SELF REFERETIAL SPACE

A Space Station is an architectural structure different from any structure on Earth for two main reasons.

The first is that there is no gravity, unless recreated by centrifugal force, and has been the basis of our reflection for the Space station for the prejury.

The second, which is the source of our experiments and the basis for developping the design of the Station, is that NO ONE WILL SEE THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING, apart when the SG-20 spaceship when it docks onto the Station.

For people to see the Station, they therefore will have to see it FROM THE INSIDE. We consequently have to design a SELF-REFERENTIAL SPACE.

We have conducted several experiments to lead us in the design of this space.

Reference – ARTICULATIONS: When thinking about a self-referential space, we used this object as a reference because it has the particularity of being constituted of different spaces which can be taken apart as well as being transparent.

Experiment 1 – CIRCULATIONS: From the basic cylindrical form induced by the centrifugal force, we have tested a network of organic circulations.

Experiment 2 – BLACK BOX : From a very basic “black box”, we have created a cube that opens to form a void at the center. Left on its own, the four cubes form a curve along their linked side.

Experiment 3 – EXPANSION: In a transparent container full of water, we created accidents by dropping black ink. The expansion of the ink is the source for a form of circulation between the different spaces.

CONCLUSION:

We have decided to link the results of the different experiments to create our Space Station.

The basic layout of the Station is influenced by the black box experiment and the experiments on circulation and expansion add new paradigms.

Paradigm 1: The circulations link the center of the Station to the periphery. They can have very different slopes because the gravity is low. They have to be transparent to avoid hindering the view of the station.

Paradigm 2: Left on its own, the black box unfolds along a curve, this accident is the source for the general form of the station. In any given space, an ariculated shape takes the form that PUTS THE LESS STRAIN on the structure. The Space Station will therefore follow a curve in its developpment.

Paradigm 3: The expansion of the Space Station from its core to the periphery follows the curves designed by the ink in the water. It EXPANDS in one direction, but with organic curves and accidents in its trajectory.

The black box therefore will not just open in the inside, but rather UNFOLD TOWARDS THE OUTSIDE, creating a structure expanding along a curve with organic circulations linking the different spaces.

As the holidays approach, islandistas have been making some moves on the modelling scene – both the professional catwalkers and the celebs.

Selita, Selina and Shena have all been visible recently.

Teenaged newcomers, Martinique’s Selina Khan and Jamaica’s Shena Moulton, both scored holiday campaigns for Gap. Selina is featured in the American Gap posters, getting skippy with other models in a red flannel look, while Shena is part of the crew backing up rapper Pharrell in the Japanese Gap promo. Sean “Diddy” Combs turned the big 4-0 with a black-tie celebration at the ritzy Plaza Hotel in New York City on Thursday (Nov. 19). The star-studded event drew the likes of Jay-Z, Bono, Young Jeezy, Nelly, Estelle, Cassie, Rick Ross, Lupe Fiasco, Martha Stewart, and Kim Kardashian. Trey Songz and the legendary Al Green performed for the birthday boy.

First producer who is dabbling in something a bit different is Rusko. The track is “Step” by Kid Sister featuring Estelle. To be honest Rusko has not ventured to far from his comfort zone, the track uses Rusko’s track “To Da Floor” with Kid Sister providing her unique style to the track and Estelle giving it a nice chorus. It is a cool track and I really like Kid sister on it, it brings something a bit some standard Rusko dubstep.

Next up is the ever popular Chase and Status producing for Rihanna. The track they made is “Wait Your Turn”. This is a wicked track, I do think Rihanna has a great voice and this track is a winner. The track is a slightly more conventional R&B/Pop beat, but a heavy bassline comes with it. I’ve got say its a tune and guys have done well here.
