Heads or tails? If I’m in the psychic zone, I can call the coins before they land on my feet. If I’m frazzled, over-tired, conflicted or insecure, forget about it. One guess will be as good as any other. Heads some. Tails some. Entering the psychic zone is sort of like entering the Twilight Zone – or so I imagine. No, I am NOT talking about that Twilight – the one with the vampires. Instead I speak of the Rod Serling Twilight Zone - some of the best black-and-white TV ever. YouTube it and see if you agree. The music alone is fantastic and the stories intriguing (or so, I recall).

Today, I had a very good day psychic testing — I was in the psychic zone for quite a while. Eventually I had to come out, though, and I was disoriented and slightly dizzy. I am wondering if I can do just as well guessing on the coins and the chips. (I already know the answer and it is no). Let the chips fall where they may. Ever since I’ve become a self-declared (and scientifically vetted) psychic, I rarely guess anymore. It’s a fine line between guessing and knowing, but I know which side I fall on.

As the year comes to a close, I find myself thinking back to the decisions that I’ve made, that have gotten me to this place.

It’s a very happy place! I can honestly say that I am completely content and enjoying my moments. Good or bad. I don’t mind what happens…because something else always happens after that;)

When I first decided to make serious changes in my life, almost 7 years ago…I often consulted a set of Rune Stones that I had purchased. Runes are an oracle from which one seeks advice.

As with many of you, I tried psychics, tarot cards and the like to help make me feel better about myself and guide me down the right path…but the stones were, and still are, the best place for me to turn…when I have a decision that needs to be made. It’s almost like someone is standing next to you whispering in your ear. It’s worth a try…you’ll be amazed! Best of all, anyone can do it.

Don’t be so serious…it’s not witchcraft! There’s an interesting site with all kinds of information regarding Runes, Alphabet of Mystery. It’s an interesting read and is certainly worth a couple of minutes of your time.

This information is not my own. It’s a compilation I’ve learned from reading and others more adept at animal communication.

The 2 things that stand out and seem worthy of mentioning are the golden cord and talking to pets using visuals.

Golden cord: We all spend some time away from our pets. If you want to establish a sort of “open line” of communication with a pet, imagine that a golden cord of light attaches both of you end to end in your heart space. Feel the love and affection you have for your friend when trying this visual. Do it when you are near your animal, and when you are away, you establish communication by doing the same while at work, vacation etc reassuring them that you are well and you will be home soon. This method is also used when a pet strays or gets lost. Sending out the golden cord is said to help them find their way home.

Visualization: I hear from animal psychics all the time that our pets communicate with PICTURES. What they see, how they see it, their every day life is flashed as pictures. So, it would seem easy enough that we could use the same if we want to convey information or desires to them… like, bringing back the ball after we throw it for them. LOL. I’ve been using this technique to tell one of my cats to try and lay down at my feet when we sleep at night, rather than try to hang around my face and lick it to keep me awake. It has worked!

As Ferris Bueller urges us, you’ve got to stop and look around once in a while, and as we near the end of the decade I’m feeling introspective. I’m also rather seasonally affected and in need of cheering up, what with the disgraceful weather, pasty skin, a near biblical attachment to my duvet and a torpid mental state despite the supposed Last Big Push at work as another sales year hurtles to a close.

So I’m pausing to take stock of email marketing at the turn of the ‘Teens’ decade. In the time-honoured tradition of men’s magazines, it’s taking the form of Top 10’s. All sorts of ‘decade’ lists are appearing right now: defining events (9/11, Afghanistan, Iraq, Tsunami, Obama, Lehmans…), technological advances (Facebook, iPhone, Wii…), the NME’s top albums (The Strokes Is This It was numero uno)….

Firstly, I’m thanking my lucky stars that I’m in the digital industry and working for a company that’s grown despite the recession. Email marketing has had a phenomenal rise over the past decade to become king of communications. There’s been many key milestones (the first multipart mime email, the first billion emails sent, scheduling emails, API development, split-testing etc) but it reads as a rather geeky ESP history, so my first Top 10 is: Why I’m glad I jumped on board the email gravy train:

1. ROI is exceptional

DMA research  shows email marketing generated an ROI of $43.62 for every dollar spent on it in 2009. The expected figure for 2010 is $42.08. It outperforms all other DM channels.

Datran’s 2009 marketing and media study placed email as the top performing ad channel.

 2. Spend is increasing

More than 70% of marketers will increase spend on email in 2010, according to the DMA.

 3. It’s data driven:

I’m a closet data geek and email is the most trackable of direct marketing channels – a vast array of actionable campaign data can be used to refine approach and underpin…

 4. Advanced targeting:

Today’s email systems have evolved to allow integrations with CRM databases, web analytics and eCommerce system, with tools to allow on-the-fly personalisation and dynamic content based on preferences, behaviour and engagement.

 5. It’s universal:

B2C/B2C, cross-sector, all over the world – email’s strength is ubiquitous.

 6. It’s regulated:

Contrary to popular belief, we’re not spammers: since the Data Protection Act of 1998 and the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003, email is legitimised as ‘Permission Marketing’, requiring a clear opt-in. ISP’s now collaborate with ESP’s to clean-up the industry, flush out spammers and get elicited emails through to inboxes.

 7. It’s fast-evolving:

In the past five years I’ve seen the outsourcing argument overcome, an array of new sophisticated campaign tools and a seismic shift as marketers move from a blast-mentality to a one-to-one lifecycle dialogue of targeted triggered messages.

 8. It’s a relationship tool:

Email builds loyalty and engagement when employed as a core channel in CRM strategies, rather than just a bolt-on sales tool – Welcome/nursery programmes, post-purchase transactional messages, special offers for most loyal customers and reactivation attempts for the unengaged, can combine to drive a quality relationship with subscribers.

 9. We’re getting much better at it:

Email is a bit like Marmite but people are coming round (like, don’t use too much and have it on some quality toast..) The challenges facing the email industry are well-documented: inbox clutter/junk, declining response, deliverability, lack of resource allocated to email. But as the Top 10 points above become widely accepted at board-level, we’re given more scope to help clients and collaborate on a far more effective email strategy.

 10. It’s (quite) good fun:

We have a jolly time here at eCircle Towers and enjoy the often-incestuous machinations of a competitive industry sector, as well as working with bright young(ish) things in marketing teams.

Next decade: email will not die

Enough evangelising: the industry certainly presents many obstacles and it’s definitely not plain sailing being an ESP. Many commentators, perhaps annoyed at email’s quiet ascension, are gleefully predicting the decline or even total death of email in the next decade. But just as email didn’t kill postal mail, RSS didn’t kill email and social networks like Twitter won’t bring about its demise either. Email is like a zombie, it just won’t die (Social Networks are vampires; they’re really hot right now!). It continues to innovate, integrate and complement all other forms of marketing. We’re now all swimming in one great big sociably-networked pond and email is the hook by which online marketers reel in their fish – it’s used for social alerts, invites to connect, transactions, user-generated content, surveys, and so on. I can appreciate that under-25’s love the immediacy of one-to-many status updates or IM for quick banter, but you can’t use Facebook or Linked In to send a personal and credible message (unless you are a recruiter, and that’s a dubious approach anyway).  My Top 10 Future Trends league table follows shortly so watch this space…

Recently, I got to work as a security volunteer for Splash. Splash is an put on by the MIT Educational Studies Program (ESP) where undergraduates teach anything they want to middle and high school students over a weekend.

When I volunteered, I had really no idea what security actually did and was only in it for a fun morning and a free top hat. When I got there, I was put to work helping lost students find there way to registration and then working as a general odd-jobs person. However, I soon got recruited to help answer the security hotline, and soon I was assigned to be assistant to the girl who was head of security. That was a lot of fun. I got to help run logistics and handle relative emergencies for and event with over 2,300 attendees. I left on Saturday afternoon to go study chem with the resolve to come back the next day.

When I got there Sunday morning, I promptly reported for duty. When the security director saw me, she immediately said, “Oh, you’re here. I’m putting you in charge.” So until 12:30, I was in the security headquarters running logistics, fielding phone calls, and helping coordinate things.

One of the weirdest requests I fielded was a call from a teacher in the middle of a class asking us to buy sushi fish. The second oddest event was when we discovered that one of our teachers knew nothing about Splash and that he had been signed up as a practical joke!

It was a really fun weekend, and if ESP ever need security again, I’ll definitely volunteer.

Dear US,

In your latest two posts, what you are describing in those articles is deeply frustrating–and since I can’t run upstairs and scratch on your door, I’m going to think through my own reaction to them here instead. I hope that’s okay.

The initial frustration I have lies with the way these articles represent women who choose not to work and who instead stay home to raise the children. The situations are represented as if families don’t have a choice but to have the mother stay at home, and the father go off to work. There seem to be no conflicts or sacrifices inherent in these choices–the premise is that such choices comply with “Nature” somehow. Hello, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, alive and well.

Unexplored is the possibility that these households have split their labors so starkly because they do not wish to do the work of sharing in itself (you’ve written about this here–the “who decides” question).  The “technology” of sharing is much more difficult and time consuming than the mindless “splitting” of roles. A shared partnership requires patience, and it requires an active process of negotiation (and intense advocating for the importance of one’s own desires, and risk of conflict) between partners.

So when the father who must compensate for the missing income of the wife by working 2x as hard and earning 2x what he would normally earn comes home and performs some token task such as washing the young’un, and these parents are represented by the articles as  being “co-parents,” which is, simply, not what they are doing, the hypocrisy thermometer hits 212.

I think about you and R. Neither are you taking a shortcut by performing the simple act of “splitting” the tasks of supporting a family by outsourcing all the money earning to one partner (the man) and all the child raising to the other partner (the woman), nor are you following traditional man-woman role divisions anyway. In fact, it is not that the method is so hard to understand–it is perhaps only too complicated for those who wish to judge you to bother to understand.  Understanding would take more time, and from the way you describe the parents written about in these articles, they are not very interested in using up time in the interest of complexity or the pursuit of understanding. In fact, these articles are not interested in getting their readers to do much in the way of thinking. But why? Who is gaining from these simplistic and hypocritical representations? Maybe these parents have been invented by news agencies whose function is to create a market of persons–women?–who stay at home and buy things from the pop-up ads on the self-justifying internet articles they read while their nannies diaper their children?! Maybe these articles have been written by people who were once students in the classes I teach–the ones who want every piece of writing to follow a formula—an introduction, three examples and a conclusion that sounds just like the introduction. It’s just too danged hard to follow a complex argument, to think, to embrace ambiguity, to write in ways which witness to the diversity and complexity of what human experience really is like.

The notion that one should “want” to stay home with a baby all the time in lieu of being out in the world enjoying one’s career simply because one is a woman is vexing to no end–but the fact that this is the subtext of these articles, and that they are dated 2009, not 1959, is what is most chilling. It’s so outdated and retrograde that it is not just scary, but als offensive.  Is this an idea which has crept back into vogue, smuggled in on the sleigh of Sarah Palin? Or has it always persistently been there and we must continue to ignore it? (No, too scary to be dismissed as absurd–if we ignore it, it might not go away). Is it alive and well because feminism isn’t? What has happened to our imagination, our creativity, and to our ideals?

How tiresome that people seem to want only the simplest solutions. And how sobering that those who want to do better often fail at it–and not doing something successfully is a hard thing to own up to, to acknowledge publicly. “We are failing at our ideal model of shared parenting, so instead we are just falling into (or at times embracing) easy stereotypes because we are beat” is much more of a mouthful than “we are co-parenting.” US, I will try my hardest not to claim I am co-parenting if I am not co-parenting.

Another thing I wondered, after reading all this, was: if you were a man, and R were a woman at home with B while you pursued graduate study would you still be doing as much parenting as you are doing? Do children for reasons beyond our knowing want their mothers? And if one is a mother, how does one experience (or resist) the strength of that tugging?  My father was a tyrant.  There is no way I wanted him around; whatever limited part of active parenting in which he participated always felt like a punishment to me (and no doubt to him). I preferred my mother, who was at least gentle, if confused. I tugged on her endlessly, and she complied. In fact, I cried for my mother in the face of any substitute presented to me, whether my father or a baby sitter with a bag of candy. My mother did not work outside of the home, nor did she ever wish to, nor was she raised to consider the possibility that there was anything else for her to do. But no doubt, this warped duo of extremely exaggerated gender stereotypes is not the best way to go about exploring the question.

Anyway, why aren’t there any articles about how you are doing what you are doing? Hint?

I often attribute every thing out-of-the-ordinary that happens to me as some sort of psychic experience or sign.  A few days ago, for example, I was working (mental-exercising) on some psychic tests and the ice cubes in the water-glass sitting next to me shifted with a loud “clunk”. When something moves like that, I always think “earthquake” before I even think “psychic” but in this instance, the glass didn’t move, just the large ice cubes. No earthquake. Loudly. I said “hello” as is my practice when books fall off the  shelves or strange noises, like paper crinkling, are heard in my office/study.  This doesn’t happen daily, but often. It’s happened so many times, I seek no explanation, I just accept and move on.  However, I can still be surprised. Once a Star Trek drinking glass full of vintage pencils, scissors and a  cocktail stirrer or two took a flying leap off a near-by book shelf and ended upright, all by itself. That was one of those times I said “whoa…..” and then moved on.

Having said that (as Larry David would say), sometimes a noise is just a noise. Clinking ice cubes, sounding like a drum beat, are just ice cubes settling. Nothing more. A glass leaping off a shelf – well it’s just a leaping glass. That could happen.There is no need to assign a “sign” or psychic label to any movement that has no explanation.   Though Dr. Freud most likely did not say, “Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.…” his much-repeated mis-quote is relevant when it comes to my so-called psychic (PK) events.

I need to keep Freud in mind lest I start believing reality is other than concrete. Sometimes a cigar is just something to smoke.

Segunda Temporada: Code Geass R2

The Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association board of directors recently approved measures to strengthen and clarify requirements for companies to attain certification under the association’s Environmental Stewardship Program. The changes are effective Jan. 1, 2010. 
Compliance with all applicable local, state and federal environmental regulations is a fundamental ESP requirement. To strengthen that requirement, ESP now requires participants to report any violation resulting in a fine exceeding $50,000 to KCMA within 60 days. Resolution of such a violation could result in termination of the participant from the program.
ESP now encourages increased use of low-formaldehyde emitting materials in the production of cabinetry. Points are awarded for participants who use at least 80 percent (formerly 75 percent) particleboard, medium-density fiberboard and hardwood plywood that comply with the emissions limits established by the California Air Resources Board. Third-party certification and labeling are required to demonstrate compliance.
To earn points under the Product Resource Management criteria, 80 percent of particleboard, MDF and hardwood plywood used in cabinets must contain 100 percent recycled or recovered fiber content.

Overview of changes to program:

• Procedures and penalties for environmental violations added
• Encouraged increased use of low-emitting composite wood
• Increased focus on recyclable materials

More than 150 companies/brands are ESP certified.

Sinopsis:

La historia se sitúa en la década de 1910, en una realidad muy parecida a la nuestra, pero en la que la alquimia es posible, practicada y vista como una ciencia, por lo que se debe obedecer sus principios. Trisha, la madre de Edward (Ed) y Alphonse (Al) Elric, muere de una enfermedad cuando ambos son niños. Los dos tienen un gran talento para la alquimia y deciden resucitarla mediante la transmutación humana, una rama alquímica prohibida. En el intento, Ed y Al pagaron un enorme precio: Ed perdió su pierna izquierda, y Al perdió su cuerpo, por lo que su hermano Edward, para que no muriera, sacrificó su brazo derecho y usó su propia sangre para escribir un círculo de transmutación en una armadura que había cerca y así poder atar el alma de su hermano a la misma.

Despues de ese incidente, más decididos todavía a aprender la transmutación humana (esta vez para recuperar el cuerpo físico de Al y las extremidades de Ed), ambos hermanos se marchan para convertirse en Alquimistas Estatales, que es el nombre que reciben los alquimistas que sirven al Führer. Su destino final es hallar la Piedra Filosofal, una misteriosa gema que se dice es capaz amplificar infinitamente los poderes del alquimista y además de hacerlo, ignorar las reglas de la alquimia y su principio del intercambio equivalente: “El hombre no puede crear nada sin dar algo a cambio, para tener, algo de igual valor debe perderse; ésta es la primera ley de la alquimia, la ley del Intercambio Equivalente”

Welcome to Boyd’s Guitar Warehouse, the one stop electric guitar parts shop.  We are an Ebay Store that focuses only on selling used electric guitar parts and the lowest prices on Ebay.  Our main focus is on the major brand guitars such as Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Jackson, ESP, and Epiphone.  We sell all parts from bodies, necks, bridges, electronics, pickups, tuning pegs, locking nuts, and neck screws.

We strarted our business November of 2008 as a part time business.  After seeing the high interest of people  upgrading and building custom electric guitars we started talking about running our business full time and quit our jobs.  Within a week after my wife and I had that discussion I was laid off from my mechanical engineer job without any severence package.  So we decided to go full time into our Ebay business and thought this was our best choice.  This is when we launched our Ebay Store Boyd’s Guitar Warehouse end of January 2009.

Since our decision my wife and I have sold thousands of guitar parts all over the world.  We are selling around 400 guitar parts every month and couldn’t be happier with the decision of helping guitarist achieve their goals of finding that tone or building that guitar that they have always wanted.  We look forward to serving you and your friends on your next order.

I am thinking of a number

Well! If I was going to step on anybody’s toes today, it might as well be Randi (formerly known as “The Amazing Randi”). I guess he is still offering to give $1 million to any person (living or dead, I would presume) who can demonstrate psychic powers to him, (a magician), no less. I haven’t bothered to read the fine print in his offer, because although $1 million is tempting, demonstrating ESP or telekinesis to someone like Randi is as appealing to me as sitting down and eating a bowl of earth worms. (maybe I’d rather eat the worms). So long as no one is able to prove, to Randi’s satisfaction, s/he has psychic powers, the $1 million is safe in Randi’s safe ( gathering money dust and one would hope interest, however paltry that may be these days).

Which is why, rather quietly, there are scientists, all over the globe, working quietly in their laboratories to validate (and replicate) experiments that could, at last, prove psychic abilities. They don’t want the million-dollar bounty necessarily – although it would aid research, but they would like to, once and for all, undo the damage Randi and his ilk have caused people working to advance science (mind science).  I took part in one of these laboratory experiments, several years back. It wasn’t, in any sense, fun, but I was able to demonstrate precognition. Over the years, I also have been “demonstrating” psychic skills for friends and family, and now they are rather used to my ability to open jammed doors, fix broken TV sets, move tumbleweeds, without wind, and so on. During these many years, I have learned several lessons about psychic skills I would like to share in this blog. They are as follows:

1. Every one has extra-senses; just some people are more aware of them (think back to when you were a child, if you can, before the adults drummed the ESP out of you).

2. Practicing psychic skills is like practicing piano, if you want to be a virtuoso. (you can practice psi with  Zener cards or you can go on-line and test yourself at several quality, research-oriented psi sites).

3. No magic or fakery is necessary in psi. For me, psychic moments appear out of nowhere and spontaneously (that is why it is hard, if not impossible to summon them for Randi, or other skeptics,at will). I think Randi and others know how ephemeral psychic abilities are, and that’s why their $1 million bounty is safe.

4. There are many fakes and frauds claiming to be psychics – TV stars, psychic phone buddies, spoon benders. They give the rest of us a bad name. Think of it this way, if all women were considered loose because certain call girls make money, we females would have some tough identity problems, You can’t label the whole psychic universe fraudulent,, because some fakes were unmasked,  just like you can’t label all women easy because of some who make money as pay-per-dates.

If you’re with me this far, maybe you really are interested in discerning if ESP/telepathy/telekinesis/clairvoyance exists. Maybe you’ve had a few of your own ESP experiences, but you’ve dismissed them or ignored them because skeptics like Randi have made you feel like a fraud ( a pretty woman-for-hire, as it were). One good place to check some of the arguments for and against psychic skills is on the site, Live Science, February, 2009 (discussing the movie, “Push”)

So many skeptics (well-known and otherwise) always point to the great Houdini as one skeptic who was bent on outing psychic frauds early in the early 1900s. Well, I know a little bit more about The Great Houdini, the magician, and his skepticism was another one of his illusions — really.

Yes, I would very much like to be a millionaire – with or without Randi – and without the TV show of the same name, but I am going to have to raise my million $$ the old-fashioned way, with hard work and a little help from my “friends”.

Sinopsis:
Fairy Tail cuenta la historia de un joven mago llamado Natsu en la búsqueda de su maestro y padre adoptivo Igneel que resulta ser un dragón. Por ello se unió a Fairy Tail, un gremio de magos que es famoso por los destrozos y daños que provocan en diversas ciudades (lo cual no debería ser así). El mundo de Fairy Tail gira alrededor de los magos (los cuales poco tienen que ver con la idea general del mago común) que realizan encargos a cambio de dinero, similar a un cazarecompensas. Natsu conoce a Lucy, una guapa muchacha cuyo sueño era ingresar a un gremio de magos, específicamente, a Fairy Tail, lo cual consigue gracias a la ayuda de Natsu. De ahí en adelante, la historia sigue los movimientos de esta pareja de magos los cuales se ven envueltos en un sin número de aventuras antes de conseguir la meta final de encontrar a Igneel.
