For the Reno Santa Crawl, I wanted to do some really wild red and green makeup, bold eyes, bold lips, glitter everywhere.. and it was the first time I used my red tinsel MAC lashes!

I’ve had these for a looong time but never done more than just gaze at them and try to picture what I would wear them to. I got so many compliments on them and this look! It was the perfect occasion for these

(Sry the lighting kinda sucks… the green and red were WAY brighter irl)

On the eyes I did Landscape Green chromaline as a base with Kelly Green, Emerald Green, and Forest Green pigments (all MAC) with the “Sunsonic” lashes. Lips were Ruby Woo.. I would have done glitter lips but I don’t have any red glitter!! I also put a lot of Reflects Gold glitter on my cheeks which didn’t show as much in these pics, alas.

Yesterday I bought some new fake eyelashes with diamonds on it.
I am going to use them for wednesday then I will have my Christmas dinner.
I still don’t know what to wear. Will figure it out this weekend.

Prim lashes are both blessed and cursed by Residents, mostly by the female avatars.  They improve our looks tremendously, and give variation to an appearance.  They’re often relatively inexpensive, and attach onto face points that aren’t often used (unless you’re wearing a hat or something else on your head.)  On the down side, they need adjustment to fit, a fiddly process that for many never quite works and that can tax the patience; and they usually can be seen floating a centimeter or so from the eyelids if you turn your head to the side.  Most lashes use invisible alpha-channel textures, as well, which brings its own problems familiar to many working with high-heel shoes in world.

Miamai now introduces something I haven’t seen before:  prim lashes.  That is, lashes made totally out of prims.  No single-sheet units with alpha textures here; each hair is an individual hair.  monica Outlander has released nine sets so far at L$150 each for your consumption.  I subscribe to updates from Miamai, so I went to the main store to check this out.  I was not alone, either — runway model Mui Mukerji was also in the store, having received the notice as well, and many more ladies arrived soon after.  The following is my opinion only, I should point out, coming from trying on two different sets, one for more casual wear, one looking like it’s meant for sheer glamour (as well as runway and modeling work).  I did, however, discuss these some with Mui, and that will be noted where it appears.

It is, of course, simple to put these on:  just drop them on your avatar or right-click and choose “wear.”  They rezz quickly in place.  I include here photos of the two sets I purchased, #2 and #3.

This is the Number 2.  Very lush on the upper lashes; with a good bit of eyeliner on your skin, there’s no noticing the join line of prim hairs.  The lower lashes are more scant, just like evolution dictates.

Number 3 shares some of the characteristics, though both Mui and I agree this is a more casual look.

Other sets that I’ve seen can ramp up the glamour factor as high as you care to go.  There are lashes with white hairs, that are even thicker, that have black or white mascara drops on hair tips.  Some of those are tempting to me, and I might try them yet…but I’m a little disappointed at the moment with the results I have here.

Compare the above with this look, my standard “Type I” shape/skin, wearing a set of Detour Edge alpha lashes:

I had to work to get these adjusted as well as they appear now, and sometimes the problems I listed above do crop up.  However, the appearance of the lower lashes is thicker; and, when I pull out from this closeup, it stays consistent.  Here is Miamai’s Number 2, photographed from farther out from my face, perhaps only a meter or two:

The effect begins to look as if you have spidery hairs around your lower lids instead of lashes.  I’m finding this unsatisfactory, though I won’t toss these lashes out just yet.

One reason I’d continue experimenting with individual-prim lashes is the comparative ease in editing.  You’ll have to crank your camera in close to do the job — use Ctrl-) to close in, and Ctrl-( to back out — but once you get close enough, edit individual prims and click on each hair to move it as you wish.  You can move these babies right on to the line of the lid.  You can also stretch them, which may help compensate for the spidery look I noted above; if you try this, I’d strongly suggest you make sure you have “Stretch both sides” selected on the editing controls, then stretch them on the red handles (side to side).  This appears to “fatten” up the hairs satisfactorily, if you keep conservative about it.  (Too much, and you’ll get something totally alien to what most people look for.)

One other down side I can think of for these lashes — at the risk of setting off an old argument — is that each of these hairs is a prim.  That means you’re wearing a lot of prims here; for instance, the Number 3 set has 157 prims in it.  You do not want to wear these to a big event, such as a ball, a mega-concert, or Hair Fair.  Going down to no other prims besides my fri.day hair, I was at an Avatar Rendering Cost of 386; taking off the wig as well, I still rang the bell at 105.  (Standing still, the lashes appear to add on 29 ARC points to the cost.)  I realize that many on the Grid consider ARC a “social-science number” with no real worth; but I believe it does provide a reasonable barometer on how much strain you’re adding to clients and servers.

My end opinion:  monica has a good idea here, but I’m not quite sure how well it’s working yet.  I think more hairs, at the risk of raising ARC up higher, might compensate for some of the “spider-hair” effect I noted.  If nothing else, L$150 isn’t too big a price to drop on something, so you might be interested in experimenting here.

We’ve all been there, ladies. We want those thick, luscious lashes framing our sparkling eyes, but aren’t all those hours of applying mascara exhausting?

What you need to know is that Latisse is a prescription drug. Although some day spas are staffed with professionals who are certified to apply Latisse, they aren’t optometrists. Should you actually have any issues (heaven forbid), they won’t be able to help you.

One of my moles at a beauty stop in Soho told me one of her coworkers is trying out this eyelash-growth new product, neulash (that, gasp, she had to go to the competition to buy!). It’s over-the-counter (unlike Latisse, which I have heard some horror stories about) and claims to lengthen and improve the overall condition of eyelashes. Well, my friend in Soho told me her coworker’s eyelashes “need to be trimmed and look fake!” One of the key ingredients is Biotin, which a lot of models take as a supplement to make their hair grow faster, and it’s not cheap at $150. The testimonials are pretty good so maybe I will check it out before the end of the year!

This is a delicious word that I found on Netty’s German blog.

It is not one of the four German words that I understand, so I had to use translation tools to find the meaning. Google Translate helpfully gave the English translation as “wimperklimpernd,” but a couple of other sites came up with  ”lash-tinkling”, or “eyelash-jingling.”

What a wonderful expression.

HAIR – £4,000 A YEAR
Cheryl Cole’s hair may look natural, but those trademark luxurious waves are actually made of Monofibre acrylic extensions. According to her hairdresser Julien Guyonnet, her extensions used to be created with human hair, but after her own locks became damaged they started using acrylic instead. The acrylic hair won’t cause bald patches as it doesn’t require glue. Julien gave Cheryl extensions four weeks ago – they have to be maintained every six to eight weeks – and a full set are needed every three months at around £700 a time.

EYELASHES – UP TO £1,800 A YEAR
While her eyelashes have always been fairly long, Cheryl is now never seen without her elongated lashes. She even has her own range of Eylure lashes, along with her Girls Aloud bandmates. Alexsandra Byrne, eyelash and make-up artist for Get Lashed, says: ‘She’s clever as she chooses lashes that are long but delicate.’ A complete set of lash extensions can cost up to £150, and need maintenance every four to six weeks.

MAKE-UP – £40,000 A YEAR
As the new face of L’Oreal, Cheryl receives around £500 worth of beauty products a month, but her yearly bill runs much higher. Lisa Laudat, Cheryl’s personal stylist, is reportedly paid £40,000 a year to do her make-up. She’s on hand for touch-ups during The X Factor’s live shows. Cheryl and Dannii used to share a make-up artist, but now Lisa, who used to work with Girls Aloud, looks after Cheryl full-time.

DIET AND EXERCISE
Cheryl admitted to having a personal trainer at the start of the year – she says that she has to work hard on her legs – but mostly puts her figure down to hours of dancing, both in Girls Aloud and now as a solo artist. She has shed a stone since her still-slim Girls Aloud days, and now weighs eight stone, which is in part down to a low-carb diet. She avoids red meat and favours low-fat Japanese food.

EYEBROWS – UP TO £800 A YEAR
Not too thin, not too thick and perfectly shaped – Cheryl’s brows may well have been groomed by an expert. This look was most likely achieved with the traditional method of eyebrow threading, where fine thread is twisted around each hair to pull it out. To achieve her look, Cheryl would have to have them done every three weeks, which can cost as much as £45 a go.

TEETH – £9,500 PLUS
Dr Wyman Chan, Cheryl’s cosmetic dentist from smilestudioLondon, has given her porcelain veneers and whitening treatments to improve her teeth. He says: ‘Perfecting her smile was of huge importance to Cheryl, so she had four porcelain veneers placed on her front teeth to correct the irregularity.’ Veneers are wafer-thin covers that are cemented to the front surface of the tooth, similar to the way false nails are applied, once the tooth is filed down. It costs up to £1,500 per tooth.

FAKE TAN – UP TO £3,200 A YEAR
The company Fake Bake’s celebrity tanner and skincare expert Lisa Fulton says: ‘When Cheryl started to get media interest, she began using fake tan. She uses our lighter tanning products – only one or two tones darker than her natural skin tone – so she doesn’t have that mahogany look.’ To maintain this look, Cheryl has four sprays a month, plus she uses ten bottles of gradualtanning spray and ten bottles of instant wash-off spray a year.

STYLISTS AND DESIGNER CLOTHING – £145,000
Although designers are falling over themselves to clothe Mrs Cole, she still spends a small fortune on fashion. Her two stylists, Frank Strachan and Victoria Adcock, the woman behind her militaryinspired outfits, are both old friends of Cheryl’s. They have transformed her from girl-next-door to glamorous goddess, but at a cost of £45,000 a year for both. It is now estimated she spends £100,000 on clothes each year on top of that.

Are you tired of getting cotton pad fibers stuck in your eyes and eyelashes?

So was I. I finally found the perfect facial cotton pads for removing make-up. Shiseido’s Facial Cotton is about ten times better than your average cosmetic pads.

I guess the Japanese have a hold on cosmetics on top of their technology hold.

The Shiseido facial cotton pads are 100% cotton, are square, and are thicker and softer than the regular pads. They work very well. I definitely won’t go back to the regular kind, unless it’s just for my nails, but even then.

The Shiseido pack that I bought is a bit more expensive than the fibrous variety, but you get more in the package, and, they are simply superior.

You can buy them at Sephora or at Shoppers Drug Mart where I found them. I’m sure there are other retailers out there as well.

I’ve actually been removing my eye-makeup properly now that I have these. No more pillow case eyeliner for me!

Today I’m thankful for the little touch of longer, fuller lashes that make me feel instantly sexy and glamorous. Offered in a wide variety of thicknesses and colors, I can always find an option that is perfect for any occasion. I’ve had plans with my girlfriends both nights this weekend, so I’ve been able to go out and sport my favorite accessory. I’m an eyeliner fiend on a daily basis, but fake lashes give me that little extra oomf for social situations on the weekends or for special occasions. My eyes are one of my favorite features, and I love the way that fake eyelashes draw attention to them and make others appreciate the beauty in my baby browns too. I hope to eventually be able to get eyelash extensions, but until then, I’ll continue to proudly rock my trusty falsies whenever I can.

CHERYL Cole may be blushing at her chart success as she readies for a crack at the US market under the watchful eye of hip-hop star Jay-Z.

But it seems fellow X-Factor judge Dannii Minogue is the winner in the fashion stakes as far as Scots fans of the show are concerned at least, as they flock to stylists desperate to copy the Australian beauty’s look instead.

Cheryl has been the one grabbing all the headlines after her album ‘3 Words’ smashed into the charts at number one helped by her own performances on the hit show.

Yet according to the fashion experts, it’s Dannii’s 1920’s style bob haircut which is keeping the nation’s crimpers busier than usual.

Former celebrity make-up artist Sadie Jean Sloss, who is based in Edinburgh, said Dannii has sparked the busiest period at her DollyLeo boutique since she first launched her business more than a year ago.

And she says it’s all about Dannii as staff are left to work double time to cope with demand.

She said: “When the X Factor live shows hit television screens in October I noticed women started to come in asking to look like Dannii Minogue.

“At first I was surprised, because I thought Cheryl Cole’s look would be the more popular.

“But as the show progressed it quickly became obvious that Danni’s look is a bit more chic and sophisticated.

“Most women prefer it to Cheryl’s more Barbie doll look.”

Sadie says the biggest change to Dannii’s apearance has been her funky 1920s Flappers-inspired bob with a severe fringe.

But they are also trying to emulate the singer’s understated make-up look too described by Sadie as a “dewy complexion” with it’s light tan base.

Sadie added: “Dannii also admitted to ditching her overly Botoxed look and let it slip that she now used make-up miracle product – Becca’s Line and Pore Corrector.

“It had literally been flying out the door.

“In fact I’ve had to increase double my working week to cope with the demand to look like Dannii.”

But it’s not all doom and swoon for Dannii’s younger X-Factor rival.

Cheryl was recently snapped up as the new face of L’Oreal in a one year deal, making her the first British woman since Kate Moss in 1998 to star for the Paris label.

She has also just registered her own company at Cheryl Cole Limited ahead of signing an anticipated £5 million book deal with publishers Harper Collins.

Her debut solo single Fight For This Love was also the fastest selling song of the year so far as it raced to number one.
