Do y’all remember a few months back where a little boy was perceived to flying around in a homemade air balloon? Looked like an over sized used Jheri Curl Cap. And the whole thing was a hoax staged by his publicity stuntin’ parents, fishing around for their own reality show? Yeah, them folks. Well, their day of reckoning has come. Today Richard & Miyumi Heene faced the music as they were both sentenced for trying to profit from this stunt. Richard was sentenced to 90 days in jail & 60 days of work release where he will continue working as a construction contractor as he serves his time. Miyumi was sentenced to 20 days in jail. her sentence is flexible, meaning that she can report to jail on weekends so that the three children are cared for during the week. They were also given strict probation conditions that forbid them from earning any money from the spectacle for four years.

Richard Heene choked back tears as he said he was sorry, especially to the rescue workers who chased down false reports that his 6-year-old son- Falcon Heene- had floated away in a balloon on Oct. 15. It was a stunt designed to generate attention for a reality TV show. That’ll Learn’em!

Welcome to Lucy Harmer’s Shamanic Astrology monthly forecast for the Northern Hemisphere! Each month Lucy shares inspiration and ideas for the coming weeks from her book Shamanic Astrology: Understanding Your Spirit Animal Sign.

Shamanic Astrology is based on the study of the movement of the sun and the moon during the different seasons of the year. There are twelve astrological ”signs” which are represented by twelve different spirit animals. To find out your own personal spirit animal sign (the sign you were born under), please check the table of spirit animals at the end of this article. Shamanic Astrology teaches us that inner power derives from knowing the properties, characteristics, and qualities of each spirit animal (known as their “medicine”), and applying this in our own lives.

Each month I will focus on the spirit animal for that month, and describe the “energy” of the month itself and also the influence of the moon. I will also indicate which other spirit animal signs will find this month to be particularly beneficial, and why.

December 22 – January 19: SNOW GOOSE

Month of snow and renewal

Spirit Animal Sign of the Month:
Snow Goose is the spirit animal which corresponds to December 22 – January 19 (in the northern hemisphere). If you were born at this time, your spirit animal sign is Snow Goose and you share Snow Goose’s strengths of being patient, ambitious, disciplined, prudent, spiritual, full of common sense, respectful, sincere, reserved and uncompromising. Snow Goose’s month is the time of snow and renewal. At this time of year, everything is asleep and the earth is covered by ice and snow. The forces of nature, the plants and the animals are resting. The sun isn’t yet able to warm the earth, but the seeds of hope planted during Owl’s month are beginning to germinate. The light is winning the contest between night and day. This month will be propitious for a well-earned rest, for accepting challenges, and for discovering new inner strengths. Any project entered into with determination and clarity at this time can’t help but succeed.

Energy of the moon:
Snow Goose’s new moon started on December 16th and the full moon is on December 31st. The period from December 22nd until December 31st is the ideal time for putting into place new structures for the year to come, with much determination. This year’s full moon falls on New Years Eve, which bodes well for exceptionally passionate New Years Eve parties! However, as the full moon heightens all emotions, take care to drive safely and keep yourself safe. Avoid dangerous situations at this time. The period following the full moon, from January 1st until January 14th is an excellent time for resting and for quiet family time. This is a period of reflection and contemplation; use it to meditate on your intentions for the year to come. January 15th brings the new moon in Otter; a time of hope and motivation. It is a great time to plant seeds for the future, to have fun and to renew old ties.

This month is particularly favorable for the following signs:

Snow Goose:
If your sign is Snow Goose the energy of this month is very favorable because it corresponds to the month and the moon of your birth. A new cycle is about to start in your life and this is the best time to start planting seeds. Use the sun’s energy to take stock and head off in a new direction.

Beaver/Brown Bear:
If your sign is Beaver or Brown Bear this is a very lucky month for you, with lots of harmony because you are in your own earth element. A multitude of opportunities will open up for you in this period and this is the best time to give destiny a helping hand!

Snake/Wolf:
For Snake and Wolf people, this is a very dynamic month, full of energy which favors the conception and birth of new projects. You will feel new motivation and a renewal of your energy at this time.

Never has it been more evident how desperate some people are for fame than in 2009. On the POTSHOTS list this year – The Balloon Boy dad, and the White House Party Crashers.

Richard Heene was the ‘mastermind’ – or should I say, ‘Mustermind’ of what is now infamously referred to as the ‘Balloon Boy Hoax.’

Hey Richard! Here’s the closeup you’ve been yearning for!

Richard will be back in the news Wednesday – when he appears before a judge. It’s expected that Richard will beg a judge to spare his wife (and himself) jail time.

You’ll recall that on October 15th, Richard and Mayumi told the world their son Falcon had floated away in a UFO-shaped helium balloon. And, similarly to how turkeys react to shiny objects, (it’s true!) so did we! We couldn’t tear ourselves away from any screen showing that shiny balloon fly through the sky, (which, incidentally, had no real area for a child to be hidden…)

But I digress.

We’ll soon be hearing the fate of Richard and Mayumi.

Given that this is the holiday season, it’s appropriate to acknowledge the things we’re thankful for. And I, for one, am thankful for every moment Richard Heene is not on television.

And since we’re talking narcissism, I’d be remiss if I didn’t lump in the WHITE HOUSE PARTY CRASHERS here.

I hope this party is worth the criminal charges!

Michaele and Tareq Salahi made headlines for all the wrong reasons – although they still claim they were invited, it appears as though there WEREN’T welcome at a White House State Dinner, but were allowed to come in anyway. This was as much a White House Security blunder as it was a societal faux pas on the part of the Salahis (who brought a Bravo camera crew with them, which few people seem to be talking about – how did the press department just let this fly by?) It is a remarkably appaling testimony of what people will do for attention.

New Zealand’s top predator makes spectacular return to the capital

Conservation staff at the groundbreaking ZEALANDIA eco-sanctuary in Wellington believe they have found the first New Zealand falcons to have hatched in the city since the species disappeared as a breeding population in the Seventies.

“It’s an extremely significant discovery,” said ZEALANDIA conservation manager Raewyn Empson

“Although there are quite a few breeding pairs in the Hutt Vally and Eastbourne, they haven’t bred in Wellington city for decades! And they are hanging around right next to the main track, so it really is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see these powerful predators up close and in their element”

This time last year, ZEALANDIA staff found the capital’s first ever recorded nest, very close to where this year’s fledgings are hanging out. Unfortunately, the nest had been abandoned before any eggs were laid. A second nest, this time with eggs in it, was found in July – incredibly early for falcons – but that also failed.

Well done to everyone who participated in this years Qhristmas Quandry Jingle Twins Riddle Blogathon! Congratulations to Mr. Matt Sowell straight out of the University of Georgia for being the first person to make it to the Jingle Prize! You have won yourself a free copy of the soon to be released (think, tomorrow soon) Jingle Twins Album, “Christmas Signs: A Falconer’s Christmas!”

For the rest of you, well fought.  Keep your heads up.  The album will be released tomorrow and then you can all bask in its off-putting and confusing glory.  It will be made available, if all goes like I suspect it will, through links, or widgets or some new-fangled technological thing, on the facebook pages of myself and Lanier Ward.  Also, it should be available for purchase directly from this blog or the blog of Lanier Ward.  And maybe, just maybe, you can be a Jingle Twin too and post the link on your facebook or blog or whatever! There might even be an incentive in there somewhere if you decide promote along with us, no telling, more info to come.

So here’s the deal with the album. We have thought long and hard about how much to explain about the origins of the album or any of the particular tracks.  What the tracks are about? Is there some hidden symbolism or is it just madness? Why do some songs talk about falcons or fountains and some talk about Santa or a greasy little fella named Blurtus?  Why do some sound like they were recorded by a pack of hyenas in a trash can and others sound better than the Jo Bros.? (That’s right, that’s officially a shot at the Jonas Brothers, thus beginning our high profile, celebrity feud.)

Well, we have decided, at least for now, not to really delve deeper than we already have into what on earth this album is all about because, quite frankly, we want to hear what you think.  So please, after the album release tomorrow, after you get a chance to listen through the album, we would love to hear what you think is going on, whether it be deep spiritual symbolism or raving lunacy. Blurtus, Santa’s Worst Elf and accomplished Christmas Pirate

Christmas may still be almost two weeks away.  But this Sunday, I’m all abuzz about year-end name news:

• First up, the Nameberry gurus predict the Top Baby Names of the Future over at The Daily Beast.  Not any real surprises here, but almost certainly what we’ll hear everywhere in 2019;
• There’s also their look backwards, published at Nameberry earlier this week. 2009 certainly was a good year for celeb-inspired choices.  A few cited in their post include Khloe, Marley, Miley, Kingston, Kobe, Cruz and Kimora;
• Over at Baby Name Wizard, Laura Wattenberg announced her Name of the Year for 2009.  Second Runner Up: Balloon Boy Falcon. First Runner Up: the gender-neutral country chanteuse/werewolf actor Taylor.  And the winner?  Twilight mash-up Renesmee;
• The Melton Leader  tells us that Riley and Olivia were the most popular names in their corner of Australia in 2009.  Unusual names bestowed at their local hospital included a girl called Syntynche, as well as boys named Memphis and Atticus – but really, that’s nuthin’ compared to Syntynche;
• In Japan, Hiroto tops the charts for boys and Rin for girls - or do they?  The list comes from Benesse Corp., not a government agency.  And are gender neutral names big in Japan, too?  Ren is #3 on the boys’ list;
• And back to Christmas – check out this list of holiday names over at Lil’ Sugar.  They range from the obvious (Noel) to the subtle (Neve).  Just don’t name your baby boy Rudolph.

Speaking of unusual names:

• For Real Baby Names spotted an Everly Joe - which wouldn’t surprise me, except that Everly Joe is a she!  Shades of Jagger Joseph Blue, I think.  There’s also a Sixx Delilah.  Wonder if the proud parents were Motley Crue fans?
• Sebastiane over at LegitBabeNames wrote about Arpad, supermodel Elle MacPherson’s Hungarian hero name for her husband and son;
• Bewildertrix spotted a Unity – a virtue name much-neglected, save for the infamous Mitford sister.  There’s also a bumper crop of boys with bitsy names like Kye and Jai.  Wonder if they’ll join Kai in the US?  There’s also an Isobel Elizabeth Idonia. Isobel and Elizabeth together seems repetitive – and yet, it’s an appealing combo.

In starbaby news:

• The littlest Duggar, Josie Brooklyn, is here.  And quite early, though reports are optimistic;
• Model Jourdan Dunn has welcomed a baby boy – no name yet;
• Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady are also proud parents to a bouncing baby boy – also with no name released;
• Kendra Wilkinson is a mom. She and husband welcomed Hank Randall Baskett IV.  Of course, they’d announced his name when HB4 was still a zygote;
• American Idol alum Jessica Sierra welcomed son Kayden Cash.

Is it me, or is it more fun when celebs don’t release their baby names while their offspring are still in utero?  Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take a baby name announcement whenever it comes.  (Is Pilot’s little sister really named Casper?  Inquiring minds want to know.)  But I kind of enjoy the whole “So and So Had a Girl and Named Her Guess What?” part of the process.

Perhaps I’ve been conditioned by reality television’s big reveals.

It appears 2010 is going to be off to a smashing start just like 2009 appeared to. The Courteeners are back! Manchester’s new favourite sons following in the steps of the Smiths and the recently dearly departed Oasis are about to drop their long awaited second record entitled Falcon 22 February.  It’s a good thing too as I haven’t stopped playing the debut, 2008’s St. Jude since I first bought it.

With news of the record on the horizon, the first fruits of said record has come early in the form of what could very well be the first single Cross My Heart And Hope To Fly. A song darker in tone than what we heard previously but showcases a greater depth. Bigger drums and the use of strings certainly prove to be the highlight of the song along with Liam’s strong vocals.

Fall in love with the Courteeners all over again just like I did. Listen to your heart’s content.

It seems as though the press has been doing an incredible amount of homework and have uncovered the secret alias codename for the band releasing that highly touted new Christmas Album that everyone is talking about.  Seeing as how this information has already been leaked onto the world wide web, I have decided to go ahead and make the official announcement that the band that will soon be releasing the mind-blowing, breakthrough, revolutionary, heart-wrenching album entitled “Christmas Signs: A Falconer’s Christmas,” has been referring to itself as “The Jingle Twins,” or, sometimes with its full name “Two Jingling Twins and Their Obfuscating Orthinological Orchestra.”

Another source apparently furtively smuggled him/herself into an exclusive sneak live preview performance of one of the intoxicatingly impressive singles off of “Christmas Signs: A Falconer’s Christmas,” entitled “Santa in July.”  The reviewer could barely contain his/her excitement as he/she described the empty-bladder inducing excitement and anticipation that the track induced.
