Well now that I had a normal excited moment I will get back to being weird. I really want some cookie crunch or crunchy cookie…or something a long those lines. Well i just got a bowl of cookie crunch and chocolate fruity pebbles but I am letting it sit so it can get all mushy. I know I am weird but I like my cereal soft like baby food so I can easily slurp it all down and stuff my face lol

Well other then that, lets see I have a busy schedule tomorrow as well I will be attending the Caliber Salon event and getting my make up did by my llama mama. I gots to look extra pretty for the camera hehehe ok brb i got to stuff my face now.                     

Well now that my face is stuffed and I am ready for a nap, now I can really babble hahha, I really thought about having another glass of coffee but I think that would be bad. My poor body needs more water in it I did not realize that I have not actually drank water in over a week! I know that is terrible! (every time i got thirsty I just drank more coffee lol)

Do you think that people make these commercials just to fuck with your head. I would freak out! I have had a shit load of coffee today, and I am super excited to be moving forward with all the amazing things on the Stevie K show! Plus I got amazing things that will be debuting very soon and once its all in place I will announce it all! This is definitely shaping up to be my biggest year to date and its only January!!

I Love American Dad! I am growing bored with myself I wonder what britney spears is doing with her life. Is it more exciting now that she is single or is she heartbroken…hmm makes you wonder. So I thought I totally had some more exciting topics to think about but apparently I forgot them all so I am going to tra lalalalala over to the couch and lay down and watch some tv until carter calls. So to began the day (goodness we will see how long i last in writing this blog it may be long and it may be short…only time and my patience will tell) I woke up at 4:23 am after going to bed at midnight. Let me explain here that this was already a kink in my plan. I had set my alarm to 4am, Not 4:23 so I awoke in a panic jumped up and downed a quarter of a bottle of redline. This got me going and I got everything ready, got all cute and adorably gay as could be. I made a quick pit stop at the lovely shell station and picked up another bottle of Redline only the most amazing energy drink ever. It’s like crack in a bottler and will have you thinking you ran down 4th street doing crazy crack head things…whatever those might be, Ya know use your imagination I’m sure if you have half a brain then your a normal functioning human. (It is so difficult to write while not staring at the random people coming in an our of the terminal)

OMG there was a straight up pimp in a pink fur coat with a ginormous Afro and bright pink leather shoes. No joke, this is what I saw right after I got off the bus in the city. So now that I have jumped ahead to arriving I will only briefly touch on how I dozed off and on during the ride down and only drooled on myself once! Read it and weep bitches I only drooled once. That’s right it was a serious accomplishment that most people fight to brag about LOL (ok maybe not, I am guessing most normal people don’t drool all over them selves when they pass out heading to an audition)

Anywho, the audition went great, rather quick though. It was like BAM! pose, pose again…pose..thanks! Wow that was quick and even Cameron got to audition so that would be cool if we got booked for the same job then I would know at least one person on that trip!

Ok I don’t know how long this post will last as my mind is scattered all I wanna do is watch videos of Jenna Marbles. Seriously this girl makes me laugh so hard and i want her face all over my screen. I want to fall asleep to Jenna marbles and wake up to her laughing and telling me funny stories. Good lord I could go on and on and on and on….my thoughts are like half formed right now. Probably from a combination of multiple Red Lines today and tons of coffee ahaha

Well after a nice lunch with Cameron at some random bagel place and him watching me have a caffeine freak out and knock my empty cup all willy nilly. We met up with my mermaid princess ( OMG this stupid metal seat is killing my poor lil gay butt) and her sister Sarah and wandered around San Francisco in a certain part of the city that I can’t remember. That or my mind is far to lazy to just think of it right now…that could be it.

I ate sticky rice tonight….yeah that’s all I am saying. S-t-i-c-k-y R-i-c-e I don’t know why I am so amused by that right now. HAhahahahaha

Ok so there I go again getting all distracted and I don’t know if i am as witty as I usually am and sarcastic or if I have been lacking on that front…well you know what Suck It! If you are not happy with what I write! hahaha

Ok so after Jonathon met us at the thai place where I had Sticky Rice…that made me hoppy hahaha We decided to walk down to this park and my sweet sweet mermaid princess was like oh dahling you have 9 minutes to spare lets go see this glowing tree thingy ma bob…yeah I dont know what it is but it seriously was this giant art structure. Almost like something you would see in art town. Anywho it was glowing blue and inside was a pedestal that had a mirrored table and I swear it looked like people did coke off of it. So apparently they have some weird tree shelter worshipping alter in th emiddle of this aprk where people do coke and then jump on there bikes and whiz in and out of traffic like crazy people. That is why I think those crazies riding bikes think they are gods sna d are untouchable. Guess what sweet riders of two wheelers, cars can run you over. We will do it, Just saying…well maybe cameron wouldn’t seeing as he was the driver, BUT I would!

I lost my train of thought….umm I am about to go on another adventure with my lovely friend Jake. He is taking that bart in to come and visit me and keep me occupied while I am waiting for my bus to come OMG I was telling you how I missed my bus. Well you see Denise decided that since we were only 2 miles away and it would only take 20 mins to get to the bus station then I would be totally fine and we had 9 minutes to spare and we ran off to the playground to climb to the top. Earlier in the day when I passed by there were several kids on top passing an Ipad back and forth, seriously that is just ridiculous.

Anywho we climbed about the jungle gym like little kids while jonathon took many a random photos. So those will be quite interesting to see and I can not wait! Well once we realized that we hardly had any time left we walked to the cars ( Mind we it was a slow walk not like we had anything important to do or any where to be at a certain time) We likened this to if the world was ending we would still be distracted and like ride unicorns or something into the sunset then realize we have 10 minutes to diffuse a massive bomb.

Well me and Cameron the gentlemen that we are walked the girls back to their car with Jonathon and then hugged, snapped some more pictures ( Like I said it’s not like I had to be anywhere important LOL) Then off we hustled to get me downtown in 17 minutes.

Well needless to say we never made it, it took us like 45 minutes to an hr to seriously travel that 2 miles. The last half a mile was ridiculous and we barely moved, but hey that was all part of the adventure that we were on. I finally got to the bus station at 7:05 i believe so almost a full  45 minutes after my bus left lol. Got that all situated and of course mermaid princess came back to see me again and make sure everything was situated for me to transfer on to the next bus that came at 1am.

This now brings you pretty much up to date on what kind of adventure I have been on today and what is going on. Now I am going to stuff my face and then walk a few block down to the embarcadero to meet jake. This time I swear I am not venturing far and I will be on the 1am bus! lol so next time I write for you all I shall be back in the frozen hell we like to call reno. OH and I found a hilarious picture just to make you laugh.

HAHAHAHA this totally describes my mental state and how easily I am amused. Waaaaahhhhh my mind is on an energy freak out! I wanna take a nap now LOL oh and I think i realized I forgot to describe to you what my title meant. Well like it says San Fransisco get your shit together! You got wires crisscrossing over head all the streets for buses to travel on long metal bars. That shit is Not safe! Ok not safe at all! Then you crazy cyclist that weave in an out like you own the streets. Your going to get hit and no one will feel sorry for you because you had it coming. Then some people we have got to work on how you dress, dear lord you have no fashion sense. There was a lot of people who were dressed very very well and I enjoyed looking at all you fashionable fairies.

Well I must go stuff my face with Curry that Mermaid princess was insistent on leaving with me and then more adventure to pass the time. So read and share and read some more and tell people how wonderful my blog is cause I am just flat out amazing bitches. Even Carter Lee thinks so…yeah and I send him porridge for dinner HAHAHA

That would make anyone’s night right? Well lets see I have lollygagged on writing this blog today because I was waiting for something to happen. Well something happened….something terrible…a horrible event happened and I don’t even have words to describe it. Britney spears broke up with her fiance. I know…if only she was like taylor swift that would mean we would get a hit song out of it. Well I guess we may see train wreck pop star come out again (we are all hoping this wont happen seriously people) but the possibility is there.

Wait, what? I got confused on the original train of thought that was going on soooo I jumped off and caught then next one passing by. It seems pretty empty, so time to train hop again from thought to thought! hahaha goodness ok i still need to do my hair, get all fabulous and what not cause Cate Vail will be here in like shit! an hr! Well after that i attempted (Key word there people ATTEMPTED) to take a nap, that did not work out instead i had a PHENOMENAL phone call with Angel Rivera! going over details of the AMAZING things we are doing this year and after that phone call I just couldn’t lay down I was all energized like a freak energizer bunny hopped up on an enormous amount of crack LOL.

Any who it was eventful day with the random freak snow that came out of no where. Seriously isolated snow showers my ass it turned into a white out snow covered ice rink. We slid through a red light as we were coming back from a sushi place that needs to get their communication in order. If i didn’t want to serve there I would put the name. Seriously for me to come all the way down from stead to meet with the manager, an appointment that I had scheduled yesterday..wait for it…..waiiiit for it! Oh look it’s the managers day off and he doesn’t come in until five. Seriously, so annoyed they need better communication and I can help them with that bwhahahaha

Well I finally got my nap in (super exciting part of the day) goodness it was a boring day i guess besides all the exciting news I got and OMG FINALLY I am SOOOO excited!!!! My article the amazing Carter Lee wrote comes out in the Washington Times tomorrow!!! I know I know i have been telling you for the last week that it would be coming out and we ended up pushing it back for several reasons. All to get the most views so finally Saturday is the day! I am sooooo excited!!!! The wait has definitely been worth it and I can not wait to share it with you all

So today I had an amazing shoot with Alina Vincent! Super stoked to go through them all and pick out the ones I like. There is a lot so I have no idea how I am going to choice the perfect ones. Goodness I gave an amazingly strong urge for salsa, AHHHHH why dont we have salsa or the items I would need to make home made salsa! I am hard core craving some and I need to find a way to get it! LOL

No but really I think i have morphed into a Penguin just to be that much more awesome! Its like awesome just runs through my veins haha. Anywho I am starting to babble I literally have only had like 3 maybe 4 hours of sleep and I am running on lets see 4 coffees one from starbucks that had 4 shots of expresso in it. I tried taking a nap and that well didnt work out so well for me. Nope not at all, i slept for like 10 mins while the weather channel played in the background and then woke me up cause it got interesting. HAHAHA

Now I have to tell you I have no idea what the name of this band was, the bar name was old iron side. That I am proud of remembering hahaha, Come on those of you that know me know I can have a horrible memory with names case in point the poor girls from Fine and Funky Boutique. Could not remember their names for the life of me! LOL

Ok anyways back to the band, they were phenomenal and had the crowd rocking out and really engaged them but…..the lead singers hair. I couldn’t stop staring at it, I just wanted to shout out to him “WHY!?!?” Now picture this bleached blond, way to short and just horrible! OMG HORRIBLE! I wanted to just pass off a good stylist name so he could get that done and possibly a personal shopper to get them the right kind of outfits that fit them properly and didn’t look like they stole them from a 17 year old’s closet. These guys had to have been in their 40′s maybe a liltte bit older. Goodness i digress from the originally topic ( you like that nice fancy word i use to make myself sound smart..yeah you know you do ) lol

After the band played we all sat around the table just talking, the different conversations that we had and how we all engaged with one another was a great feeling! I could not have asked for a better night..oh wait it did get better LOL

Christine decided that we should all go down to the gay part of town where all the fabulous people are. Her and steve wanted to pimp me out to random homo’s on the street LOL. While this conversation was happening this aweso0me drag queen came up to tell christine how fabulous her hair was and then hit on steve and call him daddy.

That was great and how he kept apologizing for putting his Cooter in our faces LOL, that was just to much! We all loved it! Michelle over here who was also with us was just a riot in the car, I think i stayed quiet most of the time on the car ride down because I was laughing at the things she was saying and listening to steves epic tales of his life. (seriously this guy is amazingly epic)

So any who i got distracted (SQUIRREL) this was basically the running joke of the night, I am so easily distracted and i swear sometimes it takes me and hr or more just to write my blog cause im bouncing between facebook and then the tv and then my phone Its ridiculous! Some body needs to get me more coffee hahaha

So I think i have lost my self in my babblings again, hmmm lets see drag queen story, Check. Awesome adventure, Check! Oh we got lost as well and michelle has her gps phone privileges taken away after we made this crazy round about circle. OH and gotta love how literally we get off the highway on our exit and steves phone dies and we have no idea where else to go. thank goodness that we ended up on 10th street and the bar was a couple blocks down. Got soo lucky there lol.

You know i try to do things n chronological order but it doesn’t seem to work out very well for me every time that I do try that. I get so lost in the random thoughts (SQUIRREL) that im easily distracted. Oh by the way when we got back to reno at like almost 6 am this morning it was like a wee little blizzard everywhere and we must have gotten 3-4″ of more snow this morning. Thank goodness that Santa Cruz is tomorrow! Ahhh so excited!!! Heading over to Cates house here in a few hours to finish final preparations for tomorrow and shit, I have no idea what accessories i picked out for my outfit.. this is terrible I knew i should have taken pictures of everything together! LOL oh well i may be mixing and matching! Of course it’s impossible to say exactly how many miles this Luthy & Co. bicycle traveled in the century following its sale. We know that it was made between 1892 and 1898, according to The Wheelmen’s list of veteran bicycle brands, and that today Budget Bicycle Center of Madison, Wisconsin, lists the frame on its website and eBay.

So it made it 200 miles from Peoria to Madison, though doubtfully under the power of its owner, either original or subsequent.

We also know this was more than just another black bicycle. Note the painterly touches ahead of the collet-style seatpost–just a sample of the artistry in evidence elsewhere.

Also, while most of this bicycle has been lost to time, it retains perhaps its single-most important distinguishing feature, an ornate head badge that reads:

In Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” the king of the fairies is Oberon, boss of the error-prone Puck. At the end of the play, Puck, having earlier failed to follow Oberon’s instructions, explains to a pair of lovers the misapplication of a potion:

If we shadows have offended,
Think but this, and all is mended,
That you have but slumber’d here
While these visions did appear.

Today, our mechanical Oberon is the boss of no one, and he slumbers 200 miles away from home. If possession by another is what passes for love in these matters, we are left with but one question.

Who will wake the king?

«ALfheim Online» (アルヴヘイム・オンライン Aruvuheimu onrain^?) is the VRMMORPG successor to «Sword Art Online». It is compatible with any version of the FullDive technology. The game features multiple races of fairies, whose goals are to reach the top of the giant tree Ygddrasil in order to meet the Fairy King Oberon. It was said that Oberon will grant the chosen race the ability to fly indefinitely once this goal is achieved.

It is the setting for volumes 3-4 Fairy Dance. Instead of the level system that SAO emphasized ALO pursues skill development and encourages killing other players.

System

ALO is made from the same system as SAO. The entire game is monitored and maintained by a system called «Cardinal» which self corrects any problems and creates its own quests. Unlike SAO it also uses magic and disregards the leveling system, making it completely dependent on skill.

The ALO attack formula is not complicated. It depends on four things: Power of the weapon itself, where on the opponent’s body the attack hits; attack speed; and the armor worn by the opponent.

After the events of Fairy Dance, a company named Ymir bought the servers and included a major update which added the Floating Castle Aincrad to the system.

Until the Aincrad update, most players in ALO do not have a defined fighting style.

The unassuming Faerie King chose neither pomp nor circus for his final resting place.

With his last ounce of magic, he constructed a modest, wooden headstone which served as a beacon for lost travelers in the Ferocious Forest.

This ritual was different.  This was our first ritual where we had children participate in our celebrations.  Three families were able to bring their ten children, ranging in age from nine months to fifteen years.

To purify we did the good ‘ole Reclaiming-style Auric Car Wash.  Some of the kids enjoyed going through dancing like the Solid Gold Dancers.  We did a simple tree grounding encouraging us all to be the trees that surrounded us.  Then each of us stepped one-by-one into the center and said, “I am the God/dess (insert your name here).”  To which everyone else responded by saying, “Welcome (name), together we form a strong circle.”  Our circle was cast and we were between the worlds.

The children called in the directions by whistling bird song as turtle doves flew across the yard, shaking fiery fingers, squirting a bit of water across the circle, stomping to call the earth alive and swirling them all together in the center.

We invoked the Fairy Queen and King with offerings of cream and honey and with these words:

Over hill, over dale
Through brush, through brier
Over park, over pale
Through flood, through fire
We welcome the fairy queen
As she dews her orbs upon the green
The cowslips tall her pensioners be
In their gold coats spots you see
Those be rubies, fairy favors
In those freckles live their savours
Her charges seek some dewdrops here
And hang a pearl in every cowslips ear
Tonight we give thanks for the gifts of the sun
And remember a time when all the realms were one.

Now, until the break of day
Through this house each fairy stray
With this field-dew consecrate
Every fairy take his gait
And each several chamber bless
Through this palace, with sweet peace
Ever shall in safety rest
And the owner of it blest
And those fairies, that do run
By the triple Hecate’s team
From the presence of the sun
Following darkness like a dream
Now are frolic: not a mouse
Shall disturb this hallow’d house

Then the story was told:

There was a time long ago when we as humans could talk to all the beings in all the realms: rocks, plants, animals and the fairy folk.  We listened.  We shared gifts.  We worshiped together.  Over time, we humans lost that ability.  However, today we can invite the fae ones to help us open again to that power – the power of our ancestors and the ability to communicate amongst the many realms.  This is the way that we take our gifts and give them away.  This is the power of our ancestors: to take the gift, bless it, love it; and give it away.

Taking the gift of the pine cone, we said “Thank you,” to the tree.  We added our own energy by slathering on peanut butter and dosing the pine cones in birdseed.  Adding the decorated pine cones to our altar, we blessed them with our wishes.  Then we charged them with toning and singing The Give Away Song, written by Anne Hill for Circle Round and Sing:

We had a great barbeque.  Many special side dishes, and even s’mores, were made and eaten.  Although some of us went for straight chocolate!  The eldest and youngest participants blessed the meal.

As the fireflies began to emerge, we bid farewell to the Fairy Queen and King and burned sparklers while singing good-bye to the Elements.   We opened our circle with a fae inspired call and response:

Robin Hood, Robin Good,
Son of the Art, heart of the Art, 
All from air into air
Let the misty curtains part.
All is over, all is done;
What has been must now be gone;
What was done by ancient Art
Must merry meet
And merry part.

A lovely midsummer ritual was done and all the worlds have been changed.

The Plan: Children are welcome at this ritual.  The kids will ground, cast the circle, and call the directions.

We will call the Fairy Queen and Fairy King.  Then one member will tell a story.

After the story, we will create gifts for wildlife by spreading peanut butter and bird seed on pine cones and other natural objects. We will gather these on the altar and raise energy by dancing around them, singing the Giving Song.

Let us take what we have been given 3x
Let us take it and give it away.

Let us bless what we have been given 3x
Let us bless it and give it away.

Let us hold what we have been given 3x
Let us hold it and give it away.

Let us love what we have been given 3x

Once the altar objects have been charged, we will distribute some around the area. Some will be left for people to take home after the ritual.

We will prepare food on the BBQ and feast, with the oldest and the youngest among us blessing the food.

We will devoke and open the circle.

To bring: Some protein to cook on the grill (preferably something fairly quick and easy, like hot dogs/burgers/veggie hotdogs or burgers) and a side dish or dessert to share; bug spray; and lawn chairs.

I was so pleased when my friend, Carol, called me to ask if I wanted to go to the faire with her. Of course my answer was, YES! By the way, she got a great 2 for 1 deal on Groupon.  

So I shook the moths out of my old costumes, I couldn’t believe that I found one that fit, and we headed out to the Santa Fe Dam Recreation area here in sunny So. Cal. The site, located next to a lake was ideal and the weather was perfect, though the threat of rain served to discourage a large crowd. I couldn’t have been happier about that, seeing there were no lines to swelter in at the food court.

It was easy pickin’ ordering Turkey Legs and Baked Potatoes. Too bad I didn’t think to question the ingredients that went into the potato toppings I had added. Within the hour I was forced to park myself  in the “Privy”, suffering from a reaction to gluten.

Ah! When am I going to learn.

But, I was not going to be waylaid by a cheese spread. Determined to ignore the excruciating intestinal cramping, I cowgirled up and made my way to the nearest stage. That is where I was treated to the musical styling of Circa Paleo and the gifted violinist, Jenny O’ Connor. Her stage presence along with her tremendous talent had me mesmerized.

Now that I’ve found them through Goggle, I’ll be purchasing one of their CD’s.

Then we were off  to see the Clan MacColin Irish Dancers from the Guild of St Andrew.  Everyone Dances in this troupe including the musicians. 

“Make way for the Queen!” and her procession. Which we did as we were making our way to the Joust. Perhaps if we had made it to the 3:00 show instead of the 5:00 we might have seen more jousting and less rolling in the dirt. I’ve seen better, but not in a long while so I won’t complain…, much.

What I hadn’t seen before were the aerialist. Suspended Reality preformed in the fashion of story telling  with the tale of Oberon the Fairy King’s search for his Queen.

Love to show you more pictures but due to the constraints of this blog I can’t easily load them without screwing  up what I’ve already done. So, let me close by saying that despite tummy trouble, I had a great time and look forward to next year’s faire.

Baby robin falls out of nest

I feel like there’s way too much to talk about tonight.  Where to even begin?  First of all, it’s my six month anniversary “Opening the door, walking outside”.  Six months!  Who could believe it would pass so quickly? 

The memory of those -13 below zero afternoons already seems hazy.  Like, did that really happen?  And was it really that hard?  All those frigid winter days when it seemed so difficult to imagine going outside…but when one dressed warmly and went outside…it was almost fun.  Or that freezing cold rain in Munising after 9 p.m. a week or so ago.  Was it really that bad?  No.  In truth, it proved almost invigorating.  It’s only our minds which try to convince us it’s too much.

OK, let’s move on to the first photo.  Remember the robin photo from the other day?  Yesterday one of the babies fell out of the nest onto the hard cement floor in front of the garage.  We think it lived, however.  For about an hour it sat very still and panted in the bright sunlight.  Then it hopped over to the shade.  And finally it was gone.  Along with all the other robins in the nest (except for one, who still remains).

Last night we went to the airport to pick up our son and his girlfriend.  While we waited for him, Barry and I wandered along the harbor.  A very fun evening.  As we reached home, and took the above photo overlooking Keweenaw Bay, both kids expressed amazement at the late hour of sunset.  It’s true.  During summer solstice it doesn’t get dark in Upper Michigan until 10:50 p.m.  And our son lay awake at 5 a.m. in the light and…are you ready for this?…the pecking robin on his basement window!!!  Yes, our beloved robin hath returned to peck.  Barry’s putting a piece of plywood over the window later tonight.

So anyway.  On to the Fairy King story.  I know some of you are waiting impatiently.  One of our regular bloggers, flandrumhill, announced a few weeks ago an ancient legend that if you wait beneath an elder tree at midnight on Midsummer’s Eve one would meet the Fairy King.  Of course, doesn’t that sound intriguing?  Who among us wouldn’t anticipate a meeting with the Fairy King? 

Of course the problem with this is that I always go to bed around 10 p.m.  Bedtime is more important than meeting with fairies, right?  Except.  Last night we were meeting the kids at the airport and we didn’t arrive home until after 11 p.m. and we sat around the living room chatting.  Suddenly it was 11:50 and I’m yawning and ready for bed, when suddenly Barry said, “C’mon now, aren’t you going outside to sit under that elder?”  WHAT?  Do I really have to?

So off I went, with flashlight in hand, at 11:50.  Totally exhausted.  (Not really expecting to meet the Fairy King, but curious what it’s like after dark outside.  Would I be afraid?  Would the bears come by?  Would the mosquitoes lunch on the human beneath the elder tree?)

This is what it’s like at midnight, in the dark of the moon, sitting beneath an elder tree, on Midsummer’s Eve.  First, fireflies flit everywhere.  Little blinks of lights shining on and off.  The scent of blossoms enchants the air.  It’s warm, even at midnight, although you need a sweatshirt.  It’s so dark you can’t see the tree itself, although you know it’s there, having maneuvered here via a flashlight.  In the distance an owl hoots, “Who cooks for you?  Who cooks for you?”  You listen for coyotes, but none begin their mournful howling.  You heard them the other morning, so you barely notice.

And then.  The mosquitoes start humming.  At first they simply hum.  You smile, because you’re almost completely covered.  You’re happy watching the fireflies and distantly thinking about the Fairy King and hearing the kids laugh in the distance as they marvel over the sprawl of stars in the sky.  Then the mosquitoes start biting.  Bite, bite, bite.  Slap, slap, slap!!  You think, “Well, I hope the Fairy King isn’t coming disguised as a Mosquito, because I’m out of here!”

And after seven, or maybe seventeen minutes, you bolt for the house, smiling.  Happy for another strange outdoor experience.  But really glad to be anticipating a warm and cozy bed.

This pedigree is pretty straight forward. Especially for something I came up with. It’s just Northern Dancer over Raise A Native, with some Seattle Slew thrown in. So, I don’t really need to talk about it. But I’m going to rattle on anyway.

Globetrotter Falbrav is a favorite of mine. I loved watching him run. The way he would flip his forefeet out in front of him as he bowled along. Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. And what better race record could you wish for? Eight Group 1 wins in five countries on two continents. And he was a head short of a ninth in yet another country on yet another continent in his third place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Turf (behind the dead-heating High Chaparral and Johar). Sent to stud in Japan, he’s hopefully nicking well with all of those Sunday Silence mares.

Alysheba was supposed to be the next great stallion upon his retirement. But, as it was for so many sons of Alydar, he didn’t live up to expectations. In fact, he was downright disappointing, with only 16 stakes winners in 13 crops. Two of those were champions (in Canada and Switzerland). But he is doing better as a broodmare sire. Forty-eight of his grandfoals are stakes winners, headed by champions Bullish Luck, Grandera, George Washington, Vespone, Bright Sky, and Vendangeur. There’s some damn nice horses on that list, aren’t there? Wouldn’t mind it if my little Philter could be as good as them.

What do these two have in common? They’re two of the toughest high-class sons of their leading sire sires. Twenty-six starts each. And they both retired sound. That’s what I want to see!

Well, I don’t really know that much about Final Straw. But he is a grandson of Forli, which gave me the sex-balanced 5×5 inbreeding to that horse I was looking for.

The only other inbreeding here to be seen is a 5×5 doubling of Native Dancer. I can live with that.

A philter is a love potion. I just thought it was a neat word. *shrug* I can’t be clever all the time.

               Morgan Sparks has always known that she and her boyfriend, Cam, are made for each other. They’re next-door neighbors and have been friends practically since birth. They tell each other everything, and are totally hot for each other.
            But suddenly, a week before their joint Sweet Sixteen party, Cam starts acting distant. His mysterious and awkward cousin, Pip, comes to stay with the family. But now the fairies want Cam back to take his rightful place as Fairy King.
            There’s no way Morgan is going to let this happen. As Cam begins to physically change, Morgan becomes determined to fool the fairies so that she and Cam can stay together forever. Soon she has to decide once and for all whether their love can weather an uncertain future.

Hi Cyn! Thanks for doing this. This is such an exciting time for you and I’m excited to get to have you on Fumbling with Fiction! As I understand it, Fairy Lust is your debut novel, can you give us a little statistical rundown on how long it took you to get to this point? How many books? How many rejections? How many days, months, or years?

I knew I wanted to be a writer very young– almost from the moment I learned to write.  However when I got to college I was really daunted by the statistics about how improbable it is to make a living off of writing fiction, so I actually attempted to give it up to have a “real” career in marketing– and succeeded for almost 15 years.  But after awhile I couldn’t ignore it anymore, so I wrote my first book, which landed me an agent fairly easily.  It didn’t sell, but eventually I began to work on another idea– Fairy Lust, which sold.  So I guess you can say the journey has been pretty long– it’s been decades since I first decided I wanted to be a writer!
 
 
Which “Call” thrilled you more? The call in which you landed an agent or the call in which you landed your book deal? Can you describe to us what it felt like?

Definitely the call where I got my book deal!  It came completely out of the blue!  My book had been on submission for six weeks, and I was under the impression that if my book was going to sell well, the second my agent unleashed it upon the publishing world, offers were going to come in.  Didn’t happen.  I had just resigned myself to picking up a new idea and starting over, as painful as that was, because ANOTHER one of my books was going to be shelved.  And then suddenly, I got a call from my agent.  She told me that Delacorte loved it.  I thought, “Well, that’s good news, so now they need to go through meetings and a bunch of other hoops, and then maybe it will sell . . .” and that’s when she told me they’d offered a pre-empt.  I was at work and started screaming and crying, which is, of course, a very professional thing to do.
 
 
 
I love seeing authors succeed like that! Throughout your journey as a writer, what resources have you found most valuable to your success? Websites? Books? Conferences?

Since I started writing, I don’t think I have made it through a day without checking Verla’s boards, the Absolute Write Boards, and my LiveJournal.  I have so many writer friends on all those sites that “get it”, more than any of my family or friends, who still seem to think that since I write YA, I must be best friends with the only other YA writers out there, J.K. Rowling and Stephenie Meyer.  The writers I have met online are so supportive and encouraging, I love sharing my problems and successes with all of them because they know what I’m going through.  Two of my best friends, Mandy Hubbard (Prada & Prejudice, Razorbill, 2009), and Brooke Taylor (Undone, Walker, 2008), were met online years ago, before any of us had agents or book contracts . . . I honestly don’t think FAIRY LUST would exist without them and the online community of writers. 
 

I love how you talk about making your “writer friends” online and elsewhere. I’m just starting to make some similar bonds and I think it would be so neat to see some of these aspiring writers succeed and I value their support already. Thanks for reminding us how important those relationships are. On your blog, you have something called the “ABCs of Writing.” Can you tell us a little bit about what that entails?

Mandy Hubbard lives on the West Coast and I live on the East Coast, and so we email back and forth constantly.  We both love the Greens’ Brotherhood vlog series, and wanted to learn how to vlog.  So we decided that we would do a really goofy vlog series, all about our experiences as writers.  We started with a topic beginning with the letter A, and we alternate every couple of weeks.  Mandy did a really cute one for the letter “C” because it was right after she got “The Call” that Prada & Prejudice was going to be published.  We don’t do anything flashy because we’re complete amateurs, we’re just acting goofy, trying to have fun.  But maybe somewhere, buried in there, might be some helpful advice for aspiring writers.
 

Too funny! Can you tell us a little about your writing schedule and where you do most of your writing?

I have a full-time job which requires me to be active (I manage the events for fitness magazines) so in between dealing with my job schedule, working out, and my family (I have a toddler) . . . I get maybe 19 minutes during my lunch hour?  And sometimes my very supportive family will leave me alone for a few hours on the weekends.  When you have such a rigid schedule, you really start to value and make the most of your writing time.  I used to have a lot more time for writing, and I wasted it!
 

We all know that writers go through hard times on their way to success. How have you handled rejection in the past?

I mope.  Seriously, it’s okay to mope for a day or two, eat a pint of ice-cream, whatever.  But then you pick yourself up and get moving again.  I think I hit one of my biggest lows after my first novel didn’t sell, and I wrote a second novel, which I excitedly sent to my agent and got a “meh” response.  I had shelves of novels, months and years of blood, sweat, and tears, and nobody in NYC wanted them!  I was so frustrated, and I contemplated giving up writing.  And then I remembered that I had tried that, so many years ago, and it didn’t work.  Writing– not to sell, but just for fun– is like my salvation.  Writing gives me a high unlike anything I’ve every experienced before– my fingers itch to be at the keyboard when I’m away.  So I told myself that I would just keep writing, and not worry about selling.   And then, of course, I sold.  It was like that old adage they tell you about finding a relationship…. when you’re not looking, THAT’s when you find it.
 

I like your honesty and think you are right on the mark. On a happier note, now that you are a soon-to-be-published author, seeing the view from the other side, what has most surprised you about the publishing process?

I was floored to learn how much work manuscripts go through, even after they’ve been bought.  I thought editors only bought manuscripts that were just about perfect.  If it needed more than a little work, they’d pass.  Not true.  Some of my friends had dozens of pages of changes to make on their manuscripts, and multiple rounds of revisions. Editors don’t just sit there, reading stacks for manuscripts and saying “yes” or “no.”  They, and the copyeditors, are pretty much geniuses.    
 

I always ask this question of interviewees, so I hope you’ve been thinking on it. If you could have written one book previously published by another author, which book would it be?

Actually, there are many books out there that I wish I could have written, anything by M.T. Anderson because I have no idea how he manages to get in his character’s heads so completely and so convincingly.  And it’s funny, a year or two ago, I’d written four or five chapters of a book about the zombie apocalypse, based on a dream I’d had, since I am a huge fan of zombies.  Then, I gave it up to write FAIRY LUST.  And I am so glad that I never attempted to finish it because it would have paled drastically in comparison to Carrie Ryan’s THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH.  

Oh! I have so been wanting to read Carrie Ryan’s book. Thanks for reminding me.

Status: First day of law school orientation complete! I read The Appeal by John Grisham for today and had a book discussion, so I will be reviewing that on Saturday if y’all are interested. Other than that I’m still playing the waiting game, but will be working on taking my own advice from yesterday and not wasting time that I could be writing!
