Mark 8:34-38
Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”

As the pressure from the Pharisees mounted on Jesus to make the world doubt him, he traveled from place to place sharing the gospel because he knew his time was short and there were many who need saving. He dint fight back with the Pharisees because he knew how futile it was to try and change the mind of the hard hearted who had no space for a messiah in their lives. Today’s passage is one that most of us have heard but don’t enjoy much because these are not words of encouragement to the world. Instead, they are words of caution and only a genuine follower of Christ would see the sweetness of what the Lord was saying.

I am the sort of person most people might think of as nice whereas in reality I had some serious issues with sin. I still have areas of difficulty and not to turn back to my old ways is very hard. If there has been change, it was only because the Lord has enabled it in me. However, the big issue is that sometimes, we feel like God would understand if in our humanness we faltered a tiny bit. Unfortunately, that is Satan tripping us into our old selves and we need to always stand guard. To be able to witness real change, we need to hand over the reins of our life to God. When we do so, we will look foolish and ‘uncool’ to the world and might face persecution for it but we will be giving God glory. Are you willing to be shameless to the world for God to transform you and gain victory over sin or do you want to gain the world and loose eternity with God?

How does one promise eternity? To whom should you promise this? After a long wait for that right woman to come along and for a long time you have spent time with her, you have finally come to realize that you don’t want to let her go. So a promise needs to be sealed.

A 4 carat diamond engagement ring will be a perfect ring for your woman you want to marry and it will be the most valuable gift that you can give her. This can be a promise of what you can endure for her and the things you have in store for her.

Not only that, the 4 carat stone in the ring that you are about to give will hold the promise that she will hold dearly to her heart. And the expensive value of the engagement ring will make it her value the vow that you have.

Now when you choose the right diamond engagement ring, you can think of her and try to associate the ring with her as you look at the different styles one by one. Knowing what she likes should not be hard for you anymore anyway.

Also this diamond engagement ring will be a very big ring because of the size and the weight but then the band so a simple band will do. But there are 4 carat rings there that are cut in a shape that will make it appear smaller to make it simple,

Although you can still add more elegance to the 4 carat diamond engagement ring. Platinum bands will make the stone very nice to look at with a few stones at the band, like that of Jessica Simpson’s engagement ring. Simple but elegant.

This diamond engagement ring is made more interesting when it has color or when it is cut in a different shape. But then again the most ideal would be the colorless type of the ring because it will project the elegance of the 4 carat diamond so also consider that.

Choosing the style of the engagement ring for your bride to be is one thing that you need to think about and the use of best judgment will make it really special and makes the upcoming wedding really more exciting. After all, the fact that you want to give a 4 carat diamond engagement ring to the one you love is already a proof that the wedding you have in store for her and the lifetime you promise her is something far more than what she expects it to be.

These are words often repeated after death has ended the physical suffering and mental anguish of so

These are words often repeated after death has ended the physical suffering and mental anguish of someone who has endured much for an all-too-long period of time. Loved ones, having witnessed horrific suffering, feel relief that the ordeal is finally over for their parent or sibling or friend or whomever. “Well, at least she’s in a better place.”

That may be true, and then again, it may not be. As one who has presided over many funerals and graveside services, I neither preach someone into heaven nor into hell. I believe in the reality of both, but the eternal Judge determines that deceased person’s fate.

We must not be glib about eternity. Our loved one may be in a better place, but he is in the presence of God only because he is God’s child, having turned from his sin and believed on the crucified and resurrected Lord Jesus Christ. The person in that better place than this fallen world is there only because Christ bore his sin upon the cross, taking the wrath of the thrice-holy God for the repentant one’s sin and pronouncing the believer righteous.

For our sake he [God the Father] made him [God the Son] to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21, ESV).

Otherwise, that loved one will languish in hell for eternity, separated from God and from all hope. This reality, though pooh-poohed by atheists and “Christian” liberals alike, will not fade away like a bad dream simply because one believes it unthinkable that a loving God, if indeed there is a God, would cast anyone into hell. Jesus himself spoke without ambiguity.

Then he will say to those on his left, “Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels” (Matthew 25:41, ESV).

A better place? I sincerely hope so, but it isn’t so just because we wish it. May our loved ones know the only One who will receive them unto that better place, in his presence, for eternity.

Mark 7:25b-30 A woman whose little daughter was possessed by an evil spirit came and fell at his fee

Mark 7:25b-30
A woman whose little daughter was possessed by an evil spirit came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, born in Syrian Phoenicia. She begged Jesus to drive the demon out of her daughter. “First let the children eat all they want,” he told her, “for it is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.” “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “but even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” Then he told her, “For such a reply, you may go; the demon has left your daughter.” She went home and found her child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

I wonder if I would have the wisdom of the Syrophoenician woman when Jesus speaks to me in parables because I consider myself very dumb when I read passages like this one selected above. This lady came to Jesus in pain and had a desperate need for Jesus’ miraculous touch on her daughter who was demon possessed. However, she was not Jew and Jesus was there to save the lost sheep of Israel. Would she have any place before a foreign God whose objectives seemed different? In times of desperation, do we seek anything that will give us a solution to our problems?

What Jesus asked her was whether it was right for him to turn his attention to the gentiles before he was done with the Jews and her response showed him that she knew Jesus was here to save sinners, not just a race of people. She must’ve noticed it in the sarcastic language Jesus used to describe gentiles or in his manner of speaking but her answer was apt. I often feel like a servant before Jesus, my Lord, whose crumbs I am not fit to take. In Christ, we have victory from the dominion of sin and suffering because through his death and resurrection, we have the hope of eternity. We all have needs and I know today the Lord speaks to me as clearly as he speaks to you that he wants for us to put our faith in him and know that he will answer our pleas in an amazing way!

this stuff works. I still can’t believe it, but I started to use it on Friday and today I am down to only smoking at work. And I will quit that too.

They sell it in different flavors and in different nicotine levels like real cigarettes. I wasn’t aware I smoke the NO nicotine one until I read the package from those cartridges. And I was amazed that I liked it even without nicotine. There is nothing in it like tar or all the other thousands of chemicals that are in real cigarettes.

You can smoke it anywhere, cause it isnt smoke, it is vapor and it doesnt smell. IT doesnt give you a bad taste and it has no aftertaste. It is just grrrrrrrrrreat!
Check it out

But it does give you the kick, it gives you the smoke which is a water based vapor. It is great.
I checked out different companies who sell it, and this one is by far the best. The price is good and you get a whole bunch of stuff with it.

Just thought let everyone know in case you are trying to quit or know someone who would like to, it really works.

It’s one of these nights I need to talk about him. Again.
I’m sorry.
But you know what, I’m sick of this…planet. This world. I can’t stand another minute of being here and now. My dreams. That’s what’s ruined me.
Why did I have to be so over-natural?
Why did I have to dream…?
As I’ve stated before (see: When Did My Heart Go Missing) I’ve been having really weird dreams. Alive dreams. With him. What is he?
I came to the conclusion that he is my “soulmate”.
If that’s what I can call it.
God…it’s hard.
I know I will never be happy with normality.
All my relationships are ruined because of me looking for him in every breath, in every single moment. I miss him.
And there’s no way I can find him.
I’ve tried everything there is to communicate.
But no.
Seems that even my only talent, to search into people’s minds has shrunk with time. I want to do that again.
Sometime.
People around the world move objects with their minds, hypnotize, make things happen…. Generaly… Supernatural things. [I'm tired.]
[Can't be coherent.]
Why can’t I find my gift again?
Why did I have to overthink it?
Now I’ve lost him.
And I’m more alone than I ever was in my entire life.
Because a part of my soul is missing.
Dammit.
Drama queen all over again.
Don’t mind me.
I’ll go to sleep.
Nothing makes sense.
Nothing is worth it when I’m awake. Sleeping should be my only option. And maybe someday death. If I find the courage.
That I won’t.
Because I’m too curious for what’s gonna happen.
And because I love.
People. Around me.
I wouldn’t do that to them, right…?

Sleep.
Goodnight.

-Free…?

60On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?”

61Aware that his disciples were grumbling about this, Jesus said to them, “Does this offend you?62What if you see the Son of Man ascend to where he was before! 63The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. 64Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus had known from the beginning which of them did not believe and who would betray him. 65He went on to say, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him.”

66From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

67“You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.

68Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

The Last Line of the Apostles’ Creed

We’re almost there! Today we look at the last line of The Apostles’ Creed — I believe in the life everlasting. And so the Creed that began with Creation — I believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth — now ends without an end. We affirm our belief today that this life is not all there is, that there is a life that extends beyond our ability to see or know completely and that is the life everlasting.

You will remember that last week we spoke about the resurrection of the body. We discovered that we are not disembodied spirits — that’s Greek or Roman thought, not Christian theology — but rather we are given new bodies, changed bodies, spiritual bodies unlike anything we can imagine.

Some scholars speculate that this line of the Creed was added at a later date, and that is entirely possible. The reason it was added, some think, is because in both Greek and Latin the word for “resuscitatation” and “resurrection” are the same. But there is a big difference in the two ideas.

Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, was resuscitated. Jesus brought him back from the dead — and he really was dead and everybody knew it. But Lazarus died again. So, perhaps some of Jesus’s followers were confused at the idea of the resurrection of the body. It’s great to be raised from the dead, but were they going to die again?

This last phrase clarifies and expands on the phrase we looked at last week — “I believe in the resurrection of the body.” So, not only are we going to be raised from the dead, we aren’t going to die again. That’s the whole point of “resurrection” — resurrection is the defeat of death and the triumph of life, and this phrase in the Creed affirms that the resurrection life in Christ goes on forever — everlastingly.

But what of this life everlasting? The renowned skeptic and atheist, Bertrand Russell, said that the worst thing he could think of was an eternity that did not end because it would be incredibly boring. I must agree with Russell in the sense that I do not look forward to eternity either if it’s going to be boring. Fortunately, the life everlasting is not boring. Let’s take a look at what we can find out about it from the passage we read today, and from others as well.

The Life Everlasting Is Given by Jesus and Sustained by God

Jesus is teaching at the synagogue in Capernaum, the city he went to after he was rejected in his hometown, Nazareth. There is some support for the ancient belief that Simon Peter’s house was in Capernaum, and that Jesus stayed there while in the city. In Capernaum the ruins of a 4th century synagogue were found about 1900. But, it was almost 100 years later that archaeologists discovered that the 4th century synagogue had been built upon the foundation of a much older structure from the 1st century. That foundation was most likely the foundation of the synagogue in which Jesus delivered this “Bread of Life” message.

This is very early in Jesus’s ministry, and his references to eating his flesh and drinking his blood are totally lost on the disciples. His hearers still don’t get it even when he says –

“This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever.”

They do understand the reference to manna in the desert. This of course was the way God provided, the way God sustained the lives of the people of Israel during the 40-years they spent wandering from the captivity of Egypt to the promise of the land of Canaan.

You know the story — because they are nomads, pilgrims, they cannot stop to plant and harvest. God provides from them each day an amount of manna which was sufficient for that day’s provision. On the day before the Sabbath, God provides two days’ worth so they do not have to do the work of gathering on the Sabbath.

Now flash forward to the New Testament, to Jesus teaching his disciples how to pray. We call it The Lord’s Prayer, and in it Jesus tells us to pray for God to “give us this day our daily bread.” Just as God had sustained Israel in the desert one day at a time, Jesus reminds us to pray that God will do the same for us.

And, that daily sustaining comes from God, both now and in eternity. Jesus is the Bread of Life, and God sustains us in eternity through the work of Christ on our behalf. In other words, the life everlasting is a life provided by Jesus and sustained by God. The life everlasting is similar to God’s provision for Israel, but something greater and more lasting than the manna. After all, those who ate the manna all died. Those who partake of the life of Christ all live.

The Life Everlasting Is a Difficult Idea

Some of those who heard Jesus had real problems with what he was saying, and John says “many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.” They turned back to what? To their old beliefs, to their old way of life, to their old ideas and old fears.

They turned back because they could not believe that anything greater than the Exodus experience could ever happen to the people of God.

They turned back because they could not believe in life that goes on forever. After all the first century was a difficult time. Life was hard, conditions were rough, mortality was high, hope was in short supply. This business of another life, a life eternal, a life everlasting was too mystical for them.

They turned back because they missed the real work of God.

And, here’s where we need to spend some time. Here’s what most of us have heard and believe:

God created and loves us, and God has a wonderful plan for our lives.

Sin has separated us from God.

God sent Jesus to die on the cross and rise from the dead to bring us salvation.

Trusting in Jesus is the way to gain eternal life.

Basically, what I have just outlined for you is “The Four Spiritual Laws” or the plan of salvation, as it was called years ago. And, that’s what we believe. That’s what I believed when as a 6-year old Primary boy I gave my life to Jesus. That’s probably what you believed, too, when you accepted Christ and became a Christian.

And, there’s nothing wrong with that. But there is a more complete way to look at what God is doing, and why we have or need eternal life.

First, eternal life isn’t an after-thought, as in, “Oh, now I’m saved, and so I guess part of the deal is I get eternal life.” Eternal life is the main thought.

The only problem with the Four Spiritual Laws approach is its like looking through a microscope at a tiny part of the universe. You can see that part really well, but you really should be looking through a telescope to get the big picture. Here’s the telescope view of what God is doing and why we need and want life everlasting:

God did create us, but God also created the world, the universe, the Garden of Eden, all the plants, animals, the earth, the sky, the oceans, the fish, the air, all living things, and us — human beings. So, we are part of and one of God’s creations.

Everything is going along just fine in this new world that God has created. So well, that God sees everything God has made and says after each and every creative act — “That’s good.”

And when God creates humankind, Adam and Eve, we are the high point, the culmination of creation. We are uniquely made in the image of God, and God breathes into us the breath of life. The word for breath and spirit in Hebrew are the same, so in essence God breathes the Holy Spirit into us this new creation we know as mankind. So far so good.

God places Adam and Eve in a lush, wonderful fully-stocked garden. They have to do a little caretaking, but basically all their needs are met, including companionship with God. Everyday, God meets them in the garden.

Until one day, Adam and Eve don’t show up to walk with God. God goes seeking for them, finds them hiding because they are ashamed at their nakedness. God knows what has happened, but God leads Adam to confess that he has sinned, he has disobeyed God. Adam confesses that he sought to be god himself, rather than obey God. Of course, Adam tries to lay the whole business off on Eve, but God is having none of it.

So, everything God has done is messed up. The Garden of Eden is now off-limits to Adam and Eve. They whole deal is thrown off track because of the sin of disobedience to God.

So, God sets about reconciling creation back to God. God calls people to help accomplish this task. God calls Noah to save enough of creation so God can begin again. God calls Abraham to be the father of a great nation. God calls Moses to lead God’s people out of bondage in Egypt. God calls David to be king of Israel, and on and on.

God also calls prophets so God’s voice is always heard, even when the people disobey.

Then God sends Jesus, God-in-the-flesh, Immanuel, God-with-us to reconcile creation.

Jesus lives, dies, God raises him from the dead, Jesus ascends back to heaven, and sends the Holy Spirit.

Jesus calls followers to help proclaim God’s new creation, the new people of God, the new Kingdom of God. Jesus teaches the disciples to pray “thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

God is clearly reconciling creation back to God.

And then, God plans for all of creation to be back in fellowship with God — to be in God’s presence as Adam and Eve were in God’s presence in the Garden of Eden.

So, we get a glimpse of eternity in several passages of scripture, and one of the more interesting is in Revelation.

“So, what’s the difference in the Four Spiritual Laws, and this?” you ask.

Just this — the Four Spiritual Laws approach focuses the microscope on us — God loves us, our sin is the problem, God sent Jesus for us, God will save us. And that’s true.

But, a better perspective is the telescope view — Here’s what God is doing. God is creating, reconciling, and redeeming. God is at work on the whole of creation, not just us. God is putting everything to rights again.

Jesus says in the Book of Revelation, ” Behold I am making all things new.” Jesus doesn’t say, “Behold, I am making all new things.” No, Jesus is making all things — all of creation — new again. Just as it was in the Garden, just as God intended.

Our own personal salvation is a microscopic part of God’s greater plan to fix everything that went wrong. And we find ourselves being invited to get fixed, and get in on what God is doing for all of creation.

So, I’ve said all of that to say that eternal life doesn’t start when we die. Eternal life started when God created the world. We did not exist before our birth, but when we make our appearance on God’s stage, that is when eternal life begins.

The Life Everlasting Isn’t Just About Time

But, the life everlasting, eternal life, isn’t just about time. We tend to think that eternal life is just about life going on forever. But it’s more than that.

Eternal life is about life with God. In Revelation 21:22, John says, “I saw no temple in the city, for its temple is the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb.” In other words, God is right in the middle of his people.

And, this is the New Jerusalem, the New Heaven and the New Earth. This is creation made again into what it is supposed to be. But this time, we’re not in a Garden, we’re in a city, a gigantic, three-dimensional city that sings!

And, in the words of the Isaac Watts’s Amazing Grace –

When we’ve been there ten thousand years

Bright shining as the sun,

We’ve no less days, to sing God’s praise,

Than when we’d first begun.

No, everlasting life isn’t about time, it’s about life with God. It is everlasting because God sustains it. It is everlasting because the giver is The Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the End. It is everlasting because His Kingdom shall know no end. It is everlasting because there is no place else to go, and nothing else to do. When you’re in the presence of God, there is no other place to be.

And so we sing with the saints who have gone before us –

Come and go with me to that land,

come and go with me to that land,

Come and go with me to that land where I’m bound.

No more crying in that land,

no more crying in that land,

no more crying in that land where I’m bound.

Come and go with me to that land,

come and go with me to that land,

Come and go with me to that land where I’m bound.

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

How Shall We Escape?

“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?“Hebrews 2:3

The salvation which God freely offers to all mankind is not a thing to be trifled with. Our acceptance or rejection of His mercy has eternal ramifications. The words of Hebrews 2:3 propose to us a question of unspeakable weight and consequence. How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation?

It is a fatal mistake to make light of Christ and salvation. If the sinner could but once see himself as God sees him, if he could see his sin and misery, he would be brought to value a Saviour, just as a hungry man values food and a thirsty man values water. While sin is made light of, Christ and salvation will be made light of. When sin is perceived an intolerable burden, then the sinner must have Christ or die.

Do not suppose that eternity is distant in time. Many neglect salvation because they believe they have plenty of time. Most people intend to repent someday. “The sinner of today resolves to be a saint tomorrow.” This is as much true of older people as of youth. They are always purposing, but never following through. 2 Corinthians 6:2 addresses this issue. “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” “To-day is important because every day that is spent in indecision or in rejection of Christ strengthens in your heart the cord of rebellion that holds you away from Christ.”(Louis Albert Banks)

God has shown that he is unwilling that sinners perish. He takes no pleasure in their death. “As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live.” Ezekiel 33:11 God is long-suffering and gives men a sufficient and fair opportunity to repent. “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

God, in his dealings with men, makes them sensible of their helplessness and unworthiness before He appears in His mercy and love to them. He sets before them the strongest motives for turning to Him and waits upon them with great patience and long-suffering. At the same time, He declares that if they do not come to repentance in this life, they shall surely perish in the judgment of ungodly men. “And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment…” Hebrews 9:27. The impenitent will be left wholly without excuse. They have been warned.

God is continually speaking to men in His word, in His providence, and by His Spirit. By His judgments He is warning them of their sins; by the disappointments and trials of life He is proclaiming the uncertainty and unsatisfying nature of all creature comforts; by the graves which are opening around them He is reminding them how short their time is; by the mercies which He scatters in their path He is encouraging them to look to Him for favour. Every sentence in the Bible is a voice from heaven to them.

By a written and preached Gospel He is constantly telling them of the design of their creation; that they were placed here to prepare for eternity; that His eye is constantly upon them; that He will presently call them to an awful account; that endless ages of happiness or misery depend on their present conduct; that they have ruined themselves by sin, and are under condemnation to eternal death; that His Son has descended from heaven to redeem them, and stands ready to receive them. He pleads with them with eloquence enough to melt a rock. He warns, He threatens, He remonstrates. Every chapter, every sermon, is the voice of God in their ears. His Spirit seconds all these calls and often fills them with anxious thought. In this manner He cries after them from day to day,—from year to year. But they make light of it. (Edward Griffin)

The Suffering Servant

Consider deeply what it cost the Son of God to procure your salvation. Isaiah 53 foretells the sacrifice and crucifixion of the coming Messiah:”He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”

In this passage, Christ is portrayed as the Suffering Servant. His death on the Cross is the greatest example of undeserved suffering, ever. Christ suffered and died for you personally. He suffered physically and He suffered spiritually. By His death upon the Cross He suffered the punishment, and endured the wrath of God, due for all the sins of all our race.

He gathered up, as it were, into a heap, and bore on His own head all the sins and offenses that have ever been committed, or ever will be committed, in the world, from the beginning to the end of time, and then, of His own accord, took upon Himself the punishment due for them all, sustained and underwent the righteous anger and indignation of Almighty God which they had all collectively incurred; and in so doing restored to us (to all at least who are partakers of the benefits of His Sacrifice) that peace of mind which, so long as we were under God’s wrath, we never could have enjoyed. (Michael Ward Blagg)

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

There is a height and depth, a breadth and length in God’s love that passes knowledge. But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 His is the most extraordinary love. The death of His Son demonstrates to us the unfathomable nature of that love. God is intent on our salvation.

I will end this post with one last quote:

Salvation! What is it? It is a deliverance from sin in its guilt, power, and penal consequences. It is a deliverance from Satan, his authority, power, and dominion. It is a deliverance from the wrath of God, and the bestowment of his best and richest blessing. Salvation is a restoration to the image of God, the smile of God, and the presence of God—or, a restoration to holiness, happiness, and safety. Salvation is for man—for sinners—for sinners as sinners. No qualification is required, no conditions are made, for the gospel says to all, and to each one that it addresses, ” Come, and be saved. Come, and be saved.” Salvation is in Christ, and by Christ alone. It is God’s greatest blessing, and man’s highest privilege. To say that a man is saved, and saved by Christ Jesus, is to say that he is blessed indeed— blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places.

Salvation is By Christ Alone. No one can save but Jesus, for he alone could make a satisfactory atonement for our sin—he alone could produce the righteousness necessary to justify our souls—he alone can exert the power needful to raise us from a death in sin, rescue us from Satan’s power, and conduct us safe to glory. No one has authority to save but Jesus. He is given to save. Given under heaven, among men, being intended for fallen man, not fallen angels. There is no other name or person, whereby we must be saved, but Jesus only. He saves such as we are. He saves freely, by grace and not by works. He saves eternally, not for a time, but for ever. Any one may be saved by Christ, but no one can be saved without Christ. His blood can cleanse any conscience. His righteousness can justify any person. His power will reach any case. If therefore any one is not saved, it is because he has not heard of Jesus, or hearing has refused to come to him for life. Rills from the Rock of Ages
By James Smith

Why would anyone want to make light of this wonderful salvation in Jesus Christ?

The 1st Time Traveler: a gOd-clOck histOry Of the universe

History Of The Universe With A Local Emphasis On Earth

I’ve been doing a little research over the past few decades and came up with this timeline, for any interested in their cosmic heritage.

Using Earth-based nomenclature, I resort to the terms God, Big Bang and Evolution for simplification. I have my own names for them unburdened by cultural biases and more accurately attuned, but let’s not get complicated.

The Constant is my term for what would scientifically be referred to as the quantum foam from which all energy and matter differentiate and arise.

I use the term Time Traveling only as a means to convey the fact that God can, once omnipotent, be anywhere Thee wants to be.

To compare the scale of time for this story, units we can relate to such as seconds, minutes and hours will be used instead on such esoteric units as trillionths of a nanosecond. The whole story will be told in a 12-hour period, from Noon to Midnight.

Here, then, is a brief History Of The Universe.

Noon: 12:00:00

The collapse of a previous universe* (see 11:59:58) reduces space to a superheated pinpoint.

12:00:01

A Big Bang splits energy and matter.

12:00:10

Energy and matter re-converge making quarks, atoms, molecules and elements.

12:05:00

Evolution develops God.

12:07:00

God thinks – “I am” – becoming aware of Thyself.

12:12:30

God creates galaxies, stars and planets from the raw elements.

3:00:00

God becomes life forms. All of known history, the present, and the near future. Our total known history, from dinosaur to spaceman, takes place between 3pm and 6pm. “Evil” is now explained. An evolving God required all experiences possible to gain omniscience.

6:00:00

God achieves Omniscience – awareness of everything.

7:00:00

God assimilates the accumulated knowledge of all life forms, aka Heaven/Hell.

Our time in Heaven or Hell extends from 7pm to 9pm. Where will you be between 7 and 9?

9:00:00

God achieves Omnipotence – power over everything.

9:15:00

God reaches across all of Time to rectify suffering and neutralize acts of evil.

11:53:55

God’s Time Traveling activity shortens history to a simple moment of creation. Apparently, God’s rectifications in the last 6 minutes and 3 seconds right up to 11:59:58 alter history, reducing it to a Garden of Eden with nowhere left to go.

*11:59:58

The remaining universe crumbles upon God and comes to an end in fire. Please note the mysterious “moment” of destruction / creation in the last 2 seconds before midnight. This is how long it takes the quantum foam to resettle.

Midnight: 12:00:00

The Constant, that foam of energized matter underlying All, reassembles.

The rest is detail. As you can see, our present manifestation is but a small part of the overall structure of Time. God is a process rather than The Constant underlying Thine. Yet The Constant remains. Indeed, we are God in the making.

In the corridors of existence, that Constant quantum foam might stay dormant for the next 12 hours, as long as it took all of the former universe to be. Only after truly timeless eons might a superheated pinpoint release a Bang once more.

So let’s enjoy our remaining portion of this time together on Earth. I’d say it’s around 4:20 right now.

i’d be curious to know how a 12 yr old reacts to that.

O

I have tried explaining it verbally but I’ve never showed him this. Not yet. I’ll let you know!

Why? What are you thinking? He’s remarkably good at abstract thinking. You should hear him rattle off the mystical powers of Naruto.

i’m thinking it’s a long long distance between your ideas and those of his mom.

and for some reason, ninjas and 12 yr olds just “get” each other. it’s one of the mysteries of the universe.

O

Yeah, secret, our ideas are pretty different – which might partially explain the divorce!!!

I can’t believe I actually married a Republican lawyer in the first place.

O

mOOn….LOL….love your last comment…..because i think the same of my ex husband……i cant believe i actually married a Republican …:-D

I believe this theory is perfectly understandable by a 12…actually i will make my own daughter (13) reading this…highly curious to see her reaction…

See, she goes to church with her father when she is with him…..

I am only concerned about the 12 hours….can you make it lasting longer? 24 hrs at least? And you talk about a previous universe…any theory about that one?

mOOn_platOOn

O

wOw ginger – are we living parallel lives???

I think, somehow, that in the previous universe there were no Republicans. Or no organized religion. Or something cOOl like that.

I don’t think kids should be exposed to religion. That’s an adult decision, as far as I’m concerned. It’s inaccurate to state that without early exposure to religion a spirituality doesn’t develop. All that a child can do is accept what their elders tell them. That’s brainwashing when applied to religion, because clearly religion, like politics, is ultimately a matter of personal choice.

O

Kirkla

I used to hate to have to go to Sunday school and church because I thought that the paintings were depressing and morbid and waaaaaay tooo serious lol >>> but not sure how I’d take to hearing that I’m God myself??!!!!? Hmmmmm. As a kid, I mean. That’s hard enough for me to believe as an adult. Wouldn’t we be aware of this?? But now I’m recalling The Book by Alan Watts where he talks about the Game of Hide & Seek, where God is hiding from himself and seeking himself through us. This is sort of the same idea, I suppose. There’s just something people don’t like about thinking themselves to be God, though. Maybe it doesn’t give us anyone else to blame or take ultimate responsibility??? Nice post!!

gingersoul

mOOn…..i give you another example that its higly possible we live parallel lives….lol…

I used the term ‘brainwashed’ in Beyond post about being an agnostic…i used it referring to the nuns of the private Catholic school that got me under their spell for 6 years during the whole elementary school….you can say the most delicate and impressionable years, right?

So you can imagine how much i have been molded and shaped and blessed with liters of holy water ……still……i am a living example that, even though heavily exposed to religion, once a kid grows up there is always the possibility that they will leave the usual path…and choose to go in opposite direction.
I did it……cold turkey…..glam bam thank you mam…..i left that path at 13 and never went back….

But i do agree with you that religion is a personal choice.
But, again, we are what we are beacuse shaped by what we come from….. its how we evolve from what we have been that makes us who we really are now…..so being us God gives us yes freedom to choose but also blame for choosing badly and leavign us with no one to blame expect ourselves…how many people can take this?

Parallel enough?….lol…

PieterOpie

That doesn’t make a real lot of sense. It is not rational. A universe has no need for a god. A god might have use for a universe but it is unlikely.

There is no proof there was a big bang to begin with. All of this is pure mumbo jumbo……

I beg you return to your notes and try again. Perhaps you dropped a page. Have a look on the floor under your desk……..

BTW…. matter and energy are one and the same, and there is no such thing as good and evil in terms of the space-time continuum.

AMEN.

kruuyai

I just wrote something like this on beyond’s post (although not nearly as succinctly or eloquently or even as well thought out). I love pondering these questions.

Pieter: My interpretation of what he’s saying here is that a god would have a use for a universe, and that’s why it gets created in the first place. One theory I heard recently, that resonates with me, is that we all (not just humans, but all forms, animal, mineral, vegetable, etc.) have a spark of the divine in us, and our purpose is to communicate information to that divine entity (which is an energy, just like we are), and eventually reunite with that entity when we’ve achieved a high enough vibrational level, not to reconstruct that entity exactly as it was, but to make it better… a new and improved version, if you will.

As far as good and evil, those are man made terms, and I think mOOn’s way of explaining a purpose for how we perceive the polarity that exists in all things makes perfect sense. The time-space continuum, in my opinion, is just an illusion that exists only in this universe (as is matter), which is one of many in the multiverse. But that’s all just a theory. None of us really know, do we?

PieterOpie

Oh no you don’t….. If the universe creates a god because it has a role to play there in, then you need a god to create the universe. You cannot have it both ways. You can’t say that the universe is created spontaneously from the megaverse or multiverse because then nothing has been created. The universe would then simply be an extention of the larger existence. That is, the universe is the product of a parent universe (and possibly so on and on….). That is not creation but continuation.

If you say the universe does just pop into reality from nothing (no multiverse) and there was no need for a god to bring it about, then you will not produce gods within that universe unless the nature of that god is extremely limited. That god would not be omnipitent, for example. Where was it before it “evolved”? That god obviously is not all powerful since he cannot even create a universe. I presume when the universe ends then so would that god, since it is subject to the rules of existence. He must follow the laws of physics – as it were.

No – sorry…. Either god is there… at the time when there is nothing but god… or not at all.

However, we are assuming in these cases that there was a beginning and that there will be an end. I assume no such thing. The universe may have always existed and will always do so. Then there is no need for creation and thus no need for a god.

As for our quest to make the stuff of which we are made better…. If we are all part of the divine energy then we are also divine and therefore by definition are already perfect. You cannot improve on perfection.

Again…. you need to look for the piece of paper under the desk. I promise you, it is there. It has the answer on it. I’m pretty sure.

Either that or it is blank…. which means we have to start all over again. D’oh!!!

PieterOpie

I was a bit vague in my first paragraph (above). I mean to say that you can’t create a universe with physics and then develop gods who then create the rest of the place. That makes no sense at all. Either you have gods to create to whole lot, or none of it.

Such a god would not fit the description of what a god is. A god is all powerful and all knowing. A god must therefore always exist before anything else. A god would therefore exist where nothing else exists. Is that possible. If there is nothing can sometihing exist in it?

Do you see a problem here????

mOOn_platOOn

O

I see the problem, Pie. You know that God can’t exist where nothing else does. By definition, “God” (as popularly conceived) is omniscient and omnipotent. There is no reason why God has to start out that way. Hence, later on, the “Time Traveling” aspect. If God evolves like everything else does, physics can result in a full blown universe (in this case nothing is being “created” – it always exists as the quantum foam minimally at the very least) that leads to an initial intelligence. That intelligence begins to act on that which it observes – or interacts with – thus changing it through that interaction (Bohm). Given long enough, intelligent design could well begin to influence the universe. But from there, under these conditions, God itself is also within and of the universe and ultimately subject to disintegration and collapse. If this doesn’t fit the “Hallmark” definition of God, neither does a lot of the behavior attributed to the God of the Old Testament. But who, after all, can call any entity capable of shaping galaxies and stars and planets anything less than a God?

O

mOOn_platOOn

O

Oh, also – you seem to imply that a lesser thing (the universe) cannot result in a greater thing (God), yet that is sometimes the very consequence of evolution, and there is a word for that which is greater than the sum of its parts – synergy. God could be a synergistic result of universal components capable of rising above the “laws” of physics. Then It just might save the universe from cyclic destruction – or send it there even faster for recycling.

O

PieterOpie

I will read your posts again but only if you read mine again. Either you have not understood me or the reverse.

I am not saying a universe cannot be created by god. I am saying a universe would not give rise to a god. That would not make sense unless we redefine what god is. We must speak of the god in the traditional sense. That is one that is “all that” (so to speak). God can do anything – by definition. God can even exist in paradox. He can be and not be simultaneously no matter how much we don’t like it. However I would argue that that is in fact “being” at all times albeit not apparent to us or to god himeself (excuse the masculine anthromorphication of god). If god can exist and not exist before, during or after the universe had been created then I defy god and claim he exists now and that he existed at all those times – whether he likes it or not. (get back in that quantum world god!!!)

I further challenge god and say that I am prepared to accept a paradox for only a very short time before I lose my mortal patience…. I will not tolerate a god who is strong enough to lift a rock so big which he created to be the rock not even god can lift. In other words, can he make a rock so heavy not even he can lift it? Uh oh………..

Can god destroy himself. Can anything else destroy him?

How long did god sit around waiting to get to get bored with nothingness I wonder? What inspired god to suddenly bring existence into being? Or did he merely extend himself so that he became manifest in the universe. Then god and the universe are one and the same. If that is true then all this discussion is moot. None of this matters since then the whole damn thing has always existed and always will. No beginning – no end. If that is true then I see no need for a god. Therefore that makes no sense either.

Frankly I do not believe that god is intelligent. That is a human quality. It is not rational. My image of a god is that he simply is. God does not “do”. He “is”. He does not create nor destroy. He is the stuff and that’s it.

Perhaps god could do anything but he doesn’t. He was supposed to have said “I am”. He did not say “I do” or “I will do – later when I feel like it”.

Anyway…. I need coffee now. God no longer makes my coffee for me. Bye. kissy kissy…..

mOOn_platOOn

O

Yes…yes, we ARE redifining “God.” That’s why I’m not a Christian, etc.

Let’s not nitpick over the term “intelligence.” Although God’s IQ would be off the scale even by MY assessment. Matter and energy – the stuff and the fluff – is indeed one thing in at least two forms. That’s why it might even make sense that half of God was dormant and the other half active, the active acting upon the dormant.

I’ve been reading these posts at work so in the midst of this day (involving a real weirdo who went ballistic and got loud and threatening with everyone before making a dramatic exit) I may have misread or missed something, I do intend to peruse this again in awhile…just got off.

But yes, exactly I’m redefining God and I think that God has 3 manifestations simultaneously, under my theory. Hang on…

O

O

PieterOpie

I sounds like you have one of those toxic sociopathic lunatics at your work place. You know you are duty bound to destroy them. They will make life at work a misery until one of you is dead or fired.

You clearly have no option but to play god and kill the evil prick.

I shall leave you to your plotting and scheming. (muhahaha…etc.)

Toodles…… kissy kissy. Piet.

mOOn_platOOn

O

…[continued]…okay, 3 manifestations simulataneously.

One – The New God, who eventually becomes Omniscient and Omnipotent, but who has created galaxies, stars and planets before achieving such heights, thus is imperfect but powerful…

Two – The Omniscient God – the inventor / realm of Heaven + Hell, the afterlife overseer, the Judge who knows everything and puts your personality where it belongs…

Three – The Omnipotent God – The Time Traveler who interacts with Its own prior forms, as if you could visit your childhood self and co-exist simultaneously. There’s no paradox here. God is now Omnipotent and can do whatever It wants.

I’m wondering if it might even be so that when Omnipotent God meets New God, life forms witnessing the spectacle may think that New God is The Devil.

The perfection attributed to God may be our greatest mistake. You don’t have to be perfect to come across as all-powerful. I suggest the possibility that any God who can DO anything as well as KNOWS everything is going to eventually come to a dead halt – all alone.

To be all-powerful is to be ultimately powerless.

O

mOOn_platOOn

O

Okay Pie, later – and yes, that guy was over the top – not the norm, or God knows (pun intended) I’d quit.

O

O

Oh, Pie, one more thing. Notice that even when “God” is offline, we have that which I call The Constant. There’s no such thing as nothing.

O

You are toying with god. How dare you!!!!

Make up your mind – would you. Either god is the classic “I can do anything” god or nothing. The rest are not gods but very very clever (and probably naughty) boys with too much time on their hands. What do you think the universe is? America????

Get out of it you weirdo….. I reject your reality utterly.

BTW Nothing cannot be – but only for the time being……

You’re stuck in that time loop again. Dammnit Virgil, must you play with that damn contraption? Last time I had to tell you 446 times before you realised it….. <sigh>

well I find it intriguing that the stone master is the one who mentioned 4:20.

Anyways, this would have been nice to have at the beginning of my Philosophy of Religions class last semester.

And even if we look at it this way, people will STILL debate….is God the chicken or the egg, and which one came first?

Very interesting post! You posted this on my blog for me to read, and I hope other readers who venture there will venture here.

Interlude, Arthur

“Arthur,” someone said right behind him. “So, you too, huh…”

Arthur whirled around, staring into the face now in front of him, focusing his eyes and his memory, until said eyes widened in surprise. “You’re…Ishmael,” he said, “But you’re – you’re dead…”

“Bravo,” Ishmael replied, rolling his dark eyes. “What else could I be?”

“A ghost,” Arthur answered at once, “Or else…but if you’re dead, that means – wait, what did you mean by ‘you too’? Where am I? What am I doing here? Where’s Fleance – where’s Three?”

“Arthur,” the usually stone-cold voice was soft, gentle, “You’re dead. I’m dead. You’ve left the earth.”

“I’m dead?” Arthur repeated incredulously. “But I’m supposed to know that, aren’t I?”

Ishmael shrugged. Arthur frowned.

“I’m really dead, aren’t I?” he asked after a moment.

“If you don’t mind me asking – how’d you get here?”

“I – I don’t know,” Arthur replied. “I think it was Three, but I can’t remember all the details…and I think Fleance was there but…”

“I see,” Ishmael said, nodding. A pleasant – albeit awkward – silence passed between the two of them, before he couldn’t resisting killing the moment with a “How was it? Fast?”

“Slow,” Arthur said quietly, after he’d thought about it for a moment, his memory slowly coming back. “Like you.”

“My apologies,” Ishmael said, polite as always. “Painful, wasn’t it?” was his next question, and Arthur was surprised to hear a bit of a wistful tone.

“I suppose…”

“I would give much to feel that pain, once more,” Ishmael said, smiling crookedly. “I would rather be a mortal in extreme agony than live a life up here in perfect idolatry. It gets boring, and I did not do everything I had wanted to do on earth.”

“It hurt a lot,” Arthur said, raising an eyebrow.

“We can’t breathe up here,” Ishmael said suddenly, “Did you know that?”

“We can’t breathe?”

“Well – we can inhale, but there is nothing…if we could breathe up here, mortals would be able to live in clouds. That’s why no living person is around,” he explained, “And yet – do you see the sun?”

Arthur nodded, looking at the sun, which was blazing yellow in the blue sky. Then he realized that he was standing in the sky, except it wasn’t really the sky, and at the same time he could look downwards and see the people on the earth.

“Do you feel the air?” Ishmael asked then.

It felt fresh, wonderful.

“Would you like to breathe in the fresh air?” Ishmael asked, again, in a low voice.

Arthur inhaled eagerly, but it wasn’t the same as going out to the gardens, early in the morning on a clear day, Catalina at his side, where they would stay until late afternoon, lying together and taking in the summer air. He lowered his gaze, stricken. “Isn’t this supposed to be heaven?” he asked angrily.

“No,” Ishmael replied sardonically. “This is not heaven. That is what you would call Heaven,” he pointed, and it was only for the briefest moment, but Arthur swore he saw a giant, magnificent castle nested among the blue of the sky. How he had failed to notice it at first escaped him completely, but even as he stared, it faded out of sight again.

“Why –”

“– are we down here? I don’t know. You could call it ‘unfinished business.’”

“I don’t have any,” Arthur began, but then stopped. Ishmael looked at him knowingly.

“It is the boy, One,” he stated. Arthur nodded.

“How am I supposed to help him now?”

“Well…I have never used this, but some people like dream messaging,” Ishmael shrugged again, “If you want to see him, you could also just watch him. Focus on Scotland. Focus on the castle in Scotland.”

Arthur peered downwards, wondering where he was supposed to look to find Scotland, but no sooner had he thought of the word, in his mind’s eye he envisioned the bit of the island, and then the castle, and he saw the castle. It looked insanely small from an aerial point of view.

The problem was the walls. He turned back to glare at Ishmael, but Ishmael had disappeared.

Arthur decided to lie down, on his stomach, looking down as if from a bed. An invisible surface was beneath him, and he peered over the edge, deeper and deeper, watching the walls of the castle zoom up like in a movie, or a car chase, or whatever.

Then he distinctly heard a female voice:

“…even you would not break them.”

Then he saw the person to whom the voice belonged: Irina.

Then he saw who the person was talking to: Three.

And last, he saw the reason for this dispute: Fleance, lying in a small heap on the ground, one arm bent at an impossible angle. Angrily, Arthur sprang up to do something – anything – but it was like he met an invisible wall that didn’t allow him to communicate with anything on earth. What on earth had Three done to Fleance?”

“…if you let him escape, Five, I will rip you to shreds. Is that clear?” Three asked coldly, “And if you so much as think about leaving…well…I will let you imagine the punishment.”

Three swept out of the hallway, as Irina glared after him.

Arthur watched, frowning, as Irina hoisted Fleance up and dragged him out of sight, towards a staircase, and then as she stopped at a doorway, knocking on it.

“Yes?”

“Get out,” Irina said shortly. A minute later, the door closed and a small, dark-haired figure stepped out into the hallway.

“Wh-what is it?” Four asked nervously.

“Follow me. Don’t ask questions. Don’t talk. Don’t look back.”

“But –”

“What did I just say?” Irina demanded, and then she continued dragging Fleance up the stairs, Four following, looking a little confused and very shocked and rather like she was going to cry.

“Four,” Arthur said.

Four didn’t hear – or maybe he was just not audible. Arthur clenched his teeth in frustration, but followed as well.

Presently, Irina led them to a small room in a tower, where she dumped Fleance onto the bed, and then turned to Four. “You need to hide.”

“Why?”

“Three did this,” Irina pointed to Fleance who looked a little like he was drunk, if a nine year old could possibly get drunk. “He’s going to go after you. Hide.”

“Hide where?”

Arthur recalled that Four was inclined to hide in places. She was quite good a hiding, too. Before he could watch any more, though, a hand jerked on his shirt and yanked him back up.

“What are you doing?” Ishmael asked, “If you want to help the boy, now is the best time to!”

“H-help – what?”

“Give him help,” Ishmael replied, patiently. Arthur had the distinct feeling that Ishmael saw him as a troubling grade school boy. “Send him a dream message.”

“And if you’re kind enough to possibly tell him how,” Arthur said. Ishmael half-glared at him and said,

“Use your head.”

Arthur wondered how his head was supposed to get him into Fleance’s head, but no sooner had he wondered this, there was a whirl of color and he was in a room – a dining room? – shaking his head at a very bewildered looking Fleance.

“You,” he said to the boy, “Are an idiot.”

As I link to the following stories from “News With Views” it should be noted that, because of time constraints, I’ve not read either one. (I do, however, plan to copy both and take them to work tonight.) The first involves the proponents of a global spy agency. Anyone with even a scant understanding of bible prophecy can see where this is headed. The other involves the idolatry of worshipping other people. (Kind of like the Corinthians; some of whom proclaimed “I am of Paul” while others replied “I am of Apollos”.) I link to these because they point to the seriousness of the times.

INTERNATIONALISTS PUSH FOR THE CREATION OF WORLD SPY AGENCY

In an unrelated matter, I ask that prayer be offered up for this family as a major battle is raging in the spiritual realm and manifesting in the physical. It could potentially result in this family being dissolved. It is so imperative to ensure that the Lord Jesus is our first love in everything; regardless of what the fallout may be in the natural. Lately I’ve seen incredible strides forward, but all of that seemed to unravel this morning. I apolagize for speaking in such ambiguous terms, but it’s imperative to not go into detail. “SOULS ARE IN THE BALANCE!”

My thanks to all of the saints in this venue whose fellowship is most needful in these times. In the previous post, a mention was made of the early church in Jerusalem and how the intense fellowship in the early days was a needful time of growth as they would soon be scattered. The same is true for us in this venue. I find a lot of encouragement and exhortation here that would come from no other place. The time will come, however, when this forum will cease and we may eventually find ourselves without any fellowship in a world that has wandered after the beast. Without a doubt, the Lord is preparing each of us for the times ahead and the age to come. The age to come wherein we shall be forever in the presence of the Lord. WOO HOO.

Blessings always in Jesus name.

Prayer is the greatest gift with which God blessed His Son at his creation. It was then what it is t

Prayer is the greatest gift with which God blessed His Son at his creation. It was then what it is to become; the single voice Creator and creation share; the song the Son sings to the Father, Who returns the thanks it offers Him unto the Son. Endless the harmony, and endless, too, the joyous concord of the Love They give forever to Each Other. And in this, creation is extended. God gives thanks to His extension in His Son. His Son gives thanks for his creation, in the song of his creating in his Father’s Name. The Love They share is what all prayer will be throughout eternity, when time is done. For such it was before time seemed to be.

To you who are in time a little while, prayer takes the form that best will suit your need. You have but one. What God created one must recognize its oneness, and rejoice that what illusions seemed to separate is one forever in the Mind of God. Prayer now must be the means by which God’s Son leaves separate goals and separate interests by, and turns in holy gladness to the truth of union in his Father and himself.

Lay down your dreams, you holy Son of God, and rising up as God created you, dispense with idols and remember Him. Prayer will sustain you now, and bless you as you lift your heart to Him in rising song that reaches higher and then higher still, until both high and low have disappeared. Faith in your goal will grow and hold you up as you ascend the shining stairway to the lawns of Heaven and the gate of peace. For this is prayer, and here salvation is. This is the way. It is God’s gift to you.

This is the introduction of ‘The Song of Prayer’, a beautiful part of the Course that is not printed in the book. It’s an incredible read, it resonates to everything in you that is true. Prayer is in fact your natural communication with your Father. You should be in prayer every moment. This doesn’t mean that you have to be in church, on your knees, with folded hands, doing penance. Prayer is active, it happens right here and right now. Every moment you turn your thoughts to God, you are praying. You can do this first thing in the morning, as you open your eyes, as you take your shower, when you drive in your car to work, during work and on and on. Every moment suffices, it only takes an instant to drop every thought, every concern, every idea about pain or suffering or sickness and to think: ‘God’. You will feel an immediate release, joy washes over you, a sense of safety that is not of this world, and a deep knowing that love and light is what you are.

The lessons right now are beautiful prayers and they do direct your thoughts to God instantly. Use them. Today’s lesson is a beautiful prayer and all of Heaven responds when you decide to lay your thoughts of fear and worry aside and pick up the Course to read the lesson. Practice it, use it. Pray.

I merely follow, for I would not lead.

Father, You are the One Who gave the plan for my salvation to me. You have set the way I am to go, the role to take, and every step in my appointed path. I cannot lose the way. I can but choose to wander off a while, and then return. Your loving Voice will always call me back, and guide my feet aright. My brothers all can follow in the way I lead them. Yet I merely follow in the way to You, as You direct me and would have me go.

So let us follow One Who knows the way. We need not tarry, and we cannot stray except an instant from His loving Hand. We walk together, for we follow Him. And it is He Who makes the ending sure, and guarantees a safe returning home.

True Christianity is so difficult for the unregenerate person to comprehend. People are born with an innate understanding that there is a God, and that, because of the hidden wickedness of their own hearts, they are not righteous before this God. So far, so good. But here is where the problem appears. Unregenerate sinners are blind to spiritual truth. Therefore, they grope about in the dark, and come up with this plan: “I will do enough good things to make up for my bad things, and God will be pleased.”

This flies right in the face of God’s revealed truth, which is found in the pages of the Holy Bible (Ephesians 2:9), but it makes a certain type of worldly, humanistic sense. After all, are not people supposed to do good things? The answer is that people are supposed to do good things, but not as a way to make God our debtor. Instead, God, in His grace and mercy, and for Christ’s sake (Ephesians 4:32), forgives us our sins when we trust in Him, and that motivates and empowers us to do good things.

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Colossians 3:13

Notice what comes first in that verse. Christ forgives me first, then I am able to forgive others. Not the other way around: I do not earn Christ’s forgiveness by first forgiving others. The following verses shed even more light:

And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

Colossians 3:14

Charity (self-sacrificing, giving, Christian love) is first the act of God. And it is the bond of perfectness. We are to love others because Christ loved us first, and gave Himself for us. (Ephesians 5:20) Christ’s love is so perfect and its bond is so unbreakable that the natural result is for me to want to emulate it after I have experienced it. However, even when my love fails, Christ’s love is still effectual. For Christ to reject the regenerate would make His love less than perfect, and His bond weak and breakable. These things simply cannot be.

and here I offer my humble attempt at loop poetry..

This is the second variation of Loop poetry.

There we sit

Sit on a seat

Seat of a park

Park full of blossoms, a treat

Treats in red

Red the color of love

Love me, he does

Does he, but know?

Know that I

I too love him

Him, the man

Man of my dreams

Dreams of love

Love so sweet

Sweet like music

Music, the language

Language of the souls

Souls that are intertwined

Intertwined in love for an eternity…!!!

Loop Poetry is a younger sister of Blitz form of poetry… where the last word of the first line forms the first word of the next line and so on..

This poem is on the second variation of the Loop Form where its a continous poem, no paras, no rhyme scheme, no limitation on the number of lines.

For more details on the Loop Form please visit Raji’s Blog

The tag line for this blog is “reflections on life, death, and everything in between.”

The tag line for this blog is “reflections on life, death, and everything in between.” If you’ve been a reader very long, you know that’s an accurate summary of the things I write about. We live, we die; and everything that we say, do, think, and believe in that incredibly brief span of time between life and death has eternal implications.

In our weekly prayer meeting a couple of days ago, we read this verse as part of our corporate Scripture reading:

The memory of the righteous is a blessing, (Prov. 10:7a)

My mom died two years ago today. She was righteous in Christ, and her memory is a blessing to me and others who knew her well. Most of my friends who visited her during her 5 year battle with leukemia told me they came away feeling like she had encouraged them more than they had encouraged her.

Mom is with Jesus now. I don’t base my confidence in that fact on sentimentalism or wishful thinking. When Mom was young she did what the Bible says everyone who wants eternal life must do—she repented of her sin, and gave her life to Christ. He became her Savior and her Master. She loved him and trusted him and followed him (imperfectly, like all the rest of his followers) until the day she died.

I’m afraid there are many who think that as long as you believe in God and try to live a pretty good life, you’ll go to heaven. I want to say this as bluntly as I can—that’s a lie. My goal in this post isn’t to preach a sermon, but if you believe something like that, I can’t urge you strongly enough to pick up a Bible and read one of the gospels. When you’re finished, you might as well go ahead and read the rest of the New Testament. It might save your life. I would love to talk to any of you reading this about what it means to follow Christ. Please feel free to contact me any time, either in person or through this blog.

But for now, I just want to say that I’m thankful for the time I had with my mom. I’m thankful that her body is no longer broken and racked with pain. I’m thankful that she is at this moment indescribably happy; she is, I believe, humbled and amazed and thrilled that she will get to spend eternity worshiping the One who gave his life for a sinner like her.

November 20 two years ago, the day mom died, was a Tuesday, just two days before Thanksgiving. There was no shortage of tears that Thanksgiving. But tears don’t necessarily preclude gratitude. And I guess what I’m trying so hard to say, as another Thanksgiving approaches, is that I’m thankful for my mom: for her life, her legacy, and even for her death, knowing that it was her entrance to unimaginable joy in the presence of Christ.

I have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.
