“I always loved traveling, discovering new places, meeting different people, feeling amazed in front of a beautiful scenery. Instead, I worked over 10 years in investment banking and then 8 years in a PR firm. As soon as I could, I flew away to catch another little piece of world,” she says.

Simonetta’s blog is brand new, but she’s off to a great start.

Her blog is very Italy-heavy. Lately, she’s been writing about ski resorts and current events in her home country, but she sometimes covers other ground like shark conservation, infrequently visited neighborhoods in Singapore and the best sunset in Indonesia.

“For me traveling means exploration, discovery, emotions which can come anytime and everywhere: from a city, a landscape, people, traditions, nature, art, culture,” she says.

“Although everyone has their own tastes and a personal travel fashion I feel that sharing travel experiences is part of the journey.”

Thunar is the default file manager for Xubuntu’s Xfce desktop environment, and is as stable in Ubuntu as the default app, Nautilus (especially since Xfce uses a lot from Gnome anyway). In many ways, you can’t tell the two programs apart, but for a time Thunar was way ahead of Gnome’s file manager. That’s not just because of advanced features like custom actions you could add, but because of the various views you could have. For example, for newbies tentatively moving away from Windows, the Tree view in the side pane is assuringly similar to Windows Explorer.

While Nautilus has certainly caught up, with being able to add to context menus via actions, and 6 different views for the side pane, Thunar is still worth installing because you can get the best of both worlds. You can leave Nautilus with the Places pane on the left and “Icon View” (thumbnails) on the right, and for when you want to browse via a Tree pane with “Compact List” icons (“List View” in Windows Explorer), you can open Thunar.

Also, unlike with Nautilus, you can still access the defined shortcuts (usually available via the left pane) while in Tree view by clicking a button at the end of the address bar. If you are thinking Thunar might be good to have as a backup in case Nautilus is having problems (which it is), but prefer it to look like Nautilus, then you can always change things back to how you like them (change the Tree pane to Shortcuts).

If you like this idea, but are thinking the icons in “Compact List” view are too small, you can always make them bigger (seen above), via the View menu, or zoom with your scroll wheel.

If you look at the pics, you’ll see some minor differences between the two file managers. Firstly, while Thunar uses the same icons for toolbar buttons that Nautilus does (they both get them from the current icon theme), Thunar’s are bigger (which I personally like). You’ll also note from the second pic that in your home folder (and elsewhere), hidden folders and files are listed first.

Other things worth mentioning are the differences between thumbnails and folder settings between the two, and that the Thunar context (right-click) menu will probably have less entries than you’re used to (though you should get “Open Terminal Here“ by default, while with Nautilus you have to install a package to get “Open in Terminal“).

Lastly, since the Information pane in Nautilus is rather useless right now when it comes to info, you can use Thunar to get more info at a glance than Nautilus can offer. For example, when you’re in your ~/Pictures folder and what to know the size in pixels of certain images, you generally need to right-click each file and view the info via Properties > Image. But with Thunar, all you have to do is click each file and look at the bottom to the info displayed on the status bar (which can be enabled via the View menu if it is missing).

So you could even do what I did: set up Thunar to display over-sized icons in “Icons” view, and then create a panel launcher to have your ~/Pictures folder open in Thunar (the command for such a launcher would be: thunar /home/yourusername/Pictures). That way, you don’t have to mess with icon size in Nautilus, but still get really large thumbnails of all your pictures, as well as info on dimensions presented in the status bar.

It’s been a random weekend… phone calls and drop ins from several people (not all of them wanted) on Friday night, an amazing wedding on Saturday night and a complete flip-off yesterday all served to show that nothing is ever what it seems (even though I did already know that – it’s just been very clearly rammed home again…)

Yesterday, and this morning on the train, I ran into two old (male) friends, who I haven’t seen since they were married (6 months ago for one, nearly a year for the other) and it has made me wonder yet again at the fragility of my “love” life…

However, I found this in The Age this morning, which suggests that your relationship building is determined by which personality you are, and that you need to find someone who connects with your personality trait in order to have a successful relationship, so perhaps hope is not lost.

I’m definitely an explorer, so now all I have to do is keep an eye out for other explorers!

Per chi come me ha a che fare con computer non nuovissimi avrà potuto notare che con il passare degli anni e dei mesi le risorse che occupa il flash player sono sempre maggiori.
Ero arrivato ad avere la cpu fissa al 100% con un solo advertiser della IBM (su punto informatico) .. per non parlare poi di pagine come gazzetta.it … impossibili da guardare.. i filmati di youtube..sempre più lenti…
Bene!  Invece di tenermi l’ultimo aggiornatissimo player (versione 10) .. ho fatto qualche passo indietro provando varie versioni e sono arrivato ad usare la versione 8  r42 che sembra stabile, molto poco esosa di risorse e ancora supportata dai vari youtube e siti con contenuti flash.

..niente volevo condividere con voi questo ‘piccolo’ successo..e magari tornerà utile a qualcun altro.

PADA AWALNYA…

Berawal dari kebosanan saat liburan kenaikan kelas, kita warga Simatupang berinisiatif untuk berdiskusi ria di forum yang kami buat di Facebook. Tujuannya satu, menemukan sebuah rencana besar untuk megisi sisa liburan agar lebih bermakna. Mengapa? Karena eh karena menurut curhatan para warga Simatupang, hari-hari liburan yang telah dijalani ngga ada gregetnya! Datar aja gitu…. Ngga ada kesan, hampir semuanya sama. Dimulai dari bangun tidur, makan, nonton Tv, online, makan lagi, tidur lagi dan seterusnya. Ngga banget kan? Nah berdasarkan hal itulah, kami memutuskan untuk melakukan sebuah explorer untuk yang kesekian kalinya. Dan tujuan kita kali ini adalah…. Cilacap Beach and Nusa Kambangan Island!

Rencana besar yang kami diskusikan di malam hari langsung kami realisasikan keesokan harinya. Berkumpul di sekolah sekitar pukul 08.00 WIB ditambah menit ngaretnya yang cukup lama. Dengan enam kendaraan bermotor kita melaju menuju Cilacap. Sebenernya, sembilan orang dari kita yaitu Uzenc, Ami, Icha, Iris, Dito, Yoga, Anggih, Elma, dan Fika ngga ada yang tahu pasti rute menuju Cilacap. Hanya ada satu juru kunci yang tau, Ieie namanya. Karena sang juru kunci sedang mudik ke kampung halamannya di Wangon, mau ngga mau kita musti mampir dulu ke Wangon njemput si Ieie. Akhirnya kita pilih jalur barat untuk ke Cilacap. Cukup jauh juga ternyata ya, perjalanan dari Purwokerto menuju Wangon. Cukup membuat badan kita pegel cekot-cekot encok. Padahal ini belum apa-apanya lho… karna sebenernya perjalanan masih panjang…. melewati jalanan yang berliku dengan hanya fokus memperhatikan jalan dan duduk di jok motor yang lama-lama ‘dekok’ karena terlalu lama diduduki.

DI PERJALANAN…

Di setiap lampu merah, kita curhat tentang kondisi kita masing-masing ke sahabat explorer yang lain. Dan curhatan paling banyak adalah mengenai panasnya pantat karna terlalu lama duduk ditambah lagi sengatan sinar matahari yang tak kalah panasanya. Tapi inilah yang menjadi sensasi sebuah perjalanan! Panas terik hujan badai kita lalui sampai ke tempat tujuan! Nyasar udah jadi hal yang wajar bagi kita pasukan konvoi nekatan. Selama masih ada manusia di pinggir jalan yang bisa kita tanyai, tau ngga tau jalan, kita tetep aja jalan… hehehe.

Setelah menempuh perjalanan yang cukup lama, akhirnya bau laut tercium juga. Seneng aja bawaannya. Akhirnya kita sampai juga! Yeah yeah yeah… Motor langsung kita parkirkan di bibir pantai. Agak ragu sebenernya, tapi Pak tukang parkir menjamin keamanan motor kita. Percaya deh sama Pak tukang parkirnya..

DI BIBIR PANTAI CILACAP…

Sejenak kita melihat pantai Cilacap, cukup mengecewakan sebenernya. Airnya keruh berwarna coklat kaya bekas kena longsoran, ngga ada indahnya! Ditambah lagi air lautnya lagi pasang. Cukup mengerikan untuk berlayar menuju Pulau Nusakambangan. Tapi, memang dasarnya bocah-bocah nekat plus ngga mau menyia-nyiakan kesempatanan, akhirnya kita nyewa kapal juga untuk berlayar menuju Nusakambangan Island yang katanya ada sesuatu di sana. Entah apa itu.

Dengan modal Rp 10.000,00 per anak, kita diantar ke Pulau Nuakambangan. Sensasi cipratan ombak yang asin menemani pelayaran kita menuju Pulau Nusakambangan. Jeritan yang menimbulkan tawa menambah hysteria kita semua. Dan taukah kalian para pembaca? Di suasana yang tidak stabil karena prahu yang digoyang ombak ini, kita masih sempat bernarsis ria lho. Ckckck, anak muda sekarang…  kalo ada kamera, di suasana apapun aksi foto-foto tetep jalan. Tak apa, mengabadikan momen memang perlu. Sapa tau ntar bisa jadi model gara-gara seneng foto. Hehehe

Histerisnya Ami

Karena dari tadi cekakak cekikikan mulu di perahu, ngga terasa ternyata kita udah sampe di pulau yang namanya Nusakambangan. Kesan pertama… . . FOTO DULU! Hahah. Dasar… x)

NUSAKAMABANGAN, HERE WE CAME…

Di pintu gerbang menuju pedalaman Nusa Kambangan, ternyata terdapat banyak warung lho.. si Uzenc yang dari pagi belum sarapan menyempatkan jajan sebungkus biscuit. Di bungkusnyanya si tulisannya bakal nambah energi kalo makan beberapa keping, tapi pada kenyataannya.. cuma nambah seret! Mana dianya ngga beli minum lagi… alhasil ngemis air ke sobat explorer yang lain deh. Hehehe nista. Gini nih, kalo explorer nekatan. Ngga nyiapin bekal tau-tau ditengah perjalanan main laper aja! Kelabakan ngga tuh! Sekedar saran nih.. kalo mau pada exploring, paling ngga bawa 5 bahan dan alat dasar kecuali uang! Apa aja hayo? Nih ada garam, sambal, kecap, korek, sama pisau lipat. Kita yakin, kalo kalian kreatif pasti ngga bakal kelaperan. Contohnya nih kalo kalian lagi di hutan, cari aja daun yang enak buat dicoel pake sambel. Tapi inget ya.. jangan yang beracun! Kalo kalian di deket danau, laut, atau daerah rawa, kalian diving aja nyari ikan, tapi ati-ati jangan sampe kelelep! Nah kan ada korek ada garam tuh.. maen bakar aja langsung! Perut kenyang hati riang. Ya.. pokoknya be creative dimanapun kalian berada lah ya..

Heathrow

Let’s start from the very beginning. After taking my eleventh grade report, I directly went to Jakarta to my parents’ house. Then with all of my luggages completely packed, I took my flight to go to Malaysia as my first transit. Continue to Hongkong as the last transit, then I finally arrived in Heathrow the -England Airport- after taking approximately 24 hours journey inside the airplane. The first time I arrived there, I went to an England native family’s house as I stayed on their house. They’re called Hostparents. If you have ever had similar experience, you must know from the “hostparent” term that the type of the trip I’m gonna shared to you is Homestay. Back to the line, I’d like to tell you that I was quite surprised to see my hostparent, his name is Steve Henry, he is crazily tall, he is about 190cm!!!! Can you imagine to stand side by side with a 6.23 foot tall man!

to the central park of London. There were soooo many people sunbathing all over the field. Do you know that this year,

England got the hottest summer ever; but people there believe the hotter sunlight the better for darken their skin?!? Are they nuts??  (just kidding )

Waxwork of Anna Maria Tussaud

After that, I went to Madame Tussauds, do you have any idea what kind of place it is?

Well, Madame Tussauds is a place that used to show all of the waxwork that was made by Anna Maria Tussaud –the most talented lady for waxwork art at her era-. That place is not only showing the art that Maria Tussaud made, but also the ones that was made by many people who is well gifted to make a waxwork. The waxwork is made in the form of famous people like supermodels, superstars or even superheroes.

It really was a pleasant trip ^^.

Irish Guard Band

On the other day, I went to Victoria Embankment. There, I could see the House of Parliament lively. It was really amazing, with all of the Irish Guard (the London soldiers that wear a red uniform and long wig) doing a parade. And I got interesting information while I was there, it’s about the Queen Elizabeth II; if you saw the flag on the top of the palace, it means that the Queen is inside the palace. So, if you see nothing than a huge palace without any flag, it means that the Queen is outside. Perhaps, the Queen was shopping when I was there . I’d also like to tell you that there is another amusing attraction around the palace which is located near the River Thames. It’s called London Eye, it is one of the biggest observation wheels in the world with 450 foot.From there, you can see almost the whole London scenery in many different perspective of viewing. It was fantastic!

I think, if I have  tell you about all of the experienced I got from the holiday I had in Europe, the post will not fit in one page , so I’ll give the other part of the story in another times. Hope the post is useful ^^

El lunes 9 de noviembre Firefox cumplió 5 años de aparecer en el mundo de los navegadores, desde aquel 9 de noviembre del 2004 firefox ha ido evolucionando pasando de ser un Firefox 1.0 pesado y sin muchas cualidades para diferenciarlo de Opera hasta ser hoy en día el segundo navegador mas utilizado en el mundo, gracias a su velocidad, facilidad y extensiones (Addons) que nos permiten hacer prácticamente cualquier cosa. De las manos de “Mozilla Organization” Firefox es el heredero de Netscape Navigator que en su tiempo fue el rey de los navegadores web hasta que microsoft logró quitarselo, pero últimamente esta renaciendo ese éxito con Firefox 3.5 y espero que sigan asi.

If it works as intended, it should spread out the impact forces and reduce the amount of bruising that occurs. This could prove a major benefit for children and elderly people, who are often more prone to injuries during car crashes.  The inflatable belts are only being developed for the rear seats; featuring smooth edges and more padding that a sheepskin seat cover, these belts should prove to be more comfortable to wear that traditional belts.  Expect them to be released in the next generation Ford Explorer first, with more vehicles to follow. Cuando estaba prendiendo mi Laptop veo en la Pagina Principal de MSN. Me encuentro con esto:

  Descargar el Nuevo Internet Explorer 8.

Y Nah, Decidí darle una oportunidad, lo descargué  y la gestión de complementos, junto con el manejo de descargas eran los dos principales fallos en las funcionalidades de Internet Explorer 7. Pues en IE8 se ha corregido en parte la primera carencia, agregándose un nuevo administrador de complementos que es un importante avance con respecto a lo que ya se tenía.  Algo así como tratar de Imitar al Firefox.

   Además el gestor de complementos de Firefox sigue siendo muy superior, permitiéndonos buscar y agregar add-ons sin abrir ninguna página, dándonos un control completo sobre ellos, tanto para cambiar sus opciones como para desactivarlos y desinstalarlos, y también incluyendo soporte para temas.

   De todas maneras, se nota que las extensiones y add-ons han sido prioridad en el desarrollo de Internet Explorer 8, ya que aparte de agregarse un gestor decente, también se ha introducido “Activities”, una tecnología exclusiva de IE que permite instalar complementos que potencien la función “Enviar a”, dándonos la posibilidad de acceder directamente a funciones como traductores, mapas o buscadores sin abrir una nueva página. Pero en cosas como está es donde se ven las ventajas de las aplicaciones open source.  ( Lo han liberado un poco )

En mi Opinión :

   IE8 consume más que WinXP
Un análisis de los recursos que necesita Internet Explorer 8 para correr indica que es un VERDADERO TRAGÓN de memoria. Dobla lo necesario en Firefox 3 y otros navegadores, pero es que además consume más memoria que Windows XP.

   No acaban ahí las sorpresas, ya que este estudio demostró que un sistema Windows XP instalado consume menos que este navegador. Nada más iniciarse todas las tareas que corren por defecto en Windows XP hacen que en un sistema con 1 Gbyte de memoria queden libres 800 Mbytes para el resto de aplicaciones que vayamos ejecutando. Sin embargo, al ejecutar IE8  de repente esa memoria disponible pasa a ser menos de la mitad de la que había. ¿Que raro no?

En Conclusión:

   A mi el internet Explorer, que nunca me ha gustado, además de muy aburrido y pesado. Sigo prefiriendo usar Firefox que dobla la Velocidad. Ya hemos de imaginar al IE8 cuanto consumirá de recursos, sobre todo RAM, con un Windows Vista e Reproductor de Audio, faltará que pidan unos 3GB de RAM como requisito mínimo.

Por eso sigue siendo el mejor Firefox. Tu sabes que eres mi Consentido, Firefox. .
