Internet khususnya situs jejaring sosial seperti Facebook memang memberikan dampak yang sangat hebat bagi kehidupan manusia. Tapi di balik itu semua, dengan segala kemudahan yang ditawarkannya, dunia maya menjadi semakin rawan dengan adanya kehadiran para stalker penguntit yg semakin bergerak bebas.

Dengan adanya situs jejeraing sosial serta micro blogging seperti twitter dan plurk, stalker kini mampu mendeteksi segala tingkah laku calon korbannya. Tentu Anda pernah memilki friend request orang-orang yang tidak Anda kenal? Ataupun mungkin setelah Anda berteman, ternyata orang tersebut justru betingkah aneh dan seperti sok kenal. Oleh karena itu beberapa tips untuk menghindari diri dari ancaman para penguntit yang obsesif ini mungkin berguna.

Dengan info diri yang konstan ditampilkan pada news feed Twitter dan Facebook setiap waktu inilah sekaligus memberikan tanda bahwa Stalkers are welcome! Semua informasi dapat dikonsumsi orang-orang tidak dikenal ini mulai dari album foto, aktivitas terkini, riwayat pendidikan dam pekerjaan, dan lain-lain. Meski maksudmu untuk memberikan informasi-informasi tersebut adalah supaya teman lama mampu menghubungi kamu. Namun, alangkah baiknya kamu memilih orang-orang tertentu saja yang mampu mengikuti perkembangan aktivitasmu.

Hal yang harus kamu lakukan adalah lakukan setting pada Facebook-mu. Caranya, klik  Facebook.com/privacy untuk membuat grup eksklusif  yang memiliki keistimewaan untuk mengakses profile, gambar, dan status update. Jika melalui MySpsce, kamu bisa membuat setting private profile dibawah meny “Account Setting”. Untuk pengguna Twitter, lihat boks yang bernama “Protect My Updates” dalam halamanmu. Dengan setting seperti ini, hanya yang menjadi “followers” yang bisa membaca aktivitas pada status feed-mu.

Jangan menjadi status-freak

Banyak orang yang selalu memberikan informasi dirinya sedang berada dimana dan sedang berbuat apa. Contohnya “Sedang makan di Ragusa bareng pacar”, atau “Duh besok ke Bali, enaknya pake apa ya?”, dan lain-lain. Hal-hal seperti ini jelas sekali menunjukkan bahwa kamu senang sekali mengumbar informasi pribadi kepada orang. Disinilah stalker menjadi raja! Oleh karena itu, mulailah membatasi diri untuk tidak selalu memberikan informasi gambling tentang dirimu. Mulailah bermawas diri.

Googling Tiap Hari

Lakukan Google Alert yang akan membantumu untuk menandakan ada seseorang yang sedang penguntit. Masuk ke akun Google.com/alerts, dan masukkan nomor telepon dan namamu. Dengan fasilitas ini, Google akan selalu memberikan notifications setiap kali ada seseorang yang sedang googling nama dan nomor telepon.  Fasilitas ini memberikan informasi tentang siapa yang sedang mencari informasi tentang dirimu.

Feel Free to Disconnect

Jangan penah ragu untuk memutuskan hubungan internet. Dengan fasilitas GPS, Google earth, dan wikimap yang memudahkan orang lain mengetahui posisimu, stalker akan semakin mudah mendeteksi pergerakanmu. Oleh karena itu, tahan dirimu untuk tidak selalu online. Oleh karena itu, janganlah pernah ragu untuk memutuskan jaringan internet pada handphone dan BlackBerry setiap kali tidak terlalu dipergunakan. (rileks)

The creepers abound on Facebook, the social networking giant that provides information on your life to everyone you accept into your friends list. The undiscerning can find themselves in a load of trouble if they’re not careful. The ever-present Facebook stalker is always waiting just around the corner.

I just found a potential landlord on facebook. As in responded to an ad on Craigslist, got a return answer and using the name Google mail provided me with and the phone number he provided, I was able to find a photo of him doing running stretches with his friend from Oakland.

Huh.

I should probably review my profile…

When I graduated high school in 2006 and created a Facebook, the social networking site was mostly used by college students.  Creating a Facebook was a sign that you had finally recieved your official college e-mail address.  It would be the way to research your future roommates and the students you met at orientation. 

Now my little brother has a Facebook, and my dad wants one, too. 

Not only have the users of the social networking site changed, but also a sort  of Facebook addiction is beginning to spread like an epidemic.  Upon first creating my account, I would only log in once a day.  Now, I’m checking it all the time.  It’s a distraction.  

It’s even worse for people with iPhones and Blackberries who can check for updates anywhere, anytime.  I, sadly, do not have the option of checking it mid-class on my beat-up razr cell phone. 

With the addition of the newsfeed and very specific profile updates, it becomes even easier to become a “Facebook stalker.”  At one point at another, we’ve all been guilty of it.  But now, Facebook will tell you that so and so updated their relationship status eight minutes ago.  It’s almost impossible to hold back the urge to click.

So how do you know if you’re addicted to Facebook? 

 Tara Stiles at the Huffington Post wrote a hilarious article, complete with 10 signs of addiction, on the subject.  Stiles even suggests those who self-diagnose themselves as Facebook addicts can form a support group–on Facebook, that is. 

What’s the deal with the future of Facebook?  Will we all be addicted soon?  Should I expect a friend request from my grandma in the near future?  Will my 6-year-old neighbor be tagging me in some pictures?  I guess we’ll have to wait and find out, or at least hold off until the “next big thing” after Facebook.

Ok now I am the first person to admit that I am annoyed easily. But there are some things about Facebook and its innate capacity as a vehicle for oversharing that has me internally cringing this time.

I hate. HATE. HATE when people “become a fan” of stupid shit that everyone is a fan of and just makes them look like a douche. I mean fair enough if you join the pages of a band or comedian but the next time I see something like “Sarah has become a fan of sleeping” I will reach into the computer screen and virtually slap them. Who ISN’T a fan of sleeping? Oh but that’s actually really useful information, Sarah, because I was losing sleep not knowing whether you were a fan of sleeping or not. But thanks to that Facebook confirmation I can rest easy!

And it’s not like I can just block these people or stop their trivialities appearing in my mini-feed because it happens to the best of us. A friend who will not be named recently made me question our friendship (only half-joking here) when he publicly became a fan of sex. Oh jeez. Come on. This has entered a new realm of internet boasting. But why stop there? I won’t entirely be surprised if sometime in the near future it will pop up on my mini-feed that a friend has become a fan of nipple clamps. That’s how honest – or dishonest – some people are becoming on these social networking sites. Above all else, they’re just stating the bleeding obvious. Shock, horror! I am also a fan of air and water I just don’t feel the need to waste other people’s oh-so-precious mini-feed space with my love of life’s necessities. In fact, perhaps if you weren’t such a fan of air, we would do something about it’s lofty abundance in that ball-shaped thing on top of your shoulders.

Now if you excuse me, I’m going to become a fan or getting a glass of water, getting dressed in my pajamas and going to bed.

“The Facebook Skit” is hilarious parody of the popular (or it was once upon a time) Enrique Iglesias song Hero. It’s a well done song and video that takes its hilarity (and perhaps a tinge of sadness) from just how true some of it really is. The chorus rings out “I can be your facebook stalker,” and come on… you know you’ve done it.

“The Facebook Skit” was created by Penn Masala, a premier Hindi a cappella group founded at the University of Pennsylvania. They’ve had alot of success over the last few years and have given concerts in several major cities worldwide. Check out their website to learn more about them and hear some of their music.

Yep, Facebook brings me joy.

There is just something about this social networking website that I love. There is so much to do on Facebook that you could spend hours wasting time on it.

I have almost all of my friends in one place that I can talk to any time I want.

I can message someone on there wall or send them a little note personally and others do the same for me.

I can post unlimited pictures from my life and look at all of my friends pictures.

I can update my status to something really funny or serious.

I can post a note about my thoughts or take a quiz for all of my friends to see.

I can post a really funny video and all my friends can comment on it.

I can stalk my friends and their friends and their friends . . . but I don’t do that . . .

I can find friends that I haven’t seen in years.

I can create events and invite all my friends to them.

I can find out when my friends start dating, who they are dating and when they break up.

I can spend my free time trying to take the perfect shot for my profile picture!
