WHAT IS EXCELLENCE?

We would all agree that the iPhone 3GS has a pretty decent video editing app built-in. But now we have a great app that provides excellent features such as:

They sound wonderful and why shouldn’t they? Well, now we can argue that Apple should have this in the iPhone 3GS in the first place. But hey, that is what runs the App Store in the first place, so thumbs up to the maker of this app for making a unique app which is very useful. Speaking of uniqeness, we can notic that this is one of the very few apps which don’t have much competition since the others are related to images (e.g. Colorsplash).

Having used this over the week, I think it is extremely worth it if you love taking videos using your 3GS (especially when it is on sale!). So why are you waiting, you can grab it here (link to iTunes App Store)

Cheap mobile phones Nokia continues to impress customers with its technology Smart. And the latest hit is its Nokia E61i, the E61 is slimmer than the E61 by a small margin. The E61i has a better build quality on the E61 and possesses a solid and stable and has a user-friendly, five-way navigator.

The Nokia E61i has 2 mega-pixel camera. This cell phone also facilitates VoIP on its Wi-Fi, something the E61 does not dobox. QWERTY keys are round are also easier to press. Experienced Junior hockey fans recognize the strategy.

Successful junior hockey teams across the country have been using it for a while now.

Why? Because it works!!!

In leagues where players regularly come and go, entering the league at age 16 or 17 and graduating at 20 one of the keys to building a successful franchise and winning team is to maximize your assets.

How do you they do that?

They do that by setting up their team to take a run for the championship in a certain year.  Some call it a 3 year plan, sometimes it becomes a 4 or 5 year plan.

Here is how it works:

Step 1: Teams will choose the year they want to compete for the championship.

Step 2: They will try to acquire players that will mature in that year.

Step 3: If they are in the lower half of the standings before the trading deadline, they will trade away some of their star players to teams in the upper half of the standings in order to acquire top quality rookies that will mature in the year that they will make a run for it.

Step 4: In a year or two when they are competing for the championship they will add top players from the teams in the lower part of the standings in exchange for their future stars.

This is the strategy that we witnessed Jason Brooks and the Guelph Storm use when they traded away Thomas McCollum last year.

Veteran Dan Mohle now a Cyclone

And that is the strategy Guelph Hurricanes GM Matt Mullin used when he traded two of their top players in Forwards Ken Rolph (1989 birth year) and leading scorer Dan Mohle (also 1989 birth year) to the Listowel Cyclones for two rookie Forwards Blair Goss (1992 birth year), Jake Weidner (also 1992 birth year) and Future considerations.

According to Mullin, “Not only did we give Ken and Dan a chance to compete for the Sutherland Cup, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to add 2 quality kids that will set us up nicely for the next couple of years.”

Blair Goss played the last 2 years with the Fergus Devils (Jr. C), scoring 76 pts. in 79 games, but is a big power forward 6′0″ 205 lbs. He was Listowel’s first star, scoring 2 goals in his last game.

According to the Listowel Cyclones website, “Blair Goss lead the Cyclones scoring attack with two solid strikes and did his best to help his team win with timely scoring and an energetic effort. The Fergus native is just getting his game back on track after suffering a broken ankle in summer lacrosse action.”

Jake Weidner (6′2″ 175) played AAA Midget in Grey-Bruce and is described as an excellent face-off guy and penalty kill expert.

Here was the description of how he played in his last game as a Cyclone, “Rookie forward Jake Weidner who put in another solid game on the PK and in the face – off circle. Make no mistake hockey fans; this young forward will be a dandy player in this league for seasons to come.”

And the best part is that instead of watching two senior players graduate in the next few months, we will be able to watch these two players develop over the next few seasons.

 Now that is what I call maximizing your assets.

*Note: You can see the new players Thursday night (Dec. 3rd) when the Hurricanes host the league leading Brantford Golden Eagles at the Sleeman Centre. Game time 7:45 pm.

You won’t have to wait too long to see Dan Mohle and Ken Rolph as the Listowel Cyclones play the Hurricanes in a home and home series. Friday night in Listowel and Saturday Dec. 5th in Guelph. Game time at the Sleeman Centre is 7:30 pm and remember Saturday night is “Kids Get in Free Night”, where 4 kids can get in free with every paid Adult admission.

Being a huge fan of watercolor, you’ll realize how much of a dive I took when I saw Mathiole’s work, including his badass website [which can be viewed full screen. Even more badass.]

For me, I don’t usually expect something so simple like dripping watercolors on a page to make beautiful art, but here it is.

A lot of these pieces are completely and massively creative, and that’s what draws the viewer into the art. Mathiole’s done a ton of winner designs for Threadless, Emptees, Design by Humans, and Tattooed Steel.

My wonderful church, Northwest Community Church, is not your typical church. We have had a dance company at the church for a few years now, and we also have other great artists from around Orlando that are all helping and collaborating, and it ends up that we have freaking awesome productions that aren’t worth missing. This is free entertainment people.

I’m not going to lie to you, it is our goal that it will become something that speaks to you, rather than just entertainment, but you can rest assured you will at the very least have stimulated ears and eyes after it’s done.

This particular production has not only dance, but video and even La Nouba like things (silks and hoop things!) and it is done with excellence.

So please come out on one of the 3 days and see it for yourself. You won’t be missing out on anything, and I assure you, if you come on Friday, you will be wishing you had come on Sunday so you could go back on Friday night. It’s that good.

'PLEASE KILL ME! I can't take this dialogue anymore!'

‘Now what?’

This is what I thought when I heard that Stephen Sommers had directed a movie called Deep Rising and it didn’t have mummies, vampires, or toys in it.

This is also the catch-phrase, if it constitutes one, of the main character, played by Treat Williams. It encapsulates perfectly everything I feel about this film, as well as the frame of mind this was produced under.

Firsty, let me say it’s lazy writing. Catch-phrases are intrinsically lazy, designed to choke an extra laugh from a sitcom audience without any extra writing, but this one is lazy even by catch-phrase standards.

Consider some of the best catch-phrases:

Aye Caramba!

Hi-Diddily Ho!

Excellent!

Yes, these are all from The Simpsons.

Now consider some of the worst catchphrases:

“Now what?

See the difference? The former are uttered under certain conditions, and in emotion – surprise, eagerness, evilness, and annoyance respectively  – while the latter is something someone might just say at any time.

[Side-note: In The Simpsons episode where Bart becomes famous for the lame catch-phrase on Krusty "I didn't do it!', the mundaneness of the catch-phrase is part of the satire, as is pointed out on the commentary for that episode. End side-note.]

Not only is it a bad catch-phrase, it says something bad about the state of film in general and this film in particular. These two simple words show audiences’ propensity to boredom and their need and desire to see something new, big and stupid thrown at them every few minutes.

The complicity in this mentality (often grudgingly so in his case, I feel – he could have a serious film in him), has defined much of Stephen Sommer’s oeuvre. This film is no exception. He feels the need to directly vocalise this through one of his characters to keep the audience’s interest up, and remind them why they’re there. The fact that I didn’t even notice how often it was repeated the first time around shows how much stuff was being thrown at the screen.

Taken in this context, this catch-phrase mocks the previous section, indicating that it wasn’t enough to sustain the whole film. And so the film is constantly shifting in tone and the use of familiar tropes to continually re-engage the audience. (One whole sequence of them swimming through a flooded area was lifted straight from The Poseidon Adventure, although sea monsters have been added.)

The problem with this is that each successive film has to be more and more different things at once in order to top the previous one, and we end up with a big ridiculous mash-up of many older, superior films.

I'm looking at you, Van Helsing.

But it doesn’t need to be like that. Ghost Ship, essentially the same movie but with ghosts, managed to stay suspenseful all the way through without tipping its hand and devolving into all-out ridiculous action as Deep Rising

Deep Rising is a fun movie. It’s like a creature feature, done with a decent budget (watch out for dodgy CGI water though), and some good suspense scenes.

I’d put it below The Mummy, but high above The Mummy Returns.

As saints we are to approve things that are excellent, what this means is that we are to test those things that are better.  The way that we do this is by trying things that are different by comparing scripture with scripture.  We do this by rightly dividing the word of truth and by studying the things that differ.  This is the key to dispensational Bible study which is how we know what God is doing today in the dispensation of grace.  Part of dispensational Bible study is to know that everything is written for us but not the entire Bible is written to us.  The end of this verse tells us that we need to know God’s doctrine for us today so that we can be pure and without fault until the day of Christ.  So study the word rightly divided so that you can be presented perfect in Christ Jesus.

During the last year, I´ve been quite emotional. It´s hard to get trough the daily life. Sometimes you aim for certain things and you reach your goal, but then, you realize that that goal is reachable for a short instance, later goes further and further away from you.

Now I feel weird. I love what I´m doing, it´s not that. I just have so many feelings I don´t know what to do with them. They´re all bugging me at the same time.

It seems like everything is non-reachable right now. I know I´m doing parts of my dreams, yet, they´re so far away. The University is good for me, my program is excellent, it´s one of the best, but the uni itself has a very poor reputation. Something we tried to research before deciding to get here. This university doesn´t participate in yearly rankings. At first I thought it was good, because they don´t want to get involved in stuff, I thought, but now I know that´s it´s the opposite.

It´s getting harder and harder. Again, I love the career I chose and the education is very good, our teachers are teaches at Drama Schools. Everything with the homework, essay, assessments etc, is filling my time up.

Recently, I tried out to be in a 3rd year production and I got it. Since it got delayed, all my things got kind of on top of each other and I can´t put on more responsibility than the ones I already have. Today, I had to write to the director and tell her that I can´t be in her scene. It sucks, because I wanted it, but right now, I´m not strong enough to put on too many things upon what I already have. I need to get into my life and start it over, since I really haven´t done that yet with all the shifting´s in my life – changing countries, schools, chasing dreams etc.

Anyways, I know I´ll work it out. I have to build up a strength for next semester so I can deal with all these thing in a better way. What gives me strength now is that I´m going home to mami for Christmas, I really need her to hug me, give me a kiss and tuck me into bed. Miss you so mamita.

 After watching the Nyan Koi! anime(or what bit was aired already) I decided to take a look at the manga which I was hoping would be just as much fun, and luckily, I was correct.

SUMMARY

Junpei wakes up and finds the family Cat Nyamisus in his room, Junpei yells at the cat telling it to stay out of his room, and that he’s allergic to cats. Nyamisus walks out of the room, however as she walks out he tells Junpei that he is “an annoying the person”

Junpei later goes to the kitchen where his sister and mother are at, he sneezes while he’s at the table, and there Nyamisus is sitting there with them. Junpei gets ready to leave, and his sister and mother begin to cuddle and hug Nyamisus. As Junpei leaves Nyamisus gives him a ‘dirty’ look.

As he walks to school Junpei overhears two other stray cats talking, about going to the Butchers shop, he begins to wonder what exactly is going on with him.

At school Junei is talking to his friends, telling them that he can hear and understand exactly what cats are saying,which of course they don’t belive him(would you?) In order to solve Junpei’s problems his friends suggest that he talks to Mizuno, one of his friends goes right up to her and tries to talk about Junpei’s problem, but Junpei just quickly runs out of the classroom, and walks back in.

Walking back to his house, Junpei begins to remember the day all of the chaos started. He was kicking a can along the road, and suddenly he kicked it so hard that it went flying and knocked the head off a cat shrine statue.

After breaking the head off he ‘fixes’ the statue by placing the head back on. Bur as he walks by the shrine once again he tries to see if it has been ‘fuly’ fixed by attempting to pull the head off.

Yup, still broken…

Junpei begins to think that because the statue was broken by him that he might be cursed, however in order to satisfy the ’sprits’ he takes out a can of cat food and places it in front of the shrine as an offering. Nyamsus suddenly appears out of nowhere and begins to understand why Junpei can understand what she is saying, because he broke Jizo’s head. The chief priest arrives and finds Junko in front of the shrine along with the cat food he used as and offering. The priest finds the food at shrine and asks if it is an offering, Junko just says yes. The priest then asks if Junko he’s into the Jizo. The priest begins to explain that the Jizo has protected the land for years, and that it is very popular…but…

The Priest walks away, and after seeing Junpei give the Jizo the cat food, the man is sure that it will be very pleased with Junko. But before the priest walks off Junpei wants him tell him more about the Jizo. The old priest allows Junpei to come into his house in order to explain. In order to explain the Jizo to Junpei the priest takes out a large scroll and begins to read it all… another cat appears at the mans house and Junpei allergies increase 2x, the two cats begin to talk, and of course Junpei can hear every bit of it.

As the two cat talk the continue to insult Junpei and the priest who is getting into the reading of the scroll. Tama(the other cat) begins to explain the curse.

(too lazy to explain it all…)

Soooo he must perform good deeds for cats or else he’ll turn into a cat. Junpei despises cats so he immedately objects to thought of helping out cats. Junpei begins to turn into cat. But it’s nothing but a dream. Tama and Nyamusis arrive to Junpei’s house with some more cats, 3 more. His allergen increases by 4x . The cat has arrived because of a human who has been attacking them. Nyamusis say that he hits a plays around with them(in bad ways…), and they suffer from ‘ physiological damage’ or just ‘anime abuse’ like Junpei says.Nyamusis says the two cats that have come are the ‘lucky ones’. Junpei begins to think that if he helps the cats out, the curse will be lifted!!! So he “happily” helps the cats out.

Junpei and the cats find the human that has been messing with them.

But it turns out the person is Mizuno.

Confused Junpei walks away knowing she couldn’t be doing anything wrong. As he walks away the cats tell Junpei to yell at Mizuno and tell her to stop the “abuse”. Mizuno comes up to Junpei and is holding the cat as it yells “SAVE ME!!” However it turns out that Mizuno loves cats, and that her parent love dogs (and we all know how this goes…).

Junpei explains that the cats aren’t pleased with how Mizuno is treating or playing with them.

But Junpei is confused because Mizuno doesn’t mean any harm by what she is doing, however the cats surrounding him are coming in closer threatening Junpei(LOL). Junpei begins to tell Mizuno a second time, but the two cats(Tama and Naymusis) come in closer and rub against Junpei’s leg(?). Junpei tells Mizuno to Let go of the cat(forcefuly?) and she puts the cat down and runs off crying saying that she won’t do it again. Upset that he hurt his crushes feelings he runs off upset as well, and the problems of the cats are solved.

Junpei begins to wonder about Mizuno and how he hurt her feelings and she right then appears in front of him. They both say sorry to each other, and Mizuno asks if she can meet Junpei’s cat. He says yes(of course!), and he mentions that nothing has happened since that day and that his life is back to seeming normal.

Junpei thinks that because he helped out some cats that all of the cat related problems will be fixed.

WRONG!!!

Unfortunately for Junpei, in order to fix the curse, he must help out 99 more cats.

THOUGHTS

Wow, that wasn’t bad, not bad at all. And it was actually pretty funny as well. Junpei is such an unfortunate person, seems like he’s always stuck in some sort of trouble of delimah. I can’t wait to continue reading now. The manga is going to be released in the states June 10,2010 , and I’ll definitely be buying it.

It seems like the anime is pretty faithful to the manga as well. I’ve taken a look at the next few chapters of the manga, and I’m sort of surprised at the length of each chapter, there are about 34 pages a chapter, even all the way up to the 15th, it’s kind of wierd, especially for a comedy series. The manga is released monthly though, but it’s released online only, and the released into the manga volume format, which we in america will be getting. But I’m a bit worried about the company handling the manga, CMX Manga, the manga branch of DCcomics, which has Tenjou Tenge, I’ve seen some of CMX’s stuff in bookstores and the quality of the paper and maybe just about everything is terrible, why didn’t Yen Press or even DelRey get the manga? and I can really trust their translations and overall quality of printing, but whatever, I’m still buying it.

The main story of this series is, differnt…but not in a bad way, it’s sort of refreshing maybe? and like I mentioned, it’s pretty funny at times. The anime a really funny as well, especially episode 4 and 6. And the art is another plus side as well, I really like it, and the character designs are good as well.

But I’m definitely looking forward to reading the chapter with the twins, even though the anime supposedly follows their story very closely. And there are quite a few character left.

So, this was a very good chapter, if you love a good comedy manga/anime then you should definately give it a try, and you should try it especially if you’re a cat lover~. I may continue to write about this series, may even do chapter 2 soon! can’t wait to continue this manga,and the anime!

And I won’t be doing Negima this week since it seems to be mostly fighting anyways. However I may get to AneDoki.

I remember, as a child, watching VHS tapes of the original three Star Wars movies. I remember the magic, the wonder, and the depth that was present in that triple masterpiece. There’s no small wonder that the Star Wars saga has inspired more fanfiction, sold more merchandise, and produced more spinoff material than any other creative work in history.

It is due to the saga’s magic, then, that it is subject to such tortures today.

It began with the ‘earlier’ three Star Wars movies: The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith. These three seemed wrong to me in some way, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I simply shrugged, appreciated the wonderful CG effects, and resolved that it was due to seeing the first three movies at such a formative age that this uneasy knot twisted in my gut as I watched Anakin, the plucky hero, deliver trite lines and hit on a girl easily ten years his senior.

Then things got bad. The first taste I got was Star Wars: Battlefront. This video game was great, in terms of video games of its time. I remember many, many wonderful hours spent sniping my brother’s big droid head as he whined and punched me in the shoulder. Battlefront was a great video game, but I could taste a distinct change in the feel of the saga, if that was how you could say it.

The first three movies had been gritty, real things. The robots fell apart and made wisecracks, the heroes often depended upon the support of others and luck to succeed, and most importantly, they failed. This was replaced by a shining, clean, antiseptic Disney world perfectly suited to wide-eyed children with a sweet tooth for CG graphics and storylines as deep as a rain puddle.

The characters in the first three movies tried hard, they didn’t always cut it, and death was a very real part of the story. Obi-Wan dies because he cannot rejoin the group as they escape the Death Star, Luke loses his hand in a duel with Vader that ultimately reduces him to tears, and even Vader himself dies in the end of the movie after it is revealed that he is the hero. These movies were about lost causes, hope, struggle and redemption found for someone who seemed to be far beyond human feeling.

Contrast this with the most recent three, a whitewashed and generic action-smash-up trilogy that adopts only as much Star Wars as is necessary to keep the name. Death is even more common in these three than in the first movies, but it does so with such shocking blandness that they might as well be cardboard cutouts falling down. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul, Jango Fett, then (with a shockingly casual swish) Count Dooku, General Grievous, Mace Windu and all but a handful of the Jedi in the galaxy. Many of these characters are killed in the same movie in which they are introduced, and aside from those required by the first three’s plotline there are no thematic additions.

Anyone who still contends that George Lucas did not steal the first three movies has a staggering truckload of horrible screenwriting and ‘vision’ by Lucas to explain away, and things only get more difficult when you move into The Clone Wars.

An atrocious and hackneyed caricature of Star Wars, the science is almost completely nonexistent in favor of dramatic muscle-flexing and badassery. Even Yoda, once a wise and somber character, cannot be allowed to die a peaceful death. Instead he is resurrected as a calm-but-badass Jedi who plays games with diplomats and kills without hesitation. I have to wonder if he would ever refuse a double-dare.

In short, Star Wars is begging for death. Any geek with respect for plot, depth and screenplay will simply deny that anything after Return of the Jedi is canon.
