hey stalkers – welcome back, you know who you are!

the past day has been full of surprises. i now call my glasses shock-and-awe because, gosh, i was shocked to know i actually need them but awe at the world that i now see. i know many will say that my eyesight is not so bad and that they wouldn’t have gotten glasses but those people i only tell one thing: shut up! i can now read signs that without glasses are not legible at all, i can peek into my neighbors windows where i previously thought their glasses are just dirty hence the missing see-throughness, and i can see into the distance without suspecting fog everywhere.

i know, i’m totally weird. but this is how i explained why i can’t focus on things in the distance. it must be foggy, it must be dirty windows, it must be some weird reflection in the atmosphere…

i can see clearly now : -) (did anyone understand this at all?? i was trying to be funny)

no life-saving actions for the remainder of this week. but my irish teacher decided on the songs we will dance to for a show in january. one is a well known song from lord of the dance, the other one is a rock song from an irish band. really fun and unexpected for anyone who hears that we will do irish dance . we are going to rock that place!

i’ll spend my weekend with a friend from WI. she is a little bit exhausting but i think i’ll manage nontheless. i’ll just try to stay calm, and calm, and calm. and if worse comes to worse, i’ll drown myself in alcohol at the christmas market i kid you not, it is that difficult for me with her sometimes.

enjoy your weekend!

gosh, my life is rather exciting these days. after having my hair dryer go up in smokes and my bag being glued to the floor AND finding out i need glasses (and how expensive these things can get), i walked into work yesterday thinking it can’t get much worse.

wrong.

there was a bloody accident and for some reason the ones who are the designated first responders at work did not quite function how i think a first responder should act. you know, saying things like “wow, that’s a lot of blood”, and “you look like you got stabbed” surely does not help the situation. good grief. i ended up taking care of one of the injured, a colleague watched the other one, clearly afraid of the blood.

i mean it was not a butcher-like situation. it’s the usual, it looks worse than it actually is. but what was the most annoying is the bystanders who didn’t do stuff. they did not offer to help, yet they also did not just disappear into their offices. gosh, sometimes people are a pain.

the whole situation got my adrenalin flowing. for hours afterwards, i was still hyped. and despite wanting to go to bed early i couldn’t sleep. the whole scene just kept rolling and rolling in my head.

i decided to volunteer for first responder at work. this is not a situation i want anyone to be in again. anyone with cut wounds or whatever pain needs someone acting fast, calm, and someone who knows what they are doing.

if you would be at a loss, go take a first aid/cpr class! it’s worth your time, trust me.

today was rather calm compared to this excitement. i’m waiting for my glasses to be done so i can pick them up and look all snazzy

i really can’t see. went to get my eyes checked yesterday and it was another revelation. time to get glasses.

and the idea of wearing glasses makes me feel like i’m getting old. really old. i know you all who got glasses when they were little can’t really understand this but to me, with my once healthy eyes, glasses are for old people whose body has given up on them. and now it is MY body giving up on ME.

add to that my constantly sore muscles from dancing, my hopeless hair, and the feeling of me shrinking and maybe you will understand why this notion of me needing glasses is feeling like a step towards the eternal hunting grounds.

tomorrow i’ll meet with a friend to look for models. i tried on a few and wasn’t overly convinced. partially because the lady kept telling me to stay away from the models i liked and instead handed me the low-key makes. mh…i guess she was trying to tell me something there and granted, i looked a little geenie yesterday, but still. if i spend the money the glasses will cost then i want “something” if you know what i mean.

so many choices to make!

i had a revelation today, thanks to my friends with the bad eyesight. for weeks i felt like my eyesight has gotten worse and that maybe it’s time to get glasses. i’m the last one in my family not to have glasses so i was reluctant to get my eyes checked. if they worked for so many years, why don’t they work now?!

then today, i got to try my friends glasses and well, there goes said revelation. i was able to see details that i couldn’t without the glasses. it actually felt like i has looking through a magnifying lens somehow. it was all so visible. and without the glasses i could only guess.

so i’ll get my eyes checked this weekend, i think. no, not think, i know i’ll get them checked. period. don’t want them to get any worse.

i was so happy to be among the “no contacts and no glasses” part of the population. not my folks anymore, i guess.

There are nearly 75 million people who have diabetes or pre-diabetes who are having problems managin

There are nearly 75 million people who have diabetes or pre-diabetes who are having problems managing their health in relationship with diabetes, especially Type II. You may be one of them or know someone who is.

If you don’t treat yourself with respect and love yourself, you will not be able to help others in your life. Just as the airline attendant tells you to put the oxygen mask on yourself first so you will then be able to help others around you, when it comes to your health, you must take care of yourself first.

Following are some of the Diabetes or Diabetic warning signs that may mean you should be checked by a physician.
1. Excess fat around the waist and buttocks

2. Dieting that doesn’t seem to work long-term no matter how hard you try.

3. Lack of energy, especially in the afternoon or right after large meals

4. You feel like you want to take a nap at all hours of the day

5. Lack of concentration or mental fatigue during the day

6. Health problems including high blood sugar, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure

7. A constant feeling of thirst – dry lips & mouth

8. Extremely itchy, dry skin

9. Problems with eyesight – things start to look blurry or unclear

10. Wounds do not heal quickly

Having one or two of these symptoms may not mean that you are diabetic or even pre-diabetic or that you have insulin resistance. However, if you notice a pattern with several of these areas, you may want to make an appointment to visit your doctor.

A simple blood test called the A1c will determine if you are at risk for diabetes (or adult onset diabetes).

If you are diagnosed as a diabetic, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are doomed to having a life filled with other health risks. In future posts we’ll talk about ways to manage your lifestyle and keep you from a lifetime of insulin shots or even medications.

When you accept and understand where you are regarding diabetes or pre-diabetes you will then better understand what steps you will need and want to take to eliminate the signs of diabetes. Yes, diabetes can be reversed and you can do it, however it does take a firm commitment to make some changes that may be contrary to what you are used to doing. The result will be a healthier lifestyle that will not only protect you against diabetes pre-diabetes, but also other health conditions.

Remember that you can now do a lot to help yourself in the diabetes fight. One way is to have a health coach to help you stay on track. .

One old man was sitting with his 25 years old son in the train. Train is about to leave the station.
All passengers are settling down their seat. As train started young man was filled with lot of joy and curiosity. He was sitting on the window side.

He took out one hand, feeling the passing air. He shouted, “Papa see all trees are going behind”.
Old man smiled and admired son’s feelings. Beside the young man a couple was sitting and listening to all the conversation between father and son. They were little awkward with the attitude of 25 years old man behaving like a small child.

Suddenly young man again shouted, “Papa see the pond and animals. Clouds are moving with train”.

The couple was watching the young man embarrassingly. Now it starts raining and some of the water drops touch the young man’s hand. He was filled with joy and he closed his eyes. He shouted again, “Papa it’s raining, water is touching me, see papa”.

Couple couldn’t help themselves and asked the old man. “Why don’t you visit the Doctor and get treatment for your son.”

Old man said,”Yes, we are coming from the hospital as today my son got his eye sight for the first time in his life”.

Moral: “Don’t draw conclusions until you know all the facts.”

Many eye disorders are treatable if diagnosed early on, “but because they’re virtually p

Many eye disorders are treatable if diagnosed early on, “but because they’re virtually painless, people often ignore their symptoms instead of making an appointment with an eye doctor,” says John Branch, MD, an ophthalmologist at the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center in Greenville, S.C., and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

The most common causes of blindness are glaucoma, cataracts and retinal detachment, in which the retina, the thin tissue that lines the back of the eye and sends visual messages to the brain, comes loose from its normal position. Although retinal detachments can be caused by sudden trauma (like a baseball to the eye) or complication from eye surgery such as LASIK, they can also begin with small rips in the retina that are left untreated, Branch says.

Here are the warning signs your own eyesight may be in danger:

Floaters: Two-thirds of the eye is filled with vitreous, a jelly-like substance which begins to contract with age. “Occasional spots, threads or webs ‘floating’ across your field of vision are actually condensed strands of vitreous causing shadows on the retinal surface,” says Branch. A sudden onset of floaters, particularly dark splotches, may signal the start of a retinal tear.

Flashers: Flashing lights, like tiny lightning bolts or strobes, in your peripheral vision indicate the vitreous is tugging on the retina and may cause it to come loose from its normal position.

Shadow Effect: A sense of a shadow, or gray curtain, rising or dropping over your field of vision could be a sign the retina is peeling away from the back of the eye.

Very near-sighted people have a higher risk of developing eye disease, particularly retinal tears, says Branch. “Because their eyes are longer than someone with ‘normal’ vision, the retina is stretched, making it easier to become detached.”

To safeguard your vision, maintain a healthy diet that includes plenty of dark, leafy greens like spinach, kale and collard greens. “All are rich in vitamins and antioxidants which protect eye health,” says Branch. On sunny days, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. And most importantly, don’t put off a regular eye exam.

“The sooner you get any of these symptoms evaluated by an eye doctor,” Branch says, “the sooner you can get them fixed.”

If you want to be filled in more about Astaxanthin you could check out my earlier blogs on it.. This a review on mostly Zeaxanthin. See thing is Astaxanthin is actually much stronger than zeaxanthin… but, zeaxanthin tends to have better absorbsion in the eyes, skin and optic / auditory nerves making it much more effective in those areas..

If your eyesight is one of your priorities then consider zeaxanthin.. Perhaps through the many foods such as spinach, kale, eggs, turnip greens, collard greens, romaine lettuce, broccoli, zucchini, corn, garden peas and Brussels sprouts.. Although the problem lies in moderation..Its hard to say you’d get what you need from the food alone unless you have a prepared diet and stuck with it..

That’s often where the supplements come in.. I’ve tried Noagin, and can say it works well. Its a mix between Zeaxanthin, Astaxanthin, and Lutein. A concentrated formula for maintaining a healthy body, wrinkles, eyesight, memory, prevention of cancer, aswell as others. I’ve gone more into depth on a previous blog. They really are super antioxidants.

For any extra information check out this Video.

As caring individuals, we do our very best to ensure the people we love around us are safe and healthy. Unfortunately, in developing countries, this is a much more difficult task.

ORBIS International, a non-profit, global development organization is on a mission to eliminate avoidable blindness in developing countries. ORBIS envisions a world where no one is needlessly blind, where quality eye care, education and treatment are available to every human being.

Now it’s time for us all to get involved, as TODAY, October 8th is World Sight Day! You can help by setting aside one day during the Month of October to inform your friends, family, and fellow Blog readers about this initiative.

Did you know that an estimated 45 million children and adults are blind worldwide… and every year between 1 and 2 million more will lose their sight. What makes these facts even more upsetting is that 75 percent of cases could have been prevented, or their eyesight restored, if only people had access to proper eye care. Unless steps are taken now, it is estimated that by the year 2020 blindness will affect more than 76 million people! There is hope though. ORBIS, with support from Alcon, carries out programs onboard its Flying Eye Hospital and at hospitals in developing countries to help the blind see. While they are in these countries, ORBIS also trains local doctors and nurses in the latest sight-saving techniques so that they may gain the tools and knowledge needed to carry on the work that is done.

This year, ORBIS International will be giving everyone an xclusive inside look to see the great work that goes on first hand! These inside accounts are called “Eye Reports,” and will be added to the website weekly to include inspiring moments from the field.

Want to check out the latest news and updates? Simply visit: http://www.orbis-eyereports.org and be sure to check ORBIS out on Facebook!

Are carrots good for eye sight because they have vitamins and stuff in them?

… or is it because they are bright orange and easy to see?

In the 5’th century BC, the Greek philosopher Empedocles caused a sensation by explaining how eye si

In the 5’th century BC, the Greek philosopher Empedocles caused a sensation by explaining how eye sight worked.

The eyes, said Empedocles, were like a lantern. Within each eye blazed a special kind of fire – the fire of the goddess Aphrodite. Her magical flames burned without causing injury, casting forth an ‘inner light’ that emanated outwards from the eye until hitting something… and whatever the light hit, you instantly saw. The inner light projected by your ocular lantern reached around you like sensory tentacles. Sight was the consequence of your light touching whatever you looked at.

Empedocles’ theory resonated with many of his fellow Greeks, who had probably noticed that in order to see something, they had to look at it with their eyes open. It was plain that their eyes were filled with flame, for who had not seen an eye flash, or glint, or shine from within like a beacon?

Not everyone was convinced. If your eye was a lantern, then if you looked hard enough with a truly fiery gaze, surely you should be able to see in the dark! Which, try as they might, no one could do. And if the eye emitted light, how was it that you saw both what was near and what was far simultaneously? How was it that the light of Aphrodite’s fire took the same amount of time to travel distances both short and long?

Empedocles and his followers were unperturbed by these minor empirical details. Greek philosophers of the time perceived reality as but an imperfect manifestation of their carefully constructed models – an implementation detail. If reality did not quite work like the model claimed, then reality must (probably) be broken. The philosophers were typically so confident of their logic that most never bothered verifying anything experimentally – who cared if the data fit the model, as long as the model was pretty?

Plato, who was born not long after Empedocles died, refined his theory to address the concerns raised by its detractors. The reason you could not see in a dark room, he explained, was because you needed more than the inner light of your eye lantern to do so. You also had to open the window and let in some external light. External light was made by light sources such as lamps and the sun and was different, but kindred to internal light. In the Timaeus, Plato wrote that eyes emanated a “a substance akin to the light of every-day life” that flowed “in a stream smooth and dense”. By itself, this “stream of vision” was inert, but the catalytic light of an “external and kindred fire” transformed it. It could then “diffuse the motions” of whatever it touched, “causing that perception which we call sight”.

Plato used his optical model to explain how you saw your face in a mirror. You saw your face because of the interplay between the internal light from your eye, some external light, and a third kind of light being given off spontaneously by your face! Sight happened when your vision stream ran into the light being given off by the objects you were looking at. Your vision stream smacked into the light coming off your face precisely on the surface of the mirror. And on that surface, you saw your ugly mug.

Plato’s model of vision had most of his students and fellow Greeks nodding in agreement. Except his best student, Aristotle, who thought it such bunk that he ridiculed it for posterity in his book On Sense and the Sensible. Aristotle was convinced that the tired old philosophers of the past had it figured backwards. What looked like fire in the eyes was only reflection and optical illusion. The claim that sight should happen at the point of contact between the many sorts of light – was labored and “irrational”! The simpler and more logical explanation was that sight happened within the eye!

Aristotle theorized that objects somehow managed to perturb the medium (air) that lay in between them and the observer. These perturbations spanned the medium instantaneously, entered the eye and triggered sight. The reason you had to have your eyes open to see was not to let your inner light get out, but to let the perturbations and changes in the medium get in! And color was just variations in perturbation. Different colors generated differing changes in the medium, each of which triggered a unique sensation in the eye.

Aristotle argued his case as only he could – with logical derivation from observation accompanied by the absence of concrete experimental data. But he made no long term headway against the Platonic model, perhaps because unlike Plato, he offered no conjecture on how mirrors worked. For most Greeks, eyes continued to behave like lanterns.

In the 4th Century BC, the Atomist philosopher Epicurus offered a radical alternative, derived from the work of the Atomist pioneer Democritus. Epicurus believed you saw because of what came off the objects you looked at. All sensations, said Epicurus, were the consequence of contact. Vision was the sensation caused by contact with images. And images were immeasurably thin atomic replicas or outlines of objects that the objects perpetually gave off – like a constant shedding of skin. The images or eidola floated away from the objects into the void until they drifted into your eyes, and thence into your mind, where they produced the sensation of sight.

The implications of a universe seething with eidola were immense. For one, it meant that you did not actually have to look at something to see it – all you had to do is run into its eidola. And eidola also implied that you could potentially see in the dark. Most interestingly of all, eidola could give you a permanent feeling of déjà-vu and genuine hind-sight, since technically, any eidola that was not sensed by an eye just lived on. Critics wondered how the eidola, despite being atomic replicas of their sources and hence of the same size, squeezed through the small aperture of pupil into the insides of the eye! It is not known how deeply Epicurus thought about the miraculous implications of his model (or the logic defying ones) – but clearly, the Epicureans were none too concerned, as they adopted the theory enthusiastically.

Euclid gave Plato’s ideas a mathematical foundation by applying geometry – a subject he knew a thing or two about. In his treatises Optics and Catoptrics, Euclid used the concept of the ray to explain sight, reflection and perspective. There were two kinds of rays – sight rays and light rays. Rays travelled in straight lines and with infinite speed, arriving at their destinations, whether near or far, instantaneously. Why the rays did any of this, or if they did any of this at all, Euclid did not state – probably because he had no idea. Euclid’s sight rays (internal light) shot out of the eye lantern in an expanding cone. Sight rays mixed with light rays (external light) and produced sight by colliding with the light rays emitted by individual objects. Mirrors operated by reflecting sight rays. Euclid’s ray geometry supplied the first understanding of perspective.

And so it went, until by the 1st Century CE, Ptolemy had extended and adapted the Euclidean principles to explain refraction and other optical mysteries. The Euclidean/Ptolemaic theory effectively ended the debate over the mechanics of sight – at least in the Greek and Roman world, for there is evidence that thinkers in ancient India and elsewhere may have developed to a more modern theory of vision. But in much of the world, the lantern of the human eye shone brightly for a thousand more years.

It was not until the 11’th century CE that an Arab genius from an intellectual hotbed called Basra (yes, the same one, and it had already existed for 1300 years before Saddam was even born) finally saw the world with a fresh set of eyes – a distinctly familiar and modern set of eyes. And by the time the great Alhazen was done looking, he had invented the scientific method and penned one of the greatest scientific works of all time: The Book of Optics. Alhazen produced a methodical and experimentally sound theory of sight, of reflection, refraction, of lenses, mirrors, ocular structure, pin-hole cameras, and a whole host of other optical subjects that nobody had ever thought correctly about. Alhazen offered not conjecture, but theories backed by experimental verification! Alhazen was the first recorded individual to scientifically prove that sight was the consequence of rays of light, reflecting off objects and entering the eye to form an image!

The science of Alhazen and the giants who followed – Newton, Huygens, Maxwell – should have extinguished the fires of Aphrodite for good. But they failed. In 2002, a study published in the American Psychologist journal showed that nearly 50% of college students continue to believe that the eye gives off the light that produces vision! Empedocles’ lantern of the eye and the flames of Aphrodite still light the visible world.

It pains me to see how hard people work to achieve certain goals and often times, no where on the list is your well being. It seems to be not important. WHY? I ask that but it really doesn’t even matter what the answer is because lets just begin TODAY changing the way we feel about our temples. Honor yourself. Love yourself. You’ll be amazed how everything around you will begin to conform and suddenly become loving as well. Change your vibration and raise it higher.

I found this article on foods that have healing power. In fact, ALL things that come naturally from the earth such as fruits, veggies, herbs, have healing powers which is why your diet should consist if not entirely but mostly of natural products.

All change you desire begins with you. In order to get your mind right you have to change what you put into your temple. Begin today with a new you.

Most people know that we need adequate amounts of oxygen, water, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, and good carbs for great health. But you may not know much about a group of micronutrients, also called phytonutrients, that can help prevent disease and restore health and vitality. Phytonutrient-rich foods are essential to vibrant health and wellbeing, yet they are almost completely ignored by many diet plans. There are about 2,000 known phytonutrients; many others are being discovered all the time. And, you guessed it, they’re found in fruit, vegetables, herbs, spices, nuts, sprouts and seeds. A single fruit or vegetable may contain more than 100 different types of healing phytonutrients that basically make up the immune system of the plant. Once eaten, phytonutrients impart their incredible healing abilities inside your body. The thousands of phytonutrients are categorized into families, including carotenoids, catechins, flavonoids, lipoic acid, phytoestrogens, polyphenols, sulfurophane, and others. Let’s explore the phytonutrient families and find out how you can include more of them in your diet.

Anthocyanins

These natural, health-boosting substances give certain fruits their purple to reddish color. Not only does research show that anthocy anins have the capacity to boost short-term memory by 100 percent in just eight weeks, they also stimulate the burning of stored fat in the body to be used as fuel. Up your intake: Anthocyanins are found in dark purple or red grapes, cherries, and berries, including blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and strawberries.

Carotenoids

Not only do cartenoids help strengthen your eyesight and boost your immunity to disease, they are powerful antioxidants that, in some studies, reduced the risk of cancer and protected against the effects of aging. Up your intake: Carotenoids are the yellow, orange, and red pigments found in foods like carrots, sweet potatoes, apricots, mangoes, pumpkin, tomatoes, papaya, peaches, and other similarly colored foods as well as dark green vegetables like broccoli and leafy greens.

Catechins

Want to lose weight? Be sure to add catechins to your diet since they activate fat-burning genes in abdominal fat cells to assist with weight loss, and belly fat loss in particular. According to research at Tufts University, catechins increase abdominal fat loss by 77 percent and double total weight loss. Up your intake: Catechins are mainly found in green and black tea, as well as apples.

Flavonoids

Flavonoids are the miracle nutrients we keep hearing about in the media lately; they interfere with the stages of the development of cancer cells. Resveratrol, a particular flavonoid found predominantly in grapes, has demonstrated its ability to protect the brain from damage. Up your intake: Flavonoids are found in berries, cherries, currants, pomegranates, red and purple grapes, red onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, apple (skin), and walnuts.

Now you can understand why phytonutrients play such a critical role in your diet.

Any Eye Surgery helps to provide the look of youth and brings a freshness to the whole eye area. Eyelid Surgery has no need for any dressing, but sun glasses is recommended for the first few days, With any Surgery including the eyelid surgery there will be some swelling and bruising, but this will settle down in a couple of days, with the help of ice packs and plenty of rest.
