Just arrived from the Algarve for a very different weekend. We thought that it would be cool to spend the weekend off and check out the Rally Casinos do Algarve and we weren’t wrong, cause it was cool.

Besides the rain it was pretty good we had a good time and i had the chance to take a few pictures of the cars in one of the stages. couldn’t take any pics Saturday night because of the lousy weather, i was a bit afraid to take the camera (chicken) so i left it at the hotel.

Sunday morning, no rain, and there we were at one of the specials.

I’m just gonna post two or three pics, the first one is from the only girl in the competition Isabel Ramos. She is one hell of a driver.

Ricardo Teodósio below always showing off.

No luck for F.Gomes below, i think he managed to finish the stage in spite of the flat tire.

Went to watch Pro AM yesterday, got there a lil late, but still managed to catch the Top 8.

Wes found out a dope spot behind the ticket purchasing building, there was a flight of stairs behind the building that he spotted and we snuck around and sat up there. This gave us a perfect view of the initiation and the bank and also the whole course =). Plus, we didn’t have to pay wuhahah.

This dude ended up getting 1st place. He was from Canada I believe. Nice R32 SEDAN! WAH000 MY FAVORITE!

I was kinda surprised by the outcome. Normally these events are dominated by SoCal drifters, but for this event it seemed like SoCal drifters were the miniority. Many drivers came in from all over, like Washington, Texas, Canada, etc. I am happy that some of the people I drove with in Pro AM last year finally got their licenses such as Kelvin Arreola and Cyrus Martinez. I will be looking forward to seeing how they will do in Long Beach =), now theres more people to cheer for hehe. It was cool being back at a drift event, saw lotsa familiar faces, lotsa people asked why I wasn’t driving lol. Blah.

This nice looking battle-scarred and beaten Cressida was one of the drivers, I think he was from Texas. Dude kept spinning though =\, but nice car. Wes was really happy to see that people were actually drifting Cressidas and etc since he had one as his first car =).

JTuned had this mini auto-show thingy going on and Ben spotted Gordon with his sick daily driven 120,000 mile Evo 8 MR.

Thing is fking sexy! It’s a really complete build, but its still not finished yet. He has an Autopower roll cage inside, along with Recaro Pole Position bucket, harnesses, etc. In the motor he has a pretty crazy turbo setup, an HKS GT3037 I believe with many supporting mods. He’s actually running a Apex’i Power FC ECU which is pretty rare to use in the states as most people just tune off the stock ECU these days. Suspension is legit as well and you can obviously see the awesomeness of the exterior. He has a super rare Cusco wing, I think he said only him and somebody else has it in the states. I still can’t believe this thing is daily driven around the streets of LA, and he still keeps it so clean and intact like this. Crazy! PROPS!

I know Porsches are ugly as sin, but just for that reason they’re that astonishing… Wait let me say that better: Porsches are so ugly they’re just ultimately amazing to look at. And the latest Panamera reinforced this idea!

But oddly, I (personally) think the 2010 Porsche Boxster Spyder is the very first good looking Porsche… from behind!

Though it looks the part, it’s the technical data that will blow your mind, cause this Boxster Spyder is lighter than a Honda Civic Si Coupe and has about 320bhp, matted to a twin-clutch transmission dubbed “PDK”, engineered by the wackos at Porsche with the help of GETRAG… yes, the same people behind the Mitsubishi Evo X MR’s TC-SST.

Technical Data

Engine:
3.4 l flat-6 320hp @ 7,200rpm 273 lb-f.t. @ 4,750rpm.

Weights:
Boxster Spyder 2,811 lbs. (2,866 lbs. with PDK Transmission)

Performance:
0-60 mph: 4.9s Manual | 4.7s PDK

Oh and it goes for about $61,000.00 + a $30,000+ list of accessories including the PDK Transmission upgrade which is a must!

I love a successful session of browsing on the Internet. Let me share two discoveries. Both of the following online resources would be useful during lesson preparation.

My search began at a colleague’s site. Ryan Detwiler’s eslvideo.com offers authentic videos coupled with ESL quizzes. The sources include commercials, news reports, movie clips, and more. The level of the quizzes range from beginner to high intermediate. The existing quizzes are ready-made materials to be included or expanded upon within a lesson. You can even design your own quiz based on a source of your choosing, all of which gives you the flexibility to target any number of skills, from listening to grammar. Ryan Detwiler will be presenting and illustrating the uses of his site in during TESOL’s Electronic Village Online 6-week session to be held in January and February 2010. (See the TESOL site for further details. Session title My Video Classroom 2.0.)

Following a series of links from eslvideo.com, I ended up familiarizing myself with a tool designed by the University of Hong Kong. Vocabulary Profiler is a simple but useful tool for vocabulary-centered lessons. If you enter a text, the program indicates high frequency words, giving special attention to words appearing on Coxhead’s Academic Word List (AWL). Although it’s possible to work on instinct and highlight vocabulary we think our students should know, it’s also good to have confirmation that our selection will be of value to the students. A set of lyrics, an excerpt from a novel, or a complete online article could be copied and pasted into this program, and we’d be guided in our decision regarding what vocabulary to study.

My bro’s camera ran low on battery and died pretty quickly, so I didn’t get that many shots of the cars. Later on I started taking a few pics with the iPhone, so ya blah =\. It’ll be a combo of both.

*NOTE* WORDPRESS RESIZED THE PICTURES WHICH MADE THEM BLURRY, PLEASE CLICK AND VIEW THEIR FULL SIZE, SORRY!

Looking out from the front entrance. You can see my car sorta, next to the white Subie wagon.

Omg, this STi was SOOOO low! It was on 18×9.5 +15 Enkei RPF1 with 215/35/18 stretched on. Hardcore. Best part of all? Its owned by a chick, and she dailys it.

Yuta’s infamous 240Z.

A31 Cefiro, pretty rare sight to see in the States.

After the rain, lots of people whipped out their microfiber towels and detailing supplies. I remember seeing this Evo about 3 years ago after D1 in Las Vegas. It looked much more stock back then. It’s crazy how far it has progressed. I think they said he still daily drives this.

Went to bed at around 11 pm but couldn’t fall asleep till around 12 I guess. Woke up at 1:35 ish and showered. Left the house with Pat at around 2 ish to head out to north LA to meet up with the WFC caravan at Dennys.

Got to Dennys in Sylmar at around 3:20 ish, we were the first ones there. About 5 min after we got there, a couple Subaru’s show up. A sick Legacy and two wagons =).

They just came up from Temecula.

We went inside to sit down and grab something to eat. More and more cars started rolling in and etc.

CamberSC’s SC400, ridiculous! So wide!

Car meet at 4:00 am, ridiculous lol

We waited for Josh and others to roll in and etc then headed out for NorCal at 4:30 am.

There was about 15 of us. It was a pretty nuts sight ahaha. Super low cars bouncing and scraping along haha. Every time there was a big bump, you would smell tire smoke as the tires rub against everyone’s fenders lol.

We made our first stop about 2 hours into the drive at a 76 gas station.

There was a flock of birds flying around pretty low and suddenly one of the birds comes zooming and flys straight into the store’s window. It landed on the ground and twitched a little bit, then it stopped moving. One of the guys goes and touches it with his foot and it suddenly sits up but still remains motionless. Probably in shock or something. About 2 minutes after this happened another bird hits the window but not as hard as the first one, lol. At this time we were all like, ok lets GTFO lol.

When TK San told me he was hitting up Knockhill for a track day held by the guys over @ Track Scotland, I knew I needed to get my ass down there and snap the shots.. The conditions.. were, well.. Wet. Cold and overal, not too pleasant to be standing in what can only be described as a glorified bus shelter.. however; needs must when it comes to Automotive Photography.

I wrote once before about viewing our colleagues as a resource. As part of our professional developm

I wrote once before about viewing our colleagues as a resource. As part of our professional development, I suggested tapping into an online teaching community to read about issues common to all classrooms, conducting peer observations to make us reflective teachers, and keeping a communication board in the staff room on which teachers could post tricky language questions for consideration and discussion. What else can our colleagues do for us? What can we do for them? Here are a few ideas.

Share lesson plans. As an experienced teacher, your lesson plans may be so abbreviated that they may look something like a cross between a secret code and chicken scratch, but consider the benefits of rewriting a particularly successful lesson plan in a readable format and sharing it with your peers. Aren’t you curious to know what practices others are using in their classrooms? The exercise of reviewing someone else’s lesson plan makes you reflect on choices she or he made. You think about how you might have done things differently, but realize that this particular sequence of steps led to successful learning. If you’re part of a school staff, you can consider different platforms for sharing. For example, this can be done on a rotating basis at your monthly staff meeting. The presenter of the month can distribute hard copies for review. Online options for exchanging lesson plans include file sharing via a Yahoo Group, a wiki, or a virtual office at Tapped In. (Digital documents are great because they save paper and can be archived.)

Share links. There are so many ESL/EFL-related sites out there. How can we find them? When you discover a good one, do you share it with your colleagues? The folks at TESOL’s Electronic Village taught me about social bookmarking. What a great concept!

Exchange the favor of reviewing/ editing materials. Despite the fact that there are great printed resources out there, you still might find yourself (or choose to place yourself) in the position of writing original lesson or test material. Rule #1 about materials writing: proofread. Rule #2: Have someone else proofread when possible. It really helps to have a second set of eyes, and if that set of eyes belongs to a fellow teacher, she or he can also provide feedback regarding the overall quality of your work.

Share your knowledge. There’s so much we can learn from one another. Sometimes it’s a small piece of information, such as some insight into pronouncing foreign names because you know a language that a colleague doesn’t. Other times it could be a set of skills. For example, I mentioned in another posting that colleagues may be able teach you how to use the technology you want to bring into your teaching. Perhaps you want to share links with colleagues and students. You’ve heard of social bookmarking, but never tried it. Try asking another teacher. Maybe she or he has an account on Delicious and can show you how it works.

So much of our time is spent in the company of our students or alone as we prepare our lessons and correct assignments. The time we spend with our peers may not amount to much in comparison, but it’s important. Whether it’s a staff room at a school or a virtual office, we need a place to interact with one another. Through our exchanges we can offer support and even promote one another’s professional development. Of course, realistically, not every shared moment is going to be work-related…and that’s fine. Enjoying one another’s company through a recap of a fun weekend or a discussion of recent news has a purpose, too. It creates comfort and familiarity. Our relationships grow, and we then feel more secure in taking and offering support. Besides, conversation and shared laughter add a warmth that every work environment needs.

The Ancestral Diet Meets Modern Nutrition

Traditionally, dry pet foods required a significant concentration of grains and carbohydrate-rich ingredients to aid in the manufacturing of a crunchy kibble pet food. Natura challenged this tradition, and developed unique manufacturing processes to create the first-ever grain free, low carbohydrate dry pet food. Removing grains and dropping carbs leads to many benefits for our beloved four-legged friends.

The protein in EVO is derived from premium quality meats that are highly digestible, highly palatable and provide maximum nutrient absorption. Fresh meats provide vital nutrients like amino acids (such as lysine and taurine), essential minerals, and other key building blocks that encourage strong bones and muscles.

EVO Herring & Salmon Formula Dry Dog Food is grain free. By removing ALL grain from the diet, EVO minimizes starch or carbohydrate intake while maximizing the concentration of protein. In fact, EVO provides high-quality protein at a level that is among the highest available anywhere. In addition, EVO also contains a source of viable, naturally occurring microorganisms and has both linoleic acid (an omega-6 fatty acid), and combines omega-3 fatty acids, glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate to support joint health.

EVO Benefits

Grain free for when extra carbs and grain intolerances are a concern

High levels of protein from quality meat, poultry and fish

Excellent palatability

Skin and coat health

High digestibility and decreased waste

Energy and nutrient-dense

Formulated with added antioxidant vitamins

Fortified with vitamins and minerals

EVO Herring & Salmon Formula Dry Dog Food is now available at Earth Pets Organic Feed & Garden. It comes in 6.6 lb, 13.2 lb, and 28.6 lb bags.

Source Interlink Media held its Super Lap Battle finals at Buttonwillow Raceway Park’s Race 13 clock

Source Interlink Media held its Super Lap Battle finals at Buttonwillow Raceway Park’s Race 13 clockwise configuration today. All of the ink and paper outlets should have the complete story in a few months but if you can’t wait here are the dirty deets as reported by our boys at Everything Time Attack. It looks like David Empringham took/ate/slathered with hot sauce the whole enchilada in the Sierra Sierra Evo VIII with a 1:45.061. This is not too close to the 1:43.523 overall record held by Nobuteru Taniguchi in the HKS CT230R Evo VIII but an impressive time nonetheless for a car that is very much still in development.

The Sierra Sierra Evo is a bit of an enigma in the time attack world, like someone who eats their waffles with syrup and no butter (now THAT’S messed up). This car is built to FIA GT3 specs in a field of cobbled together tuner cars. On another note, this 8 will be retired after this season, as Sierra Sierra is already hard at work on an Evo X with a Cosworth built 4B11. Hit the jump to see some more good times from Buttonwillow.

Second fastest time of the day was Billy Johnson in the FX Motorsports Development Unlimited FR NSX just a couple tenths from the overall with a 1:45.247. I’m sure this team struggled as Yokohama, their tire sponsor, does not make a DOT tire with a wide enough cross section to allow this car to lay down its full fury. I believe the car ran on the A048 Advans as opposed to the Yok slicks they are allowed to run in the Redline Time Attacks. Next year we’ll also see an all-new NSX with a full race build from FX.

Our bestest Vaka-Mon Eiji “Tarzan” Yamada was third overall with a 1:45.552 in the Crawford Performance Subaru STI. This is a timeless Tarzan classic as the time was no doubt achieved with some balls out driving skill as this car needs more power and tire, less weight and better aero.

Paul Gerrard brought the AMS Performance Evo X home in fourth overall with a 1:46.829. From what we understand the car caught fire and the AMS crew will have to struggle to scrub the char from this car in time for this weekend’s Redline Time Attack. Now’s the time to exploit that NOS energy drink sponsorship, boys.

Other times of note include Kip Olson with a 1:48.072 in his NSX as well as the big Ragu, Christian Rado in his fwing’d tC with a 1:49.703, which was no doubt the fastest FF time of the day and also an overall class record finally toppling the long-standing time of the GM Cobalt. And Brian Lock drove his 800hp GoTo Racing R35 GT-R to a 1:50.022. Special thanks to the bank, er Source Interlink Management for presenting this time attack. Somebody get these guys a cookie.
