I took my girls to the theatre last evening to see Evita.  It was an awesome show, we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Eva Duarte was a strong, beautiful Argentinean lady who worked/social climbed her way up to the top becoming the president’s wife in the 1945.  Mmm… you have to admire her gutsiness to get to where she wanted to be – even if it was a little on the risqué side!   I remember going to see Evita with my parents in the early 1980’s in London’s West End, it was such a treat – something I’ll never forget.  Since then Alan Parker’s film starring Madonna has come out – it too is based on Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice’s famous stage production – if you could have climbed inside my head last night you’d have thought it was karaoke – how I love those songs.  How far would you go to get what you want?  How many options are there?  What else?

Today has been so busy – amongst other things, I checked out 4 potential venues for my January workshops.  Three were great and gave me fantastic customer service – one was not.  Remaining nameless – although I will say it’s a well known hotel brand.  I was most disappointed with the welcome, the lack of smile, the bluntness and unwillingness to print the information she finally dispensed.  I wonder how many people choose to take their business elsewhere?  I certainly shall not return.  Would I want my clients to feel that kind of welcome?  Think not.  It reminds me how we only have that one chance to make a good first impression…  and how good customer service keeps us going back time and time again.  It’s said people prefer to do business with those they know, like and trust.   I think the independent hotels get my business – they certainly have passion about what they offer to their potential customers.  How do you think are you perceived? How would you like to be known by those who know you?  As Evita said in the musical – she added ‘just a touch of star quality!’  Go out there and shine my lovelies!

I saw Precious today and want to talk about it length, but need to process what I saw. I’d also like to get to Push, Sapphire’s book on which the movie was based at some point before the end of the year. For now, I’ll say this. I didn’t love it but I did like it, thought Gabourey Sidibe and Mo’Nique were great, was heartened that my matinee screening had a good and diverse turnout, and think you should see it. But you may want to see it with someone and encourage your local theater to have a safe space where people can go if the movie becomes too intense or touches on frought emotions or horrible memories.

For the time being, I thought I’d mention the preview of a coming attraction. Nine, Rob Marshall’s screen adaptation of Arthur Kopit, Mario Fratti, and Maury Yeston’s musical (itself an adaptation of Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2), comes out next week. You can view the trailer here.

So, I know very little about this musical. I only recently discovered the origins of its source material, which I haven’t seen (though, based on my less-than-enthusiastic viewings of La Dolce Vita and I Vitelloni don’t hold high hopes for it, unless Fellini allowed for self-deprication in his autobiographical film the way that Bob Fosse did in All That Jazz, a movie of a similar mold that I love). Beyond that, I knew Raul Julia starred in its Broadway debut back in 1982, the original production won many Tonys, and once heard someone sing “Unusual Way” at a family friend’s wedding, which is a really cryptic song choice for such a ceremony.

As for the film adaptation, I know the players. Rob Marshall directed Chicago and is at the helm here. Daniel Day Lewis plays Guido Contini, a tortured director. The women who populate his life are considerable — Marion Cotillard plays his wife, Penélope Cruz his mistress, Nicole Kidman his muse, Stacey Ferguson (aka Duchess Fergie Ferg) a whore he once knew, and Kate Hudson a fashion writer whose character has a song that was written for the movie. Oh, and Judi Dench is Contini’s costume designer and confidant.

So, I totally suspect a two-hour version of Julio Iglesias’s “To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before” with generous dashes of love for the authorial presence of male film directors. Also, I think this trailer gives you virtually no insight into what this story is about.

That said, I totally want to see this movie because:

1) I’m always interested in film musicals, whether they are good, bad, screen adaptations of stage musicals, or screen adaptations of stage musicals of feature films. Yes, this means I saw Hairspray and didn’t hate it as much as many of my movie geek friends did. But those matters should be saved for another post. 

2) Unlike many people who hated Chicago (several of whom I suspect feel Marty or Roman got robbed out of a Best Picture Oscar for Gangs of New York or The Pianist), I actually enjoyed it. I felt the adaptation stayed true to the source material, deftly staged sequences that are actually going on in the protagonist’s mind, and felt like Catherine Zeta Jones, Queen Latifah, and John C. Reilly were great. I even enjoyed Renée Zellweger and Richard Gere, actors whom I otherwise would rather not watch in a movie. My only real complaint (which Jon Stewart shares), was that Bebe Neuwirth, who won a Tony for her portrayal of Velma Kelly was replaced by Zeta Jones. Otherwise, bring it.

3) Daniel Day Lewis can sing? The same guy who apparently prepared for There Will Be Blood by recording his character’s voice using early 20th century phonographic technology? I am there.

d) I’m fascinated by the presence of female pop stars in contemporary film musicals. As the golden age of film musicals has long since passed, it seems like the ones that do make it to the screen need a familiar face and voice, and they are almost always women with celebrated recording careers. Just as I wondered what Madonna brought to Evita, Queen Latifah brought to Chicago, and Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson brought to Dreamgirls, so too am I curious what Fergie is going to bring to Nine. While detractors might snigger that it’s fitting for the woman who sang “My Humps” and “London Bridge” to play a whore, I’ll counter that she’s the only singer we hear in the trailer. Yes, that’s her singing “Be Italian.”

e) In the movie, I’m interested in seeing a whore play a teacher to our genius director protagonist man. In real life, I advocate the decriminalization of prostitution and would like sex workers to get worker rights and benefits.

f) While I worry that these women are going to be portrayed as long-suffering, one-dimensional objects of Condini’s affection, I want to see a movie that boasts so many actresses. I haven’t seen this many women in an ensemble since I saw Cruz in Pedro Almodóvar’s Volver (note: Cruz is also starring in Almodóvar’s Broken Embraces and I can’t wait for it to start playing in Austin). 

As an aside, the gossip enthusiast in me is also curious about Cruz and Kidman starring in a movie together. Ever since Tom Cruise split with Nicole Kidman and dated Cruz, I always wonder what their interactions are like every time they show up on a magazine cover together. It’s a catty curiosity, but a curiosity nonetheless. I wonder how they would be portrayed in a movie about Tom Cruise’s life, but want very much for this movie not to be made.

Whether this movie is good or not remains to be seen. That said, I’ll see you at the multiplex.

When I saw the title of Eugene Robinson’s Washington Post article about Sarah Palin, “Our Evita,” I winced.  I love Eva Peron. Obviously one of the more controversial figures in history, but fascinating.  And that hair!

Sure, Evita did some crazy shit, but compare her to Sarah Palin?!?  Okay, maaaayyyyybbbbeeeee if you mean a diva but, otherwise, I don’t see it.

But Robinson’s article is nonetheless worth a read.  He writes, in part:

“So what if she displayed no real grasp of the issues in interviews during last year’s campaign? Those reporters were being beastly, trying to show her up. So what if the inside-the-Beltway crowd thinks she’s an airhead? The state of mind called “Washington” is the problem, and she’s the solution. So what if she quit as governor of Alaska with a year and a half left in her term? “Only dead fish go with the flow,” she explained, demonstrating once more her sassy roguishness.

Palin’s knack for being cleverly transgressive is almost like performance art. Her doppelganger, Tina Fey, did a hysterically prescient bit, right before Election Day, in which Palin vowed that she was never going away. Fey’s “Palin” predicted that she’d become either president or “a white Oprah.” So on whose show does Palin launch her book? Oprah’s, of course — adding to the long list of Palin lore that you simply couldn’t make up.”

week of buzz-provoklng previews the world premiere of Michel Marc Bouchard’s theatrical parable, directed by Eda Holmes, opens tonight with a stellar cast including Bartholemew Fair scene-stealer Juan Chioran, who’s already set to headline the Stratford revivals of Kiss Me Kate and Evita next season. In Bouchard’s play, set in rural Quebec at the end of World War I, a village priest commissions a fresco dedicated to the Virgin Mary to protect his parishioners from a flu epidemic, and assistant director Cory O’Brien hints that the synergy between the premise of the play and our current H1N1 headlines was downright eerie. “Coughing rattles throughout the rehearsal hall,” he blogged two weeks ago. “Either our actors are overly ‘method’ or we’ve encountered a very strange coincidence. In a play filled with the ominous threat of the Spanish flu our cast has fallen sick. Stay home? Or come to rehearsal? Ginseng. Hand sanitizer. Cold formula tea. To get the flu shot or not to get the flu shot. That is the question.”

Should be fascinating to see who makes it to the stage tonight.

Next week the gorgeous star of Water and Bollywood/Hollywood starts a two-week procedure that involves releasing her own stem cells back into her blood to “reboot” her system before any further treatment … Jennifer Hudson will go to South Africa next spring to star in a screen biography of Winnie Mandela, the controversial ex-wife of Nelson … and L.A. audiences got an unexpected bonus last week when Dick Van Dyke joined the national touring cast of Mary Poppins for their curtain call at the Ahmanson Theatre.

This show was stunning! Everything was so so slick, beautifully done. Rachael Wooding proved to be a first class Eva, her characterisation from young to her deathbed was utterly convincing, and lets face it she has a voice to die for, ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentia’ was awesome. Seamus has such a powerful voice, something you would not have expected given his ‘Any Dream Will Do’ days.

I really do love the show, there is something about the way Andrew Lloyd Webber writes a musical that I find really appealing, I think it’s the way that he re-uses a lot of his music in different sections of the plot, it keeps you captivated because you’ve heard that section before.

The Set was simplistic but it really worked, my one gripe was the stage hands pushing some of it on and off … personally I found it a bit irritating but alas, my companion didn’t even notice!

Definitely the best put together tour that I have seen this year, with some stunning performances and a solid plot … what is there not to love?

Three of us like-minded ladies met for coffee at our local garden centre and were in full flow with happy banter when the theme tune from Evita suddenly entered my psche, completely irrelevant - it seemed - to what we had been discussing. ”Don’t cry for me Argentina….” begged Evita… bringing tears of empathy to my eyeballs.   Thank heaven for toilet cubicles, as I said to the girls ‘I’ve got Eva Peron on the line – I’ll just pop out and help her…’ and pulled my chair back and toddled off to duties of another kind. 

I sat on the toilet seat lid whorling my dowser and tuning in to the tragic and waterlogged soul of Eva, whilst trying to block out the sound of a little one being taken to the toilet by his doting granny in the adjoining cubicle.  Such are the distractions of my work, but nevertheless the impression I gained from this desperate lady was that she was  buried alive beneath a tall dark tower, which loomed above her and contained very negative , masculine and suffocating energy, trapping her so that she was unable to speak her own voice.  There was so much emotion as she was pulled from her pit of darkness, shook her wet hair and rode the waves of love energy home again!

I returned to the girls, grinning with satisfaction that yet another soul had somehow woven her way into our powerful trio of   happiness and asked them if they knew anything about Eva Peron.  The only knowledge we could scrape up between us is that she was obviously from Argentina and that  Madonna has played her part in Evita…

Before checking Eva via the usual web I sat down at the next opportunity and invited her comments (As above, so below!)-

“Facism, extremism, sovereignty – all these accusations were thrown at me (by males) after my death!” she cried.  “I was buried in a deep chamber with no hope of ever seeing the light again.  Thank you dear sister and those who drew me to your likeness.   I am dripping wet with the struggle of humanity’s disdainful addresses towards feminine power and ideology.  I have come home!  I have set my place at God’s table, eaten the bread of my transgressions, taken off the sharp heels of my short life in which I deemed myself to be a saviour for the world of politics, darkness and debauchery of many kinds.  I have licked my wounds.  My soul has risen victoriously!…Open the door and let them have it!”  (…she encouraged me in my work!)

I set to on checking her out via the earthly web and found that she died at the tragically young age of 33 (1919-1952) from cancer (one of our trio had lost her sister from the same dreadful illness, also at a very tender age – could this be what attracted Eva to our triangle?)   I then found that Eva (real name Maria) – although the actress wife of Argentina’s President at the time  - was described as a ’spiritual leader of the Nation of Argentina’ – Again, both myself and the third of us girls could be described as spiritual leaders in our own right,  holding regular spiritual development groups and the like…

After her body was preserved, fought over, obsessed over and hidden in bizarre places over many years she was finally ‘laid to rest’  in the Duarte vault in Recoleta Cemetery, Buenos aires. Is it relevant that this vault rests beneath layers of  steel and  and 7 metres of concrete? …”I was buried in a deep chamber with no hope of ever seeing the light again.”

There are many interesting websites explaining the tragic life and death of this suffrage who sought to close the gap between the rich and the poor and was worshipped by her country, but Eva’s own words resonated deeply with my own work and ethos - could this be why she joined us for coffee?

Apollo剧场这周上演韦伯音乐剧『贝隆夫人』Evita德文版，就是唱红”阿根廷别为我哭泣”的那个戏。演出单位是德国顶级剧团Deutsches Theater Göttingen。目前只剩周日的票还 买得到，最便宜的好像是12块钱，抓紧。Apollo目前还不支持网上订票，要打电话或电邮联系，细节去这里看。不过这个页面对我的Google Chroma浏览器支持很差，请用火狐或ie观看。

如同每个月第一个周六一样，7号早上Geisweid跳蚤市场再次开张，这个相信很多人有兴趣吧。俺只在多年前去过一次，请哪位较有经验的作者帮忙多写两句吧，拜托拜托

周六还有一件很酷的事可以做，锡根快闪族Flashmob们又要搞活动了！这次主题是Freeze，想像一下：周六下午行走在ZOB闹市间，身边几十名行人的动作毫无预兆地全然冻结……想像不出这种超现实场面的话，看这个视频：

最后Vortex的演出还是要说一下，毕竟这周末的节目实在不错。周日晚上演出的是芬兰的史诗奇幻金属团Battlelore，建团十年出了5张唱片，圈内算是颇有些名气的。歌曲内容从乐队穿着就不难看出……如果是喜欢Nightwish，Rhapsody，Dragonforce或者台湾闪灵乐队的，一定不要错过机会。门票12欧，预订的话便宜两块钱。此外周六晚是来自丹麦的Noise-pop乐队Marvin Revolt，如果你已经读到这里了，就请点下连接去myspace上听他们Deliberate Deeds这首歌，非常有趣。

Tremate gente perché i gatti più famosi del mondo sono arrivati anche nella città eterna.

Cats, nato dal genio Andrew Lloyd Webber (ispirato alle poesie di Thomas Stearns Eliot con aggiunte di Trevor Nunn e Richard Stiloge), andato in scena la prima volta al New London Theater nel West End di Londra l’11 maggio 1981 è arrivato anche da noi attraverso la trasposizione teatrale della Compagnia della Rancia, la principale società di produzione di musical in Italia, in questi giorni in scena al Teatro Sistina di Roma.

Dopo quasi 30 anni questi gatti fanno ancora impazzire le platee di tutto il mondo con le loro storie, i loro balli e i loro splendidi costumi (quante ore ci vorranno per far assomigliare il volto umano a quello di un gatto? pensare che c’è gente che paga oro per averlo sotto l’effetto di un bisturi loro ci mettono qualche ore e solo qualche trucco).

Trama: Come ogni anno i gatti della tribù Jellicle si sono dati appuntamento al chiaro di luna per festeggiare insieme al loro leader Deuteronomio, il quale dovrà scegliere chi tra loro passerà al “Dolce aldilà” per rinascere a nuova vita. I Jellicle si presentano e raccontano la loro storia. Tra di loro c’è anche Grisabella, un tempo gatta affascinate ora reietta del gruppo.

Momento speciale e il più celebrato di tutto lo spettacolo è la canzone Memory interpretata dalla stessa Grisabella (canzone poi ripresa da oltre 100 artisti in tutto il mondo compresa Barbra Streisand).

La messa in scena al Teatro Sistina è splendidamente arrangiata e accurata nei dettagli musicali, con ottimi interpreti e meravigliosi costumi. Purtroppo la parte coreografica manca a tratti di stile e di sintonia tra i vari attori.

Malgrado questa pecca Cats rappresenta una un’ottima interpretazione e opportunità di conoscere e apprezzare il musical che ha fatto storia e continua a mietere vittime feline in ogni parte del globo.

Now thats what I call a perfect voice, am I right? This girl is something special.

Louise Dearman is petite, strikingly pretty and has a singing and acting talent that most musical theatre performers would be envious of, what’s more her personality and ability to build a rapport with her audience make watching her a real treat!

Louise has had rave reviews by just about everyone who’s seen her and it’s no surprise with a goose-bump inducing voice like that is it? Her performance as Eva in Bill Kenwright’s Evita left the critics quite blown away, as is always the way when a new star begins to rise. This girl is headed for big things, I can feel it in my bones! So watch this space…

A KCRW affair is always a classy one. This year’s Halloween Masquerade did not disappoint. From the gorgeous setting at the legendary Park Plaza to the central casting styled beautiful people in costumes fit for a movie shoot, there was everything needed for a visual and aural bacchanal.

The grand staircase of the Park Plaza was jammed with incredible ensembles ranging from clever to kitschy. There were the topical and predictable, like a Galifianakis in blu blockers with baby from The Hangover, to costumes so intricate they had moving parts which lit up.

There were hats and gloves, masks, tails and plumes, which scraped floors and door frames. The amount of glitter, feathers and fur left in clumps on the floor of the women’s bathroom made the place look like a kennel in Vegas.

Each level in the historic Neo-Gothic hall had a full bar, spooky projected visuals and grand gothic décor. Out in the back, the premier foodie trucks, Sprinkles Cupcakes, Koji Korean barbeque, Border Grill and Kool Haus served up treats to hungry ghouls.

Gothenberg’s electropoppers Little Dragon dressed in all black like Dieter dancers with brightly colored Aztec paper masks, played their synthy tunes for an enthusiastic crowd in the Bronze room. As Yukimi writhed and waved her oblong tambourine and atoned ala Siouxie over the poppy goth beat, the well dressed crowd didn’t waver for a moment.  She rewarded the audience by dancing harder and singing to the back of the house with Evita arms outstretched. There was a massive response for these Swedes. Angelinos want more Little Dragon and they want it immediately.

Upstairs, the crowd for Sea Wolf was just as great, even though Little Dragon’s set overlapped theirs – the only unfortunate problem during the evening – Alex Church and company took the stage decked out a la Day Of The Dead in black skeleton jumpsuits and white skull faces. True, I was a bit disappointed he wasn’t dressed as Teen Wolf (luckily KCRW DJ Eric Lawrence WAS dressed as the MJ Fox character) but that’s where my disappointment ended. Alex sang the new songs with a confidence I haven’t yet seen from him, which will serve him well once the New Moon hoopla snowballs into insanity.

The band launched into old favorites like ‘Songs For The Dead’ and ‘Black Dirt’, asking Big Bird, Super Mario Bros, Jack and Meg White, and several slutty showgirls in the front row to join the band on the stage steps. As they played their hit ‘You’re A Wolf’, the scary visuals being projected above dissolved into the twins from The Shining which almost pulled focus from the newly charismatic Alex Church. Almost.

Downstairs, DJ Shadow took the decks with 45s, of course, spinning funk and old school favorites. In my eyes, Shadow was the ‘get’ of the night and the clear headliner. He is one of the premiere DJs of his time.

Unfortunately, his crowd was a bit thin, due to the set times overlapping and the fact that he was up against the Jonestown-like fervor of Edward Sharpe and an electronic rave that Jason Bentley was commandeering on the top floor. I’ve never seen men in full Amadeus regalia and powdered wigs dance in a room that was hot enough for a Bikrams yoga class. It was like Bentley had them in a Trance trance and none of them could pull their overly made up bodies away.

Many people filed in the ballroom to watch the final band of the evening, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, perform. Alex Ebert and his polyphonic spree type cult of musicians crowded onto the stage and launched into pleasant singalong sounds. It’s funny to think of Ebert this way. I remember him with the bi-level razored hair and skinny Ima Robot jeans when his songs ‘Scream’ and ‘Dirty Life’ made me do a lil’ indie dance. That was before he made a pilgrimage to Pioneertown and started dressing in all white, all the time. Now, everyone is entitled to a sea change both musically and looks wise. I went back downstairs for more DJ Shadow and for some Garth Trinidad who brought the obvious missing element: Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Decked out as Moses, he used his great, ahem, staff, to part the wheat from the chaff and really make the zombies dance. On the floor. In the round.

Thriller night, indeed. Something for everyone and each one of the senses provoked, the masked masses danced straight into the early hours of All Saints Day.

Como bons turistas que somos, fomos ao Cemitério da Recoleta. Afinal, precisávamos saber tem ali dentro que faz um cemitério ser ponto turístico da cidade.

Para uma sexta-feira (tudo bem que véspera de feriado) encontramos o cemitério cheio e entre os turistas, a maioria brasileiros. O túmulo da Evita é o que tem mais gente em frente, porém tem que perguntar para encontrá-lo, é bem escondido no meio dos vários corredores. Não tem nada demais no túmulo da família Duarte, onde está Eva Duarte Péron.

Outra característica interessante é que os caixões não são enterrados. os túmulos têm gavetas onde eles são colocados. Têm túmulos com escadarias gigantescas para baixo da terra. Vale a pena conhecer pelas obras de arte, belíssimas que alguns túmulos trazem, chega a ser emocionante. Impressiona a onstentação da morte, a tentativa de manter vivo, rico e importante o local onde eternamente ficarão os corpos de pessoas que um dia foram influentes, ricas, sábias, heróicas, boas ou más…

Mais uma coisa que me chamou a atenção é que os túmulos no recoleta são muito mais bem cuidados do que na maioria dos cemitérios brasileiros.

Não era bem isso que a gente queria, mas o casal de velhinhos sentados no degrau do túmulo no fundo se encondeu assim que resolvemos “sacar la photo”.

Mari e o gatinho:

Este túmulo foi o que mais me emocionou. É de uma jovem de vinte e poucos anos, agora não me recordo a idade correta. A escultura dela e seu cachorro é linda e a flor viva em sua mão é tão contrária a frieza e dureza da escultura em bronze ao lado de onde jaz seu caixão. Não sei se entendi bem, mas parece que o seu cão companheiro também foi enterrado ali.

Atenção para os detalhes no colchão, no pano e nas expressões dela e do bebê. Um sono profundo e uma belíssima demonstração de amor e dor com a perda.

Lo spettacolo Evita,  prima di diventare un film di grande successo, è stato uno spettacolo apprezzato nel West End.

Il Musical sembrava un genere in declino invece proprio con Evita è stato rilanciato, indimenticabile il brano Don’t Cry for Me Argentina, come anche i brani Another Suitcase in Another Hall, She is a Diamond.

Lo spettacolo racconta la storia di Eva Peron, moglie del dittatore argentino Juan Peron e sono evidenziati gli aspetti positivi e negativi di una donna ambigua e controversa, con un intreccio di musiche che delineano la vita di Eva  fino alla sua tragica fine.

One of the characters sang, Close your eyes, close your eyes . . .  and I did. We had young children at the time and sleep deprivation triumphed over the excitement of a night out.

2. ENZO (Or was it ENSO?) – Otago Museum. The NZ Symphony Orchestra and NZ Ballet playing & dancing to the music of Split Enz. 

The bits I was awake for were amazing but again the need for sleep was greater than the desire to watch the entertainment.

3. Evita at the Regent Theatre in Dunedin.

Another wonderful performance but I still couldn’t resist the temptation to have some very long blinks.

5.  Mama Mia at the TSB Arena in Wellington last night.

It’s been one of those fortnights this week and when the lights dimmed gravity pulled my eyelids down. That shouldn’t be regarded as a reflection on the show. I was wide awake for the second half and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Der Komponist Andrew Lloyd Webber (Phantom der Oper, Evita) ist an Prostatakrebs erkrankt. Die Krankheit sei bei ihm allerdings noch im Frühstadium. Der 61-jährige hofft nun noch vor Jahresende seine Arbeit wieder aufnehmen zu können. Sein aktuelles Projekt ist eine Fortsetzung des Klassikers Phantom der Oper, die den Titel Love Never Dies tragen wird. Zuletzt war es ruhiger um den umjubelten Musiker geworden, seinen letzten Auftritt hatte er beim Eurovision Song Contest, wo seine Komposition My Time den fünften Platz belegte.

Prostatakrebs ist einer der häufigsten Krebserkrankungen des Mannes. Allein in Deutschland erkranken jährlich 58000 Menschen an ihr; bei der Gruppe der an Krebs erkrankten Männer sterben im Schnitt etwas 10% daran. Die Bekämpfung der Krankheit ist bisher kein explizit formuliertes nationales Gesundheitsziel.

De acordo com o site Olhar Direto, o compositor britânico Andrew Lloyd Webber, de 61 anos, mundialmente famoso como autor de musicais como “O Fantasma da Ópera” e “Evita”, foi diagnostica com câncer de próstata, segundo informou neste domingo, 25.10.2009, seu porta-voz:

No comunicado à imprensa, a assessoria de Webber afirma que a condição da doença ainda está em seus “estágios iniciais” e que o músico já está sob tratamento.

English composer of musical theatre Andrew Lloyd Webber has been diagnosed with cancer. The diagnosis was for prostate cancer that is in it’s early stages. He is undergoing treatment as of now and is expected to be OK by the end of the year. He is well know for his musicals Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Jesus Christ Superstar. Also, he penned Boyzone’s great “No Matter What” and Evita’s “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina. Plus, Jade Ewen (the newest addition to the Sugababes) had a solo semi-hit with “My Man” for Eurovision, which is another song he wrote.
