I was able to track down immigration paperwork for Clara Carlsson, but was unable to dig any up for Carl Nelson as the census papers have discrepancies for his immigration date. I do have paperwork that states that both Clara and Carl lived as lodgers in Vermont with a family before they were married meaning they did not comes to the US together from Sweden. In Grandma Norma’s notes, she says they were from Laxarby, Sweden so I’m not sure what to think.

I do have pictures of everyone except Carl Nelson. I also have pictures of Paul’s daughter Patricia who died of polio as a toddler. Some of these I’ve already scanned and put into my small-but-growing database.

I have a few Heisserer pictures, but not many. From what I gathered on the family in general, Theon and Valeria were married 20 Nov 1900 by clergymen in Millwood, Lincoln County, MO. The following is an excerpt from a book that once belonged to Grandma Norma compiled by Romona Blattel Glastetter (a distant cousin and Heisserer descendant):

“Theon started the T.S. Heisserer & Company–Oran’s big department store. Zeno, his brother, later became his partner in the business. Theon was also a prominent real estate dealer in Southeast Missouri. He and Valeria took a trip to Canada to a cattle show and they decided to go home by way of Colorado Springs (where they had gone on their honeymoon). Word was received from Denver, CO that Theon was operated on for appendicitis, peritonitis had set in and he did not rally.”

Grandma Norma also wrote about her father’s death in a letter to her niece Anne (I’m assuming a Smith):

“Your grandfather, Theon S. Heisserer, practically owned the whole town of Oran, Mo. at one time. He and my mother went on what they called a second honeymoon to Colorado Springs via Canada on a thoroughbred cattle show. They got to Denver and Dad had an attack of appendicitis–fierce for 3 days–5 days later peronitis sets in and so Mom comes back to Oran with Dad in the baggage car–1000 miles away to 7 children.”

Also from the book written by one of the many Heisserer descendants:

“Their house was destroyed by fire in Nov 1923. Mrs. Mary Valeria Heisserer and Alma were away and only Norma, Howard, and Catherine were home. A man from Perkins who was on the way home from Benton first saw the fire and gave the alarm. In a short time a large crowd of people gathered but scarcely anything was saved, as the fire had gained such headway in the basement and first floor that it was dangerous to attempt much work of this kind. Norma smelled smoke and went to the basement, and as soon as she opened the door her exit was filled with flames, and she rushed farther into the cellar and finally got out by crawling through a coal chute. As it was she was slightly scorched…The house was a handsome one and cost about $15,000. Insurance was carried. They then moved to St. Louis in Aug 1924. They also raised Paul Burger, a nephew.”

Now Dad claims that Grandma Norma was responsible for the fire, but who knows if this is actually the case. I have a photo of the old house obviously before it was burnt to the ground. If anyone wants an electronic version I’ll be happy to send it. I also recently found the wedding invitations for Alma, Andrew “Jack’s” invitations and one of bridesmaids’ favors from Gladys’s wedding 14 Oct 1924. One of the random fun facts I found is that Grandma Norma and Eric Verner Nelson’s anniversary is the same date as Great Grandpa Theon and Valeria’s anniversary. If I have a decent recollection, I believe that there is a set of great-great grandparents that have the same anniversary date as well. If I ever get married, I’ll be claiming November 20th for the wedding (even if that means a Wednesday)! Too bad it falls in both Syracuse basketball season and football season. I guess people will show up as long as I don’t schedule it on a Saturday, Sunday, or Monday.

Next Sony Ericsson XPERIA is expected with Android 2.0

Another Android smartphone is leaked, but unfortunately we can’t say that it is going to start its sales any tome soon. This time it’s Sony Ericsson who fancy Android for its top range mobile phone, for next XPERIA division model to be precise. Parallels with HTC Hero here are possible, of course, but I fear they would be untimely because Rachel, so is its codename, sports some interesting features that make it stand out a bit.

There is not much to say about the next Sony Ericsson XPERIA, but we already know that it might whop Hero’s nose. First of all, SE is preparing a 8 megapixel camera with autofocus. Nothing with more humble pixel density was expected for the XPERIA because guys at Sony Ericsson were always taken up with cameras. Which probably explains a over 12 megapixel phone from them by the end of the year.

Now, there is more. HTC Hero comes with 528MHz processor. The XPERIA in turn is expected to be fitted with a latest 1GHz processor. That of course would make a difference no matter what the phone will be used for.

The last thing so far is the OS. SE Rachel is rumored to be one the first devices out there with Android 2.0. This fact arises questions like whether it will have something at least remotely like Sense UI? Or one which is even more actual: how long to wait fir it? All we know is that Android 2.0 comes in autumn, hopefully Rachel also.

O Ericsson 4, comandado pelo brasileiro Torben Grael, venceu neste domingo a sexta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09, que teve início no Rio de Janeiro no dia 11 de abril, e ampliou a vantagem na liderança da classificação geral da regata.

A tripulação Internacional do Ericsson Racing Team cruzou a linha de chegada em Boston, nos Estados Unidos, às 21h05min10 GMT, finalizando a jornada de 4.900 milhas náuticas em 15 dias, 10 horas, 30 minutos e 54 segundos, seguido de perto pelos companheiros de equipe do Ericsson 3.
A conquista foi a terceira do Ericsson 4 na regata. A equipe de Grael venceu a primeira perna da competição, de Alicante, na Espanha, até a Cidade do Cabo, na África do Sul; e a segunda etapa, entre a Cidade do Cabo e Cochin, na Índia.

Com o resultado, a tripulação Internacional do Ericsson Racing Team conquistou mais oito pontos e chegou a 77,5 pontos no total – antes do fim da sexta etapa, a vantagem em relação ao segundo colocado geral, o americano Puma, era de 10,5 pontos.

O Ericsson 3, comandado pelo sueco Magnus Olsson e composto por tripulação inteiramente nórdica, terminou a etapa em segundo lugar, na segunda dobradinha consecutiva dos barcos da Ericsson – na chegada da quinta etapa, no Rio de Janeiro, o Ericsson 3 foi o primeiro e o Ericsson 4, o segundo. A tripulação Nórdica chegou ao porto de Boston 11 minutos e 48 segundos após os companheiros de equipe.

“É uma sensação fantástica. Acho que fizemos uma ótima etapa. Estivemos sempre próximos dos outros barcos”, disse Grael, que chegou a estar 105 milhas náuticas atrás do então líder Telefônica Azul e assumiu a primeira colocação enquanto estava fora dos radares, em Stealth Play, na última quinta-feira.

“A nossa manobra alguns dias atrás foi fundamental. Não foi nada fácil, mas conseguimos nos manter na frente desde então. A chegada aqui também foi bastante complicada, parecia que estava tudo bem, mas os ventos estavam muito fracos no fim”.

A chegada a Boston foi emocionante, com uma briga intensa entre os quatro primeiros barcos por um lugar no pódio. Os três primeiros colocados chegaram ao porto em apenas 18 minutos – o Telefônica Azul terminou a etapa em terceiro.

“Foi um trabalho muito duro, mas que trouxe um excelente resultado para nós. Não poderia ser melhor. Mais um passo em direção ao nosso objetivo. Regatas nos Estados Unidos costumam me dar sorte. Esta foi mais uma”, disse Grael.

One of my favorite things that the arrival of the Internet brought along is not instant news, nor is it the potential to blog. It is the instant messenger. It allows you to continue conversations with your friends after you come home from school, which no other device in the world could do. And no, I am not forgetting the telephone, that didn’t let me continue conversations for one good reason; I can never call someone without a specific reason. If I call someone up ‘just for a chat’ I manage to talk for about 30 seconds. The following silence is so loud that I’m forced to say goodbye and hang up before the other person dies of boredom. Some people however, especially girls, seem to manage to talk on the phone for hours at a time without taking in a single breath. How do they do this?

Maybe it’s because I hardly ever use my mobile phone. This is partly because my first ever phone was a Sony Ericson, and unless you were sitting in Telstra’s letterbox when calling there was no way I could hear who was on the other end of the line. I could be talking to the King of Spain for all I knew, because the speaker on the phone was abysmal. Coupled with the fact that I generally had to use it when on a 4,000 year old National Bus didn’t help either. So now I have an LG. It is a simple but nice little phone, and I do like it, but it has one flaw. The battery life. It’s fine, as long as you don’t do anything with the phone. But as soon as you start calling someone, the battery is dead before you can leave a message.

Another bad experience with phones is trying to dig out my mum’s phone out of her handbag when it’s ringing. Talk about impossible. The amount of stuff that can fit in a handbag is incredible. Tissues, keys, books, pens, phones, photos, documents, golf clubs, foreign money, sunglasses, hats, credit cards, light bulbs and much more. The Americans were lucky Sudan Hussien wasn’t hiding in my mum’s handbag. They would still be looking for him. And I’ve never really liked hands free calling. In the car it just makes you look like a fool who’s talking to his sun visor, and on the street you try to figure out if the person is talking to a someone on the phone or talking to you. Or both. Trust me, it can be tricky at times to figure it out.

Anyway, moving right along from the rambling, I recently went to the airshow, with Tamasys. I loved it, it’s a rare occasion I get just to look at and talk about airplanes all day. But I don’t think Tamasys was inspired to take up flying. Oh well, there’s always the 2011 airshow.

And I have just realised that this is the latest I have ever posted, being 10:48 pm, which may explain the ramblingness of this blog. Never mind, until next time readers, Adieu.

Med anledning av att Ericsson har skrivit på ett tioårigt sponsoravtal så har dom tydligen rätt att döpa om Globen till något annat. Nu är det väl inte säkert att det ska bytas men nog låter det som att man tillsammans med Stockholmarna ska klura fram ett nytt fiffigt namn. Den stora bubblan har hetat Globen i nästan 20 år, är det då inte otroligt dumt att byta namn? Och jag tror ju att alla kommer säga Globen oavsett vad dom döper det till, så brukar det ju bli. Som när dom bytt namn på vår idrottspark i ett par omgångar, jag vet fasiken inte ens vad det heter nu, jag säger IP som det alltid hetat jag. Nej det är bara jobbigt när dom ska hålla på att ändra invanda namn på byggnader och gator tycker jag.

Hats off to the residents of Longmont, who donated money so retired K9 Izzy could have much needed surgery. I read about Izzy a few days ago. People were pissed that the PD referred to him as “equipment”. I’m glad they were able to help him. He’s a beautiful dog and he’s given many years of service. He deserves the best in his retirement.

Izzy, the retired Longmont, Colorado police dog in need of surgery, will be getting it — thanks to an outpouring of help from residents in the community and beyond.

A drive started by the local Fraternal Order of Police has raised enough money for the operation — from vets, kennels and individuals, including a resident of Las Vegas who came through with $1,000, said Robin L. Ericson, assistant to the chief of the Longmont Police/Fire Department.

The Flatirons Kennel Club has promised to pay $6,000 to cover the cost of his surgery, board member Love Banghart told 9NEWS. “This dog served the community for nine years,” said Banghart. “Any dog that serves the community for that long is very special.”

Izzy sustained a spinal injury catching an armed kidnapping suspect. Since retiring two years ago, the dog’s condition has gotten so bad it is hard for him to walk.

Ericson said that dental and medical benefits are provided to dogs in the city’s K-9 unit, but that those benefits end at retirement, as she says they do for police officers and other department staff.

“A number of people called and donated,” Ericson told ohmidog! — from money to ramps to help Izzy negotiate stairs. Any extra funds received will go toward future care for Izzy and a fund that will provide financial assistance to other retired police dogs.

Ericson said that Izzy’s vet has offered no guarantee that the surgery will help the 11-year-old dog.

She said it was unfortunate that the department termed the dog “equipment” in media reports — but said that’s the name of the official budget category under which the K-9 unit falls. “We love our dogs, and we understand why public wants to help… The term ‘equipment’ might not have been best choice of words.”

จำได้เลยนำไปวางขายที่มาบุญครอง โดยนำไปฝากขายตามร้านค้า ได้พบเรื่องแปลก คือ ตนยืนอยู่มีเด็กผู้หญิงเดินมากับแม่ โดยเด็กอายุประมาณ 10 ขวบ เมื่อเห็นโทรศัพท์มือถือรุ่นดังกล่าว อยากได้เลย แม่จึงถามว่า ยี่ห้ออะไร และเมื่อคนขายบอกยี่ห้อแม่บอกไม่รู้จักจึงไม่ซื้อและเดินจากไป แต่สักพักแม่ต้องจูงลูกกลับมาซื้อจนได้ ดังนั้น จึงพบว่า เป็นเรื่องที่แปลกดี เพราะลูกค้าร้องไห้อยากได้จนต้องกลับมาซื้อ

จีเน็ตเป็นแบรนด์และสินค้าที่ได้รับการดีไซน์โดยคนเกาหลี ส่วนฐานการผลิตสินค้าอยู่ที่จีน เพราะในปัจจุบันโทรศัพท์มือถือทั่วทั้งโลกทุกแบรนด์ผลิตจากจีน แต่ก็มีความแตกต่างชัดเจนว่า เป็นแบรนด์ของใครก็จะมีรูปแบบการออกแบบที่แตกต่างกัน โดยของยุโรปจะเป็นแบบหนึ่ง ของอเมริกาก็เช่นไอโฟน อย่างไรก็ตาม สำหรับของจีเน็ตเองเมื่อปี 2548 เครื่องจะออกสไตล์เกาหลีมาก ส่วนในช่วงนี้ เริ่มมีการปรับเปลี่ยน

เริ่มต้นขายก็ใช้เงินไม่มาก แต่เมื่อขายไปขายมาก็ขายเยอะโดยที่บริษัทฯ เองก็ไม่ได้ตั้งใจจะขายมาก แต่เมื่อขายไปเรื่อยๆ ปรากฏว่า ยอดเป็นหลักแสนเครื่อง ถือว่า ไปได้ ดังนั้น ตั้งแต่เมื่อครั้งนั้น จึงตัดสินใจจะทำตลาดเต็มตัวในนาม บริษัท ไวร์เลส แอ๊ดวานซ์ ซิสเต็ม จำกัด โดยเปิดตัวกับเอเย่นเมื่อวันที่ 14 ก.พ. 2550 และเมื่อถึงเดือน มี.ค. 2550 จึงเปิดตัวกับสื่อมวลชน

ฑัศ: สำหรับจีเน็ต โดยตัวสินค้าเองมีลักษณะเฉพาะมาก เนื่องจากสินค้าจีเน็ตทุกตัวถูกออกแบบมาด้วยคอนเซ็ปต์ คือ ข้อแรกเป็นรักแรกพบเช่นที่ได้ยกตัวอย่างมาว่า เด็กเห็นแล้วอยากได้เลย เพราะจีเน็ตทุกตัวถูกออกแบบมาให้มีจุดขาย สำหรับปัจจุบันจะเป็นในเรื่องของโทรศัพท์มือถือติดทีวี อย่างไรก็ตาม ในตลาดมีโทรศัพท์มือถือติดทีวีหลายยี่ห้อ แต่เห็นจีเน็ตแล้วจะดูดีและโอเคเป็นพิเศษ โดยเฉพาะจุดสำคัญถูกออกแบบให้มีขาตั้งน่ารัก เป็นจุดเด่น

ส่วนตัวที่สอง คือ คุณภาพดีและราคาเหมาะสม สอดคล้องกับสภาพเศรษฐกิจของไทย และเป็นแบบนี้ จริงๆ โดยจีเน็ตผู้ผลิตวางคอนเซ็ปต์แบบนี้ ไว้เลยตั้งแต่แรก ดังนั้น ผู้บริโภคไม่ต้องไปหาโทรศัพท์มือถือของจีเน็ตที่มีราคาแพง ไม่มี และไม่ต้องไปหาเลยว่า จีเน็ตที่ด้อยคุณภาพเป็นอย่างไร ง่ายๆ เลย เครื่องที่ขาย 999 บาท คิดว่า ราคาต่ำกว่า 1,000 บาท ไม่ควรมีฟังก์ชั่นอะไรแล้ว แต่จีเน็ตมีทั้งจอสี เสียงเอ็มพี 3 และยังมีเอ็มพี 4 เป็นต้น คือ ยังไม่ทิ้งความคุ้มค่า

นอกจากนั้น สิ่งที่จะพบจากจีเน็ตข้อที่สาม คือ ตามคำพูดของจีเน็ตระบุว่า โทรศัพท์มือถือใช้ทุกวันจึงเป็นความรับผิดชอบเลยว่า ถ้าขายโทรศัพท์มือถือต้องยอมรับว่า ผู้บริโภคใช้ทุกวัน ดังนั้น เรื่องขายสินค้าแล้วไม่เข้าศูนย์บริการเป็นไปไม่ได้ เพราะจะต้องมีเสีย ดังนั้น ที่มีทุกวันนี้ ก็เพราะลูกค้า จึงจำเป็นจะต้องดูแลลูกค้า โดยหลักการนี้ ของจีเน็ตเป็นหลักการที่ตนเองชอบใจมาก โดยจีเน็ตเสนอเลยว่า จะต้องมีเฟิร์สคลาสเซอร์วิส

ฑัศ: ย้ำมากเลย ยกตัวอย่างเมื่อครั้งบริษัทฯ จะเป็นเอเย่นจีเน็ต สิ่งแรกเลยจีเน็ตไม่ได้มาถามว่า ทำตลาดเป็นหรือไม่เป็น แต่ถามว่า เตรียมพร้อมเรื่องเซอร์วิสหรือยัง โดยที่ก่อนจะขายบริษัทฯ ต้องเปิดศูนย์บริการ หรือ เซอร์วิสเซ็นเตอร์ และคอลล์เซ็นเตอร์ก่อน ดังนั้น ในวันเปิดตัวจะขายสินค้าคอลล์เซ็นเตอร์และเซอร์วิสเซ็นเตอร์เรียบร้อยหมดแล้ว ซึ่งศูนย์บริการจีเน็ตศูนย์แรกอยู่ที่ฟอร์จูน

ทั้งหมดนี้ คือ หลักการสำคัญที่ บริษัท จีเน็ตเน้นย้ำ นอกจากนั้น ยังจะต้องให้บุคลากรของบริษัทฯ ไปอบรมก่อนที่จะเริ่มขายสินค้า อย่างไรก็ตาม การเตรียมความพร้อมเรื่องเซอร์วิสนี้ ไม่ใช่เรื่องเล็กๆ เพราะจะต้องส่งคนไปอบรมและสั่งซื้ออะไหล่ก่อนขายสินค้า แตกต่างจากในอดีตที่ไม่ได้ทำด้านนี้ เคยมองว่า เรื่องการซ่อมโทรศัพท์มือถือเป็นเรื่องยาก แต่ในความเป็นจริง คือ การซ่อมไม่ยาก แต่สิ่งสำคัญ คือ มีอะไหล่เปลี่ยนหรือไม่

ส่วนศูนย์ย่อยๆ บริษัทฯ แต่งตั้งไออีซี โดยไออีซีเป็นทั้งตัวแทนจำหน่ายจีเน็ต สำหรับจุดสำคัญที่บริษัทฯ แต่งตั้งไออีซีไม่ใช่ เพราะไออีซีขายเก่ง โดยมีร้านช้อปอยู่ประมาณ 40 แห่ง แต่ที่สำคัญ คือ ไออีซีมีศูนย์บริการอันดับ 1 ของประเทศ รวมทั้งมีศูนย์บริการซ่อมโทรศัพท์มือถือโนเกียอยู่ในระดับ 3 คือ ระดับสูงที่สุด โดยในประเทศไทยมีศูนย์โนเกียเพียง 2 ศูนย์ คือ ของกลุ่มไออีซีกับกลุ่มเอไอเอส

บริษัทฯ แต่งตั้งไออีซี เพราะไออีซีทำด้านเซอร์วิสได้ดี ดังนั้น ถ้าซื้อโทรศัพท์มือถือจีเน็ตสามารถเข้ารับเซอร์วิสจากไออีซีได้ นอกจากนั้น ในส่วนของศูนย์บริการยังมีทีจีเซลูลาร์ และยูดี ขณะเดียวกันการตั้งเอเย่นบริษัทฯ ก็มองในเรื่องของเซอร์วิสด้วย ทำให้ในปัจจุบันนี้ ลูกค้าสามารถไปตามจุดประมาณ 600 แห่ง ที่พร้อมจะเซอร์วิสสินค้าจีเน็ต อย่างไรก็ตาม ต้องยอมรับอีกว่า เรื่องเซอร์วิสโทรศัพท์มือถือมีความสลับซับซ้อน เพราะเป็นสินค้าไฮเทค ดังนั้น เรื่องการไปตั้งศูนย์ต่างจังหวัดแล้วซ่อมทำไม่ได้ เฉพาะเครื่องไม้เครื่องมือลงทุนไปแล้วหลายร้อยล้านบาท

ศูนย์บริการจริงๆ ควรมีเพียง 1-2 แห่ง เพราะต้องไฮเทค รวมทั้งลงทุนด้านเครื่องมือและอะไหล่มาก แต่ทำอย่างไรให้ซ่อมเร็ว ดังนั้น การจะซ่อมเร็วได้ต้องมีอะไหล่ ดังนั้น เครื่องทั้งระบบจะถูกส่งเข้าไปที่ศูนย์ใหญ่ หรือ ส่วนกลาง หลังจากนั้น ส่วนกลางจะดำเนินการซ่อมและส่งกลับ เพราะถ้าใช้การซ่อมจากจุดเล็กๆ ก็ไม่แตกต่างจากร้านทั่วๆ ไปซ่อม คือ ไม่มีเครื่อง มืออะไรที่เป็นคุณภาพ

จำไว้เลยว่า การซ่อมโทรศัพท์มือถือถ้าเป็นประเภทไฮเทคมาก และอะไหล่บางชิ้นไม่ใช้การซ่อม เป็นการถอดเปลี่ยนชิ้นเป็นส่วนใหญ่ บอกได้เลยยุคนี้ ซ่อมไม่ค่อยได้ เพราะอุปกรณ์และอะไหล่ส่วนใหญ่แบ่งเป็นชิ้นๆ ชิ้นไหนเสียเปลี่ยน โดยหาเพียงส่วนไหนเสีย

เรื่องเซอร์วิสนี้ อยู่ใน 3 ข้อสำคัญที่ลูกค้าจะได้จากจีเน็ต อย่างไรก็ตาม จริงๆ แล้ววิชั่นของจีเน็ตยังมีอยู่ 2 ข้อ โดยจะเพิ่มเติมให้ คือ จีเน็ตบอกว่า จะเป็นมัลติมีเดียโฟน คือ มีฟังก์ชั่นการทำงานครบทั้งหมด เช่น ดูหนัง และฟังเพลง โดยในขณะนั้น ยังไม่มีเรื่องเอ็มพี 4 ส่วนยุคนี้ อีกข้อหนึ่ง คือ จะเป็นโลคัลกอฟเวอร์แบรนด์ หมายถึงจะทำโทรศัพท์มือถือสำหรับคนเอเชีย เน้นออกแบบให้ถูกใจคนเอเชีย แต่ก็ไม่ได้หมายความว่า ไม่ขายคนยุโรป

Exclusive: ในฐานะเป็นผู้นำเข้าและจัดจำหน่ายจีเน็ตพอใจกับผลตอบรับในการทำตลาดมากน้อยแค่ไหน?

ฑัศ: ในส่วนของเมืองไทยที่บริษัทฯ เป็นเอเย่น โดยหลังจากเริ่มขายมาตั้งแต่ปี 2550 ก็ทำยอดขายได้ตามที่ได้รับมอบหมายมา และพอมาถึงปี 2551 เฉพาะต้นปีสามารถทำยอดขายได้ถึงคาดการณ์ยอดขายทั้งปีแล้ว หมายความว่า เพียง 2 ไตรมาสที่ผ่านมา ทำยอดขายได้ทะลุเป้าไปแล้ว

จีเน็ตวางเป้าหมายยอดขายไว้ที่ประมาณ 500,000 เครื่อง และเพียงครึ่งปีแรกบริษัทฯ สามารถขายได้เกิน 500,000 ตัวแล้ว โดยบังเอิญเป็นแบบนี้ คือ ในช่วงปีนี้ มีกระแสเกี่ยวกับโทรศัพท์มือถืออยู่ 2 กระแสสำคัญ ที่บ้านเรายังไม่มี โดยเรื่องแรก คือ ทีวีโมบาย และเมื่อมีกระแสทีวีโมบายทำให้ยอดขายของจีเน็ตในประเทศไทยเร็วมาก ประกอบกับแบรนด์หลักๆ ในตลาดไม่ได้ทำตลาดทีวีโมบายด้วย

ส่วนกระแสที่ 2 และเป็นเมกะเทรนด์เลย คือ เทรนด์มัลติซิม หรือ เทรนด์ 2 ซิม หมายถึงสามารถใช้ 2 ซิมการ์ดได้ในโทรศัพท์มือถือเครื่องเดียว ทำให้สะดวกและประหยัด ส่วนราคาก็เพิ่มขึ้นอีกเล็กน้อยและแบรนด์หลักๆ ไม่มีด้วย ดังนั้น จึงเป็นอีก 1 เทรนด์ที่ทำให้จีเน็ตมาเร็ว อย่างไรก็ตาม ในเรื่องของเทรนด์ 2 ซิมเฮ้าแบรนด์อื่นๆ ก็มีเยอะ ส่วนของจีนแดงที่หิ้วกันมาก็เยอะ แต่โอเครู้กันอยู่ว่า คุณภาพไม่ได้และเซอร์วิสไม่มี

Exclusive: ปัจจุบันจีเน็ตมีส่วนแบ่งตลาดทั้งเฉพาะกลุ่มเฮ้าแบรนด์ และในตลาดรวมทั้งหมดประมาณเท่าไร?

ฑัศ: เรื่องแชร์นี้ ขอออกตัวไม่อยากพูดถึง เพราะเป็นตัวเลขจากการสำรวจ แต่ถ้าจะเชื่อถือจริงๆ วัดยาก เพราะมองว่า ตลาดโทรศัพท์มือถือเป็นตลาดที่มีการแข่งขันสมบูรณ์ และในตลาดก็ไม่ใช่มีผู้ชนะคนเดียวส่วนที่เหลือแพ้หมด เพราะเกมการตลาดของโทรศัพท์มือถืออยู่ที่ว่า สามารถเอาอะไรใหม่ๆ มาตอบสนองความต้องการของผู้บริโภคได้ และมีส่วนแบ่งการตลาดเพิ่มขึ้นหรือไม่

ยกตัวอย่างลูกค้าที่ซื้อทีวีโมบายของจีเน็ตก็ไม่ได้หมายความว่า เป็นลูกค้าจากแบรนด์อื่นๆ ในตลาดทั้งหมด เนื่องจากที่ผ่านมา อาจจะไม่ได้สนใจทีวีโมบาย แต่เมื่อวันนี้ เห็นว่า โทรศัพท์มือถือสามารถดูทีวีได้ชัดและสะดวกจึงตัดสินใจซื้อ ดังนั้น จึงไม่ได้หมายความว่า ลูกค้าที่จีเน็ตได้ในวันนี้ เป็นลูกค้าที่แบรนด์อื่นๆ เคยได้ เช่นเดียวกับสโลแกนของจีเน็ตที่หมายความว่า เป็นความแตกต่างอย่างมีสไตล์ ยกตัวอย่างทีวีโมบายของจีเน็ตที่ได้รับการพิสูจน์แล้วว่า สามารถดูทีวีได้จริงด้วยสัญญาณทีวีทั่วไป

Exclusive: แบ่งกลุ่มโทรศัพท์มือถือจีเน็ตที่มีวางจำหน่ายในประเทศไทยอย่างไร และเน้นลูกค้ากลุ่มไหนเป็นหลัก?

ฑัศ: สโลแกนของบริษัทฯ บอกเอาไว้ว่า ทันสมัย เข้าใจทุกความต้องการ ดังนั้น โทรศัพท์ของจีเน็ตจึงมุ่งตอบสนองความต้องการของทั้งตลาด อย่างไรก็ตาม หลายคนอาจจะบอกว่า โทรศัพท์มือถือของจีเน็ตมีไม่กี่รุ่น แต่ในความเป็นจริงแล้วโทรศัพท์จีเน็ตมีขายจนนับรุ่นไม่ได้ และในต่างประเทศ 1 เดือนมีออกมาประมาณ 10 รุ่น 1 ปี ประมาณร้อยกว่ารุ่น แต่บริษัทฯ นำเข้ามาจำหน่ายเพียงบางส่วนตามความต้องการของคนไทย

อย่างไรก็ตาม การแบ่งเซกเม้นท์ตลาดโทรศัพท์มือถือก็เป็นการแบ่งแบบเก่าๆ ไม่มีอะไรมาก คือ ล่าง กลางและสูง ส่วนตัวมองไม่ได้มีความหมายอะไรมากนัก เพราะบริษัทฯ มองว่า เป็นการแบ่งแบบทั่วๆ ไป แต่จีเน็ตจะมองจากลักษณะสไตล์ของผู้บริโภค คือ กลุ่มสินค้าทีวีซีรีส์ ที่เป็นโทรศัพท์มือถือดูทีวีได้ จีซีรีส์ ที่หมายถึงกลุ่มสินค้าสีทอง และมินิซีรีส์ ที่เน้นเครื่องขนาดเล็ก

จีเน็ตจะแบ่งกลุ่มสินค้าตามสไตล์ของผู้บริโภค อย่างไรก็ตาม เร็วๆ นี้ จะมีสินค้ากลุ่มใหม่ คือ เอฟซีรีส์ ที่หมายถึงโทรศัพท์แนวแฟชั่นและสีสัน 10 หรือ 20 สี ที่ตรงนี้ มีลูกค้าอีกกลุ่มหนึ่งชอบ โดยทั้งหมดนี้ เปรียบเทียบให้เห็นภาพ ส่วนในกลุ่ม ไฮเอนด์ เช่น รุ่นซุปเปอร์ดีวีดี ที่โทรศัพท์มือถือสามารถดูดีวีดีได้ชัดเจนนั้น ก็มี โดยจะเห็นได้ว่า ในเรื่องของเทคโนโลยีนั้น จีเน็ตก็มีความสามารถไม่เบา รวมทั้งในรุ่นอื่นๆ ที่มีเทคโนโลยีอีกมากมาย แต่ยังไม่ได้นำเข้า

Exclusive: สภาพการแข่งขันในตลาดโทรศัพท์มือถือขณะนี้ เป็นอย่างไร?

ฑัศ: การแข่งขันเปรียบเทียบให้เห็นภาพว่า สินค้าแฟชั่นสู้ไม่ได้ โดยความรุนแรงในการแข่งขันหนักกว่าสินค้าแฟชั่น รวมทั้งสินค้าเปลี่ยนแปลงเร็วกว่าตลาดแฟชั่นและมีเทคโนโลยีซับซ้อนมากกว่า ดังนั้น ถ้าถามว่า การแข่งขันดุเดือดหรือไม่ ไม่ต้องอธิบาย เพราะถ้าเปรียบเทียบกับสินค้าแฟชั่นจะเห็นว่า เปลี่ยนแปลงเร็วแต่ไหน โทรศัพท์มือถือเปลี่ยนแปลงเร็วกว่าและแข่งขันรุนแรงกว่า

นอกจากนั้น สินค้าโทรศัพท์มือถือในรายที่เป็นยักษ์ในตลาดวันนี้ วันพรุ่งนี้ อาจจะกลายเป็นมดแดงเลยก็ได้ หรือ ล่มสลายไปในชั่วพริบตา ตรงนี้ เปรียบเทียบให้เห็นภาพ อย่างไรก็ตาม ในเรื่องของการตลาดแล้วจีเน็ตเจียมตัวเสมอ เพราะเป็น แบรนด์เล็กๆ และไม่เคยคิดจะทำให้เป็นแบรนด์ใหญ่ เพราะยังไงก็เป็นแบรนด์เล็กอยู่ดี แต่บริษัทฯ จะทำให้เป็นแบรนด์เล็กที่มีความสุข คือ ไม่ต้องเดือดร้อนแข่งขันว่า ส่วนแบ่งการตลาดเป็นเท่าไรและมียอดขายมากน้อยแค่ไหน

คือ จีเน็ตเป็นแบรนด์เล็กถูกกำหนดเป้ามาแค่ไหนก็ทำ อย่างไรก็ตาม บริษัทฯ จะมองว่า จีเน็ตเป็นแบรนด์เล็ก แต่สมาร์ท และจะดูแลลูกค้าให้ดีที่สุด เพราะเชื่อว่า ที่มีทุกวันนี้ เพราะลูกค้า

ทั้งนี้ บางครั้งพอฟังชื่อจีเน็ตแล้วอาจจะไม่เห็นเทคโนโลยี เพราะเป็นแบรนด์ที่เมืองไทยไม่ดัง ซึ่งเป็นเรื่องธรรมดาที่บางครั้งสินค้าดังบางตัวบ้านเราไม่ได้ขาย ดังนั้น จึงอยู่ที่ว่า ตลาดหลักเป็นกลุ่มไหน อย่างไรก็ตาม ต้องยอมรับว่า ในไทยโนเกียได้รับความนิยมจนเกือบจะมียอดขายในตลาดสูงเป็นอันดับ 1 ของเอเชียและของโลก เพราะคนไทยให้ความไว้วางใจโนเกีย โดยต้องยอมรับ

ฑัศ: อยากจะฝากถึงสินค้าจีเน็ตกับผู้บริโภคว่า อยากจะให้ลองดู โดยต้องทดลองใช้ และคิดว่า เมื่อได้ลองแล้วจะชอบ เพราะสาเหตุที่เลือกขายสินค้าจีเน็ตก็เพราะว่า ส่วนตัวใช้งานแล้วชอบ นอกจากนั้น ยังอยากให้ผู้บริโภคมองถึงเรื่องการรับประกันและการบริการหลังการขาย ที่จีเน็ตมีให้และมั่นใจในคุณภาพการให้บริการ รวมทั้งเป็นสินค้าที่มีคุณภาพดีและราคาไม่แพง…

3 mobile companies have just released their earnings for Q2 2008 over the past weekend. Having done one of my branding projects on Motorola, the recent releases did not surprise me.

Firstly, Motorola has been predicted to fall to 5th place behind LG and Ericson here. Ericson too has seen a fall in sales by a whooping 97% and has resorted to laying of 2000 of its staff to cut costs, read more about it here.

Mobile giants Nokia on the other hand has seen increasing sales despite the industry’s tough competition within the industry. Apple’s iPhone is still soaring in demand, even in places it has yet to be launched. (I know, I’m waiting for 1 too…)

Motorola’s sad story goes all the way back to its lost of appeal over its single dependency on its Razor, causing it to split its mobile division from the parent company. Ericson might be suffering cause of the iPhone and the fact that Samsung and Nokia have snatched a large market share from them.

But one thing can be learned from the mobile industry, is that a brand has to be unique, it has to own something. K, take a look at Motorola, the Razor used to be such a wicked phone, the phone to bring Motorola to new heights (They were the first company to develop the mobile phone), but when that factor was lost, Motorola slipped, and they fell hard. They kept depending on a product that just wasn’t cool anymore. The brand image changed from cool to just plain boring….

LG snatched some of that away with its nice cool factor, HTC did pretty well with its diamond, Ericson focused on music but lost that unique selling factor too… None of them were really able to adapt to the demands of their new branding proposition while trying to retain their core brand message. Lack of innovation, bad engineers or designers, poor marketers, i don’t know… Whatever messed up must’ve been the lack of ability to keep up to listen to the consumers.

Nokia has got some pretty cool campaigns which involved the people (Connecting people…) for some game shows using their GPS systems, they seem to lack a grasp of using digital media and making a campaign go from viral to plain confusing.

While I’m wondering if a brand ,in such a fast changing industry, is so crucial, why hasn’t there been more campaigns or designing process involving the consumers? Why keep banging on the same damn one way traditional channels?

Is it safe to say that the Long Tail theory is flawed here and that mass appeal still has its effect on consumers?

I would like to think so. People liked Nokia in the late 90’s, Motorola’s Razor was cool 3 years back, youth went nuts over the music phone from Ericson just 1-2 years ago, now we’re all rushing for the iPhone. (Heck, Apple’s isn’t even known to produce phones like Nokia and we don’t even know what the data plans are like, yet we’re all nuts about it, why?) Mass appeal, or the Hollywood effect, still has its appeal to us.

So back to the big title question, are the mobile handsets ready for social media? or should they carry on launching it like a blockbuster movie?
