Give yourself a facial

If you can’t afford to go out and pay someone else to give you a facial, create time and space at home to nurture yourself a little. Start by setting the mood…take the phone off the hook, put on some nice music, get into some comfy clothes and get ready to relax.

Start by cleansing your skin. Then try some exfoliation and a deep cleansing mask.  Lie down and rest your eyes while the mask does its work.  Once the mask is washed off, try some toner and a lovely nurturing moisturizer.  I’m sure you have your own favorite brands that you use.  Otherwise the body shop stocks lots of inexpensive goodies.  I really love the range of ‘Ayana Organics’ that I sampled on the weekend.  See below for Sams lovely range of products.  What I particularly like about them is that they are all organic, are not tested on animals and they are all created under the fair trade scheme.

Do you scrub?  How often should you scrub?

Yes we live in a hectic world.  We have enough time just to do the basic, short of not bathing, not brushing teeth, not washing your face and hair… I can fully apprehend especially with coco in my life now.  I raced for every single minute of my life to make the fullest use so that i can have some “mine” time.  It’s amazing that I still have time to write! Perhaps that helps to keep me “connected”. Scrubbing / exfoliation is as basic as washing your face.  To me it’s basic hygiene.  I know many skip the scrub due to “no – time”, “i go for facial”, “no necessary” etc.  But NO you need to scrub, at least twice a week.  That helps to remove grime that has settled deeper into your pores.  Yes, your beautician may be able to help clear the pores, but deep-rooted black heads remover may “hurt” your pores.  Most importantly one should not deprive your skin of oxygen it needs to breathe.  With all blackheads and sebum settling in the pores, how healthy can your skin get? The next time you skip scrubbing your face, think again.

While waiting for the consultant to do a FREE skin analysis for me (though unwillingly i had to go through it so as to get the right facial treatment), i saw 2 customers making payment arrangement. I heard them paying a total of more than $8K!! altogether they have to use 3 or 4 credit cards to get it through and on top of that, they arranged for instalments payments with the credit cards. I was wondering, wah lao, sign what package sign until $8K, maybe some lose weight program? Anyway when it was my turn to do the skin analysis, i was as usual being exposed of my own horrible secrets of large pores, uneven skin, bad pigmentation, aging problem. honestly, who’s perfect? i wanted to ask her how about u try the machine on yourself and tell me if u are getting better results than i had? hehe. after a painstaking boring skin analysis, i was gladly brought to enjoy my facial. The facial was really good!! i must really credit them for doing an impressive trial facial to win over customers. There’s oxygen mask given when i had the mask on, quite impressive to me. Their detailed shoulder massge and scalp massage were also relaxing and long enough duration to feel it. I was really keen to sign up a package, thinking that maybe $38 per session is worth it to sign up. But at the end of the facial, when i was introduced to the package, i was shocked to know how exorbitant the price is. The facial that i had just done – cost $600 plus per session! if i choose to do during off peak hours, i get to pay only half. Is that cheap? obviously not. i just told the consultant that $300 plus for a facial is too exp and i won’t sign up for sure. I think she knows i’m also not just any carrot to chop on. she gave up the idea persuading me and went on to introduce me to sign up a voucher which cost $68 for a facial. I used my current facial package as a yardstick to compare prices – at $100 per session for ice peel. so as long as anything below a hundred, it’s worth a consideration. but honestly, to get the cheapest deal- just have to go to facial salon for trial facial at less than $50. Just by doing that alone with islandwide salons, should be able to last as long as 5 years. the only woe is to have to fill up the forms, go through all the sales talk all over again. what’s a better choice then? ease of mind or fatter purse?

No need to turn to drastic solutions, such as plastic surgery to correct facial imperfections. I’m all for living an organic lifestyle. There’s simply no reason not to. But I draw the line at smearing birthing excrement on my face.

Gross, I know, but Hollywood is telling me that the new fountain of youth comes from the very beginning of youth itself.  So alert the media: the new craze for the beauty-obsessed is placenta facials.

Just to make sure we’re all clear, placenta is a temporary organ joining the mother and fetus. It transfers oxygen and nutrients from the mother to the fetus, and permits the release of carbon dioxide and waste products from the fetus. But don’t worry, the facial itself is “ordinary-smelling.” Phew, because I smelling like afterbirth and fetal waste is the real problem here.
