Abcdario uma vez me corrigiu por perguntar no “introdução aos Memes” quem conhecia o Triforce. XD Claro que é pra todos os bons gamers conhecerem, mas eu tenho que perguntar pra quem não conhece né. Tipo, o pessoal que não foi educado com Nintendo, e o pessoal que conheceu os games só com o Wii jogando Wii Sports. ^^ Então vou explicar, claro, também o que é o Falcon Punch.

Esse é o golpe especial criado para o Capitão Falcon [piloto principal do jogo de corrida F-Zero] para ser usado no jogo de luta “Super Smash Bros.” pra Nintendo SIXTYFOOOOOOOOOOURRRR. Ele é amplamente usado em vários sites de discussões como sinônimo de “pwnadge” [que antes era ownadge]. Tá, que porra é essa que você tá falando? Um cara ownado é alguém que foi dominado, humilhado, dominado, detonado, derrotado, na internet por algum motivo. Se eu chegasse aqui e dissesse pra vocês que a Nintendo é uma bosta, aí um monte de leitores começam a aparecer e dizer o quanto eu to errado, e mostrar provas, e fazer piadas, ou mesmo se um único sujeito aparecer e dizer alguma coisa que me deixe com a cara na lama…. Bem aí eu fui ownado. XD

Então quando um cara é ownado na net você pode dizer que ele levou um Falcon Punch na cara. Até porque esse golpe é um dos mais ignorantes que tem. É forte pra caramba, mas o capitão nem concentra força pra fazer ele, e geralmente manda o cara longe. É tão forte quanto o tiro concentrado da Samus, ou o Socão concentrado do Donkey Kong, mas a questão é que ele não concentra. Pra deixar o sujeito com a cara ainda mais no chão, a frase de chamar do capitão é “Show me Your Moves” [Mostre-me seus movimentos]. Porra, ele tá te desafiando, você não consegue derrotá-lo, e leva um Falcon Punch na cara. ^^ Dizem também que o Falcon Punch é a melhor maneira de fazer abortos. XD

I know it’s nice to be a meter away from your favourite band/that-band-you’ve-been-a-fan-of-since-they-became-commercial-and-then-went-back-and-got-all-their-old-GOOD-music-and-claim-they’ve-always-been-your-favourite-band, but for for some reason it really pisses me off when you go to a gig, and the fence separating you from a big man in black with sunglasses who gets paid to hurt people, is populated by an army of young girls. Like I guess it’s cool if it’s Jack Johnson or some other homosexual (no offence homosexuals) singer/band, but I get super annoyed when you go to a punk gig and it happens right infront of the pit. Then the girls get bleak when a swirling mass of sweaty men bump into them. I think they need to, in the most impolite sense possible, fuck off.

Oh, I went camping this weekend, it was rad, on the second night some guy tried to convince us all to join the Free Masons as he was a free mason/hair dresser/magician. oh yes. He mentioned the building where they had their meetings was 35 Hunt Road, later on in the night it changed to 25 Hunt Road. He also explained that there are 3 levels of free masonry, the 3rd level has 33 levels in it and you jump from 3 to 18 or something, he also said he was level 4. haha. oh, and that it’s not a secret society, but it does have secrets. He could tell us anything we wanted to know…just not some things haha! Yeah that was crazy, fun weekend overall.

Tonight is the night the Springfield Music Scene brings together a wide variety of genres under one roof (Remmington’s Downtown) for the sake of, well, just showing it can be done. Roots Of Mankind, Queen City Saints,  Jam Room, The Spacetones, Falcon Punch, We Voyagers and Only the Brave will all grace the stage tonight, with an added plus: The show also marks the release party for Roots Of Mankind’s new album, Pangaea. While we can’t definitively say a show such as this has never happened before, we can say having this many music styles (as many as six, by our count) under one roof for one show has never happened in our memory. Watch for a gi-normous crowd–hopefully staying through the whole show–and a positive, even festive mood throughout the room.

Ah, but if you’re like us, you like to travel around a bit. Well, have we got a lineup for you:

* Holstein and Truett & The Traitors at Lindberg’s. Tonight marks the CD release party for Holstein’s newest album, Blood On James River, a mean mini-riot of a rock album. Good God, we just used alliteration… moving on. If you haven’t heard the album yet, you’re in luck; the band will be playing the whole thing from start to finish to kick off its headlining set. Also, watch for two clothing themes in the crowd: superhero costumes (encouraged) and red-and-black combinations (accepted if you, say, lost your cape in the woodchipper).

* Scarswillfade, The Final Piece, Assembly Line Gods and Knife*Death at Nathan P. Murphy’s. This show marks Scarswillfade’s reunion, which is exciting news in the local metal scene.

* Glass Bottom Boat Ride, Goodtime Engineers, The Secret and This Night Is Forever at The Outland Ballroom. Tonight is the second try for GBBR’s concert-film DVD taping after data corruption cost them the sound from the first one. They couldn’t have picked a better lineup to regroup with; every band playing tonight is top-notch.

* Underground Blues Division and Matthew Darkly at The Outland

* Ryan Shiel and Slippy LaRue at Patton Alley Pub

* Full Moon Blues at Archie’s Lounge

* The Lowdown Fancy at Galloway Station

* Rick Shortt & Hotbox at Three 20’s

Tonight marks the last concert at The Warehouse (728 W. Wall St.) for a while, we’re told, and those in charge of it are sending it on to hiatus in style. For the room’s goodbye-for-now sendoff, The Short Histories of Powerful Nations host their CD release show in the room with Falcon Punch, Colorado group runfasterscared, Jazzercise, Glass Bottom Boat Ride and Kudzu. Music begins at 9, but there will be a pre-show barbecue with the bands starting at 7. There is no official cover charge, but a donation is suggested for runfasterscared to help with the cost of their travel to and from Springfield.

* We just learned about this one: Some (repeat, some, and we have not been able to get confirmation as to which) members of The Ozark Mountain Daredevils will be playing at Bugsy Malone’s tonight. Apparently, Springfield Fire Chief Barry Rowell is holding his retirement party at the fireman-themed downtown spot from 8 to 10 p.m. and asked (some of) the Daredevils to play the party for him. They agreed, and though the chief’s party is private, Bugsy’s owner Wayna Dean tells us the band has agreed to keep playing after the doors open to the public at 10. Neat, eh?

* Tiffany Christopher and Reeling Gilly at Patton Alley Pub. TC will be performing with special guests Beto Moreno from St. Louis group Madahoochi and Tony Antonelli, formerly of The Schwag.

* The Cropdusters and Ghostdance at Lindberg’s

* Han Trio and Gas Pump Talent at The High Life Live Martini Lounge. Let’s talk Han Trio for a minute. We don’t habitually chat a lot about cover bands–the music speaks for itself, if you know what we mean–but this idea intrigues us. Shawn Eckels (guitar) and Reed Herron (bass) of Speakeasy team up with John Anderson of about a zillion bands (drums) to form a group playing nothing but songs from famous musical trios such as Cream, The Police, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and more. Suppose there’s any chance we’ll get to hear this song?

* Trash Angels at Roadhouse Saloon

* Punk night at The Outland Ballroom with The Results, The Reacharounds, The Dead Aheads and My Wasted Life

It’s okay; our heads are spinning, too. When The Short Histories of Powerful Nations released the list of bands joining them for their CD release party Friday, June 19, the group included Falcon Punch, runfasterscared and Jazzercise. Fellow local hard-rock group Glass Bottom Boat Ride was mentioned, too. First, we were told they might play, then that they would play, then that they wouldn’t play… Now, once again, the band is on the show lineup. Apparently, GBBR put playing ahead of its schedule issues (some of the members are supposed to work that night) and, as a result, the show lineup is back up to five acts. Make that six; local group Kudzu is now on the lineup, as well. Hopefully all six bands wind up taking the stage Friday night at The Warehouse. We’re running out of minutes for last-minute changes.

The concert countdown is in full swing for The Short Histories of Powerful Nations‘ CD release concert at The Warehouse Friday, June 19, but just as soon as the full band lineup–SHOPN, Falcon Punch, Colorado group runfasterscared, Jazzercise and Glass Bottom Boat Ride–was announced, things hit a snag. Scheduling conflicts (damn jobs) will prevent GBBR from being able to play at the show, after all, and an attempt to substitute The First Teenager Ever on the bill fizzled as well. The show is still a little more than a week away, so there remains a possibility of seeing another act added to the concert in time to be ready, but the odds get longer with each passing day. Still, the four-band lineup in place is a pretty killer show. We’ll keep you posted on any new developments.

As we announced earlier this week, The Short Histories of Powerful Nations is readying a CD release show at The Warehouse (728 W. Wall St.) in a couple of weeks–Friday, June 19, to be exact. Even at the time of the initial announcement we were warned of the possibility of more surprises in store. Today comes the news that Glass Botton Boat Ride is now off the show and The First Teenager Ever will be joining the already-announced lineup of SHOPN, Falcon Punch, runfasterscared and Jazzercise. It’s a tough group of bands to match for intensity, to be sure, but The First Teenager Ever should be up to the challenge. Keep an eye out for more details as they come in.

Thank God this show is a little more than two weeks away. We need psych-up time. Lately The Short Histories of Powerful Nations have been putting on some of the most intense concerts we’ve seen in Springfield in quite some time, mixing heavy, fast music with wild, flailing performance art. In short, it’s like watching hardcore on speed and having every band member do his best Jim-Morrison-if-Morrison-played-an-instrument impersonation… with an occasional horn interlude. It’s fantastically chaotic stuff; it also hasn’t been committed to record–until now. The band finally has its EP, A Brief Treatise on Land Ownership Vol. 1, ready for public consumption, and a killer CD release concert ready to roll June 19 to celebrate. We’ll tell you more about it after the break.

The Warehouse on Wall Street is the designated place for the show, with a lineup of SHOPN; the talented and, at times, reclusive Falcon Punch; thrash-band-as-workout experiment Jazzercise and Colorado’s runfasterscared, which we’re told was one of the early show partners for SHOPN when the local group got started. There may be more coming, but already the lineup is an intriguing list of complementary performers and names and faces from SHOPN’s past. Come expecting anything and anticipating everything.

When the guys from Roots of Mankind got in touch with us about putting together a barrier-breaking show for the local music scene, it reminded us of the “Springfield Bands Holding Hands” meetings  of a few years ago. Now comes word of the important difference: This show is a reality. All of the details are nailed down, including the list of performers, and we have it all after the break.

The cross-genre event will take place at Remmington’s Downtown June 27th as we noted in a previous post, but we now have the full and final list of bands:

We’re looking forward to hearing the new stuff. If you can, do try to make it out to the show at The Warehouse. From what we hear, its pretty underground and a lot of fun. We’ll be there Tuesday ourselves to check it all out.

You did not read the name of this post wrong. You do not need to rub your eyes or do a double take.

No, I’m not a male chauvinist, but be prepared for some ideas that have been rolling around inside my head, the big one being, “When is it okay to hit a woman?” Then, “How hard must I hit the woman?” And finally, “I’m a male, am I being abused?” There will be humour, potentially very offensive, hidden around places.

Now, I speak with no experience, it’s all hypothetical situations that probably exist from the stories I hear, read, and watch, oh Lifetime, how empowering your stories are…. It’s really heartbreaking to watch that channel with all the stories about teen pregnancy, rape, abuse, drugs, and so on. The best show on that channel would have to be Golden Girls. “Oh Ma….”

Anyway,  we’ll begin with “When to Hit a Woman” first.

You may not hit a woman for spilling your beer, any minor accident — breaking a dish, locking herself out of the car, forgetting to pick up the kids from their piano lessons — calling you a name, making a remark about your penis size, farting, forgetting to do the dishes, not ironing your shirt, being sick, looking at other men, looking at other women — you should hug her in this case — or anything that’s trivial. If you do smack her for such minor incidents, you need to find help because you are an abusive husband or boyfriend. Immediately. Stop reading this and find help before you accidentally kill her or force her to leave. If she leaves, who will wash the dishes? You? Preposterous. For the rest of you non-abusive men out there, keep on reading.

Alright, you know now what reasons you cannot hit her for, let’s find out when you’re allowed to smack her. I remember Sean Connery’s view on the matter of slapping a woman: Pretty interesting right? When a woman starts to verbally abuse you, calling you many names, despite ALREADY giving in to her viewpoint, you may slap her. This is the only situation where I find slapping a woman to be okay. When she doesn’t stop spouting out vulgarities about you, especially in front of your friends or family, you may slap her. What she is doing would be wrong, and if talking her down will not work, if begging will not work, obviously, you need to resort to physical persuasion. There are other options, of course, besides crying, you can just leave her the next day or divorce, but those two options are both extreme and I’d only recommend them if the woman was consistently acting in a way to harm her spouse. I’d suggest hiring or finding a mediator first before resorting to the extreme situations.

I will assume most women, aren’t seeking out to intentionally belittle men with their verbal remarks that may cross the line onto verbal abuse in the same way I will assume men do not make beating women into a pulp a lifetime goal. So when a woman is going too far after being asked to stop it multiple times, steel yourself and slap her. Only once, you don’t want to become an abusive man yourself, you just want to let her know that she has to stop, that you cannot mentally handle all the hatred and hurt she’s throwing in your face. Hopefully you feel bad afterwards and cry for doing such a thing because even if a slap is justified, you should be horrified at having to hit your lover so that you two may “get along” well. If she’s important to you and you both want to continue loving each other, look into relationship counseling, especially when it happens more than just a couple times.

Never, ever use a fist. No matter how angry you are, do not clench your hand and punch your woman. Ever. This rule includes the legendary “Falcon Punch!” Call me sexist, but men tend to be a bit bigger and stronger, think muscle mass, especially since we are the testosterone based gender. Can you imagine a construction worker punching his wife? If the wife has taken self-defense or some type of martial arts, she has a much higher chance of successful pacifying her husband, but let’s say she’s without any means to defend herself and can only take the punch. One broken jaw, missing teeth, a large bruise,  several fractures and plenty of blood to go around: the list of injuries from when she had to endure being hit with a fist. And definitely do go around using objects around the house. You do any of those things and you’re a wife beater or need to go to anger management. Dial 1-800 No Abuse. (That’s a fake number, I think.)

If you must hit a woman, use an open hand. Open up your fist and slap her instead. Slaps can still cause a lot of damage, so do not hit too hard. Only use enough strength to make her understand the message and the message is “Stop.” You will probably see a red hand mark on the face or light bruising. You don’t want to heavily bruise her, deform her face, break her bones or cause permanent damage and/or scarring. You do not do that to a person you love. Right? I’ll kill you if you say otherwise…. Just kidding. Hahaha! Or am I? You better watch your back. I am the malformed shadow stretching out from the alley; I am the voice you hear in the night. I. Am. Batman!

And finally, male abuse.

It does exist folks! Not just the verbal aspect, but physical abuse. Despite how manly we men want to be in never confessing to being physical dominated — in a really bad way, not the fun BDSM way — we’re probably dying inside. If you’re being scratched, hit, shoved into walls with absolutely no sex occurring afterwards, you are being abused. Find some help, man! Or call the police, be prepared and make sure to take photos of the bodily harm before contacting the authorities. I’m sure a lot of men would rather never discuss being abused by their girlfriend or wife in an effort to save face and manliness. I understand, it’s embarrassing, but you don’t have to suffer. Ladies, you should realize how important both our ego and manliness are to us. If you go around and start talking smack about how small our cock is in front of friends, entourages, family, your girlfriends, and/or etc. It hurts us, a lot, seriously. It’s similar to men calling women fat, even if they aren’t, just to hurt them mentally and make them really self-conscious.

I really think this is real.

I realise this is very small, and not very serious, but it does show a little bit of skill development. I’ve used a mask here, with very feathered edges, keyframing the outline as the top layer video moves. Then I merely took a screen grab and Photoshopped Perry Como’s head off, importing the file back into After Effects as a composition. Simple!

Main pride goes to an event this lunchtime during a practice for our Drama piece for the preparatory (mock) exams we have been having lately. We were experimenting with ‘breaking the fourth wall’ (shouting abuse at the audience) and choreographing what we have decided to call ‘choral movement’, where we all do an action together. Anyway, we were doing a fight thing and Rose was saying “Yeah, and we can do it like that and it’ll be like ‘Falcon PUNCH!’” (A la Captain Falcon from in the Super Smash Bros. series.) At this point my heart almost burst with pride at the nerdiness that I seem to be able to awaken in people.
Main worry was that just now I attempted to start up my laptop and got a flashing caps lock then shutdown. I got this several times, even after pulling out the power cable in the middle of the process until I whacked the keyboard with ma fist. Now it works, but I have discovered that this error most likely represents damaged or badly seated RAM, which is a bit of a shitter. However, it does give me another way to persuade my parents that I need a new laptop capable of running Crysis that doesn’t crash every ten minutes. Like this one. But first I think that I might need a job to get the money, and jobs are scarce in the current financial situation…

Well. My week so far has been a bit on the rough side sue to the billionz of exmaz that I’ve had. I’ll give a brief rundown and known results.

• English Language – Wrote about a guy who cooked a tagine for some family, wrote about judging by appearance alone and then wrote awesome Quantum of Solace review. 86%, A. It was 91% to get an A*, and only ELiza managed that because she’s creepy.
• German listening and reading – Questions were read at 0.02 miles per hour, then I did the reading paper in ten minutes. It was meant to take half an hour. It was foundation. Got an A* after doing higher paper in class.
• DT – Wrote for ages about how I was going to build my Kayak, failed to finish, didn’t care much.
• Science – Fairly easy, some questions threw me. What the fuck is anti-static spray? We never learned about that. Nobody did.
• German writing – Involved memorising a piece we had written beforehand and writing it out in exam conditions. Fortunately I had a nerd code to try and remember it: Lead, Nitrogen/Sulphur, Beryllium, Potassium (Pb N/S Be K). Pretty much, the letters just stood for stuff and I wanted to make it more nerdy and therefore more fun to learn. I wrote it in half an hour and then drew some pictures.
• RS – Mediocre. Didn’t know what a rosary was for, hadn’t revised Apostle’s Creed, which came up twice. All rather meh.
• Spanish Writing – Same as German writing, but with Spanish instead (duh). I didn’t have time to do periodic symbols this time, so I had to write letters on my hand. I guess it was cheating, but what the fuss, I think I did alright.
• English Literature – Really not good. At all. I tried a bit in the poetry question and did some stuff about time and it’s use, but in the Of Mice and Men question I just gave up. Life is too short, so I just gazed at the clock and warbled about Curley’s Wife being victimizing as well as a victim herself.

Considering that I’m super tired after the week’s trials and tribulations I’m going to wrap this up now. Deeper and more provocative content to come, just not anytime soon.

I would apologise for not writing a blog in a WHOLE WEEK, but that would make Chris happy, and he can shove it up his arse for the amount of blogs he never wrote on Gamespot before WordPress. So this is me, emphatically NOT apologising for my absence.
