ATENCIÓN: VIOLENCIA EXTREMA EXPLÍCITA

Richard es contratado para matar a un hombre hecho de la familia Gigante. La muerte estaba autorizada por los propios Gigante. Le fue asignado un equipo, pero sus compañeros no hicieron falta. Richard, desde un vehículo, disparó nueve balas en tres segundos, con un rifle Roger de precisión, recortado, silenciado, al tipo a la luz del día, en una calle transitada. Nadie les vio. Desaparecieron con el tráfico y sólo al rato el cadáver empezó a sangrar.

Aquel golpe le hizo famoso entre los Gigante, y trabajó con ellos durante un tiempo.

Después, De Meo volvió a requerirle. Un negro de Harlem, un chulo de colores que no quiere pagar. Richard es encargado de que éste tipo pague o muera. Richard se acerca al local, un garito atestado de negros peligrosos, acompañado de un par de matones de De Meo. Al parecer, uno de ellos conoce al moroso, de la cárcel. Una vez en la puerta, Richard se ofrece para acompañarle, pero el socio declina. Es mejor que vaya solo. Tú mismo. El tipo entra, y a los pocos minutos, recibe un tiro en un costado. Richard entra después, y recibe un golpe en la frente con un bate de béisbol. Sale el socio como puede. Richard quiere entrar y acabar el trabajo. -Son demasiados- dice el socio. Y conducen en retirada hasta el matadero, que es como el hampa llamaba a la trastienda de De Meo. Allí se hacen con dos Mac-10 para los matones de De Meo. Richard agarra un barrecalles, escopeta de configuración potente y gran cadencia de disparo. Imaginen una escopeta de cartuchos con un tambor giratorio, como los revólveres, pero con muchas más balas que un revolver. Eso es lo que cogió Richard. Un dragón que escupe fuego. Se plantaron frente al local con el coche, y entraron a saco disparando hasta matar a todo el local.

Aquello había sido una chapuza, Richard se daba perfecta cuenta. Pero la historia corrió de boca en boca, y los encargos se multiplicaron. Trabajando solo, buscaba una escena contraria a las que solía proponer De Meo: silencio, sigilo, paciencia, limpieza. Por eso cuando trabaja solo, tiende a simplificarlo todo. Así, sus métodos preferidos son el del pinchazo y el de las ratas, en los cuales apenas tocaba a la víctima. Además, fotografiar al tipo siendo pasto de aquellos roedores siempre dejaba satisfecho al cliente. Cuando Richard empezó a grabar en vídeo todo el proceso de las ratas, la historia de Kuklinski volvió a estar en boca del hampa. Más aún, algún cliente llegó a quedar consternado por aquellas imágenes. Y muy pocos  llegaban a ver la película completa. Ni siquiera Roy de Meo era capaz. Sólo Richard podía pasar horas contemplándolas sin inmutarse.

El siguiente trabajo fue muy importante para De Meo. Le habían encargado una muerte, uno de los de dentro. De Meo siempre encargaba éste tipo de trabajos a Richard. El cual aceptó encantado. Sabía que aquello era importante, porque el tipo a abatir era importante, y debía mucho dinero.

Richard viajó a Los Angeles y acechó a su víctima durante días. El tipo sabía que andaban tras de él y era muy precavido. Siempre salía custodiado. Pero vivía solo. Y la mayor parte del tiempo, no salía. Vivía encerrado en su casa. Richard probó un método que había visto en los dibujos de la Warner: tocó el timbre, y cuando alguien asomó a la mirilla, disparó a través del orificio. Con el silenciador, y en un momento en que no había nadie en la calle, Richard desapareció sin problemas. El tipo murió en el acto. El golpe fue tan bien ejecutado que De Meo fue, finalmente, ascendido a Hombre Hecho de la familia Gambino.

Richard siempre buscaba simplificar al máximo cada trabajo. Por eso prefería trabajar solo. Además, lo que le molestaba de que los hombres de De Meo supieran sus andanzas era que no tenía el completo control. Cualquiera de aquellos psicópatas podía utilizar esa información. Por eso, Richard trataba de limpiar sus huellas siempre, hacer el menor ruido posible.

Porque De Meo, como Hombre Hecho, volvió a subir un escalón en su propio historial de chulería y despotismo. Se paseaba por ahí hinchado como un gallo de corral. Él y sus hombres iban de acá para allá envueltos en una nube de cocaina y alcohol. Aquellos psicópatas degenerados, cocainómanos y armados, ahora tenían poder. Y lo usaron. Sus niveles de paranoia y descontrol eran tales, que Roy de Meo resolvía cualquier duda matando a alguien. Ante la duda, mata al tipo. Y si dudas entre dos, mátalos a ámbos. Y asunto arreglado. Richard sacó mucho trabajo de ahí, pero sabía que aquella situación no podía durar. El ramo se iba a quedar sin nadie a quien matar.

Un día, Roy De Meo invitó a Richard a pasear en su barco. Richard aceptó. También se presentaron otros matones de Roy. Dieron una vuelta en el barco. Llegaron hasta una zona infestada de tiburones, y De Meo acusó a uno de ellos de ser un chivato. Acto seguido le disparó en la cara. Aún vivo, lo tiraron a los tiburones. Richard vio en los tiburones un fantástico método para deshacerse de los cadáveres. Le recordaban a sus ratas. Eran la misma cosa. Los bichos se encargan de todo el trabajo.

Porque las ratas de aquella cueva engordaron. Su voracidad era tal que se comían incluso los huesos y la ropa. Ni siquiera esperaban ya a que Richard se marchara para empezar el festín. Llegaban a tener el tamaño de gatos bien alimentados, y recibían a Richard con chillidos, mirándole llegar con la nueva presa. Con el tiempo, Richard dejó de ir a la cueva de las ratas porque las ratas ya no le tenían miedo. Richard se lo tenía a ellas.

Buscando perfeccionarse en el sigilo, Richard empezó a interesarse por los venenos. Entonces se acordó de Phil Solimene. Solimene era un maleante que conseguía muchas cosas. Siempre andaba por el barrio, consiguiendo cosas. En época de vacas flacas, Solimene contrataba a Richard para que matara a tipos a los que robar. Solimene concertaba una venta en su almacén, el tipo traía la pasta, zis, zas. Pero eso era antes. Ahora, el negocio iba bien, y con De Meo al mando del barrio, Solimene conseguía muchas armas y drogas, y Richard trabajaba todo el tiempo. Y Richard llamó a Solimene.

-¿Tienes quién me consiga venenos, y cómo usarlos? Phil le presentó a Paul Hoffmann, un farmacéutico de confianza. Le enseñó los principales venenos, las toxins más letales, cómo manipularlas, y cómo dosificarlas. Richard quería un veneno que no pudieran detectar los médicos en una autopsia. Hoffmann comprendió que lo que buscaba Richard era cianuro. Enseñó a Richard a calcular la dosis perfecta: demasiado veneno, y los médicos lo detectarán. Demasiado poco, y la víctima no morirá. Solimene consiguió el cianuro.

Tony Scanelli, de los bonanno, debía morir. Un golpe difícil, pues el tipo no se separaba de sus guardaespaldas. Richard lo siguió hasta un garito en el que todo el mundo andaba apretujado. Richard se arrimó a Scanelli un momento. Le pinchó con la aguja más fina que pudo encontrar, y le inyectó una dosis muy ajustada. El tipo apenas se dio cuenta, y murió un minuto después, con Richard saliendo por la puerta. La autopsia no detectó el veneno, ni siquiera el pinchazo.

Richard supo valorar el cianuro como arma insustituible. Indetectable, silenciosa e invisible, aquella sustancia letal enamoró a Richard, que en lo sucesivo llegó a adquirir gran maestría en la aplicación de la dosis exacta.

Así, De Meo encargó a Richard la muerte de Billy Mana. Richard le conocía. Quedó con él a tomar una copa, y cuando Mana fue al servicio, Richard echó en la bebida una dosis mínima de cianuro. Mana terminó su bebida, y murió un minuto después. ¡Un infarto! ¡Un infarto! ¡Médico!- gritó Richard antes de escabullirse en el tumulto y desaparecer para siempre. Ataque al corazón. Caso cerrado.

Richard adquiere así la fama del fantasma. Si el Polaco quiere que mueras, caes seco con la cara hundida en los spaghetti. Su fama le hace viajar por todo el país, repartiendo infartos. Papá Noel de la Muerte. La mafia no le da descanso.

De Meo le vuelve a llamar a filas, y le pide que haga de guardaespaldas en una charla muy tensa con otro gallito del corral. Richard, a sabiendas de que el imprevisible De Meo es sinónimo de exceso y de charcos de sangre, no sabe negarse. Cada día acaricia con más anhelo el momento de deshacerse de De Meo. Pero, por el momento, tiene que plegarse a él. Enfrentarse a la mafia significa tu muerte, y la muerte de los tuyos.La entrevista sale bien, pero Richard sabe que trabajar junto a De Meo es exponerse a una muerte segura, a medio plazo.

Richard compra una oficina en las afueras, desde la que puede llevar sus negocios sin implicar a su familia. Es también un lugar donde estar solo los días en que sabe que va a montarla en casa. Su segundo hogar, su cuartel de operaciones. Una nevera, un escritorio, unos archivadores, una cama, unos armarios secretos, una caja fuerte, buena visibilidad de los alrededores.

Richard siguió experimentando con el veneno. Así, le fue encargada la muerte de Henry Marino, un hombre hecho, un cocainómano que había cometido ya demasiados errores. De Meo llamó a Richard. Richard preparó una dosis para Marino, y se hizo pasar por traficante. Dio a Marino una muestra de cocaína con cianuro, y Marino se fue él solito al baño. Ya nunca salió.

En otra ocasión, Richard fue contratado por un equipo de ladrones para entrar en casa de un millonario. Dieron el golpe, y se reunieron para repartir el botín. Al no llegar a un acuerdo, Richard fue al McDonalds y envenenó todas las hamburguesas menos la suya. Al llegar de vuelta, cada uno se comió su big-mac, y al minuto estaban todos muertos. Así era más fácil dividir el botín. Limpió la escena tomándose su tiempo, y los dejó allí. Luego, fue a ver al que le había conseguido el trabajo, y le dio parecido tratamiento.

Richard decidió especializarse en veneno. Era casi imposible relacionarle con el cadáver, usando la dosis exacta de cianuro. El cianuro le distinguía de De Meo. Era lo contrario de De Meo. Todo lo contrario.

No hay ningún asesino que me de más escalofríos que Richard Kuklinski. Esperamos con máximo interés las noticias que se vayan dando. Por lo pronto, Mickey Rourke parece la elección perfecta, si aguanta otro lifting sin saltar por los aires, claro. Bromas aparte, Rourke es perfecto para el papel.

La película la dirigen dos hermanos desconocidos. Por nuestra parte, siempre hemos imaginado la película de Kuklinski dirigida por Scorsese, por motivos obvios, o tal vez Michael Mann, privilegiado retratista urbano. El proyecto es mucho más pequeño, sin embargo. Esperamos que haga justicia a una historia así, pues requiere una ambientación difícil de evocar (el pasado inmediato, años sesenta a noventa) y requiere además un metraje más largo que corto, pues son muchos los hechos relevantes, muchos personajes necesariamente presentes, y toda una trama policial y mafiosa llena de caracteres vistosos. Aunque Rourke está perfecto ahí, nosotros pensábamos en Sean Penn muy gordo.

Polifrone será digno de ver, pues la presencia del personaje real era estrambótica, con sombrero, peluquín cantoso y bigotillo, que llega a tener gran importancia en la vida de Kuklinski.

También veíamos a Sean Penn. De hecho, veíamos a Sean Penn haciendo todos los papeles.Incluídas las hijas.

De Meo es otro personaje excesivo. Benicio del Toro sería la elección obvia. Yo propongo a Blanca Portillo. No, en serio, no tenemos a De Meo. Se aceptan apuestas. No tendrá precio verlo aparecer con su primo Drácula irrumpiendo en la calle y arrinando el golpe a Kuklinski. Y cuando encañone a Richard con la UZI.

Por no hablar de la escena en que Richard coja miedo de las ratas. Eso será digno de ver, también. Por cierto, nuestra opción más antigua para Kuklinski, la primera vez que leímos el libro de Philip Carlo y repasamos el numeroso material en internet, fue la de John Lithgow, pero ya está quemado porque hace el serial de la cuarta temporada de Dexter, con que está quemado para el papel. Además, cartoniano. Pero el tipo sería perfecto para un Lithgow más joven.

A John Lithgow le encontramos, además, gran parecido con Orson Scott Card, que no contestó a nuestra carta, por cierto.

Otra situación que demuestra este hecho lo constituyen las contingencias, un caso recurrente que se debe mostrar en las notas a los estados financieros es la fecha en la cual se puede realizar una Auditoria Tributaria y generar posiblemente un efecto sobre los resultados.

Por ello esta situación más que ser un defecto en la información contable, constituye un esfuerzo por incluir en la información financiera los efectos que no siempre van a tener una base exacta para su reconocimiento.

Por ello en un dictamen de información financiera, los auditores deben expresar su conformidad con relación a la presentación razonable de la misma, y no se usa la expresión exacta debido a los considerándoos anteriormente explicados.

Last Monday I went to the LYDM (Little Yellow Dance Machine) party at Sullivan Room.  This was my first time going, but it’s a weekly party that started in August thrown by one of my good friends, and favorite house DJ, DJ Exacta. Sullivan Room is in Soho; kind of a discreet underground bar with a great sound system and cheap drinks…  From the outside it just looks like a door with a bouncer standing outside, but go in and twist down some old cement stairs and you are in a music charged dungeon of dance…

When I went last week, I ran into a bunch of friends and old acquaintances, which was really nice, but because this party is new, and I think that a lot of people don’t know about it yet, the crowd was kind of small.  However, from what my friends are saying, there are more and more people every week and as word starts spreading it is only getting better and better…

The best part about LYDM:  THE MUSIC.

Because these are my best friends doing the party, of course my opinion is a bit more biased than my other blogs, but the music really is great.  AND, even though I’ve been a little sick of house lately, I always love Exacta. His music is fresh, creative, and fun.  Whenever and wherever I go see him spin I have an awesome time and leave happy.  Also, the atmosphere at Sullivan is unpretentious and friendly, which makes it even better.

The reason I hadn’t gone to LYDM before was because I was traveling, but it’s a cool party with great music and I plan on going on a regular basis.  I think this party has a lot of potential to become a cool on-going place for the club industry to unwind and/or windup on our night off!  The party is every Monday night and kicks off around 11 PM.

Bang 10 Poster

Almost 9 months to the day Current ran a piece about Liquid Ice closing its door’s for the last time. Those doors did reopen and while there was no name change, there were new owners. Stacy Coish and the original team said they weren’t going anywhere and true to their word, Liquid Ice Promotions has made good on that promise. Already the group has successfully put off 2 events and the third Liquid Ice Promotions presentation happens in just one week!

The scene for djing and electronic music has exponentially grown in St. John’s over the last few years especially. It’s a community that was really always there but the culture has grown and more people understand the artistic merit behind it. Coish has recognized and understood the different sounds and sub-genres for years along with the partners and resident dj’s he’s worked with, past and present. He’s responsible for not only exposing the St. John’s scene to some of the world’s most incredible djing talents, he’s also fostered a lot of the local talent by providing them with truly creative venues to play in.

After turning away from the weekly business, the promotions company can just focus on putting off concentrated events that pack a punch. The first two were hosted by The Abbey, a gourmet restaurant tucked away in The Spa at the Monastery. Guests were treated to a fine meal with an intimate dance party afterwards. The first, in June, featured the talents of Toronto’s Sydney Blu and the second, 2 months later, brought back former cornerstone Liquid Ice resident Kevin Penny.

Passionate patrons of the former Liquid Ice will also remember the place was famous for monthly events. Liquid Love for Valentines Day and Scared for Halloween, which was sorely missed last week. But, there’s no need to fret! One of those monthly events – BANG! – which is the longest running dj event and anniversary of the first party ever thrown is not even close to retirement yet. For its third event, Liquid Ice Promotions is holding on to BANG for the 10th year and it couldn’t be bigger.

Bang 10 will feature the talents of DJ Exacta, a resident dj from New York City whose accomplishments continue to grow and include the world’s finest nightclubs. Exacta took up residency at Pacha in 2005 when the NYC location was opened and he’s played at the original Ibiza location as well as Amnesia, Godskitchen in the UK, Space in Miami and Guvernment in Toronto. He’s played alongside tastemakers and trendsetters like Pete Tong, Oakenfold and Tiesto as well as David Guetta and Armand Van Helden. On November 15th he’ll play alongside the local talents of m0xY, Sina, Mike Taylor and Leo Van Ulden at The Stellar Club on Henry Street.

Exacta’s sound has been described as sexy and unique and is genuinely rooted in a soul education from listening to records in his basement in Queens as a child. He picked up the drums and joined his highschool jazz band but turned them in for turntables eventually becoming a dj in New York City hip hop clubs. His evolutionary sound brought him to house and he’s produced over a dozen of his own tracks as well as mixes for Suzanne Palmer, Paris Hilton and Nelly Furtado.

• IP2Location: Similar a la anterior, muestra los mismos datos, y también puede ubicar la IP en un mapa.
• Whats Is My IP Address?: Similar a las anteriores, con la única diferencia que muestra si la IP pertenece a una organización, corporación, etc.
• IP Address Location: Similar a las anteriores, pero esta ofrece más herramientas como hacer ping, convertir una IP a decimal, hacer whois de una dominio o IP, ver los DNS, entre otros.

Puedes utilizar estas herramientas y buscar la que mejor te guste. En los países donde asignen IP dedicadas o fijas, podrás encontrar inclusive la dirección exacta del hojar o edificio donde sea utilizada.

Over the years I have had experience with quite a few cameras but the ones below I loved:

1943 – Age 8 – A Brownie Box camera was my first personal camera and my first picture was of my parents’ tummies. 1944 – 48 – I took a few pictures with my dad’s Bolsy B-2, 35 mm camera.

I thought this was a great camera.
49 – 52 – My grandfather had an Argus C3 which I got to use a few times.

I took a few family photos at Xmas parties when he wanted to be in the picture.

1952 – Age 17 -With money I earned working in a drive-in theater I bought an Edinex 35mm camera. Which was a full function camera about the size of a Leica. It cost about $13 and may be considered a poor man’s Leica. It had all the controls – variable speed, variable aperture, full focus, a viewfinder and a quick shutter.

This is the Edinex, but with a much less impressive lens than a Leica. I took a picture of lightning near Antelope, Oregon, in July of 1953 which “accidentally” got mixed in the Santa Barbara Camera Club’s monthly photos by my father, who was a member at that time. And, totally unexpected by him and totally unknown to me, won slide of the year. He had a giant trophy for a couple of months until it was discovered that he hadn’t taken the picture.

1954 – I got a job in Anchorage, Alaska, that summer helping to construct housing at Elmendorf Air Force Base. With most of the money I earned I went off to enroll in Washington State College, but with some of it I bought an Exa.

I loved this heavy and rather clunky camera because you could see the exact edges of the image. With all of those previous cameras there was always some question as to where the picture ended – what was in, what was out. With color slides you want to know exactly where the edges of the picture are because that is exactly what is going to be projected on screen as there is no cropping after the picture is taken.

1957 – I went to New York city to attend the Ethical Culture Society’s Encampment for Citizenship, a wonderful, life enhancing experience. I had arrived a few days early but for some reason didn’t have a camera with me, so I went down to Broadway and 42 Street to the world famous camera store and looked at a Minox. I didn’t have enough money to buy one so I went over to the Bellevue Hospital and sold a pint of blood and came back and bought a pre-war stainless steel Minox-Riga. I lost it in the Berkeley Marina field in 1969 and now it is a priceless collectors treasure.

It was a bit heavy for its size but I liked it because it was so small and could make okay 4 x 5 black and white photos. These were good for record shots but not very good to show to anyone. It could make color slides returned from the processing in a little multi-sleeve viewer which seemed really clever. Everything about that camera was clever. It showed a thoughtful intelligence behind every detail. I remember sitting in the YMCA, the day I bought it, marveling over this little device and how a such little mechanical device could be so beautiful. The little tick of the shutter when it took a picture was so precise that it felt emotionally like a kind of tiny angelic musical note.

1959 – I went into the United States Air Force pilot training school and suddenly it seemed I had lots of money so I bought an Exacta.

It was a fine camera and I had wanted one for years but being in flight school, which was very demanding of my total energies, I didn’t feel right about spending time taking pictures. The government was spending a lot of money on me and a lot of people were trying really hard to make me into a good pilot. So, although I now had better photographic equipment than I had ever dreamed I would ever own, I didn’t feel I had the time or energy to do much with it. It turned out that I was a natural pilot and did very well at that kind of activity but through no fault of mine I ended up in B-47s with H-bombs strapped to my ass. Believe me – things and people were worse than in the movie Dr. Strangelove. Partly they were worse because the people involved appeared marginally saner than the movie versions but they weren’t. And, they didn’t know it. I got out!

1962 – After a few adventures I was studying photography at San Francisco State College with Jack Welpot. The camera I liked at that time was the Calumet 4 x 5 which could be checked out for a couple of days at a time.

I liked the quality of the print images but to my eye they just didn’t compare to the 8 x 10 contact prints we saw at the Museums by Edward Weston or even the enlargements by Ansel Adams.

1966- I bought, where I got the money I don’t know, an 8 x 10 view camera from Burk and James.

I shot 8″ x 10″ color film with this camera traveling around California and Oregon one summer using some really old lenses which Welpot loaned me. Shooting at small apertures the quality of the lens isn’t so critical and the antique lenses didn’t hurt the quality of the photos so far as I could tell. Some of these pictures traveled around the world in a show called Art In Embassies. I never saw them again nor received a penny for the single prints I had of each exposure. At that time I didn’t have enough money to make more than one big color print. My friend Fred Padula got me a job at Lick Observatory doing a Sloan Sky Survey printing job. Mostly it was routine work, in fact it was all routine work, but I got to print photos from some world famous negatives taken with these cameras.

Here is a nice shot of the telescopes, on top of Mt. Hamilton and above the clouds. The telescopes are really long focal length cameras. I lived and worked in 1967-68 at Lick Observatory and my dorm room is dead center in this photograph.

One memorable print I got to work with was the star-shot of the Orion Nebula which was in the inside cover of the book The Family Of Man which circulated world wide and was very popular.

This is the Orion Nebula gotten from the web but this isn’t the same one which was used in the Family Of Man. In doing a Google images search it is amazing to see just how a single thing, unchanging on a human scale, can be viewed in so many different ways.

1964 – The Leica M-2 became my bosom buddy, literally; I carried it in my left breast pocket of my leather bomber jacket for several years. It had a 50mm Summicron lens which was always set at 13 feet and f-11 and the speed at 1/100. Then, long before taking the camera out, with my right hand inside of my jacket and my hand positioned on the camera I would anticipate behavior, compose the picture arranging all of the details, foreground relative to background, lighting variations, edges of the frame, and wait for the moment before the image was to become the meaningful photo-worthy content. Then I would quietly turn slightly away take the camera out low to my waist, remove the lens cap with my left hand and bring the camera to my eye and take the picture and put back down, put the lens cap back on and maybe return it to its pocket. This was practiced many times and I could do it smoothly and usually unnoticed by the people I photographed.

This was a wonderful camera! I later got an M3 but ultimately I think the M2 was a better camera for what I was doing because it was a bit more pocket-able. At the time lots of people smoked and it wasn’t so strange for people to be bringing things up to their face, from a pocket, for a few moments.

I had some shows about that time but it was a disaster for me, because although people liked what I was doing enough to steal my photos right off of the gallery walls I rarely got paid for them and never came close to covering my expenses. Of course I only had single prints so the loss was irreplaceable as I didn’t know what happened to them. Then, while I was living on a boat in the Berkeley Marina, some kids burned up the garage where my negatives were stored. This was the take away message: the world was destroying my photographs so do something else. Which I did for many years, and only recently, with the advent of digital cameras, have I gotten back into photography. Not in a serious way, and not to please the public, they can find their own pleasures. I am into whatever photography that I do for my personal satisfaction. That’s it! If I don’t enjoy doing it right now; I quit doing it – right now.

Presently, I have a Casio EX-Z1000 which I carry with me all the time. It isn’t as good as the M2 for taking live people pictures because it is slower to aim, compose and to trigger the shots and worst of all it is obvious when you hold the thing up and notify everyone for miles around that you are taking a picture and so everyone goes into some sort of weird behavior mode.

But, this is a great little camera because it does what you expect it to do. Changing between the various functions is easily accomplished and they work just the way you expect them to work. The Flickr Camera Finder shows popularity of the various cameras that are in current use here in the US. This doesn’t list the Casios in the top favorites list which means that they aren’t being marketed very well. I spent a lot of money on a Nikon two years ago and hated the damn thing it was so complicated to operate. It was always double-thinking me and doing something on its own which I didn’t tell it to do, and which didn’t want it to do. I will never buy a Nikon again! Some of the SLR cameras have some solid features but at the disadvantage of a much bigger camera and much higher price. You can take some kinds of pictures better with an 8 x 10 studio camera but who wants to lug it around all the time and the same goes for the SLRs.

The Casio has one of the biggest viewing screens of any digital camera, including all of the SLRs, which allows accurate composing of the shots, but the Casio doesn’t have a good UV filter on the viewing screen and so when any daylight is falling on the screen the image degrades more than it should. An easy fix is to make a hinged awning with an narrow piece of adhesive tape a hinging a credit card across the top of the screen. With 10.1 mega-pixels this Casio has one of the sharpest images of any current digital camera. Some of those salesmen will tell you that pixels don’t count for much and that the other features are valuable. Well of course other features are valuable but this camera generally has them too and generally better and it is so small you can carry it in a shirt pocket. I generally carry it in the slip case in a jacket pocket with my homemade finger loop protruding from the holster. Generally, I can draw and shoot in a couple of seconds, which isn’t near as fast as with the Leica M2 but it is much cheaper; so, I take lots more pictures.

There is a down side to really high resolution – when you have a really sharp picture the camera-motion becomes more apparent. That’s because you can make a much bigger print and therefore get up a lot closer to the final picture and the camera motion becomes easier to see. There was an old rule of thumb, the minimum shutter speed is the reciprocal of the lens length in millimeters but with automatic shutter speed you have press the shutter half way to check that the speed is okay when making the picture. My general advice is to hold the camera perfectly still until the image reappears on the viewing screen! The camera will carry a film speed of 200 with modest artifacts, 400 with noticeable artifacts and 3200 with gross artifacts. I would like the order of options to be re-arrangeable because I change the film speed a lot and would prefer it to be the first option available but instead I must scroll down to the speed menu. Another help for camera motion is to leave the camera set on wide angle, 35mm equivalent, as the default and only zoom out, to 105mm equivalent, when needed. That way you are more aware of the telephoto camera motion and are reminded to take appropriate action.

Digital Cameras are getting better and cheaper and including more features and in the case of Casio these features are easy to access and have obvious uses.

Pixels per dollar of digital cameras are getting cheaper logarithmically, it’s called Hendys Law (an obvious, but meaningful, knock-off on Moors Law). The current Casio is 12 mega-pixels but I haven’t used one of those yet. But, if Hendys is correct and the trend continues they should have a 15 mega-pixels camera soon and that much more resolution can’t be ignored.
