Author: Bob King If you’re tired of moderating readers’ comments on your blog, stop doin

Author: Bob King
If you’re tired of moderating readers’ comments on your blog, stop doing
that and let your readers decide which comment deserves to be shown.
If you’re getting outrageous comments on your blog, don’t get too
angry yet. Let’s see how many readers feel the same. You can
do these tasks (and more) with the Comment Rating plugin
Installation:

After download the plug in, you can upload and install it from
WordPress Dashboard -> Plugins -> Add New. Alternatively, you can
unpack and upload the dir with files to the wp-content/plugins folder on your blog.
Activate the plugin.
You can configure the options under Setting -> Comment Rating.
The default options should be good enough. It works out of box. You
are done. Sit back and have a look at your blog.
If you want to tailor the display format further, you can turn
off auto-insertion into comments and add the following line to an
appropriate place in your theme “comments.php” file within the comment loop.
if(functionexists(ckratingdisplaykarma)) { ckratingdisplay_karma(); }

More about custom installation in the Comment Rating plugin FAQ.

faq:

Why are the voting image in gray?

If the thumbs are grey, it’s most likely working well. Comment
author cannot vote on his/her own comments. That’s why the voting
images are grayed out and don’t respond to mouse-over. But if you
change to a different IP address, you’ll be able to see the
clickable images and mouse-over effects.

If all your computers go through the same ADSL/Cable router, they
all have the same external IP address. The thumb will stay gray,
until your IP address changes (e.g. rebooting the router).

To others, the thumbs should be in color.

Can I style the whole comment box of highly-rated/poorly-rated/hotly-debated comments

Yes. the comment styling uses the new commentclass filter
(introduced in WordPress 2.7). If your theme doesn’t use
WordPress 2.7 wplistcomments(), you’ll only see the comment
text background being styled or highlighted. To fix the problem, you
need to add commentclass into your existing theme. For example
code, please see here.

My nested comment box highlighting is messed up!

When using nested comments, the styling of a highly or poorly-rated
comment is passed on to every comment below it. This means that
every comment nested below a low-rated comment becomes semi-opaque,
even if it is high-rated itself. The end result is huge blocks of
dim text that are difficult to read.

Also highly-rated comments pass on that style to everything below
it, resulting in huge blocks of styled text that obscure the rating
of comments that are not really highly rated.

The problem is caused by styling the whole comment box. To solve the problem, just turn off comment box styling.

How do I set the thresholds of highly-rated/poorly-rated/hotly-debated comments?

This is the tricky part. Setting the thresholds too low, every comment becomes highlighted or hidden. Setting them too high, nothing changes and you cannot draw readers attention.

Every blog’s readers are different. Some have passionate and
active readers who vote on almost every comment. Some have
indifferent readers who don’t want to click.

There’s no magic formula. You’ll have to experiment. Hopefully, it’s fun to play with the numbers.

Can a comment be both highly-rated, and poorly-rated or hotly-debated?

Yes, if you’re not careful with your thresholds. Won’t there be messy formatting? No, there won’t be. Rest assured. Comment Rating will use only one style based on the following descending priorities: highly-rated, poorly-rated, hotly-debated.

Can I style the whole comment box of highly-rated/poorly-rated/hotly-debated comments

Yes. the comment styling uses the new commentclass filter
(introduced in WordPress 2.7). If your theme doesn’t use
But maybe you are using this field as a “nickname” field…
Use this plugin to replace the members names by their real names
Installation:
WordPress 2.8.5 and above

Install the plugin into the plugin directory, and activate it site-wide
Create three news fields that will be used by the plugins (ex. “Member name”, “Member firstname”,”Member bothnames”). I suggest “Member name” to be a required field.
Fill the values of those fields for your profile (the datas for at least one user are needed to setup the plugin options)
Setup the Real Names plugin options in the admin menu, under the BuddyPress panel.

faq:
“I don’t see the field names in the plugin options”
It is because you need to have at least one user having filled those fields before setting options.

The 20th of June 2009 was the day when changelogs found their way into readme.txt files of plugins in the WordPress plugin repository. Thanks to Peter Westwood und Mdawaffe a new version of the readme.txt example file was available online that had an example of the changelog in action
Installation:

Download the plugin and unzip it.
Upload the folder changelogger/ to your /wp-content/plugins/ folder.
Activate the plugin from your WordPress admin panel.
Installation finished.

Author: Aaron D. Campbell There is a problem with related posts plugins, and Efficient Related Posts

Author: Aaron D. Campbell
There is a problem
with related posts plugins, and Efficient Related Posts is fixing that by
approaching the problem from a different direction and offering a very different
solution
Installation:

Verify that you have PHP5, which is required for this plugin.
Upload the whole efficient-related-posts directory to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
Configure related posts by going to Settings -> Related Posts

faq:
How can I add a list of related posts to my posts?

You can configure Efficient Related Posts to add related posts automatically in
Settings -> Related Posts. Alternatively you can use the shortcode
[relatedPosts] or the helper functions wpgetrelatedposts() and
wprelated_posts() in your theme files.

How exactly do you use the [[relatedPosts]] shortcode?

To use the default settings (from Settings -> Related Posts) you just need to
add [relatedPosts] to your post or page where you want to list to be. You can
also add some attributes to it such as numtodisplay (Number of related posts
to display), norptext (Text to display if there are no related posts), and
title (Title for related posts list, empty for none) like this:

[relatedPosts title="Most Related Post" num_to_display="1"]
[relatedPosts num_to_display="1" no_rp_text="No Related Posts Found"]
[relatedPosts title="Try these related posts:" num_to_display="3" no_rp_text="No Related Posts Found"]

How do the theme helper functions work?

You can use wp_get_related_posts() and wp_related_posts() to display a list
of related posts in your theme. They need to be used in “the loop” and the only
difference is that wp_get_related_posts() returns the list and
wprelatedposts() echos the list. You can also pass an associative array of
arguments to it such as numtodisplay (Number of related posts to display),
norptext (Text to display if there are no related posts), and title (Title for
related posts list, empty for none) like this:

wp_related_posts(array(‘title’=>’Most Related Post’, ‘num_to_display’=>1))
echo wp_get_related_posts(array(‘num_to_display’=>1, ‘no_rp_text’=>’No Related Posts Found’))
wp_related_posts(array(‘title’=>’Most Related Post’, ‘num_to_display’=>3, ‘no_rp_text’=>’No Related Posts Found’))

If it calculates related posts when a post is saved, won’t a post only be related to older posts?

No, Efficient Related Posts finds all the posts related to the one being saved,
and if the current post is more closely related to one of those posts than the
least related post that is currently stored, it re-processes that post. Simple
right? Well, maybe it’s not so simple, but rest assured that your posts can and
will show the posts they are most related to regardless of post date.

What metrics are used?

Posts are considered related based on tags. This may be extended in the future,
but I wanted to keep the queries as clean as possible.

This plugin is required by other plugins I have developed. Take a look at the readme.txt in the /doc/ directory to know what can minimax do
Installation:

Decompress minimax.zip and upload /minimax/ to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory.
Activate the plugin through the Plugins menu in WordPress

faq:
Why minimax?

Because it’s a minimal ajax library.

How do yo dare to create another Ajax library?

Yes, I know there are many Ajax libraries available, but they are too complex and I need just the basic part. Also add those libraries in each plugin would be a redundanct code situation.

But, you know, there is an Ajax library in WP!

Yes, there is an Ajax library in WP, but I need an extra element it hasn’t, and hacking the WP Ajax library wasn’t an user friendly situation in order to make a plugin easy to install by common users. A common user wants to install, not to hack.

Can I use minimax with my plugins?

Yes you can. Take a look at the readme file in /doc/ directory, and see the example. Remember this is an Ajax library, so it has the same limits other Ajax libraries do have.

This plugin fetches RSS or ATOM feeds from the url you provide and displays them on your blog. It can be used to manage “hot links” sections or anything else you can grab via an RSS or ATOM feed
Installation:
INSTALLATION:

1.) Place the plugin (feedlist.php) in your wp-content/plugins/feedlist directory. (create the feedlist directory if necessary)

2.) Edit feedlist.php and fill out the values in the CONFIGURATION section.

3.) Enable the feedList plugin in the “Plugins” section of your WordPress administration panel.

4.) OPTIONAL BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED – Replace the class-snoopy.php file in your wp-includes directory with the one provided in this distribution. The standard class-snoopy.php is broken
when trying to load pages that are compressed by their server (gzip compression). This file fixes that problem.

UPGRADING:

1.) jot down your configuration information in feedList.php

2.) Overwrite your feedlist.php file

3.) Update your feedlist configuration information with that data you wrote down in step 1

4.) enjoy

Old faces: People whom have interviewed me and those whom I know from graduate schools. One of them converted from teaching to extension expressing discontent about decreasing discipline and attitude among students.

This maybe what it looks like.

Dr. Joan Koonce writing a book, Intergrity. One thing that I remember ab0ut her is that she has a picture [pic] of her old beat-up wooden house in her office, reminding us of our herd upbringing.

Financial literacy issues in the military is a huge issue. According to a personnel whom I talked to, this is partially related to deployment period.

Presentations at luncheon …. make them interesting. Less talk, more entertaining presentation.

Money management personality: There were two methods presented, Money Habitudes [habit + attitudes ?] and . From the one that I took, the result point to a tyrant money management style.

As I have long expected, overshopping is a huge problem. With her psychological approach, Dr. April Lane Benson shared her reasons on why this issue is larger than being addicted to alcoholic drinks.

Some free, complementary items are good and others are just plain bad. The coolest: Flashdrive bracelet from the award-winning Financial Security for All eXtension subgroup.

It’s just amazing how people are trying to sell you a very focussed product. In this conference, there was a product that merely focus on improving credit scores or getting your credit score to 850 [I was going to link it to its website, as shared on its product catalog, but its name is not even on google search list]. A healthier money mangament habit promotes improved credit score, which may be obtained through the Money Coaching Institute.

The big extension programs tend to be in te health and food areas. So, an option is to include a short segment of personal finance in bug funded programs or market our program as a these big-funded programs such as the Smart Choice$ program.
