Yes! After a day’s break from Local Production, we bring you a trip to Astons Specialties at East Coast Road!*today’s food location was decided by our local crew member Alvin! so if the outcome is bad… Alvin is going to suffer the consequences!*

Where is Astons you say?

It's right across Katong Mall! You can't miss it!*look for the long queue across the mall la!if still cannot see = eyes got stamp!*

The front of Astons! Usually you'll find a long queue here, but Local Production managed to clear a path for this nice shot!*no la! is we big shot, no need to ask everyone already give way to us!*

As you can see, we didn’t enter straight away upon reaching Astons. This is due to the fact that we had two very special guests today on Local Production. Two long time friends who were joining us for today’s judging!

Our special guests! Ben and Jamie!*mai siao siao hor! these 2 quite picky about their food! see their gong gong face know already! =X*

After they arrived, we managed to get a table for 6 quite fast… actually almost immediately!*tell you liao ma! big shot! where got need to queue and wait one? in fact we gave away tables to people that were coming to wait for our special guests to arrive first!*

Before dinner entertainment from our local crew member!*wah not bad sia, like a 5 star restaurant ah! still got show to watch as we wait for our food! let's hope that Alvin doesn't change his name to Alvin-no-thumbs! XD*

Arrival of the 2 mushroom soups for the kids!*look at how happy they are... can shake head and drink soup at the same time! i should've stolen their garlic breads from them! =P*

Finally, the entrée that we’ve been waiting for! And you get a choice of 2 side dishes as well when you order!*wah finally! i was literally spinning webs around the crew members!*

Black Pepper Steak with Potato Salad and Onion Rings!*woot! looks good! let's see how it tastes!*

Commando's Prime Ribeye Steak with Corn on the Cob and Mushroom Sauce!*let's see if Astons can satisfy our strictest taster from Local Production. don't forget that he gave out 0 RESPECT to another taste test before this!*

Chicken meal faceoff! On the far corner we have Hickory Chicken versus Chargrill Chicken on the right!*the damn chipmunk just wouldn't stop fidgeting! next time we'll throw you into the kitchen and bbq you!*

Ben's Lemon Lime Chicken! Seems like our special guest was so excited about the meal that he started first!*ben ah ben... you are definitely gonna get it from your wife! don't say i didn't warn you!*

I hate to say this...but i told you so!*Jamie - start eating without me right? no love for you tonight! =X*

Finally! After 3 "You still have 1 Black Pepper Fish right?" reminders from the staffs and various "6 more minutes ok?"! Jamie finally gets her meal!*yes..that's her swinging her right arm at anyone that gets too close to the fish! relac la! let us try ma!*

The meal went on smoothly after the fish hoo-hah and we all managed to settle down and finish the meal. Right near the end, our own Commando Phoon decided to show us a new trick on eating Corn on the Cob!

Now you don't!*fwahlao eh! that was really fast bro! yes... it took the same amount of time that you viewed his pictures for him to finish it! amazing? 8th wonder of the world ah!*

And so now it’s time for the verdict! Let’s look at some of the comments from our crew members!

Lamerkld:

I found that the side dishes were only so-so, but i did like the potato salad. The Chargrill Chicken was ok but a little plain after awhile. I wished the servings could be bigger cos i was still hungry after the meal! On the whole, i give it 1 RESPECT for ok food at great prices!

*seems like Lamerkld gave it quite an average rating as usual. and please stop asking people if they still want their food when they HAVEN’T EVEN STARTED EATING!*

Alvin:

Not bad ah! I love the potato salad and Hickory Chicken! The BBQ sauce was divine! The baked potato was huge as well! I give it 2 RESPECTS for an overall good meal! I recommend one confirm nice la!

*ok ok enuff… you sure you not giving it 2 RESPECTS to save your own ass? =X but ok la, Alvin did enjoy his meal as we saw him gulp down everything in record timing! and also, don’t keep staring at my steak after you finish your own meal! you and Lamerkld all 1 kind!*

Commando:

Asides from the potato salad side dish, i find the Prime Ribeye quite normal. I was hoping that the Corn on the Cob would give Astons additional points but it failed to impress me. CHUI ah! Overall i give it a borderline 1 RESPECT for the cheap pricing and environment! I would come for the environment but not so much the food.

*whoa whoa whoa! that coming from our own Commando Phoon! he’s indeed a tough customer to satisfy indeed! but no fear there, 1 RESPECT from him is already an achievement! bro…relac la! ORD liao, don’t rate everything you eat like fighting war also!*

Ben:

The Lemon Lime Chicken was ok, but i got lazy chewing after a while. The food was above average for me… loved the coleslaw and potato salad! I would rate it a little over 1 RESPECT for the great meal at a great price!

*seems like a satisfied customer to me! happy or not astons? eh bro, lazy to chew? then next time gimme your food k? i chew and swallow for you as well! XD*

Jamie:

I really enjoyed the Black Pepper Fish! I would give it 2 RESPECTS alone for that! The garden salad was ok too but i enjoyed the potato salad more! I was a little peeved about waiting so long for my meal but was overall very happy with it! A well deserving 2 RESPECTS from me!

*aiseh! another 2 RESPECTS from another satisfied customer! seems like our special guests love this place! oh! and jamie… forgive ben for starting first la hor? show him some “love” tonight k? =X*

The Verdict

Okay! Time for my own comments and overall wrap up of Astons Specialties today. I’ll keep it to short quotes ya?

• Potato Salad – Die die must try! One of the better side dishes they have!
• Skip the cheaper beef menus if you are looking to be impressed! They all taste normal… but they are priced reasonably!
• The chicken menu has great pricing but don’t expect too much k?
• The fish menu is recommended from Local Production!*but expect to wait a little for it ya?*
• Do not risk ordering side dishes that you are not sure of to try! As many of us found out… most of the side dishes = CHUI!*hey hey! Local Production has a new rating for negative aspects as well!*
• STAY AWAY FROM THE CORN ON THE COB!
• If you’re not sure what to order for drinks, get the MUG ROOTBEER!*everyone agreed that it was the only item that was surprising good! wtf?!*
• Try to enjoy the ambience of the place amidst the hustle and bustle of the crowd!*wear sunglasses also can, the lighting quite bright! and remember to bring along many friends! sorry to all the couples looking for a quiet meal there! XD*
• And finally for the ladies… there’s only 1 shared unisex restroom available! So here’s a song for you to enjoy while you wait in the queue to it! N.E.R.D – Everyone Nose

Overall… i find Astons Specialties at East Coast Road to be above average but i wouldn’t wait in a long queue just for it. So if you see that there’s no queue, go for it!

After tallying everyone’s reviews and comments, Local Production gives it a FULL RESPECT + a baby respect for certain ups and downs during the course of the meal. Let’s hope that Astons can provide us with more consistencies with their food tastes in the future and maybe the baby will grow up to become another full RESPECT ya?*so cute lor! still got baby respect sibo? bet you guys didn’t expect that from me right?*

And also kudos to the staffs at Astons for providing fast and quick service to us amidst the crowd! We really appreciate it!*aiyoh Jamie forget it la! it’s just 3 “You still have 1 Black Pepper Fish right?” reminders and various “6 more minutes ok?” =X*

What’s goin on guys? I’ve been watching the DNC and preseason football a lot over the past few days, so I’m hating my life right now, because I don’t care about politics or football.

I was cruising hypebeast the other day and saw that T.I., Jay-Z, Yeezy, and Weezy all came out with a song, called “Swagger Like Us” with MIA samples for the chorus. The song gets a solid 6.5 in my book.
