Ich hab mal wieder im Koffer mit all den schönen, alten Stoffen von meiner Oma gestöbert und dieses tolle Stück entdeckt

Da ich, wie gesagt, gerade die kleinen Taschen im Visir habe wurde daraus ein einmaliges Federmäppchen.

La célèbre marque Louis Vuitton ne sait plus quoi faire pour nous chouchouter. Après les City Guides dont je vous parlais il y a quelques temps, voici un coffret et un étui pour ranger vos montres arborant le reconnaisable monogramme LV de la marque.

L’étui peut contenir 3 montres Homme ou 4 montres Femme. Il se présente sous la forme d’un rouleau et se ferme avec une boucle en laiton doré rappelant la boucle de vos montres. Clin d’oeil plutôt sympa et ingénieux. Cet étui est le partenaire idéal de vos voyages pour transporter vos montres préférées l’esprit léger. Lorsque vous sortirez votre étui devant vos amis, ils resteront ébahis devant vos montres mais aussi devant l’étui

Le coffret, ressemblant étrangement à une malle miniature, est composé de 8 coussinets amovibles permettant ainsi de conserver à l’abri jusqu’à 8 montres. Le coffret est muni d’une serrure en laiton doré avec sa clé pour que vous soyez l’unique gardien de vos précieuses montres. Son petit format permet également de l’emporter avec vous lors de vos déplacements. Bon je vous l’accorde, il faut déjà posséder 8 montres et puis des belles pour vouloir les protéger, la Flik Flak peut très bien voyager dans notre bonne vieille trousse de toilette!

Petit détails qui a son importance, le prix! Comptez 400€ pour l’étui et 2620€ pour le coffret. Précisons que ça reste de la toile monogrammée et non du 100% cuir donc un peu exorbitant à mon goût. Cela reste une très bonne idée de cadeau pour les amateurs de montres haut de gamme.

PS : Les people du monde entier s’arrachent déjà ces nouveaux accessoires!

Mein iPhone 3G (16GB, weiß – passend zur Marc-Jacobs-Brille … ) ist nun schon seit März mein Eigen. Natürlich habe ich mir damals auch schon eine Schutzhülle dafür ausgesucht und gekauft. Wichtig war mir:

1. Das iPhone sollte wirklich geschützt sein.
2. Das iPhone sollte leicht aus der “Hülle” herausgenommen werden können und dennoch fest sitzen.
3. Das iPhone sollte auch mit “Hülle” Platz in meiner vorderen Hosentasche haben.

Nach einem mehr als halbjährigen Test erfüllt das knomo Lederetui all diese Anforderungen immer noch, und das mit Bravour. Das Leder fühlt sich nach wie vor sehr edel an und schmeichelt der Hand. Und auch dem iPhone, denn im Inneren ist es mit qualitativ hochwertigem “Samt” gefüttert. Das iPhone sitzt fest im Etui, lässt sich aber auch schnell herausziehen. Die wirklich hochwertige Verarbeitung erkennt man im Übrigen an den doppelt vernähten Kanten des Etuis. Abgerundet wird der sehr gute Gesamteindruck von vier Löchern unten am Etui für die Lautsprecher sowie “Plus- und Minus-Abdrücke” im Leder zur Kennzeichnung des Lautstärkereglers am iPhone.

Ich habe im März 49,95 Euro im Münchner Apple Store gezahlt. Mittlerweile kostet die knomo Lederhülle im Online Apple Store nur noch 34,95 Euro, ist also ein echtes Schnäppchen.

I have decided that these sewing boxes are my favourite thing to make so that’s why I’ve used them in my new header. 

I have fun choosing the fabrics and seeing it all come together.  They take ages as I hand cut all the card from scratch and then there is a great, messy time when I have a bit of a glue fest.  Then there is quite a bit of tiny stitching to be done before I can play about with the camera.  They probably take between 4 and 5 hours to make (not counting drying time) so it’s definitely a bit of a labour of love.

The next time I make a box I’m going to lay out all the stuff that goes into it and photograph it before and after – probably frighten myself.

Wow, it’s almost 7pm and I haven’t blogged yet. I am covered with work to do and almost forgot to blog about our new products that will be in the shop from Wednesday on. Wednesday is the big redecoration day and there will be more and more Automn/Winter products in the shop.

Now you have the possibility to glance at the new products in advance.These tiny leather products come form a Berlin based leather manufacturer called Papoutsi. All the prodcuts are handmade in Berlin with leather bought in Germany or Europe. There are diferrent kinds of thiny cases for pens and some funny animal-purses for kids and some other products.

As S mentioned, I went to the Edinburgh festival last weekend. This week has been so busy that it feels like a lifetime ago. I would recommend the festival to everyone who enjoys a bit of culture – there are apparently over 10,000 performers, so you get to choose from comedy, music, theatre and dance.

With so many shows, you do run the risk of picking something rubbish and feeling as if you’ve wasted a tenner on the ticket. But by the third week of the festival, the worst shows have been wheedled out and we saw five good ones from a comedy sketch show to a performance about time and chaos. Too pretentious for you yet?!

And here’s a few pictures to show you what it was like:

Day 1 Outfit - we got a travel at 7 am so this was a multipurpose outfit. Skinny chinos from Gap, Topshop brogues, Cos top, Gap jacket, Mum's 'vintage' bag.

I've always been jealous of people who inherit loads of amazing items from their parents - most of my Mum's cool stuff from the 70s is in storage in Pakistan. Except for this vintage bag. Which I love.

Day 2 Outfit - polka diamond tights, H&M shorts, Chemise Blanc top, ghetto chain, Gap jacket again and the new vintage bag from Etui.

Most performers just handed out flyers. These ladies found a novel way of getting our attention.

I love Edinburgh's architectural beauty and a lot of that comes grey tones of the city's stone. Except when it is lit up by blue lights at night, like here.

favorite sewing pretties

I love to sew and have been doing so every day of my life from the age of seven. My mother sewed all of our clothes, and I used to watch her at the kitchen table as she created these every day items on an old black singer sewing machine. I would remove the pins from each piece after she had sewn it, clip off the excess threads, and organize the pieces for the next stage of sewing. I started to make my own clothing when I was in the seventh grade.

Many of the sewing accessories from this group picture were handed down to me, and some I have acquired over the years at thrift or antique stores.

From left to right:

• The felt dress is an etui that was purchased at a church auction by my father’s mother (my grandmother). She used it for many years, and when she passed away it was given to my mother.
• The colorful metal piece is a thimble holder, this I found offered as a group of items on ebay, (along with a few of the other items shown here).
• The wooden doll is a needle holder, her body lifts up and she dutifully holds your needles. A friend had given this to me when I was first married.
• The wooden barrel behind her holds thimbles and was the part of the group I found on ebay.
• The box of pins was found in a standing wooden sewing case that had belonged to my mother’s father, and was from my grandfather’s mother.
• The sterling silver thimble on top had belonged to my mother’s mother. I am sure that my grandmother would not have approved that I drilled a hole in it and had worn it on a necklace! I have matured a little and hold it with respect, it now resides in an old tin along with the other treasures here.
• The round tape measure was one of my earliest sewing accessories. I of course played with the button and pulled the tape out just to see it snap back. Luckily I didn’t ruin it and it is still functional.
• The blue metal case is another thimble holder and the green case holds two wooden spools of thread. Both of these were from the group of items that I found on ebay.
• The metal scissors are “oh so pretty” but they don’t cut worth a darn, I think the saying is that “they couldn’t cut hot butter”. The stork pair of scissors was a gift from my mom and dad, and the floral pair I found at a thrift store.

I just love to look at these items and imagine what project at hand each seamstress was working on; was it for something functional and necessary or was it created for the pure pleasure of sewing? I know that all of these items were treasured by the women whose legacy I have inherited. I salute every one of them and I am proud to keep that tradition alive, every day, one stitch at a time.

There is an entire genre of words that seems to exist for the sole purpose of getting the writers of crossword puzzles out of jams.  Second rate atheletes and actors are enshrined in memory, not for their work, but because their short three or four letter name makes them a perfect fit.  UMA Thurman will be remembered long after Pulp Fiction.  MILO O’SHEA (who apparently is not second rate but I couldn’t recognize him) is known to me only as Actor Milo, or Actor O’Shea.  Giants great, Mel OTT, will be known by as many crossword fans as baseball fans.

Just as people live on, so do words.  Why do I know what an etui is? Have I ever seen one before? yes, but not knowingly.  Only when I was stymied by Will Shortz three times in the New York Times Crossword Puzzle, did I finally learn what this is.

An etui is a fancy name for a fancy case designed to hold needles and other sewing supplies. They come in many different shapes and forms, but commonly seem to open like a flower as this one can demonstrate.

Interestingly enough, such a cute little thing comes from the French word estui, or prison.  While the origin comes from a case that shuts up or imprisons sewing material, I like to imagine a similar etui full of torture implements maybe used on prisoners in this chair.  Also interesting, according to the Oxforad American Dictionary, the plural of etui used to be etweese, which was shortened to tweeze, whence we gain the term tweezers.

Is there anyone out there who knew this word outside of crossword puzzles? What are your other favorite Crosswordese words?

P.S. For those of you who are crossword puzzle fans, I recommend Rex Parker’s daily review of the Times’s crossword puzzle.  It is one of the best ways to actually improve your puzzling.

Attention, objet unique qui s’adresse aussi bien aux fans de MJ qu’aux gamers et collectionneurs en tout genre. En effet, cette PS1 d’origine est la 1 000 001ème construite par Sony, et elle a été remportée par un gamer lors du Salon IFA de 1997 à Berlin. L’heureux gagnant a ainsi pu faire quelques parties avec le Roi de la Pop (je me demande à quoi ils ont joué… Crash Bandicoot?) avant de se faire dédicacer la console avec un “I Love You – Michael”.

Mort de l’artiste et récession obligent, la machine se retrouve mise en vente sur eBay, avec une enchère atteignant pour l’instant 5100 dollars. Mais quand on aime, on ne compte pas non?

Et si vous trouvez que cette console est trop chère mais que vous souhaitez quand même afficher votre amour des jeux vidéo, vous pourrez toujours vous consoler en achetant ce porte carte en forme de manette NES, réalisé par les japonais de Banpresto (à qui l’on doit déjà d’excellentes figurines Dragon Ball entre autre) et disponible en octobre moyennant 20 euros. Petit détail qui tue: l’étui permet de stocker séparément vos cartes de visite et celles que l’on vous donne. Au cas vous vous demandiez comment ranger à part vos cartes de Cat’s Eyes.

Comme je l’ai déjà dit dans des posts précédents, mon dernier sujet de préoccupation est de trouver un étui pour mon futur iPhone 3G S (quel monde futile, pardon comme je suis futile ). Je n’ai pas encore décidé sur quel modèle j’allais jeter mon dévolu, dernière idée en date celui-ci simple en cuir noir. Ce qui me gène j’ai peur de ne plus l’entendre ou le sentir vibrer une fois le téléphone “englouti” dans ce type d’étui!

Au détour du Net, j’ai trouvé cet étui cuir façon boîte à cigares de mon grand père. J’ai trouvé sympa, si vous êtes intéressé : étui iPhone Nevada sur Etui iPhone.

Bientôt un nouvel iPhone donc bientôt un nouvel étui pour le protéger. Encore faut-il le trouver! Comme je suis aussi “fan” de Crumpler, j’ai déniché celui-ci sur le site : Le Royale (il sont dans leur période royauté chez Crumpler), tout simple alors Why not?!
