Een paar keer per jaar koop je een product in de supermarkt waar ze in een zichzelf respecterend restaurant een puntje aan kunnen zuigen. De secretaris beleefde tijdens zijn vakantie een smaaksensatie die hij bijkans nog op zijn gehemelte voelt prikkelen. Het gaat hier om verse ravioli, gevuld met ricotta en snijbiet. Tijdens de eerste hap keek de secretaris zijn geliefde met een vergulde blik aan en vice versa. Wat een uitgebalanceerde en fijngevoelige combinatie!

Omdat het een koelkastproduct is, was het onmogelijk deze mee te snaaien naar Nederland. Misschien maar goed ook, want thuis vallen vakantiespullen altijd weer tegen: de fruitige wijn is op je eigen bank meestal maar een waterige zooi. Mocht u in Italie of desnoods Slovenie zijn en u tuft langs een Eurospin (wij vonden er een in Bruneco), let u dan op onderstaande verpakking. U houdt niet van kaas? Niet getreurd: er zijn ook andere combi’s, tevens met tortellini. En in het land van de pasta’s zijn ze belachelijk laag geprijsd. Buon appetito!

Gnagno and me are White Wine lovers, and one of the wines we appreciate the most is the famous Gewurztraminer. Unfortunately, this is an expensive passion: Gewurztraminer is not a cheap wine, and the most economical version that we ever found costed 7€…  that is, before yesterday.

The day before today (a way to avoid repeating terms), we went shopping for food, wine and other things – but it wasn’t a normal shopping, we didn’t just go inside a supermarket and bought what we needed. Instead, we went to 3 supermarkets and 1 wine shop.

“Why would you go to 3 supermarkets and 1 wine shop instead of just going to one?” – people ask.  The answer to this question is that we wanted to try all the shops in the area, to see what they offered and which was the least expensive. Unfortunately, the cheap ones looked quite horrible, with no organization whatsoever, but in one of them we found a surprise.

On one of the shelves of Eurospin, between plastic plates and washing powder, we saw what we thought being a mirage: Gewurztraminer – 2.19€.

We didn’t need encouragement to take it, and Gnagno had it in his hand before I could even notice it.

Satisfied and happy, we bought what we hoped would be our “special discovery”, a cheap Gewurztraminer –  ”We can come to Eurospin just to buy this, we can get so many bottles!” – kept saying the enthusiastic Gnagno and Panda.

Tonight we tried it.

Blergh.

11,5%.

Of water.

Yes, it seemed like a diluted wine. A wine squash? I think it did have a hint of Gewurztraminer, but it was so unnoticeable that we could barely get the taste of it.

“Morale della favola” (as we say in Italian): don’t buy cheap Gewurztraminers or wines from Hungary (Hungary Wines), ever.
