The bad thing is that I lost my umbrella ella ella ella….again. This is the 2nd time. I’m not so good at keeping them. I should get a new one. Good thing I still have my hoodie.

So I have 3 freelance stories due in a week with a fourth due shortly thereafter and not a one of them is completed. So I have punished myself with no yoga or cats until I finish, which explains why I am locked in a basement coffeehouse shamelessly watching people as if I were watching a movie.

Seriously. This guy just totally threw himself at this girl and I thought for sure she’d reject him but she seemed genuinely interested. And then.. he left! He left without her number. I almost shouted out for him to GET HER NUMBER. I wanted to run over and sit with her and tell her he’d be back. And then… like a scene from a Matthew McConaughey movie… he came back.

He came back in and he got her number. I could have just died.

Shit. Can you tell I haven’t started working yet?

AH! Someone sent me a veritable vegetarian bible and Stew tells me it’s from my dear friend Sandwich (who is actually not a lunch item but a real person with an awesome nickname) but I have yet to confirm or deny. I trust she checks this frequently enough that I’ll hear back within the hour. WINK.

This book… this book is amazing. Mark Bittman is awesome because he’s not actually a vegetarian but he identifies the importance of shifting toward a primarily vegetarian diet for reasons of health and sustainability. And as a non-vegetarian he has done a pretty damn good job of creating a comprehensive collection of everything vegetarian. I am so excited to read and prepare everything in this book.

Miley Cyrus no dia 23 de novembro de 2009 completou 17 anos! para quem nao acompanha o blog, nao sabe o tanto que eu sou fã dela! Fico feliz em saber que ela está feliz com sua série, com seu amor -nick jonas- e com sua vida! De acordo com o site globo.com miley no seu aniversário ganhou um grande presente: ela foi liberada de um processo que ela estava sofrendo com uma foto que consideraram racistas, a foto nada mais era que ela e suas amigas puxando o olho e parecendo asiaticos… para alguns isso foi motivo de preconceito e muito tumulto. Concerteza a disney irá fazer uma grande comemoração por esse dia, já que a miley é uma das estrelas que mais rende $.$ no canal!

Dando um rolé no Youtube eu lembrei de um video muito legal e emocionante da Miley… para quem acha que ela é vaga*, pira* entre outros palavrões esse vídeo vai calar a boca de todos : x pq ela fez esse show beneficente e ainda nao cobrou pela apresentação e ainda vai doar 10% de cada ingresso da sua turne até o final desse ano para uma instituição contra o cancer! Parabens pelo seu aniversario e por essa belisima ação miley, sei que vc nao va ler isso no meu humilde blog, mas já me sinto stisfeito com esse micro presente que le ofereço!!! video ♥

Bafta la oral!

On Saturday evening, my husband and I felt like sitting somewhere cozy and dim to enjoy an apperativo. We entertained the idea of heading uptown to a hotel bar, but we were on the Vespa and I was freezing so we decided to stick closer to home.

We decided to try Friend of a Farmer on Irving between 18th & 19th. We have eaten outside in the summer, but we had never been upstairs in the colder months. It was just what we were looking for. It felt like we were truly friends of a farmer who invited us to dine in their home.

The drink list was very interesting with cocktails that contained ingredients that are perfect for the season – apple cider, pumpkin, pomegranate, etc. I tried one with cucumbers, lime, red grapes, and gin - it was a little too messy for me since they literally smashed the ingredients on the bottom of the cup so I was primarily drinking seeds. I will just try another drink next time!

The menu is full of fresh ingredients that you would expect to eat on a farm – corn bread, country pie, chicken pot pie. There are also other items that don’t scream FARM but still give you that homey, cozy, warm feeling when you’re eating them.

They even have their own bakery where they use the freshest and finest ingredients to bake hot muffins, cookies, brownies and assorted loaves of bread. Many of their desserts are seasonal, which means you can find the perfect flavor for the time of the year -  pumpkin pies and muffins for Thanksgiving, warm apple pie for the cold winter months, and a rotating list of berry pies ranging from Blueberry to Cherry to Three Berry.

My husband and I both want to bring our parents the next time they visit us in NYC – it is the perfect spot to sit for hours while catching up. I like to consider myself a friend of this farmer!

I have ranted aplenty previously about the sheer stupidity of IEEE Xplore, and it now seems that ACM is trying to steal some of that spotlight. The ACM publications board has decided to shut down some of the most useful resources available on the web for indexing recent conference papers, such as Tim Rowley old famous SIGGRAPH paper webpages, and Ke-Sen Huang’s more recent incredible effort. ACM Publications Board, meet the Streisand effect. I’m sure you’ll get along very well.

Drs Boisvert, Rushmeier and Ozsu:

I have just finished grad school and have started receiving invitations to join the ACM as a member. As I have been a student member of ACM SIGGRAPH for the last couple of years, I have given serious thought to becoming a full member of ACM. I did so despite there not being a single ACM service I could think of that I routinely used day-to-day. Google has won, and the services it provides me are better than your indexing tools. Still, I understand and agree with the ACM goal, stated on your website, to “provide [...] its members and the computing profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources.”.  As I am sure you are aware and agree with me, computer science research has a huge impact in industry, which in turn changes people’s lives. This is meant to be, and is a good thing. All dissemination of computer science research is morally right. Stopping it is wrong. The goal of the ACM is to push computing forward. With your decision of disallowing listing of recent publications, you are holding it back. You are putting the ACM in a morally wrong position, one which will ultimately lose, and most importantly, will simply not achieve your goals. In fact, what are your goals, exactly?

With this recent decision of disallowing linking to webpages that contain the author’s original work and is clearly meant for dissemination, you put me in the uncomfortable situation of wishing you didn’t exist. If the ACM were not here right now, Google would still exist, and I would still find those papers (as a matter of fact, I still can!). So you turned ACM into a tool for making it harder to disseminate research. Please realize that the proverbial horse has left the barn, about ten years ago. ACM should be setting the example, and it seems to be utterly failing to do so.

Please make me want to be an ACM member again – make me want you to still exist. Reconsider this wrong, ineffective, poorly-conceived decision. People vote with their feet. I know I will.

and if I make out of this semester alive, I’ll be one happy girl!

I’m so disappointed though. This has been the worst semester academically since I made the decision to go back to college after returning from Wyoming in 2006.

I’m also disappointed in my major. Being a broadcasting major isn’t what I expected at all!! It’s mostly television, and I feel like that I’m being shortchanged in that regard because I have almost no desire to do anything in television except write. There is precious little that has to do with radio broadcasting.

I don’t know if I’m at the point where I’d want to change my major (and possibly delaying my graduation even further) just yet. But the thought has crossed my mind.

First and foremost, I’m going to spend my winter break trying to solve the mystery that my health has become in the last year. It’s just too much to ignore any longer.

Then, I might do other things to get ready for the spring semester. Like get completely 100% well, so that I don’t lose anymore time to being preoccupied with what the hell’s wrong with me.

i recently had the opportunity to be part of a little movie magic with my good friends over at kaboodle. if the experience taught me nothing else, it’s that my face gets good and shiny under those hollywood lights! thank goodness two makeup mavens were on hand to keep me matte but it’s too bad those miracle workers can’t follow me around in my daily life. a fellow kaboodler swears by these rice powder papers and has gotten me happily hooked. absorbent on one side and just the teensiest bit of sheer powder on the other, they are perfect for beating back a glistening cupid’s bow (and i apparently happen to have one that’s particularly demanding!). they come in four shades to match various skin tones and leave your existing makeup untouched. bra-vo!

Nearly Black Friday that day where everything is frick’n is on sale. Where everyone would wake up at 4 a.m in the morning to wait in line in stores so they can get their hands on for new toys, technology and gifts for the holiday season. Ohh…. how I love the holiday preparation rage that people get so worked up for. For the past few years Black Friday item searching hasn’t been so lucky for me…

This year is will probably be a better Black Friday, I hope. I have been searching threw black friday deal ads and looking for what I wanted at which stores. Been seeings some good deals lately but, hopefully can get my hands on some of those items. Here are some items I’ve been looking at Best buy mostly and some other stores.

A bunch of good blu-ray and Dvd deals so far with most of them under 20 dollars! Can’t wait to see if Microcenter is going to put up some good sales deal this Friday also PS3 having a lot of good console bundles at Bestbuy and Walmart. Oooohh just so many goodies. I hope I don’t get my ass trample while waiting. : (

Here’s a hint to continuity of time and space as we try to trace it with our lives.

We snag a glimpse of meaning on the periphery, and attribute meaning widely – stretch it out to cover everything, bestow our forms and principles upon all we encounter. We look into history for patterns, into literature for universals, into religion for order. It’s a kind of spiritual insurance. We want to believe the forces in our lives are meant to align, and if not in the direct path of our lives, well then, at least on the edges. Much of the harmony we seek’s there to grab if we’ll have it. Words, people, even objects become weighed down by our additions.

Making a packing list now since I catch my flight to Cairo tomorrow. The great 17th-century English poet John Milton is joining me. Expect photos, thoughts, lots of sand.
