<p>The American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA), a post-secondary performing arts college with campuses in Los Angeles and New York City, is <strong>now accepting resumes for future part-time teaching positions</strong> in Musical Theatre. The positions are based in Los Angeles.</p>
<p>AMDA is specifically seeking instructors with experience teaching courses in any/all styles of Musical Theatre including: Light Opera, Contemporary, and Pop/Rock. AMDA is also seeking instructors with expertise teaching Musical Theatre History. Applicants should specify their use of any media associated with their curriculum.</p>
<p>Ideal candidates should possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, honed from personal performing experiences on a professional level, and pedagogy of teaching at a college level.</p>

Performance Credentials:</span></strong></p>

<description><![CDATA[I&#8217;ve been posting an eclectic mix of jobs on the blog lately, some of which may not be entirel]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve been posting an eclectic mix of jobs on the blog lately, some of which may not be entirely desirable (one year replacement positions in far flung locales, for example).  I&#8217;m working under the assumption, however, that any lead is a good lead, or at least worth a mention.  I&#8217;m also assuming that job-seekers are already scouring the CAA listings, which   contain all mainstream listings.  I was intrigued to learn recently that some schools balk at the $1,000 listing fee that CAA charges, and only post through listserves and regional professional organizations like SECAC (where a number of these postings have come from recently).</p>
<p>In any case, don&#8217;t be discouraged if the job postings here skew to the regional and uninspiring &#8211; they are included precisely because they might be hard to find otherwise.</p>
<p>As always keep sending me leads and I&#8217;ll try to keep the blog up-to-date!</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Primary teaching responsibilities include undergraduate courses in art history, Courses include a standard two-course survey of Western Art History, African American Art History, and a survey of Non-Western Art History covering: Far and Near Eastern, Islamic, African, Native American, and Pacific art history. The art historian will also teach Art Appreciation. In addition to teaching, research, and publications, the art historian serves as Curator of the Jackson State permanent art collection and is the Visual Resources Coordinator for the department. Faculty members are expected to participate in: professional development, undergraduate advising, curriculum development, and other committee service within the department, college, and the university. The art historian will maintain cross-disciplinary dialogues, and supervision of student-related activities, while producing a consistent level of scholarly activity.</p>
<p>Qualifications: Doctorate or ABD in Art History; Teaching experience at the college level beyond the TA preferred, and examples of research and scholarly accomplishments. A variety of art history backgrounds and scholarship will be considered, and the candidate need not be a specialist in any particular area of art history. The preferred candidate will have an ability to contribute to revitalizing an innovative and expanding art program in a liberal arts setting within a diverse learning environment and community. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.</p>

<p>A full time teaching load of three courses each fall and three each spring.  Teach Junior/Senior Seminar in Art History, three other art history courses (ideally including 18th &#38; 19th Century Art and Contemporary Art, although this is open to negotiation), and two interdisciplinary humanities courses for the Core curriculum (focused in art history).</p>
<p>The candidate will be expected to assist with departmental wide reviews for upper-class students in both Studio Art and Art History.</p>
<p>Qualifications:</p>
<p>PhD preferred, ABD acceptable, areas of concentration open</p>
<p>A strong desire to be an active participant in a small art department</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Department of Art History in the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University seeks candidates for a tenure track position in the art and architecture of the period 1500-1800 at the rank of assistant professor. Position to begin August 16, 2011. Qualifications: Ph.D. in art history; research agenda to complement and expand existing areas of focus in the department; potential for external research funding; demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment (or commitment to do so). I imagined that the academic job market was as bleak&#8211;if not more so&#8211;than the non-academic market. On the contrary&#8230;to paraphrase the speakers, &#8220;the best people are still finding jobs.&#8221; Still, you must put your best foot forward to be a standout candidate on the academic market.</p>
<p>If you find the entire process of applying for academic jobs overwhelming, or are not sure where to start, check out the <a title="Academic job search workshop" href="https://www.training.nih.gov/assets/Slides_9_7_10.pdf" target="_blank">OITE workshop</a> held last month for an overview of the academic job market and tips on preparing your application package. <p>Think about the documents you need to submit. Are you satisfied with them? How many people have you shared them with? The Art History program at Mount Holyoke College invites applications for a<br />
tenure-track position in the History of Early Modern European Architecture and<br />
Art. The position is for an assistant professorship and begins Fall 2011. We are<br />
especially interested in candidates who interpret European art in a global<br />
setting. The teaching load is two courses per semester. Submit letter of<br />

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I was making coffee this morning in my kitchen when NPR announced that a study showed that Women are starting to earn more doctoral degrees than men (we earned 50.4%).  This doesn&#8217;t really surprise me,  when I joined graduate school it felt like it was a pretty equal guy to girl ratio.</p>
<p>I think the fact that now its proven that we are able to receive the same number of higher degrees as men is great and a huge step for women rights, but then I still wonder why there is  a discrepancy in women that hold faculty positions?  Is this about to change next?  I hope so.  Either way take a peek at the article in the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/14/women-earn-more-doctoral-_n_716244.html">huffington post</a>.<br />

The NPR and Huffington Post news report also made me pretty happy because only a couple of years ago there was a comment  reported that &#8220;innate differences in sex may explain why fewer women succeed in science and math careers&#8221; by a  Harvard University President back in 2005.  I wonder what the percent of woman PhD&#8217;s out of Harvard was in 2008-2009 and I wonder how Dr. Summers would explain his findings with the currently reported stats?</p>
<p>I know this is a music/art blog, but I&#8217;m also intrigued by this topic.  What&#8217;s your opinion?  Is there a discrepancy between women and men in science? Do we need to even be talking about this anymore?  I like talking about it, but then again I&#8217;m a girl in science with a doctorate degree with a blog that suggests I like talking about myself.</p>

<p><strong>American University Washington College of Law</strong> is looking for a tenure-track or tenured lateral environmental law professor.  The preferred candidate would teach US Environmental Law with a scholarly focus on federal environmental law and regulation.  Other curricular needs that would be a plus are administrative law, property law or energy law.</p>
<p><strong>George</strong><strong> Washington University Law School</strong> – possible environmental law search, but not yet decided.</p>
<p><strong>Georgia</strong><strong> State</strong><strong> </strong>seeks candidates who specialize in environmental law. <p><strong>Syracuse Law School</strong> is looking for an environmental person. Syracuse shares a campus with the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry and has a close relationship with it and with the Maxwell School of Citizenship.  The new hire has the option to teach a course on regulation for the joint degree students simultaneously pursuing a J.D. and a Masters of Public Administration.</p>
<p><strong>University</strong><strong> of Colorado</strong>: Looking for an environmental person, priorities are CAA/CWA expertise, regulation and enforcement.  Not looking particularly for natural resources, energy, or climate expertise, since those are well covered.  Colorado is also searching for someone to run the natural resources litigation clinic.</p>

<p>When  the bottom fell out of the economy in the fall of 2008, the initial  reaction among my students was one of shock. This generation is one that  has been protected from failure and insulated from risk. I tend to have  graduating seniors in the class that I teach, so those not already in  business for themselves did not know what to do next.  Graduation was  looming.</p>
<div>But  over the next few months, I saw a transformation. My students began to  accept the new state of the world and adjust their expectations. I began  to believe that this generation is ready to follow their  entrepreneurial spirit and help rebuild our economy.</div>

<p>When I began working on my first entrepreneurship curriculum about a quarter century ago, I made a cold call to Jeff Timmons to get some ideas about how to best go about setting up my first entrepreneurship course. He was very gracious and extremely generous with his time.  He openly shared materials on his courses and curriculum.</p>
<p>I went to my first USABE and ICSB meetings in the mid-1980s. Again, I was amazed at how welcoming the pioneers in entrepreneurship education were to a young academic like me – sharing their best practices, their curriculum and their syllabi.</p>
<p>Entrepreneurship is a discipline that continues to be built with an open source model.  Someone shares a classroom exercise with a colleague at another school.  That professor takes that idea, improves on it, and then passes it along to another colleague somewhere else.  That is the spirit on which we have built this newsletter.</p>

<p>Entrepreneurship is a contact sport that is best learned by doing.  In this month’s issue we include program ideas that offer experiential learning opportunities for your students that range from intensive to simple.  Two programs we feature this month are intensive summer experiences that immerse students into the entrepreneurial process.  Another is a program that links university researchers with entrepreneurship students.  Finally, we see a couple of simple exercises that give students a common entrepreneurial experience to use as a base of learning.</p>

<p>Each year we are seeing more of our young students and alumni starting new businesses, particularly in the weak job market that is part of this on-going recession.  A critical skill for any entrepreneur is selling.  In times when start-up capital is limited, personal selling is one of the most effective methods to bootstrap marketing efforts in a cash strapped start-up.  In this issue we offer two perspectives on teaching selling.  In the first article, we offer an outline for a lecture or unit on selling that can be integrated into an existing entrepreneurship course.  The second article on selling links to several examples of syllabi for courses on selling and sales management.</p>
