Everlast for Her Soft Grip Weights 6-Pound Pair Review

I love these weights and do use them frequently. And now, of course, I can clearly see the “3″ printed on the ends in the photo. But please don’t be fooled like I was that this is a pair of 6 pound weights. They are wonderfully comfortable to hold if you want a very light weight, plus you won’t hurt yourself by dropping them on your toes like you might with classic dumbbells. The other thing I truly appreciate is that they don’t accumulate the odor that is common to many neoprene-covered weights. Their squishy shape also makes them much easier to store than the classic hard variety, and I do find them just as easy to grab quickly when I am following a exercise video. They are actually attractive and just plain fun as well.

is a community leader in the Arizona Hip Hop, Art, and Social scene. Having been involved in promotions in Arizona since 1990, beginning at the Grind Night Club. Dumper began as an after-hours DJ and Mural artist there. For a few years Dumper did freelance graphics and logo work for such artists Vanilla Ice, Sugar Ray, Everlast, The Headquarters, Zulu Nation, Hip Step Massive, XIS, and many more from punk rock to hip hop.

Concentrating on his graphic and live painting Dumper hit the Music circuit hard performing and promoting at numerous events from Raves to Concerts in the mid to late 90’s.

In 2002 Dumper teamed up with Keith Nichols, Emerg McVay, Hyder, Catalyst and friends to start his new venture, The Blunt Club. For the past years the Blunt Club has been Arizona’s Hip Hop church, hosting nearly every local live painter, poet, mc, dj, fashion designer, and beyond, supporting the artistic community in a multidimensional format.  The Blunt Club has since been named one of the top “101 hot spots in the U.S” by Spin magazine, as well as AZ’s “Best Hip Hop Night 2003-2006″ by Phoenix New Times and 944 magazine.

In 2003 Dumper founded with Baron Gordon, the Alpha Monster Art Collective, consisting of over 20 members globally. The collective’s goals are to advance each artist, business wise and ethically, give back to the community.Currently Dumper and the Alpha Monster’s perform all over the USA traveling and doing gallery events, to hip hop shows & Festivals , every final Friday at Club 909, First Friday’s downtown at the UM Gallery , and every Thursday at the Blunt Club In Tempe AZ . In 2003 Dumper joined forces becoming a resident artist with the So Cal collective, theAbstract Workshop. In 2005, Dumperfoo has since become a resident artist traveling out to paint live once a month at Abstract Workshop’s major events.

The casual observer of popular music wouldn’t normally expect there to be much cross-over between the worlds of country and hiphop.   After all, the stereotypes associated with each group’s fan bases [(country);(hiphop)] would lead the casual observer to expect the genres to be mutually exclusive (although I did find this example of possible country/rap hybridization experiments occurring somewhere near Little Rock.)   But that would be oversimplifying the relationship between the genres.

Country music and rap both share a spoken word heritage.  Country has a long history of recitation songs and hiphop has its old-school rap heritage.  And with the spread of both country and hiphop’s fanbases into the suburban middle ground between the two worlds, it’s not surprising to see some crossover.  Indeed, the genre of country-rap has arisen within the past two decades and has had quite a bit of exposure with the success of Michigan’s Kid Rock. (I also recommend Kentucky’s Nappy Roots as an excellent example of county/rap synthesis.)  The forms of music also share a heritage of poverty and outcastedness that has been glossed over as both forms of music became successful in the mainstream.

This weekend was the 43rd annual Country Music Association awards and 20 year old superstar Taylor Swift took home four awards:  Album of the Year; Music Video of the Year; Female Vocalist of the Year; and Entertainer of the Year.  Taylor regularly opened her shows in 2007 with a short snippet of Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”

Here’s another example from the opposite direction musically;  New York’s Everlast doing a hip-hop version of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.”

Finally, in 1998, Pras Michel released “Ghetto Superstar” featuring Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Mya.  While the song isn’t really a cover – as rap and hiphop are about sampling, not covering – the song clearly invokes and samples the chorus and musical hook of Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers’ mega-hit, “Islands in the Stream.”

Now, I gotta admit, I don’t know as much about hiphop and rap as I ought to.  So, if anyone has any other good examples of hiphop sampling country music, feel free to post them in the comments.  I’d love to hear them.

Att jag gillar denna låt. Santana är en man som följt mig sedan 70-talet. Everlast sjunger, och: Hör på gitarren! I brorsans pojkrum fanns en och annan Lp.

In 1998, a rather awkward 25-year-old male walked into a CD store (this was in the day when music was sold on CDs, in stores, to 25 year-olds) and purchased Whitey Ford Sings the Blues by Everlast.  Here’s what the indubitable Wikipedia has to say about said album and artist…

Whitey Ford Sings the Blues was both a commercial and critical success (selling more than 3 million copies).  It was hailed for its blend of rap with acoustic and electric guitars, developed by Everlast together with producers Dante Ross and John Gamble (aka SD50).  The album’s genre-crossing lead single “What It’s Like” proved to be his most popular and successful song, although the follow up single, “Ends”, also reached the rock top 10.

Several years later Apple launched iTunes, which also proved to be a commercial and critical success, and the awkward male promptly loaded Whitey Ford Sings the Blues into the song library.  iTunes seemed to take a particular shine to this album, apparently favouring it with many more frequent plays, when iTunes was set to “shuffle”, than any of other 100 or more albums in the collection.  At least that’s how it appeared to the awkward male, who seemed to notice it come up much more often than expected.

In a strange twist of fate I also just happen to have Whitey Ford Sings the Blues in my iTunes collection.  In another strange coincidence, just like that awkward male from a decade ago, I’ve noticed that iTunes tends to favour it over other albums in the song list when iTunes is set to shuffle.

Life is certainly full of strange coincidences, but does iTunes really favour certain songs/ artists/ albums over others?  Let’s test it scientifically…

I set iTunes to shuffle and counted the number of tracks I had to skip before I hit Whitey Ford Sings the Blues.  The results are below:

32, 65, 181, 67, 77, 152, 50, 46, 230, 64

In other words, Whitey Ford Sings the Blues played randomly 10 times in 964 attempts (i.e. 1.037% of the sample).  I have 119 albums in iTunes, so theoretically I should be hearing it 1/119=0.840% of the time.  So the sample is a little bit higher than expected, but statistically significantly higher?

This question can be answered using the probability mass function of the Binomial Distribution.  The probability of exactly 10 “successes” out of 964 “attempts”, given that the probability of a success is 1/119 is, using the very fine SpeedCrunch calculator:

binompmf(10; 964; 1/119) = 0.102 (i.e. 10.2%)

This is well above the standard p=0.05 (5%) significance level.  I have to conclude that Whitey Ford Sings the Blues doesn’t play any more or less frequently than any other album in my iTunes collection when the playlist is set to shuffle.

Humans are very bad a gauging randomness.  Or rather, probably like most predators, we’re very good at detecting patterns, and tend to see patterns when they’re not really there.  Luckily we have statistics to sort it all out for us.

And Whitey Ford Sings the Blues is still an awesome album.

Today is one of those days that just makes me feel like sitting back and contemplating how I’m going to conquer the world – naturally, I figured I would share the music in my library that makes those feelings come to life. Music is here to evoke emotion, challenge our status quo, provoke us, persuade us, and these epic songs do all the above. I also started making links out of the titles so you don’t even have to go far to check out these.

Apartment 26: 88 – The nineties had a lot of bad music to deal with. This band never really made if far but they had a lot of really good, driving songs. If you grew up during the era of modern rock and you missed this song, I recommend you fix that now. They had a lot of other pretty good songs worth checking out. Do you research on them and don’t skip this one in particular.

Bad Religion: It’s A Long Way To The Promised Land – As soon as the song starts you just have to grin. Not a happy, I’m having a good day grin. We’re talking that half-evil I’m going to conquer the world grin. It’s one of my favorite songs by them and if you haven’t head it change that before you even leave the room.

David Cook: Bar-Ba-Sol – Out of every season of American Idol, this is the only song I have ever loved. It’s such a great off-beat rhythm and believe it or not, crazy I know, an American Idol contestant put out something noteworthy. Check it out

Everlast: Die In Yer Arms - This song still has a little hip-hop to it, but isn’t that what we all want out of Everlast after all? The groove doesn’t let up, the chorus is kicking, the lyrics are violent, and it’s get your blood pumping – and today, that’s what I’m selling

Fatboy Slim: That Old Pair Of Jeans - Hands down the greatest song he’s ever had. That’s saying a lot too because I’m a huge fan, but the lyrics are so inspirational behind such a great melody. You’ll be more than ready for world conquest after this one. I promise – I almost get teary eyed every time I hear this song it’s that good.

The best thing that I love about myself is that often, out of the blue, out of the nowhere, totally unexpected I come across with the right solutions for what to do next. What to say, what to do, where to move, and overall what to find.

Petit retour sur une approche créative qu’il m’a été donné de croiser à plusieurs reprises ces derniers temps, appelons-la le 2 en 1. Une exécution qui semble assez bien se recycler sur divers sujet (Services, ONG, Agency self-promo…). I love the video for this song, but Universal has it on lock on youtube, so do your self a favor and look it up. It is incredible. It’s like you are watching Everlast, DJ Muggs and Johnny Cash perform together.

Here is this song, which I absolutely love. The first time I saw him do this was in Vegas, poolside with Muggs on the turntables. It gave a whole new spin to “two turntables and a microphone”…

Do yourself another favor and go see Everlast tomorrow night at the Key Club. He puts on a damn good show and has the voice of an angel… an angel that’s had some unbelievably good times, has tattoos and could kick your ass.
