoyed with all the people around her. At last, after hours of searching, she found her destination.

The laboratory is just right to hold thirty to forty students. That time, they won’t have any formal lessons yet, just introductions for the subject. Sitting in front of Cara, is a petite girl, smiling and looking at her amazed. “Hi! What’s your name? You are pretty and tall and you have white complexion. Are you a model? By the way, I’m Piin.” She handed her hand to Cara for a shake hands. “I’m Cara and I’m not a model.” She simply answered and took her hands.”Oh! Nice meeting you Cara!” Cara knew that she’s a bit annoyed with Piin but somehow it lessen her boredom and made the last minutes quite fun. They might get along well because they share some hobbies like dancing and photography. First class ended and it is time for lunch.

At the canteen, Cara and Piin ate their luches while getting to know each other. “Hmmm. Cara will you join the Student Council as a staffer? I’ll be joining it too since my cousin is one of the members. It’s just that we need manpower for some upcoming events. Are you interested?” Cara was about to answer when suddenly Piin squealed that made Cara stunned for a while. “Oh, shoot! What happened to you? Why did you just scream?” Cara asked still stunned. “Because I just saw the heart-rob of this university passing by. Oh my god! I could die of happiness just seeing his angelic and cute smile.” Piin answered with sparkles in her eyes. “Oh boy stuff. I should have known about it.” Cara took a big bite on her cheeseburger. “You’re not interested with boys aren’t you? If you’ll just see Jiyong singing and dancing for sure you’ll fall for his charisma too like the other girls here.” Cara dazed for a while. Did she hear that right? Did she just hear Jiyong? Nah. I’m 100% sure that it’s not Jiyong probably some Korean boys too studying here. It could not be him. I know that he is not studying here. Also, he’s a bad singer and dancer or is he? But what is this uncomfortable feeling and at the same time, a bit of joy. Her heart rumbled, like there’s an animal’s stomping on it, when she heard his name. It’s beating faster just like before when they were still together. She could still not recovered from what she just heard when Piin abruptly tapped her arms and pointed someone behind her.

I don’t know how many people have waited for this episode, or have seened it already but I’m going to post it up anyway! Invincle Youth Episode 1 is finally subbed! In this show, 7 girls from different girl group are put together to work out in the country. This show is really interesting, you get to see Sunny catching chicken, Yuri being the dork she is, and girls from Kara, 4 Minutes, Secret, Brown Eye Girls, and T-ara! I just found out that episode 2 is subbed too, so i’ll post the video here too. I haven’t watched that episode yet, so my review on it will be at the end after I find time to watch it x]

Have You Seen Heroes: Season 4 Episode 2 – Jump, Push, Fall?

Episode Synopsis:

Peter returns to his job as a paramedic, saving people with the help of Mohinder’s abilities. In Japan, Hiro feels that he is not in control of his power and believes himself to be dying. A egoistical and super-charged Sylar goes to the Company to kill all the leaders, and inadvertently releases 12 super-powered criminals from the place’s notorious Level 5 prison block during a fight with Elle. Peter, trapped in the body of one of the criminals, is set free as well and is forced to team up with a group for a crime spree. Elsewhere, Tracy learns that she has the power to super-freeze anyone and anything wild dealing with a hounded tabloid reporter seeking any dirt on her and the shady Govenor Maldon whom are continuing to groom Peter for a position in the U.S. Congress.

Have You Seen Heroes: Season 1 Episode 2 – Chapter Two 'Don't Look Back'?

Episode Synopsis:

When Nikki wakes up, she sees the two criminals dead in her garage. She brings her son and finds a brand new Cadillac in her name and the bodies in the trunk, with instructions and a map to bury the corpses in the desert. Peter awakes in the hospital and his mother tells him that his father was depressed and committed suicide. When Peter decides to jump from the terrace of his building, his brother Nathan discloses that both can fly. Hiro is teleported to the Times Square and finds a comic book written by Isaac Mendez telling his saga. He goes to Isaac studio, finds him dead and is arrested by the police. In Los Angeles, the Police Officer Matt Parkman telepathically hears the voice of a child in a murder scene and is arrested as a suspect. Claire hides her heroic rescue in the fire and her evil stepfather discloses her abilities in her stolen tape.

“There is No Normal Anymore”

“You still don’t understand humanity.”

And neither does this show.

After a fairly solid pilot that did a good job of making this premise seem like it could be a good one for a television series if not actually demonstrating much in the way of examples of that potential, “There is No Normal Anymore” is the sort of failure that these types of genre shows (including FlashForward) tend to fall into. What goes wrong is nothing to do with the show’s premise and more to do with the fact that the writers seem unwilling to fully embrace that premise from the get go. There are interesting elements in these stories, but as a whole the writing and for that matter the performances just aren’t living up to that interest.

The episode tries to play up a sense of paranoia, but by ignoring the macro level paranoia in favour of the micro level paranoia the show becomes far less interesting than its premise. And, unfortunately for the show, nothing in the writing or in the episode’s forward momentum has me thinking this will change at any time in the near future.

There is a moment in the episode where Father Jack and Erica are both being interrogated, and in both instances they’re being forced to talk around what happened to them. It’s a really good idea for a scene, as both of them have legitimate reason to be questioned (Jack regarding the death in his Parish and Erica with the disappearance of her partner), but the problem was that there was never an adequate sense of tension. Perhaps it’s that everyone says absolutely every thought in their heads, which makes these scenes more breathless than claustrophobic. If the show was trying to create a sense of danger in those scenes, it failed. The dialogue was stiff, the direction decided that claustrophobia is defined by having people stand REALLY close to one another when talking, and the tension just wasn’t working.

The interesting part of the episode was the fact that the Vs were busy trying to guarantee diplomatic ties with the world so that they would be able to move freely within their borders and even gets Visas. There’s an entire episode to be found here where we focus more on the Second Estate, seeing how the world’s leadership makes their decision. I hate to play the “Torchwood: Children of Earth” card, but that miniseries was so great because of how it took an alien invasion and have us the political perspective. Here, we have the 1st Estate (the Clergy), the 3rd Estate (Common People, in the form of Tyler), and the Fourth Estate (in the form of the media coverage), but missing the political side in an episode that discussed an expressly political issue felt strange. It’s something that the episode, and the series, is missing as a whole.

The only way this works is if the new diplomatic position of the Vs really matters, or we get to see its consequences. However, in the other storylines, this never really came to fruition. Ryan’s journey to heal his arm was meandering and purposeless, and Tyler’s failure to be a good peace ambassador had no connection (even though one might have been there) to the larger V story. The media story was the episode’s best because it tapped into that story, but it also ended up reducing it to the idea that in some way one media source would be able to sway public opinion and in turn manipulate the government’s decision. By not showing us the government’s decision, the show is robbing us of the most interesting part of the story, and we don’t know these characters well enough for that to be worthwhile.

If the episode had told us something more about the characters, then perhaps it would have worked, but the episode didn’t do it. Elizabeth Mitchell was trying hard, but Erica’s interactions with her boss, with Jack, and especially with her son were shallow and nondescript. There is no real identity to this character, no reason why we should be following her more than anyone else. Father Jack is a more interesting question in terms of his religious affiliation, but he was so worried about really vague morals of “doing the right thing” and fearing the dreaded task force (Oh no, not a TASK FORCE) that he was never an individual. It’s one thing for Tyler to be uninteresting, because his teenage desires are meant to be at least simple (if not as boring as they are). However, we’re supposed to want to (at the end of the episode) watch Erica and Jack search one-by-one through a list of potential sources to slowly build an army, and I don’t see how these characters are going to achieve this.

It could be said that there is a show to be had here, but I don’t think that the series is in a position to find it. The few glimpses we got inside of the V politics were more interesting by half than anything we saw amongst humanity, and that’s something that’s a problem when so much of the show is going to be spent on the other side of this hero/Other binary.

Cultural Observations

• The writing was terrible throughout, don’t get me wrong, but I actually think the direction was worse: outside of the wide expanse of the V shots and the lighting therein, it was not setting any sort of consistent dramatic tone.
• Alan Tudyk appears to be back as the partner, and there’s a show I want to watch: seeing how a V reintegrates into society when people have discovered who he is. We knew the lizard inside didn’t die, but that dilemma is actually fascinating and far more unique than “OMG anyone could be a visitor,” which didn’t even do anything but make paranoia a theme.
• Morena Baccarin? Still the best thing about this show, although that can’t last forever.
• EDIT: Forgot to mention that if they make Rekha Sharma a V, the casting department deserves to go out the airlock.

Episode Synopsis:

Clark’s first day on the job at the Daily Planet begins with a bus exploding right outside the building, which leads him and Lois on a trail of someone who might be infected by kryptonite. Chloe finds a runaway teenage girl, named Bette, whom Chloe suspects is involved in the explosion when Bette (whom will later become the fire-starter Plastique) has the meteor-rock power of pyrokinisis. In the meantime, Chloe also meets a local medic, named Davis Bloom, who takes an interest in her, even though she’s engaged to Jimmy Olsen. Elsewhere, Tess meets Clark for the first time as she takes over the Daily Planet in Lex’s absence and immediately senses something not right about him.

Despite Kara’s appearance, a despondent Clark decides that without Lana there is nothing keeping him in Smallville, and heads to the Fortress of Solitude to begin his training as a superhero. However, Jor-El tells him Kara’s father- Zor-El, who is Jor-El’s brother- is evil and Kara is dangerous, therefore Clark must stay in Smallville to find out why she came to Earth. Lex makes a stunning discovery regarding Lana and Project 33.1.

Teenager Greg Arkin, who lives alone with his mother Mrs. Arkin, collects insects in his home. After arguing with his mother, he puts the insects in his car and has an accident on the road, and is attacked by the insects. He has a metamorphosis, becoming a powerful insect. He kills his mother and he chooses Lana Lang to be his mate for procreation purposes. In the end, Clark saves Lana from Greg’s cocoon.

I hope you enjoyed Episode 2.

Before I get to the monster, I want to mention the first case that was featured – about the guy that had nicked the brass harness the guy in the employment of William Champion Crespigny.   This is inspired by a real case. The guy was a gent from Cavendish Square.  One of the things that was so striking was that Garrow really laid into him.  He didn’t approach him with any deference, or care about his rank or position, he saw everyone as being equal before the law.

The other thing that was striking about the case was that it showed Garrow putting the idea of everyone being presumed innocent until proven guilty into practice  – he doesn’t put the defendant on the stand and the defendant doesn’t say anything.  Everything is about testing the prosecution case.   Garrow wins, without the defendant having to speak and a new legal precident is on the way to being established.

Now, the Monster.  Again, this was inspired by a real case.  One of the things that I thought was interesting was that the press played a key role in whipping up a storm. The Monster was a real cause celebre at the time, maybe the first celebrity criminal.  It had london in a fever.  I was excited by the case because I thought that I gave a good window onto the role of the press, as well as on the topic of prosecutions for reward, rather than by by police.  The other reason was that it allowed us to touch on what’s known as the ‘cab rank rule’ .   This is the rule that says that barristers have to take whatever case they’re asked to do, regardless of how they feel about it.  In the words of the former Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine of Lairg,

‘The “cab rank” rule is one of the glories of the Bar. It underscores that every member of the Bar is obliged, without fear or favour, to represent clients who offer themselves, regardless of how unpopular they may be in the community or elsewhere.’

As to the stuff that inspired the case, well, there really was a Monster who terrorised the streets of London, stabbing women in the bum, and also, and this really not nice, stabbing them in the face with a sharp implement disguised in bouquets of flowers.  For more info on the Monster, there are a few good sources of information. One is a book by Jan Bondeson:  http://www.amazon.co.uk/London-Monster-Sanguinary-Tale/dp/0812235762 This is really really thorough.  Of course, nothing beats going down the British Library and seeing the real stories as they were reported in the newspapers! It involved a number of legal complexities (all the stuff about the cutting of cloth etc) and the actual case was indeed respited for the 12 judges.
