Today, I went to the offices of the Department of Water and Power, located in the John Ferraro Building downtown. It’s a gorgeous building from the 1960s that, according to the LA Times, “crowns downtown L.A.” It was famous long before a certain local musical act used it as the location for an album cover photo.

This is a picture of the Ferraro building. Look at the beautiful fountains!

I found this quote on the LADWP website: “Southern California is facing a water supply shortage for the third year in a row. As a result, more water conservation is urgently needed.”

Oh DWP! I’m so confused!

I went to Winchell’s on my way to work today to get a dozen glazed doughnuts for the office. On the side of the box was printed the slogan “With a donut in each hand, anything is possible.” While I appreciate the humor behind a slogan like that, I can’t help but foresee some very dangerous consequences if taken literally.

Today marks the 210th anniversary of George Washington’s death. From this eyewitness account of the first president’s final day, we can glean a useful piece of advice: do not garden in the sleet. If you must garden in the sleet, relax afterward instead of staying up all night writing and studying. You could catch a cold and die if you don’t follow this advice. That’s what happened to George.

I was trying not to be paranoid – yet a large part of me was concerned that you hadn’t been arrested at all. See, one time a friend of mine was brutalized on the side of the road by someone pretending to be a cop. He had badge and a car and everything, and he used those to take advantage of her.

So earlier I made that post about Tabitha Soren, and I said she was my first “legitimate” celebrity crush. That got me thinking – if Tabitha Soren was my first legit crush, who was my first “illegitimate” crush?

Honestly, it didn’t take me that long to figure it out: Irene Lew, the love interest of the blue ninja dude in the Ninja Gaiden video game for the NES (she’s illegitimate because she’s made of pixels).

I must say – it’s kind of ridiculous how much she looks like Tabitha Soren.

Hmm…. no one would treat Tabitha Soren like that though.

Tabitha Soren, my first legitimate celebrity crush and the best thing that ever happened to MTV, is on facebook. She’s been out of the public eye for a long time now and doesn’t seem to be using facebook for either networking or self-promotional purposes, so I won’t add her as a friend. I bet that it’s weird for her when people do that.

I was reminded of Soren a couple of months ago, when my buddy Nathan told me that our friend Jess had recently run into her at a Peet’s Coffee in Berkeley. I guess she doesn’t live in France anymore. I would have been glad to have run into Tabitha Soren at a Peet’s Coffee in Berkeley — or anywhere.

One time I met Michael Stipe on a plane.

Anyway, this is an interview that Soren conducted with Tupac back in 1995. Unfortunately, it’s grainy:

Once, Teddy Roosevelt got shot in the chest. You know in movies when the hero gets shot but is saved because, instead of hitting his heart, the bullet gets lodged in a lucky pendant that was given to him by a loved one? The same thing happened to Roosevelt, except instead of a lucky pendant he was saved by the bulky text of an overlong speech that he’d written in support of his failed third-party bid for the presidency in 1912.

Roosevelt, of course, delivered the speech before seeking medical attention.

The man who shot him, John Schrank, claimed that the ghost of William McKinley told him to do it. According to Schrank, McKinley’s ghost blamed Roosevelt for his death. This is funny, of course, because everyone knows that McKinley was killed savagely by lions while on safari in Africa.

Teddy Roosevelt drank a gallon of coffee a day. I haven’t been able to find an original source for that information, but it’s repeated enough on the internet (both from seemingly official places and other, more dubious, ones) that I’m tempted to believe that it’s true.

I lived Twenty-seven years without ever being cyber-bullied. Thanks to Kyle Mabson for finally putting an end to that.

Kuvassa kanavoija Darryl Anka

Darryl Anka on yli 20-vuotta kanavointia harrastanut henkilö. Kaikki alkoi, kun Darryl kohtasi kaksi kertaa samalla viikolla muutaman muun henkilön kanssa kolmionmuotoisen Ufon vuonna 1973. Tästä lähti Darrylin kiinnostus mm. ufo-ilmiötä kohtaan ja hän alkoi tutkimaan ufokirjallisuutta ja muuta paranormaalia. Myöhemin Darryl kiinnostui mm. kanavoinnista ja kymmenen vuoden päästä ufokohtaamisesta hän meni kanavointitilaisuuteen, jossa opetettiin myös meditointia ja kanavointia. Kesken meditoinnin Darryl sai telepaattisen viestin olennolta, joka kutsui itseään nimellä “Bashar“. Hän sai tietää, että ufo jonka hän näki oli alus. Darrylin päähän tuli myös muisto sopimuksesta, jonka hän oli tehnyt. Sopimukseen kuului kanavointi ja tiedon tuominen. Darryl epäili aluksi, että kyseessä saattoi olla hallusinaatio tai meditoinnin sivuvaikutus, mutta päätti jatkaa ja antaa olennon puhua kauttaan. Hän päätti, että vaikka kyseessä olisi hänen alitajuntansa, niin hän jatkaisi silti, sillä kanavoinnin kautta saatu tieto voisi auttaa ihmisiä tekemään elämässään rakentavia ja positiivisia muutoksia. Darryl Anka on nyt kanavoinut useissa maissa ja kaupungeissa jo vuodesta 1983 asti.

Kun telepaattinen viesti ensimmäisenä tuli Darrylin päähän nimi Bashar tuli sen mukana. Aluksi hän oletti, että se on olennon nimi, mutta myöhemmin tuli ilmi, että heidän sivilisaationsa/yhteiskuntansa ei käytä nimiä, koska he kaikki ovat telepaattisia. Nimi tuli siis sen takia, että meidän olisi parempi/helpompi kutsua/tuntea tuo olento jollain nimellä ja siksi Bashar valittiin.

Bashar on arabiaa ja valittiin luultavasti Darrylin sukujuurien takia (puoliksi Arabialainen), vaikka hän ei puhu arabiaa. Darrylillä ei ollut mitään tietoa mitä tuo sana tarkoitti, kunnes joku arabiaa ymmärtävä kertoi sen tarkoittavan “sanan saattajaa” tai tarkemmin “hyvien uutisten tuojaa”. Nimi kuvaa siis hyvin sitä mitä Bashar tekee.

Darryl tekee yleensä selväksi, että kenenkään ei tarvitse uskoa, että Bashar on telepaattinen olento, joka puhuu hänen kauttaan kanavoinnin avulla. Hän sanookin, että hän ei voi mitenkään todistaa kontaktin olevan aito. Tärkein asia on kuitenkin tieto, joka on auttanut ja auttaa useita ihmisiä mukaan lukien Darrylia itseään.

Tieto on vastannut moniin polttaviin kysymyksiin selvyydellä ja mielihyvällä, laajentanut Darrylin luovuutta, inspiroinut ja ohjannut useita muuttamaan heidän elämäänsä parempaan suuntaan ja tuonut ymmärrystä konsepteihin, joita hän ei ole koskaan ajatellut mahdolliseksi. So here I am, back where it all began. Stain has been and will always be my nemesis. Whatever I do, like try to join an alliance in the far north, I end up in Period Basis next to Stain. Join a mercenary outfit, and we deploy to Stain. Figures…

As if that is not enough we are fighting in no less than three regions. Stain, Feythabolis and Esoteria. The two of them are completely new to me despite having lived so close to them for over a year.

Of note are the system 4GQ-XQ in Stain, in which Stain Empire (SE) lives. Stain Empire, and specifically Xenobytes, were the first ever true combat pilots I ever crossed. Crossed is a fine word for when they crippled 3 of my ravens in less than 2 weeks. On the other hand I learned from them and have never lost another Raven to roaming gangs.

Another system of note is C9N-CC in Esoteria, a system which Stain Empire was recently evicted from. The system has a legacy in that it still holds the wreck of the first Titan to go down. The system has some of the most vivid colors Ive ever seen. A deep blue and grey star field, a piercing red sun and some spectacular light blue and white nebulae.

As the last system of note is AZN-D2 in Feythabolis. A goon controlled system that was the staging point for the attack on C9N-CC. Also the landing zone of the KIA dropships.

On sunday afternoon we moved out from TDE in a large gang consisting mainly of Heavy Assault Ships. I was in my trusty Sabre.

We moved casually along with scouts out. Shortly after having left Geminate region we encountered a Rapier which we ignored as we were eager to get to the destination. It became aparrent that he was following us and a camp was set up at the in-gate in UD-AOK. The pilot magichka jumped into my bubble and was promtly disposed of.

Closing in on C9N-CC, which was our original destination, we were informed that a large fleet fight was taking place and it was not the place to be in our nifty HACs. As a result AZN-D2 was chosen as new destination and headquarter of KIA for the duration of our stay.

Along the way we passed through some spectacular systems of untold beaty and mystery. We even passed some strange looking vessels. We did not bother them and they left us alone as well.

As we came closer to our destination more and more combat vessels appeared. Scared, victorious and proud they roamed and patrolled. There was no doubt we were entering a warzone where everyone was hunter and prey. Goons and Tau Ceti Federation (TCF) gangs and fleets became more and more frequent. We had some banter in the local comms channel, but most of  the TCF spoke a strange dialect, which rumor has it, has its roots in the original Gallente language. They tend to put in a lot of ‘z’s in their pronunciation of words often replacing ‘th’…

After docking up in AZN-D2 and getting settled we took the ships out for a spin and went by C9N-CC.

I was happy to get the chance to see the behemoth of “STEVE” the Avatar Titan wreck. I warped well past it to get a good approach. Smoldering fires can still be observed which must be remains of some engineparts still turning being held in motion by repair drones and nano robots that have not registered the demise of the ship.

We will soon move out as we get comfortable with our new surroundings.

Another aspect of looking at our perceived reality can be illucidated using the metaphor of bandwidths on a radio. I appreciate the way Sarah explains that social agreements (even agreements we do not consciously acknowledge that we are maintaining) can create a tension, what she describes as truths and lies. I perceive this a little differently.

I understand the model that we live in a binary plane. We like to structure our bandwidth and say, “This is true, this is false.” It has been done perhaps since we began communication with one another…and to its credit, this practice gives us a range of scope in which we can focus (until someone sees beyond it…

Yet, I do not see this as the deeper or broader reality. I return to the bandwidth metaphor. I once rented an art studio in New Mexico. When I moved in there was a little radio clock that the previous tenant had left. It was such a cute compact object, that I have taken it with me throughout many moves across the U.S. I tend to like to listen to National Public Radio in the morning, which existed somewhere in the high 80’s on the FM band. As I traveled from place to place, I found that what I was picking up was different from place to place. Also, I noticed that I could often find some station that transmitted NPR somewhere in the high 80’s or low 90’s, and I experienced many cultural ‘flavors’ as I drove across the U.S., by listening to smaller radio stations (ones that did not play the same syndicated programming throughout the entire U.S). In each bandwidth I experienced alternate transmissions. To add to this range, I have also had the pleasure to experience transmission from highly powerful short wave radios, which can pick up signals from other countries, when the wind is just right.

So, I see our agreements, once again, intimately connected and interdependent on our ability to see, to focus, and to be aware that the universe is unlimited. I no longer can believe that there are truths and untruths. There are differences of opinion, variations in perception, in ’seeing’, or to respect the metaphor, in “hearing’.

A brash statement. There is only truth. Yet, I am making it, based on my observations, as one who enjoys riding the waves. My friend Jeremiah used to say that everything is fiction. It took me years to understand his gaze. I came to embrace it and then I transformed that into something that was more accepting.

I will love to delve into the minutia of this metaphor, why we make certain stations appear in certain radio waves, how our reality is influenced by the type of radio we listen to, what happens in those radio free zones, you know the ones I am talking about? Does time really stop, or is it too big to fit into our limited view of the time-space continuum?

But I seem to like to end my little comments with questions. I’d love to hear whether it piques your curiosity.
