HOLY FRICKIN’ HOLIDAZE I can’t believe 2009 is almost gone. This time last year, I wasn’t even considering moving to LA. And yet here I am now, smack in the middle of the most creative and exciting underground electronic scene in the world!

Just nu är kanadensiska Chromeo ute på sin DJ Kicks Tour. Och på torsdag (26/11) kommer de till Stockholm för en spelning på Marie Laveau. Senast duon släppte en skiva var 2007 då fantastiska Fancy Footwork släpptes. Nu är det snart dags igen och vi är oerhört taggad inför vad Night by Night kan bjuda på. Av titelspåret att döma kan det inte bli annat bra.

Denna måndag tänkte vi höja peppen inför både skivsläpp och spelning med tre spår, alla remixer på den oerhört funkälskande duon. Det blir discosväng i Siriusmos remix av Night by Night, en grym remix på Bonafied Lovin’ av finska mästaren Jori Hulkkonen och slutligen Etienne de Crecys electroremix på Tenderoni. Allt för ert höga nöjes skull.

Pentru Postul Crăciunului se lasă Sec în seara zilei de 14 noiembrie, iar dacă această dată cade miercurea sau vine­rea, se lasă Sec cu o zi mai inainte. Postul durează până în seara zilei de 24 decembrie inclusiv.

Postul Naşterii Domnului (al Crăciunului) a fost rânduit de Bi­serică pentru a-i pregăti pe credincioşi spre cuviincioasa întâmpinare şi serbare a marelui praznic al naşterii cu trup a Mântuitorului. Sinodul local din Constantinopol ţinut la anul 1166 (sub patriarhul Luca Chrysoverghi) a uniformizat durata postului Naşterii Domnului în Bisericile Ortodoxe, hotărând ca toţi credincioşii să postească timp de 40 de zile, începând de la 15 noiembrie.
Acest post ne aduce aminte şi de postul lui Moise de pe Muntele Sinai, când acesta aştepta să primească cuvintele lui Dum­nezeu scrise pe lespezile de piatră ale Tablelor Legii.

Com lamentável atraso, aí vão meus comentários (incrivelmente curtos) sobre os shows do festival Planeta Terra, que rolou sábado passado no Playcenter, em São Paulo. Os shows não me tiraram do chão, mas admito que fechei os olhos no looping da montanha-russa.

Surpresa: Etienne de Crecy fez meu show favorito do Planeta Terra

Móveis Colonais de Acaju | 7 | Como sempre, incansáveis (e o André está cantando cada vez melhor). A abertura do show foi, como diria Herbert Vianna, acima das palavras. Um pouco menos criativos no palco, no entanto.    

Maxïmo Park | 4 | Não tão vergonhoso quanto The Rakes, mas quase lá. No palco, o pior acontece: tudo o que a banda fez de decente está concentrado no disco de estreia. Infelizmente, eles parecem curtir muito os outros dois discos. Serviria como show de abertura do Franz Ferdinand (ok, talvez nem isso).

EX! | 4.5 | Vi um pedacinho de nada, mas me pareceu uma paródia de todas as bandas moderninhas de Nova York (com uma vocalista que me deixou com saudades do La Roux). Era?

Primal Scream | 5 | As lembranças do show ruidoso, violentíssimo que eles fizeram no Tim Festival há alguns anos pesaram contra este (morno) retorno. E, para piorar, soou desconjuntado: começou como uma colagem das referências punk da banda, terminou com hits fáceis e sensação de psicodelia requentada. Pouco.

Sonic Youth | 7 | O primeiro show do Sonic Youth a gente nunca esquece (e o Metronomy que espere). Tudo bem: não há como descrever a força estranha que move Kim Gordon no palco (num determinado momento, acho até que ela virou Monga, a indie selvagem). Também tenho que admitir que é intelectualmente muito excitante assistir a uma banda que vive no presente e não dá bola para os próprios hits. Mas é um show que deve ter deslumbrado especialmente os fãs do disco mais recente deles. Sei que seria pedir muito, mas eu preferiria ter curtido o repertório de Murray Street ou de Washing machine.

The Ting Tings e Iggy and the Stooges | Vi um pouco dos dois shows (a organização do festival, sádica, marcou as duas atrações para o mesmo horário), nem dá para avaliar direito. Ting Tings rendeu mais do que eu esperava: eles conseguem segurar o público por quase 60 minutos com apenas três hits e clima de programa de auditório (eu daria um 7, vai). Do Iggy vi só três músicas e me arrependi de não ter ficado mais tempo no palco principal.

N.A.S.A. | 4 | Picaretagem muito da vagabunda.  

Etienne de Crecy | 8 | Surpresa: quem procurava espetáculo visual encontrou um parque de diversão inteiro no show hipnótico do DJ francês. Dançando no cubo mágico. Fantástico.

2010 feelings. Porque da próxima vez que eu ver o Étienne de Crécy, das duas uma: ou vai ser na França ou em Londres.

No, no es un titular de la revista Cuore, pero sí es la demostración que la unión de tres genios personas con talento, no siempre tiene que dar excelentes resultados. Por partes. Alex Gopher puede considerarse ya, una leyenda del house francés, era uno de los dj’s de referencia en los noventa, y aunque su edición de discos es bastante limitada, sí que tiene en su haber, multitud de maxis o remezclas y para gente de todo tipo. Para celebrar sus quince años de actividad mezcladora, ha decidido sacar un disco doble recopilatorio con sus mejores mezclas hechas a partir del 2004 y algún tema inédito, bajo el nombre de “My New Remixes”. Lo interesante del cd, a parte de las mezclas hechas para Ladyhawke, autoKratz, WhoMadeWho, Fischerspooner o Kraftwerk, es que uno de los temas inéditos que contenía, es una colaboración con Air y Etienne de Crecy. El resultado se puede escuchar en el video, y tampoco es para tirar cohetes, personalmente, me empieza a gustar a partir del minuto 3 cuando el asunto se empieza a animar…… El disco sale el 2 de noviembre y por cierto, Etienne de Crecy estará en el The Loft de Razzmatazz el próximo viernes 23 de octubre.

Cette nuit à Paris avait lieu la première Nuit Electro au Grand Palais… Au programme: Birdy Nam Nam, Etienne de Crecy, Surkin , Felix Da Housecat, Mondkopf… se sont succédés aux platines de 18h à 6h du matin !

L’événement s’est d’ailleurs également déroulé au Showcase, où des concerts Electro-Rock étaient proposés de 19h à 22h30 (Naïve New Beaters, Pony Pony Run Run et We Have Band)

Four days into my US holiday I was leaving the quiet surroundings of Newport and heading to New York with three of the lads. The main purpose of the trip was to attend All Points West, a music festival held in Liberty State Park in New Jersey. Another cause for excitement was the fact that this was going to be my first visit to NY. It’s kinda weird going to a festival on your J1, it’s like and experience within an experience. Usually I’ve had to settle for festivals when a trip abroad was not feasible for whatever reason.

The festival was a three day event without camping facilities which suited us, as it enabled us to stay with friends in Queens and so soak up more of New York. We eventually left Queens on Friday with a ridiculous amount of alcohol in our system for roughly 2.30pm(we’d been informed there was a 7 drink limit in the festival and so planned accordingly). I’m not usually one for being drunk at gigs but when on your J1….

 Anyway as it turned out the rain was so torrential that it sobered us all up just as Vampire Weekend took to the main stage. It seems fitting that the only wet and miserable day was by far the best of the weekend. After VW played an enjoyable set (I’m not a huge fan) we made sure we had a prime location for the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, one of the bands I was most excited about. The New York based trio proved to be the highlight of the weekend. A typically frantic performance by lead singer Karen O coupled with excellent sound and crowd-pleasing set-list blew everyone away…it even stopped raining!

We hung a little further back for Jay-Z, who to his credit put on a very entertaining show. It was sickening for me that the Beastie Boyshad to pull out, the had been the main pull factor for me. Jay-Z opened with a tribute to the trio in the form of “No Sleep ‘Till Brooklyn” which ran perfectly into his big hit, “Brooklyn, We Go Hard”. During his show I observed that’ it’s near impossible for a white man to dance to rap without looking like he’s trying to be black, and that’s fine when you’re clubbing in Havana’s, but when your in Jersey City it’s a little disconcerting.

The second best act of the festival also came on the Friday in the form of electro/house duo MSTRKRFT. I’d never listened to them before and had barely heard of them but their performance ranks as my favourite dance gig to date.

The sun came out for Saturday. With less necessities on our “to-see list” we made sure we were in on time to catch Arctic Monkeys. Playing songs off their new Humbug album the indie outfit showed a marked progression in both sound and stage presence from their early days. They also treated the crowd to old favourites like Flourescent Adolescent and View from the Afternoon. Our next priority was Canadian dance act Crystal Castles. The duo fronted by eccentric and downright sexy singer Alice Glass had the crowd fixated with their loud and aggressive sound as well as Alice’s erratic shouting. unfortunately we had to miss the end of CC to catch Tool. The Californian rockers were their usual loud selves and played with precision even if their performance was lacking in imagination.

unforseen delays on Sunday resulted in us missing The Gaslight Anthem and We Are Scientists, the former a band I’d love to see live as I’m just getting into them, the latter I’ve already seen but would have enjoyed another show. Thankfully we were in time for Mogwai,one of my favourite bands. Some onstage disagreement and a more limited set rendered their performance less enjoyable than their show in Dublin earlier this year, but I still savoured the 16 minute classic Mogwai Fear Satan. As with the two previous nights the festivities were played out by a dance act, a great idea for any festival in my opinion. Legendary French DJ Etienne de Crecy drew the festival to a close with an old-school electro set and a dazzling light show.

Each night ended with a ferry back to New York and the most fantastic view of the Manhattan skyline at night, an experience almost as enjoyable as all the music slapped together.

Segundo postagens da banda no Twitter, eles vem no dia 7 de novembro, ou seja, para o festival Planeta Terra, que rola no Playcenter, em São Paulo.

Ontem o festival Planeta Terra (07/11, Playcenter) anunciou mais atrações para o festival desse ano. Juntam se a Ting Tings, N.A.S.A. e cia, os britânicos do Maximo Park e do Metronomy, o DJ francês Etienne de Crecy, a banda brasileira EX! (?). A venda dos ingressos começam hoje e os valores vão de R$ 70 a R$ 140 (primeiro lote).

Por enquanto o Planeta Terra está se confirmando como o “indie fest” do ano e com esse line não conseguirá levar muita gente para o Playcenter. Se a coisa não melhorar (Glasvegas, Vampire Weekend, Passion Pit, etc) o grande festival do ano será o “dark festival” Maquinária que terá Deftones, Faith No More e Jane´s Addiction (dia 7) e Evanecence (dia 8 ) como atrações principais e já confirmadas.

Ayer vimos pinchar a An Der Beat durante dos horas y media en la plaza que hay en frente del museo Dalí, y terminó la sesión con Knuf!, ese tema que le dio a conocer por toda Europa, pero que nunca se pudo editar fuera de España por problemas con los derechos de los samplers que utilizaba; solo en Bélgica donde se vendieron unas 5000 copias. El tema era un sampler del original de Kc & The Sunshine Band llamado “I’m Your Boogie Man”, y lo lanzó justo hace diez años, cuando el mundo de la electrónica aún estaba en estado de shock con el “Homework” de Daft Punk. Desde entonces ese chico de Palafrugell ha pinchado en los mejores clubs, ha estado en los grandes festivales de Europa y llegó a telonear a Etienne de Crecy en el tour europeo de “Superdiscount”. Actualmente está de residente en el Barceló Raval pero con una sesiones más relajadas de lo que viene a ser su estilo….
