So I was listening to this album [Diciembre, 3 a.m. by Migala]… liking what I’m hearing, and suddenly something familiar hits me. An excellent Mazzy Star cover. I’m always happy when this happens, mostly because covers suck big time.

The eerily beautiful Fade Into You was the biggest hit for Mazzy Star, taken from their 1993 album So Tonight That I Might See. The band were formed by ex-Rain Parade guitarist David Roback and singer Hope Sandoval from the ashes of Opal, and recorded three albums. Never officially splitting, a fourth LP has been in the worksd, on and off, for over a decade.

Mazzy Star is an alternative pop/rock band that formed in 1989. They enjoyed some mainstream success in 1994 with their single “Fade Into You” which became their only song to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with it peaking at #44.  Meanwhile it peaked at #3 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Chart.

hab lange nicht gepostet, schön dass ihr oder bessergesagt du noch herkommst (du weist wer gemeint ist, die einzige Leserin dieses Blogs).

Nun, ich habs geschafft meine erste schriftliche Prüfung hinter mich zu bringen. War lange nicht so schlimm, wie ich erwartet hatte. Die Fragen waren nicht übermäßig kompliziert, die Vorbereitung auch nicht so stressig. Das einzige, was die Sache von einer normalen Schulaufgabe abgehoben hat, waren die pingeligen Bestimmungen: uns wurde eingeschärft, Turnschuhe mitzubringen – da man die Turnhalle, in der die Prüfung stattfand ja nur in Hallenschuhen betreten darf… und das von einem Schuldirektor, der schreit „you’re fucking brilliant,” wenn man im Unterricht etwas richtiges sagt.

Soweit es den Teil meines Lebens angeht, der am Tageslicht stattfindet läuft also alles ganz gut. Etwas anderes sind die Nächte. Es hat schon immer eine eigenartige Beziehung zwischen mir und dem Schlaf bestanden. Ich glaube die erste erwähnenswerte Phase von Insomnie hatte ich zu beginn des Gymnasiums. Und jetzt hab ich wieder eine. Keine sehr schlimme, meine Hände zittern kaum und ich kann auch noch einigermaßen scharf sehen. Aber seit etwa einer Woche habe ich keine Nacht länger als vier oder fünf Stunden geschlafen. Trotzdem ist da kaum ein Gefühl von Müdigkeit. Ich fühle mich abends nicht müde, wenn ich trotzdem versuche zu schlafen, dann liege ich bis ein Uhr wach. Es ist nicht, dass ich besonders besorgt wäre, oder über irgendetwas nachgrüble… meine Augen bleiben einfach nicht zu. Ich liege wach und langweile mich nur. Und wenn ich einschlafe wache ich am nächsten Morgen um fünf auf. Einfach so. Ich hab ja keinen Unterricht mehr, das heißt ich könnte ausschlafen. Aber jetzt habe ich jeden Morgen massig Zeit, meiner kleinen Schwester Frühstück zu machen, wenn sie für die Schule aufsteht.

Andererseits hab ich so auch mehr Zeit um Bücher zu lesen, oder das Frühstücksfernsehen zu verfolgen (man denkt Frühstücksfernsehen ist totaler Schund, aber ich habe daraus in den letzten Tagen etwas über Einstein, Planck und Foucault gelernt… mist, warum bin ich eigentlich je in die Schule gegangen; jeden Morgen fernzusehen hätte gereicht).

Solange die Schlaflosigkeit auf diesem Niveau bleibt und sich nicht auf das Maß verschlimmert, das ich früher schon erlebt habe, als es vorkam, dass ich mich wie in Watte eingewickelt fühlte und ab und zu plötzlich meine Hände eingeschlafen sind… solange das nicht wieder passiert ist die Sache vielleicht gar nicht so schlimm.

Einen Großteil der vielen Stunden, die ich in letzter Zeit wach verbracht habe, verbrachte ich mit einem Song, entweder ich hörte ihn auf meinem mp3 Player oder er wiederholte sich in meinem Kopf; es ist Fade Into You, von Mazzy Star. Ich habe diese wunderbare Band durch „Unschuldig”, diese neue Fernsehserie entdeckt. Ich hab mir die CD gekauft und die ganze Musik ist irgendwie so traumartig und federleicht; die Stimme der Sängerin nimmt einen an der Hand und man schwebt in den Nachthimmel, man ist schwerelos und verliert sich einfach in der unglaublichen Weite der Musik… so etwa fühlt es sich an. Nein, ich bin nicht auf LSD.

Im Internet steht, dass diese Art von Musik einer eigenen Stilrichtung namens „Dream Pop” angehört. Ich brauche unbedingt mehr davon.
