peopleofwalmart.com That is a great site. I’ve been checking in on that site and, of course, failblog.org. I’ve also recently gotten into making fun of the missed connections section of craigslist. I’ve been really taking pleasure in reading about people grasping at the most insane scenarios. What are people thinking?! Vinny Cerrato got fired….oops, I mean he “resigned” today. That’s just the start, bye bye Jim Zorn. Now, if there was a Delete button for Dan Snyder, I’d say Christmas came early.

So it looks like I dove into blogging at exactly the right time, kids – we’re all getting book deals!  Hazzah!

I wish.  Sarcasm aside, it seems that many publishers these days, all looking for the next big thing, are approaching bloggers and offering them super-nifty book deals. I don’t think I’m getting one anytime soon (what do you mean my blog lacks focus?), but the hope being offered up by Brianna Ehrlich at mashable.com is appreciated just the same.  As you can see if you follow the link, Ehrlich wrote a fantastic blog-to-book deal article today, highlighting 6 particular success stories.

More importantly, and certainly more relevant to the alleged direction of this blog, what this story serves to illustrate is the reality that blogging is the next wave of the written word.  This often confuses the bejeezus out of older, more academic generations who dismiss blogging as irrelevant, self-indulgent, or worse, useless.  True, any Tom, Dick, or Sally can start a blog.  True, our friends Tom, Dick, and Sally need not pass a writing proficiency exam to continue blogging.  (Only a tiny sector of bloggers actually report to an editor.)  Still, though, my point is that you can make money off of blogging, and not just off of ads, etc.; book deals are possible.

As soon as blogger Ben Huh acquired FAILBLOG.org in 2008, it seemed only natural that a publisher would snap up the ever-popular humor site’s content for a book deal.  A collection of photos, videos, and associated commentary, FAILBLOG has single-handedly introduced the term “epic” fail into the common vernacular.  Mighty impressive, no?

I think so.  But, then again, who am I?  Just another girl with pipe dreams of someday author-hood…and, for now, blogging is the perfect way to express myself, but I must find a niche.  Not just any niche, but something highly specified, like FAILBLOG, or one of my other favorite blogs-turned-books, Twitter Wit, which is a cute archive of brilliance…in 140 characters or less.

So work on that blog, and keep dreaming of that book deal…it’s possible.

Nick was Tour Director on the French Excursion this previous summer and lead Community Service Hawaii in 2008, Community Service Costa Rica in 2007, and Community Service Alaska in 2006.

While in Dijon, the French Excursion was preparing for their Segway Tour through the 800 year old ancient city center. Nick wasn’t quite paying attention and took a slight tumble off of his Segway. Fortunately, one of his travelers caught the moment and uploaded the video to YouTube. A few days later, the clip was picked up by Failblog. Shortly after, it was picked up by a production company for the television show It Only Hurts When I Laugh on TruTV. They offered him $500 for the clip.

Don’t you wish you got paid everytime you slipped?

I believe that it is no accident that Monday and Mundane sound VERY similar. Mondays are always tough… I mean, why would you want to go back to the daily grind after hanging out for 48+ hours straight?!

To help you get through “Manic Monday,” “Mundane Monday,”  or “Monday Monday” (if you’re a fan of the Mamas and Papas), I am going to share with you a very fun website that will definately consume some time and hopefully help cure the severly contagious “case of the Mondays.”

It’s called TotallyLooksLike.com.

Many of you are most likely familiar with its parent site, Failblog.org (if not, don’t worry. I will definately cover that one later.). But I believe that TotallyLooksLike is an undiscovered gem. Basically the premisis of the site involves matching photos up…. they take images of famous people, average people, cartoons, and even inanimate objects and pair them up with their look-alikes.  You could seriously scroll through these look-alikes all day. It will definately get you through your 30 min lunch break.

Epic fail, TW. Epic fail.

The last few days, the media has been in a frenzy over Tiger Woods alleged affairs and mistresses and strippers and cocktail waitresses and possible alien babies with all of the aforementioned. It’s nuts. Anyways, the most pertinent conclusion I have made from this whole mess is how utterly sad it is that I am not even vaguely surprised.

I have this theory that men in power have their egos stroked so vigorously on a day to day basis that they begin to feel they are above the banal moments of our everyday existence. Men who are constantly praised and garner enormous amounts of attention begin to develop this hero complex; they are invincible and should not have to deal with insipid things like, say, their wife being a little crabby because she was locked in the house for 9 hours while her children threw pureed squash at her face.

For whatever reason, it happened, but to be honest, I do not appreciate the media coverage of this. Last night on Larry King Live, a commenter said that anyone who ‘didn’t know this was happening, was blind’. Sure, I agree. Adultery happens a alot, far more than it should, but this insane media coverage almost vindicating him for what he did gives this underlying sense of credence to the whole thing. Some notion that men have such voracious sexual appetites, that really they can’t help any of this. It’s biology! And nothing, not wedding vows, not babies at home and not even a multi-million dollar sponsorship deal with Nike, can stop it.

It’s quiet here.  Which I’m grateful for.  Thanksgiving Eve, and I’m just waiting for all the work bombs to drop before I can actually leave the office and get ready for some gluttony over Thanksgiving.

Hi all,

Check it out I got a new Christmas theme!!!  But relax it’s only temporary.  sorry I didn’t get to post yesterday.  My boss (the big one) said I was talking to the person next to me when I had just asked him  a technical question  . she said she had given me a warning.  she hadn’t.  all I had done was ask the guy next to me a question.  anyway she sent us both away from the computer to do something else.  The other guy got banned for two days which is even less fair.  Also we got a stupid firewall here, which luckily doesn’t block WordPress. but it does block some other awesome stuff like: Yahoo Mail , YouTube, Twitter, & facebook.  So I was just wondering if any of you out there know how to get past a DeepNines firewall.  If you do Comment or E-mail me at declanswpblog@gmail.com Also I don’t understand that name.  I mean what is a DeepNines I mean honestly is it like a low number or what…  Anyway I have found a few ways but they don’t always work, nothing foolproof.  Also I found an awesome website called FailBlog and it is HILARIOUS. Well I probably shouldn’t say I found it, my friend who doesn’t want to be named showed it to me.  The URL is FailBlog or if you’re on a DeepNines computer it’s at FailBlog.  By the way if a window may come up that says, Certificate error or Security error.  It’s OK  just click allow and proceed to the site.  Well gotago.
