Day Two: My two-year-old just discovered the big pile of dead leaves at the back of our yard. She was so thrilled, she just lay down on the leaves and laughed. I love the expression of pure joy on her face. My father-in-law couldn’t resist scooping up a bunch of leaves and burying her.

She responded by screaming, “More! More! More!”

My father-in-law is visiting us from Arizona. We haven’t seen him since last summer, so I am so happy they got to play outside together this morning. It was really memorable. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the Make Every Day a Play Day Challenge, I’m not sure we would have gone outside today. It’s not a cold day, but it’s pretty cloudy and we were perfectly happy inside. But, going outside was much more fun.

I have just started noticing (and this may seem obvious to a lot of people) that my happiest moments of the day are the ones spent outdoors. No matter what my mood is, I always perk up when I’m in our yard or at a playground or park. I’m such a big fan of this challenge. I’m going to try to take my girls outside to play, even just for a few minutes, every single day, no matter what! Keeping a log of our experiences this week is going to pretty profound for me.
