Another computer-unrelated post.

The reason I’ve been in Manchester for the past week or so, is for my love of live music. You don’t really get that in the North of Devon as such, and if you do, then it’s usually some form of low-key entertainment – possibly good, but no reason to travel down the road for (bearing in mind the road is a good 2km or so).

So I’ve already been to see Faithless at the Warehouse Project last weekend (rather disappointing I admit, but I got tickets for free), and a small band from Sheffield by the name of 65DaysOfStatic (absolutely amazing).

But the main act was tonight, and he’s a Japanese pianist, by the name of Ryuichi Sakamoto. Seeing him at the Bridgewater Hall is one day I will always remember.  The acoustics were brilliant, and the stage decorated with a large projection screen providing visual entertainment, is just a highlight of many.  As for Sakamoto himself, he was flawless.

If you don’t understand the pure beauty of the this track, then I pity you, I do.

Hace nada salía ese “Sun To Me” que es el tema presentación de su próximo álbum que se llamará “Calling All The Faithfull”, y que sin ser nada del otro mundo, al menos me permitía hablar de ellos por primera vez desde que tengo el blog. Ahora el brasileño Gui Boratto les hace una mezcla de seis minutazos (uf), y como ya hizo con Pet Shop Boys, el señor Boratto se lanza al chill hipnótico para que el tema pueda estar en todos los recopilatorios made in Ibiza que quedan por venir.

Each time it happens, it buries me deeper inside. The urge and will to lose that tender part of me is strong and urgent. How I wish the inner strength in me is as strong as my 牛力 that everyone sees on the outside. As much as I want to believe in this tingling romance that I see couples rave about, I can’t seem to find the strength to pick myself up in this non-existent fairytale of love.

I’m only 22 and many will ask if it is a little too early for me to make any judgment on this.

With all the nonsense that I’ve been through as a young girl, I feel like a 30 yr old. Sick and tired, faithless, hopeless. And this is not the desperate side of me speaking. If I were to be desperate, I would have jumped at multiple opportunities long time ago. As I look back at the past and present, I see myself withdrawing as they press in.

How much does it take for me to believe again?

Maybe someday, we’ll figure all this out.

There are times when the Christian walk is a little tougher than others and I am no stranger to those times, but, and this is definitely with the benefit of hindsight, God has sustained me and brought me through those times. He must have done, I’m still here and I’m still seeking to serve him and am currently (if in varying degrees) excited about doing so.

What has been helpful though, is being released from a burden of thinking my walk with God had to look a certain way all the time; quiet times, much sit down hands together prayer, loud singing, hands up in worship, continual conversation about Jesus, angerlessnessness… These are good things and there are times to pursue these things, but God’s primary call to us is to be. First and foremost we’re human beings not human doings. Our responses to God and his love, must be that, responses, not shouts for Him to notice us, because he already has, more than we know.

I’ve found in the difficult times, when I let myself off the hook to just be who I am, but invite God into the midst of it, that there is movement, spiritual movement. Not always instantaneous, but often so. God begins to water seeds of hope and joy in my life and there are glimpses of God’s grace dotted through the battlefield. He’s a God who is absolutely into the idea of being right there alongside us when all we want to do is have a cry or a shout at Him, God longs for relationship with us and because of Jesus, he’ll take that in whatever format that comes. God desires to see the real us, always, and the best way to find God in the tough stuff is to let Him in.

Faitless are back! The british electronic band will release a new single and a new album soon. The single is called “Sun To Me”, a great dance track in Faithless style and there is an unofficial video circulating at the moment. The new album will be out in 2010.

The band has been in the music scene since 1995 and band members are Maxi Jazz, Sister Bliss and Rollo. They are most famous for their massive hit singles “Insomnia” and “God Is A DJ”.  They released 5 albums so far and people are waiting for new material for 3 years now.  You`ll find more information on the new stuff on their website in November, where you can get a free download of the new song. The band is on tour in the UK in November.

Con Faithless hace mucho tiempo que tengo una relación de amor incondicional, y además pienso que están infravaloradísimos ya que tienen un carrerón más que coherente, con bastantes discazos en su dicografía, y una colección de clásicos que ya les gustaría a muchos. Eso de haberles pinchado mucho en discotecas bakalas, ha hecho que gran parte del moderneo les tenga apartados, pero ellos se lo pierden. Además, doy fe que tienen uno de los mejores directos que te puedes encontrar en un grupo de electrónica (con permiso de Daft Punk, vale), porqué lo que vimos en el Weekendance del 2007 aún está en la memoria de todos los que asistimos. Dicho eso, hace casi tres semanas que estoy enganchadísimo a una mezcla que le hizo hace casi un año Mark Knight a Faithless para el tema “Music Matters” de su último disco “To All New Arrivals” y lo curioso de esto es que lo encontré de casualidad en el recopilatorio anual de Pacha (sí). Bueno, pues toda esa chapa, para introducir un tema llamado “Sun To Me” que probablemente estará en el próximo disco de Faithless, que se llamará “Calling All The Faithful” y que se supone saldrá el próximo año. El vídeo no es oficial, pero solo con poder escuchar a Maxi Jazz, casi que da igual…..

Do you believe in God?

It’s a question that we hear regularly.  And when someone says yes, my immediate response is always ‘why’?  That may sound cynical.  And there may be some truth to that.  Mostly, I’m always curious why people believe.

My answer would be ‘no’.  I’ll call it a qualified ‘no’ simply because I have to allow for the possibility of some superior being/race that may influence things here on earth.  But that is doubtful at best.

This commentary is not meant as a detraction, insult, negative towards people who believe.  I’m just always curious what drives belief.  It really doesn’t matter what faith you practice.  The belief in a God directing our lives always raises questions.  I’ll stick with what’s familiar to me: Christianity.  I use this as a reference point only.

So what is faith?  Why do people believe?  And is there something more underneath?

Faith is belief is something or someone.  Religious faith is belief in God and/or Jesus.  It has a base definition of the acceptance that the bible contains the Word of God, that Jesus is God’s son and that he died on the cross for our sins and opened the door for us for eternal life.  That said, humans are humans.  We may believe all of it, some of it, none of it.  God’s free will, if you will.

Churches of all sorts have appeared over the centuries, espousing all sorts of interpretations of both God’s Word and God’s Will.  There are churches that follow good purpose and use love as a basis for living.  Others look for control of the masses.  Other’s want political power.  Many are simply there for the Benjamins baby!  That means means money if you don’t get that!

I won’t go through the reasons I don’t believe.  I’ve stated some before.  I may state some later.  This isn’t about a debate of the validity of the Christian persepctive.

Common themes appear through most religions.  Love, caring for others, caring for the poor, respect, fairness.  People with absolute beliefs feel anyone who doesn’t believe in God doesn’t believe in these concepts.  The problem of course?  With the exception of radical elements, don’t we all believe in those concepts?  They are as old as humanity itself.

If you believe that I don’t have faith because I don’t believe in God, you are mistaken.  My faith is in humanity.  A wise man I know who believes in God suggested that man is prone to err as we discussed this very topic in the middle of my writing this.  And as individuals, we are all prone to be, shall we say, ‘human’.  But for me, the goals of humanity, the common goals and truths of humans as a whole, are exactly the same.  Call it basic rights.  Call it human rights.  Call it what you want.

Jesus does not have the market cornered on these concepts.  They are as old as man and older than Christianity.  Jesus did a nice job of showing the way.  Too bad so many have abused those ideals to the point where Jesus is as divisive to many as he is as a uniter.

So as much as I can be a belligerent towards belief (more like religion really), I have to say that after much discussion, much negativity and much introspection, the reality is that, at the heart of it all, our goals are all the same.  The community of man.

If you believe in God and that brings you to help others, accept all, respect all and bring hope to those you interact with, we are on the same page.  If I am doing all those things, the only difference is sourcing.  I don’t need God or Jesus to tell me what’s right.  For me, so much of this is just a given.  At the same time, how can I argue these points with you if you believe and follow the same thing?

We are more alike than many would have us believe.  We all want peace.  We all want love.  We all want respect.  And we should all do what we can to help others reach those same goals.  Life, health, giving, love.

Love is the beginning and the end and everything in between to me.  And for others, if I say God is love?  God is the beginning and the end and everything in between for them.  What’s the difference other than semantics and some concepts I won’t argue here.

We are the same.  Spread the word.  Too many have forgotten.

Mr. Panda and I share so many common traits and values. Even our likes and dislikes are similar. We especially have the same taste in music.  

And we both HEART Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, last heard in “Shrek”. We especially heart the version sung by Kate Voegel here. It’s AMAZING!

But being Christians, we were both a bit dismayed at the total bleakness of the lyrics. Unless you read it carefully, most people would just remember the “Hallelujah” in the chorus bit. But if you pay attention to the lyrics, they look like the desperate words of a person who had lost his faith.

So my clever, gifted, passionate, artistic & faithful Mr. Panda decided to reclaim this gem of a song for the Lord. And changed the lyrics completely!

Why am I writing this on a wedding blog, you ask. Well it’s simple, really.

We are Christians first, pandas second, and prospective marriage partners third. Our devotion will always be to God first and foremost. He is the First Person in our three-person covenant. He is the head, the Big Brother, the Father, the hand that holds fast to us, when the seas are rocky and the storm is all around, He is the Love that will bind our hearts together, when we are unloveable, unloving, or feel unloved. He is the glue in our relationship, the purpose in our lives, the lover of our souls, the friend we walk with day by day. Wherever we go, it will never be as lone lamb, but as a pack of threes.  

Now THAT’s my picture of a perfect marriage.

After a rather long and draining but equally enjoyable weekend i find myself feeling very tired but unable to fall asleep. I  ended up nodding off for about ten minutes earlier on tonight and felt like shit after it, now i can’t get to sleep at all. The weekend involved a slightly insane jaunt through to Stirling, a night out in the ghost town known as Paisley and a Sunday that seemed to last forever. I’ve only had around about 16 hours sleep since 6am on Friday, the tiredness had been there since last midweek anyway but now its finally caught up with me. In fact it’s more than caught up with me, it’s overtaken me and leaving me behind, it’s heading off into the distance faster than Usain Bolt on steroids. Even my usual method of listening to some Boards of Canada or The Album Leaf in the dark isn’t working. Anyways, in a rather ironic twist (and while i’m still awake) i’ve decided to make a list of SleepyTime themed songs that i have….
